I can totally imagine the people she is talking about, their characters and their customs.
It is drawing a very warm-hearted picture and one can feel that she really interacted with the people.

Die Autorin lebte von 1977-1981 als Frau eines Auslandskorrespondenten in Moskau und berichtet in diesem Buch von den Eindrücken und Erfahrungen, die sie dort gemacht hat. Das hat mir sehr interessante Einblicke in die sowjetische Gesellschaft, ins Lebens dieser Menschen und ihren Problemen und in den Sozialismus vermittelt.
Einziges Manko an diesem Buch ist, dass es natürlich nicht mehr ganz aktuell ist.

The resemblance of everything she described about Russia to what it's like living in Romania (nowadays still) is incredible. I didn't think there was such a huge influence but apparently it is so. In even the smallest of things...
