Don’t hate the player, hate the game… Hunter Adams is a pro football player and my brother’s best friend. He also happens to be the one person in the world I hate. Desperate to keep the reason why I was kicked out of the college I was attending a secret; I agree to be Hunter’s fake girlfriend for his brother’s wedding in the Bahamas. There’s only one problem… it doesn’t really feel like pretend after all. Not with the looks Hunter is giving me, or those searing kisses. I'm seeing a whole different side to Hunter, one that I might actually like. One that makes me wonder if we can be real, or if we’re just playing the game?
L.M. Reid writes contemporary romance that is filled with emotion and a whole lot of steam. Her heroines are strong and feisty, and her heroes are sweet and sexy.
L.M. loved reading as a child and really fell in love with books while reading the Babysitter’s Club. The series spurred her love of writing leading her to create her own series as a kid – “Best Friend’s Forever.”
Growing up watching soap operas, L.M. has always had a flair for the dramatic and a love of all things romance.
She is just a Midwest girl with simple tastes and dirty thoughts.
She lives in the state where they swear there is more than corn, with her husband and son. She’s an iced coffee addict and loves Swedish Fish. While her heart belongs to romance, she loves curling up on the couch with a good, or bad, horror movie.
I ❤️it. I have not been able to stop reading until I have finished. Hunter and Quinn’s story is that of 2 old acquaintances who have in common Mason, Quinn’s brother and Hunter’s best friend. Quinn can’t stand Hunter in part bc ever since her brother became friends with him, he put her aside more, despite the fact that Mason has always been by her side when she has needed it. Like now that she is expelled from Columbia after the scandal caused due her relationship with a married professor. And that how Quinn changes schools, moves in with her brother, and has Hunter back in her life. Hunter tries to be friends with her, but Quinn rejects him over and over again. So he gives up and thinks how lucky he is to have a girlfriend for years that adores him, Layla. Until one day he comes home to find Layla in a compromising situation with another man. He ends up drunk in a bar with Quinn and they end up having a night of fiery passion together, but the next day things go back to the way they were before. But Hunter’s brother wedding is coming up and Layla and her new boyfriend are invited so Mason comes up with the idea of Hunter and Quinn pretending they are dating during that week. What began as a farce begins to transform into something deeper, but Hunter will have to overcome the fears and insecurities and the low self-esteem of Quinn, who has a hard time believing she deserves to be with someone as good as Hunter. Her past mistakes, along with her disastrous childhood cause Quinn to have a low opinion of herself. The banter between them are 😂😂😂, and the sex scenes are super 🔥🔥.
This book perfectly portrays an enemies to lovers story. Quinn can not stand Hunter...he’s friends with her brother and they’ve know each other for many years. Hunter doesn’t understand the reason behind the hate and tries to be nice to her. A series of recent events puts them is close proximity to each other and somewhat forces Quinn to confront and share her feelings.
They come from two different worlds but realize they may have more in common than they thought. This is a beautiful story of Quinn letting go of insecurities, her past mistakes and opening her heart to being loved and cared for by someone. Hunters realizes his past mistakes, how he can be better a better person and helping Quinn see her worth.
It’s amazing what a couple years of maturity, actually listening and hearing a person, and forgiving yourself can do to your outlook on life and welcoming others into your heart.
Wonderful characters and story! I requested an arc and I am leaving my honest review.
I wasn’t sure what to expect as this is a new author for me but, wow. I enjoyed this book from the very first page to the last
I adored how the relationship between Quinn and Hunter developed and her absolute loathing of him in the beginning came off the pages it was so well written.
Quinn’s secrets were hard to read in a way, though the author I think kept a very light touch on them to keep with the overall feel of the book.
Hunter was a quandary in some ways and I did worry at the beginning that there would be cheating in this book, that absolutely wasn’t the case but goodness how that man switched on to Quinn so fast my head spun. I’m so pleased he adored her so much, she needed it.
A great read

This story had three things I adore: enemies to lovers, it was a sports romance and brothers best friend story. This alone is a must read for me. I also loved the first person point of view of the story which is a deal breaker for me. I read this one in one sitting.

Quinn is asked to leave college following a scandal that she is hiding from her brother. For reasons known only to her, she hates her brother's best friend, but circumstances put them together and when both of their guards are down the attraction they share comes to the surface. A good read with two people trying to come to terms with their feelings while having to deal with naysayers and blockers.

The spice, the tropes, THE CHEMISTRY! Off the charts, 100% off the charts. I swear I’ve never seen multiple tropes pulled off as flawlessly as they were in Playing the Game. Enemies to lovers combined with brothers best friend and then adding in the fake dating trope on top of it? In other books it might be too much of a good thing but L.M. Reid made it work… And when I say made it work I mean made a freaking diamond out of it!
Oh and can I please have a tall glass of Hunter because dayuuuumn is he fine. Obviously he’s Quinn’s but like… is there a way to make a copy of him because if so I need it! A gentleman in the streets and a dominating possessive hunk in the sheets? YES PLEASE! I’ll take ten haha!
I’d definitely recommend this book to any sports romance fan! Super excited to dive into Mason’s book next!
Who needs sleep when there is still just a few chapters?
Siblings Mason and Quinn had a horrible childhood, and had to take care of every basic need for themselves in order to just make it. Mason meets Hunter, a rich kid, during his rough childhood and Hunter’s family took him and Quinn under their wing to help, well, as much as Quinn would allow. Quinn could never accept Hunter when he and Mason became as close as brothers, something they still are to this day. Quinn is off at her dream school now, until scandal hits and she returns to her brother’s house to pick up the pieces, there she is forced again and again to see Hunter. When Hunter is put in a bad place and needs a date for a week long destination wedding, Mason tells Quinn she needs to do it.
The book flowed, was well written; the plot, the main characters, as well as the background characters. It was steamy, but had plenty of meat to the story. You get to know Quinn and Hunter very well. They are very different, but the author makes it plan to see why they would be a good fit. Never once did I catch myself rolling my eyes at something OTT, or wishing the story would move faster, or felt I like I missed something. I really loved these characters, and loved how the author brought them to light and did them justice through her writing.
Their story was so good. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but from early in this book I was hooked. Kept reading long into the night to see what would happen next. Delighted that there is going to be a second book in this series, can’t wait!!! Definitely a 5 star read.
Playing the Game by L.M. Reid was an amazing story. Hunter and Quinn were simply amazing together. Quinn moves in with her brother after a scandal gets her kicked out of college. Hunter is her brother's best friend and for some reason Quinn seems to hate him. They always end up arguing whenever they are around each other. But after Hunter finds his fiancé cheating on him, Hunter and Quinn spend the night together. And she later agrees to be his girlfriend at his brother's wedding. What happens when his ex interferes and Hunter learns why Quinn really left college. If you enjoy best friend/little sister romance you will love their story.
Original story of false fiancés 4.5 I found that doing original on this theme was not easy, but here it is quite successful. It's a great romance, especially given the events that bring Quinn closer to Hunter she has known since childhood. The psychology of these characters is dense, both towards themselves and in their "I hate you / I like you" relationship. There aren't any big dramas, but the twists and turns, or Quinn's rather surprising past surprised me. Quinn is fired from her college (and she's ashamed of it), because she slept with her teacher. Back with her brother, an NFL player, she finds Hunter another player she can't stand, but she agrees to help him out when he needs help. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Quinn and Hunter She is nothing but trouble and hates everything about him. He’s her brother’s best friend and someone she never gave a chance. When they are forced to pretend to be in a relationship at his brothers wedding, what will happen when the feelings turn real? Oh My God! Please go get this book! I can not say enough good things about this story. The writing is spectacular, the story grabs you and doesn’t let go, and the tension between Quinn and Hunter will have you biting your nails and screaming at them! This book was so amazing! I loved how well written both characters were, and when they finally got it together- I completely melted! They honestly made my top 10 favorite couples and that’s a really hard thing to do. Now I can’t wait to read the next book!
Loved the book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were interesting. Quinn and her brother Mason had a horrible life growing up, Hunter is her brothers best friend. She gets kicked out of school so she decides to stay with her brother, Hunter propositions her, he needs a date and his ex girlfriend will be at the same wedding, his brother is getting married so Hunter has to go. They pretend to be an item but will it turn out to be more or not.

OMG!!! I absolutely love this book! Hunter and Quinn are amazing characters. This book was so well written and held my attention completely. I had a long drive and all I wanted was for someone to read this book to me so I knew what was going on next. Can’t wait for the next book!
Quinn and Hunter are so cute. The anger and hate that Quinn displays towards Hunter is hard to understand until the explanation is provided in the book. There is no meet cute, no insta-love or lust, it is more of an enemies to lovers but only one person hates the other it is not mutual hate. Quinn had a hard childhood and it makes it hard for her to form relationships and build trust. Hunter is Quinn's brother's best friend and has been in her life for fifteen years. The relationship going from hate to like to love is adorable and written so well I got to fall in love with them.
Holy shiiiit! I fkn love this. I literally devoured this story! It helped that it was only like 200 pgs but still. I loved their heated arguments just as much as I loved when they connected. And when she finally started allowing herself to be happy- UGH! Amazing. Then when she finally realized what she truly deserved, nothing could get in her way.
IDK what the ex girlfriend was even thinking. Like he caught you screwing a guy in his bed. You then proceed to be with this guy in his face and show up with this guy every where. You take this guy to the MMC brother's wedding as your date and then get mad because the MMC is happy and moving on? How did she expect to ever get him back? like seriously? I love that he gave her no attention what so ever. Any time she came around he literally only talked to her to ask her what she did or what she said to or about FMC. Like its obvious he doesn't care about you... whyyyyy you think you gonna get him back???
I am glad that he didn't give up on the FMC when she ran. He did what he had to and finally got the truth from her - and in the end they ended up really happy. I was happy about it too.
One thing I didn't understand was why she as the student was punished in the beginning. Shouldn't the teacher be punished. Like how many other students did he do that with? Yet he got to stay, she had her reputation ruined and had to leave. UGH.
Any who! Spice 3/5 Humor 3/5 Emotional 2/5 Overall 5/5
Quinn hates her brother’s best friend Hunter, for reasons unbeknownst to him. When Hunter has to go to the Bahamas for a wedding, he needs a buffer between him and his ex and her new boyfriend. He enlists Quinn to be his fake girlfriend for the week, with a little help from her brother Mason. During their week, they manage to have a good time, and their chemistry grows. He finally finds out the reason Quinn hated him, and it seems that they may have a chance at a real relationship when secrets from the past come to light.
I thought this story was quite fun as the conversations between the two make me laugh. And the chemistry between Quinn and Hunter is steamy hot and sizzling.
4 of my favourite tropes rolled into one story. Sports Romance Enemies to loves Brothers best friend Fake Romance
When Hunter needs a date to his brother wedding. He enlists the help of his best friends sister Quinn.Hunter and Quinn were world away growing up. Quinn hates Hunter, she thinks is arrogant and spoilt. Quinn is keeping the reasons she's back home a secret. After spending time together in luxury will be the lines between Hate and love begin to fade away or will someone try to get in the way of Hunter and Quinn

What a fantastic little gem. I really enjoyed this one seeing as the FB player was a super sweet swoony bookBF. I fell in love with Hunter immediately. Quinn was the yin to his yang. He’s calm and collected, she’s wild and sassy. They just worked! So freaking steamy too!!
Discombobulated. There is little chemistry between the main couple and their relationship doesn’t make sense. I should have stopped reading after the first three chapters.
4.5 Stars! Brother's best friend AND enemies-to-lovers...yes please!
Quinn - she's forced to move colleges after it turns out the professor she's having a fling with is actually married! In the need of a break, she agrees to be Hunter's fake girlfriend for his brother's week long Bahamas wedding. She knows no-one will believe the All-American good guy would go for someone like her, too wild and from the wrong side of the tracks. However Hunter seems determined to get underneath her ice-cold front and show her she's worth more than she thinks. But it's all fake...right?
Hunter - after walking in on his girlfriend having sex with another man, he goes to a local bar to drown his sorrows. There he bumps into best friend Mason's sister, and their back and forth banter leads to a steamy night! When he realises a few days later that he needs a date to to attend a week-long wedding event his ex is also attending, he knows just who he can ask. However she apparently hates his guts, so can they even survive the week? And if they do, how will his heart cope when the week ends?
Hunter is definitely book boyfriend material. He's sweet, loving and just an all-round great guy! Plus obviously a secret alpha in the bedroom! You really feel for Quinn too, her and Mason had a tough childhood which has made her think she's not worth the love of a nice guy. It was lovely to watch Hunter try and show her how great she really is. Loved it!
**Honest ARC review**
No cheating. No cliff-hanger. HEA guaranteed.
This is my first book by L.M. Reid, and after reading this book, I can't wait to read more!
Quinn and Mason there childhood was awful and it shaped who they were they did allot to survive and Hunter was just a way for them to eat and keep going but eventually Mason and Hunter became friends they even got drafted together to the Red Devils football team. But Quinn just hated Hunter he had everything and all she had was a bitter childhood and along list of mistakes and her latest one has her back home and kicked out of Columbia University what she doesn't need is Hunter but that was before that night.
Hunter life is pretty perfect until he walks in on his girlfriend Layla with someone else in his bedroom and it's his condo what a scank. So what dose Hunter do he gets drunk and ends up in a hotel room with the one person who claims to hate him Quinn his bestfriend's sister. Now he needs Quinn to help him out its his brothers wedding and his ex and her new man are going to be there. It was all supposed to be completely platonic but you can't stop Hunter when he wants something and he wants Quinn not for a night but forever. But Layla isn't done if she can't have him she will make sure that Quinn doesn't either.
This book had me laughing and wanting to punch someone at the same time both Hunter's and Quinn's ex's were slime and Hunter was just perfect he didn't give up on Quinn and he didn't care about her past. I also liked how by the end of the book Quinn had finally learned to like herself and trust Hunter. Looking forward to seeing what happens to Mason in the next book.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
(3 1/2 stars) Hunter and Quinn's story. Hunter is the best friend of Quinn's brother. She has always hated Hunter it seems because he has everything she didn't have growing up (her and her brother had a rough life) but really she feels like she is losing her person to Hunter.
The book starts with her getting kicked out of college and Hunter breaking up with his girlfriend. They run into each other and ending up spending the night together both denying their feelings after. Hunter's brother is getting married and the bride to be is best friends with Hunter's ex, so she decides to be his fake girlfriend to help Hunter out and also keep the reason she got kicked out of college from her brother. During the time in the Bahamas for the wedding they develop feelings for each other but again to keep her past away from Hunter's football good guy image she runs from the relationship but Hunter is not going to give up that easy and they end up finding their HEA.
The book is enjoyable, the steam is medium, the characters are ok. This was the first book I have read by this author and I will read another before I make a decision if I will follow this author and their books.

This was a fun quick read. Quinn and her brother Mason didn’t have an easy life growing up. Hunter, Mason’s best friend, was the lifeline that helped them through. While Mason grew closer to Hunter, Quinn hated him just a little more.
Fast forward to the present and an unfortunate encounter has Quinn forced to leave school and live with her brother. Of course this means she has to interact with Hunter. Due to his own issues, Hunter agrees to Quinn being his fake girlfriend for his brother’s wedding and that is where the real fun starts.
Throw in some sexy times, plenty of banter and a scheming ex, the wedding week is full of entertainment. Even though Quinn bugged me at times, I was really rooting for her and Mason and I couldn’t wait to see how there story would play out. Hunter definitely was a swoon worth hero and made the story even better. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series because Mason is in serious denial and I can’t wait to get his and Avery’s story.
This was definitely a must read book. I did take a 1/2 star off for some editing misses but otherwise really enjoyed this one!

Quinn and Hunter have known each other for a while, he is her brother's best friend and she has hated him since they first met. She hides her feelings a lot, makes some bad decisions, gets herself caught in situations that she knows will end badly but it is all because of her past. She tries so hard to not be like her horrible parents but her insecurities from her past are pushing her in that direction, After a huge mistake she moves in with her brother and is now constantly surrounded by Hunter. Hunter is a great guy, is always trying to help others, and is loyal but one night throws his best laid plans for a loop. Hunter and Quinn are forced in a close proximity when she decides to help him but feelings are hard to hide and become too real. Will they continue to hate each other or will their feelings come to light? They both have a lot of to learn like letting the past go and trying to move forward. I enjoyed this read and really loved Hunter even at times I felt Quinn could be a little immature.
I went into it expecting just another smutty romance book but I was pleasantly surprised?? Who knew good boys could be so bad omgggg
Even the plot itself was fun, even if predictable, I liked it so much that I didn’t mind it. I’m a sucker for the fake dating trope, even more if it’s at a wedding. The character development was good, and the romance was swooooooooon
Hunter’s POV was my favourite part, I loved how enamoured he was with her and his thoughts were just so cute and beautiful and I want one now !!!!!
the spice: it was good, not extremely graphic, they were short scenes and more focused on the emotional aspect but I enjoyed them, solid 3 🌶
My only complain is the lack of description. I like to know what the characters look like, but there was little to no description until like the middle of the book, and even then it was very brief.
Perfect if you like fake dating, weddings, brother’s best friend and enemies to lovers tropes!
I loved this fast-paced bust super cute story of Hunter and Quinn. It has some of my favorite tropes rolled into one: sports, enemies to lovers, best friends sister, and fake dating.
At first I wanted to smack Quinn upside the head and say it was time to grow up. Then as Hunter kept peeling away the layers of Quinn and we finally get a glimpse into the real girl hidden inside - I wanted to take her in my arms and squeeze her.
The author did a great job of character growth. I love when a character realistically comes out of their shell and sees what has been holding them back from love and then being brave enough to knock down those walls for their happy ever after.
I loved the side characters and am so excited to see where the Making the Play series goes and whose story is next!
