The more I find out about the Dark Shade, the more I want to run, hide, and never look back.
I am not the only one searching for it anymore, but I'm more alone than ever. To uncover the truth of my past, I have no choice but to work with strangers, who are full of their own twisted secrets.
Except Alexander King. He is the only person who seems to know me from the inside out, better than I know myself. He feels safe, despite the fact that everyone warns me against him. He's supposed to be a cold blooded killer, merciless, a true monster, but he unlocks my very soul with a single touch. Trusting my instincts is how I survived this long, so that is why I trust him.
But things are never what they seem, especially when it comes to the Dark Shade. My own mind manipulates me, and the broken magic that runs in my veins is slowly turning into my worst enemy.
And even though I want nothing more than to disappear, I have no choice but to keep going.
I was hoping that this book would be as good if not better than the first book in the series but I was disappointed. Cal what is regaining bits and pieces of her memory but she still couldn’t remember much about the dark shade. She is working with others who are also looking for the dark shade but that is when it gets odd. Her stocker ends up killing the siren that she’s trying to get more information from so she can go back to the dark shade, Alexander is the only person she thinks she can trust even though she doesn’t really know him, and then she finds out some very disturbing stuff about Alexander but she doesn’t know if she can believe or not. This book was going along pretty well but close to the end it had so many twists and turns with different people I had a hard time keeping track. I did like the fact though that when the author would have a different character speaking she would start that character speaking in the next chapter and she would also put in the beginning of the chapter who was telling the story.
Kallista now knows that she isn’t the only one searching for the Dark Shade and that, they too, only have vague memories of the place they are desperate to return to. She reluctantly agreed to work with them to discover a way to return, but she isn’t sure she can trust them, she’s sure they aren’t telling her something. Alexander King has realized that he knows Kallista from before he lost his own memories and will do whatever it takes to help keep her safe and return to the Dark Shade with her. Exciting and action packed read with magic, betrayal, suspense, and unexpected twists in the plot. Wonderfully well written characters with complex and diverse personalities that draw you into their fascinating world and keep a reader engrossed in their story. I think this is a fantastic book and series, and it’s definitely a must read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
A good, solid story. Kalista makes great strides towards learning about the missing five years with the help of her new cohort: Gwen, Cola, and Letta. Alexander continues to seek out Sunna. There are several interesting twists in the story. And some budding romances. But, while there is a definite ending, it was far from truly satisfying. In fact, it was almost, but not quite, a cliffhanger.
Kallista & Alex and the rest of the people looking for the Dark Shade are back for more action and danger. But the real fun of the book is trying to figure out with Kallista what is the truth, the lies and how it all fits together. Hooked from the beginning and glued to the end to how it all plays out. I laughed, groaned and thought hard to try and piece everything together. So much fun and so entertaining to read. And cannot forget watching Kallista think she is going crazy as things are revealed.
Kallista and crew have finally figured out that the Dark Shade is real and are on their way to getting back. There are a lot of lies and a lot of half truths. Trying to navigate through it is like trying to navigate through a land mine. Trust is hard to come by and trusting the wrong person can be detrimental to your health.
The ending shocked me because I didn’t see it coming. I had an idea something wasn’t right but this twist certainly wasn’t it. I’m dying to see what happens in the final book of this series.
Wow, this is full of surprises and a twisty story, both good and sad. Watching Kallista and Alexander finally come together was wonderful. Well I have to say that things were up and down through the entire book. I sucked up every word. Now the ending, this cliff is a bit tough but I know that the next book will surely have answers and be worth the wait. I Loved It!!! I received an ARC from the Author and I am leaving this Totally Honest Review because I Choose to and feel that this is a wonderful story and I Need More!!!
Broken Magic (The Dark Shade #2), my seventeenth read from author D.N. Hoxa, and the second book her Dark Shade series! Well-written & enjoyable fantasy read. I look forward to Dark Shade (The Dark Shade #3), the next work from her. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll be reading more from this author! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Kallista & Alex Are back and heading straight headlong into danger as they try to figure out what has happened. It’s an enthralling read as you try to work out truth from lies and stop Kallista going mad. We do get answers but then more surprises and twists and turns are thrown our way. Engrossing, exciting this has me hooked and I now eagerly await the next book.
Congratulations to Dori Hoxa for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
I can't put my feelings into words after reading this book but I'll try... The second book was even better than the first one. Some secrets revealed, amazing scenes, more supernatural creatures and heartbreaks... Kallista's and Alex relationship got more depth and the two last chapters... OH MY GOD! Can't wait to finish their story. P.s Alex i pronounce you my book husband
This book has me completely hooked. Kallista & Alex both are trying too find out exactly what happened too them and in this book we get some answers. I love Kallista & Alex together and I can’t wait too read what’s going too happen next.
Better than the others. Sucks you in wrings you out, and kind of leaves you there waiting for the next book. I had to go and read the other Shade series after starting this one because its was so engrossing. Just get devour it you will be pleased
This installment answers most of the questions raised in the first book and needs to be read in order. A mix of urban fantasy with light romance and a story that is easy to read and hard to put down.
Kallista Nix and Vampire Alex with their cohort of friends and enemies search for a way to get back to the Dark shade and regain their memories. Lots of twist and turns. Well written. A pinch of spice. Bit of heart break too. Kallista regains herself as Astra.
