The last book in Audrey Carlan’s Wish series is a doozy. In the first two books we’ve watched sisters (technically half sisters) Suda Kaye and Evie, reunite after a decade, repair their relationship, fall in love, and find out they have another half sister they knew nothing about until Adam Ross the man they knew as their father, although only Evie’s bio father, passes away. In On the Sweet Side, we get to know Isabeau (Izzy) the daughter who their mother Catori selflessly bore for her former lover (and Suda Kaye’s bio dad) and his partner. Okay, I know this series sounds like some big soap opera, but it really isn’t. It’s a beautiful series about three sisters learning to live, love, take chances in their lives, and the bond between them.
With a sizeable inheritance from a man she didn’t know, Izzy and her best friend since they were 5 years old, Jasper, leave Chicago and head to Colorado so Izzy can get to know her sisters. Both Evie and Suda Kaye are ecstatic to have her near and encourage her and Jasper to follow their dreams of owning their own bakery. To top it off Izzy is introduced to Kyson who owns a construction company and is not only willing to help her with the renovations but immediately asks her out. I truly liked both Izzy and Kyson and was glad they got together and it was perfect that Jasper hit it off with Lincoln, Kyson’s brother, but for me everything in this book moved way too easily and quickly. Look, I’m not a huge lover of angst or drama, but I kind of kept waiting for a fairy godmother or little cleaning and singing animals and birds to appear because everything was fairy tale like.
I get what the author was trying to do in these books, that the wisdom of their mother helped them, to discover their strengths, to reach for the stars, to take chances, to believe in themselves, to believe in each other, to find their soul mate, and live their dreams. I appreciate that message, in fact I love that message, and while I understand this is fiction, I need it to feel real and Izzy’s life did not. I could absolutely see her moving to be closer to her sisters even if it was only for a little while, but everything in her life starting on the second day she’s in Colorado fell into place without any hiccups for her personally. Not one fight with her new sisters, a small bump with Kyson that she just seemed to accept with very little conflict, no real delays in renovating a completely run down space without equipment issues, building permits taking forever, nothing. The whole story was like that even the big issue she and Kyson faced went down smoothly. Yes it would be great if life was like that, but sadly it is not and it made it hard for me to believe in this story. That being said, I liked this couple but I would have appreciated a much more complex relationship, I would have loved there to be a bit of conflict between her and her sisters especially Suda Kaye since she was the biological child of one of the men who raised Izzy.
I was absolutely thrilled the three sisters found one another and were building a relationship and I’m always happy when two people find one another. I liked On the Sweet Side, but the story moved at too rapid a pace and lacked story development leaving me a bit disappointed.
5 star Review On The Sweet Side (Wish #3) by Audrey Carlin
Book three in the Wish series but you can read as a stand alone if you have not read the first two books. Having read the previous books in the series and after the way the second book ended, I was excited to see what Ms. Carlin had in store for Isabeau (Izzy) Collins, the newly found sister of Suda Kaye and Evie.
Izzy is shocked and yet she yearns to learn more about her new family. Their appearance in her life could not have come at a more inopportune time as she is just about to open her custom cake shop. Now she is torn between getting to know her new family and the career she has worked so hard for.
Deciding to visit Pueblo, Colorado to get to know her new sisters, this decision changes her life forever. When she finds a space that would be perfect for her bakery she meets contractor Kyson and his little girl who she is drawn to. As their relationship blossomed it was heartwarming to watch it develop.
This was a beautifully written, entertaining story that will draw you in and keep you invested from the first chapter to the last. There were so many layers to this story that you cannot help but feel as though you are peeling an onion, one layer at a time.
This is a wonderful story of love and family and one that got to me. The Native American heritage added an additional touch.
I mean after that bomb dropped at the end of book two we needed this book to find out more about Isabeau!! The long lost sister of Suda Kaye and Evie, but also the long lost daughter of Catori. Audrey knows how to make you fall in love with all of her characters and Isabeau was just sweet and innocent with big dreams. She took a big leap in her life to get to know a brand new part of herself and family. Of course her sidekick, Jasper, was an extra bonus. There were definitely lots of laughs, tears & twists throughout this book. I absolutely adore Isabeau and Kyson, their chemistry was fire and I'm so glad Kyson won the bet. I love the sisterhood, the love and the big family vibe in this book. I love love love the hint of Catori throughout the book. Everything just came together with this book!!
If you have not read the previous books in this series, this review will be a spoiler. Isabeau Collins has just received a culinary degree after studying under great chefs from Italy and France. She is ready to open a bake shop with her best friend and fellow chef, Jasper. She is happy, living with her two dads. She knows she was born using a surrogate and has never has any desire to find this woman. But her perfect plans are thwarted when two women claiming to be her half sisters show up with a stack of letters addressed to Izzy from their late mother. She also receives a large sum of money from the estate of a man she has never met. She makes a decision to go to Colorado to connect with the sisters she’s never known. Jasper has no intention of letting her go alone. As the story moves forward we learn more about Catori, their mother and the relationship she had with Izzy's father. Izzy also meets Kyson, a character that has been in and out of the previous books. He is doing renovations on the store that Izzy and Jasper plan to open their bakery in. Their attraction sizzles, but has a lot of roadblocks.
I enjoyed this conclusion to the series. We get to see all three sisters happy in their lives with each other, the extended family and with a partner. Jasper is a hoot. He falls for Kyson's brother and at times is completely over the top. I wish real life were as easy as it is in this book as everyone accepts the LGBTQ characters with no hesitation. All does not go smoothly in Izzy's and Kyson's story as there are secrets and baggage to deal with. We all know secrets come back to bite you and there is an edge of your seat section in this story. I don't want to give anymore away, so I will just say that this is a well written story with wonderful well developed characters that I have come to know and love. Even the secondary characters, especially Tahsuda (their grandfather) added so much to the story. I loved the way this story unfolded. There were hints of Catori throughout, as well as Native American culture. I will say that there are some steamy, rather descriptive scenes in the book, but you can skim them without taking away from the story. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Carolina Hoyos. I enjoyed her performance that gave voice to the various characters, as well as adding expression and emotion to the story.
Isabeau Collins grew up with two amazing dads, Casey Collins and Ian Kamal Collins, not to mention her best friend Jasper Prince. On top of the world, with newly minted culinary degrees, both she and Jasper were looking forward to finding their dream jobs as pastry chefs in Chicago, and one day opening a bakery of their own. Alas their morning, as well as their careful plans, were about to be derailed.
Two women entered, sisters she discovered, one with familiarly haunting amber eyes, the other with a stack of pink letters, and then…the name “Catori.” Izzy’s world would never be the same.
While “On the Sweet Side” can be read alone, I prefer reading NYT #1 bestselling author Audrey Carlan’s The Wish Series in order, first Suda Kaye’s story, “What the Heart Wants,” followed by Evie’s story, “To Catch a Dream.” This series is unlike anything you’ve probably ever read before. The bonds of sisterhood and family, tragedy and romantic love, have never been written so beautifully, as Carlan writes in this series. Coupled with the Native American culture Carlan incorporates so meaningfully into their stories, there is this metaphysical spirituality that lifts your spirits high. People talk about “must reads,” but this series, it is a “must experience.”
This is the third book in a series, but you don’t have to read the first two to understand this one. Three sisters are united. Their history was an intriguing and creative story. This book focuses on Izzy and her realizing her dream in Pueblo, Colorado. Life throws many curves at her in a short amount of time so the pages are packed with events and emotions. Thanks to Harlequin and NetGalley for the advance read.
One can say you can tell difference between two authors. The author that writes the story to be out there b/c its their job. Then there is the author who puts their heart and soul in to every line, every plot and page you read. Audrey Carlan did just that with On The Sweet Side. Her words woven such a heartfelt, funny story. One I think many could relate to. Bittersweet moments, tears of joy and sorrow but wrapped up with insanely beautiful ending. #SisterHoodFTW
On the Sweet Side touched my heart in such a way that it brought new light to my soul and changed me forever! This story is such a breathtaking and inspirational journey that brings a whole new perspective on choices made, chasing dreams, love and life! Izzy is such a beautiful person inside and out and the joy and happiness she brings to everyone around her is amazing to witness. Her grandfather calls her angel and it’s perfect for her. Kyson is a stunning man who knows what he wants, and feels everything to his core. He is determined and loving in all that he does. This couple was abandoned in different ways and while it changed them, it made them into the best versions of themselves for their loved ones and especially each other. Oh how I wish I was Hope’s new mommy and I could bottle up all her sugary sweetness and share it with the world. You need to read this book for the best friend tattoos, the apartment, Jasper, the sugar cookies, Toko and his wisdom, the mermaid Barbie, the letters and Atlantic City alone. On the Sweet Side is exceptional storytelling and the sacrifice, never ending love and hope that cascades across the pages in such a magnificent way proves once again why Audrey Carlan’s stories stand out and are never forgotten.
I absolutely adored this story, book three in Audrey Carlan’s Wish Series! While I enjoyed all three sisters’ journeys, Isabeau’s story was my favorite. The writing was phenomenal and pulled me in right from the start, making me feel like I was experiencing everything alongside the main characters as if I was another member of their family. Isa and Ky were so perfect for each other; not only was their relationship HOT, but it was also deep, emotional, and utterly raw. They made such a cute family; if you know, you know! I loved the themes of sisterhood, brotherhood, family being what you make of it, and of discovering one’s self on life’s path. I truly hope there is a book four, dedicated to their mother - Catori. I can’t wait to see what Audrey Carlan comes up with next, I’ll forever be a fan of anything she writes because it’s just that good!
On the Sweet Side is hook 3 in the Wish Series but you can certainly read and enjoy as a stand-alone. This is Isabeau (Izzy) Collins and her newly found sisters Suda Kaye and Evie’s journey. Izzy is about to start on a new sector of her life when she finds herself torn between opening her new custom cake shop and getting to know her new family. The family were always going to win this battle so it was no surprise that Izzy decides to visit Pueblo, Colorado but she never realised this decision was about to change her life completely because Izzy is also about to find love when she least expects it with single dad Kyson and his little girl. A new life in a new town is just the beginning…. This is a beautifully written journey, it’s about friendships, families, love and adventure, it’s witty, its entertaining and it certainly has plenty of depth, I was blown away by this wonderful addition to the Wish Series and I highly recommend you one click this gem.
On The Sweet Side is the third book in this series and by far the best.. Audrey pulled out all the stops with this one.. Oh my lands!! I loved On The Sweet Side. My emotions were on high alert!! I ugly cried, my heart raced, I laughed until I cried.. Jasper was my absolute favorite character, everyone needs a Jasper in their lives. I loved my girls and their hunky men and Sweet little Hope had my heart!! I love u and thank you for sharing these wonderful words with all of us.. We will want an book in this series, as we will want to know what's happening with Izzy, Suda Kaye, Evie and Jasper along with everyone else.. 🙏
Heartwarming read (and definitely spicy!) about family and acceptance. So much love and light with a dash of dark thrown in just to keep us on our toes.
I loved Ky and Isa…and Hope! They were really a good complement to each other, I loved how they were both so full of life and love, there really was no need for learning it which was a bit refreshing.
I loved all the interaction between Isa, Evie, and Suda Kaye…and Toko! All the family aspects were just amazing.
~I received an ARC of On The Sweet Side to give an honest review~
This is the third book of the Wish series, and my absolute favorite. The story revolves around Isabeau, a long lost sister of Evie and Suda Kaye. She, along with her best friend Jasper, move to Colorado so she can get to know her siblings and learn more about her family history. While getting settled, she meets Kyson and the two hit it off immediately. I don't want to give away too many details, but know that this story has so much heart. I laughed and cried throughout. Izzy and Kyson are my favorite couple. There's so many sweet moments, and the spicy level is 🌶🌶🌶🌶. All of the side characters are great, but Jasper is my favorite. I'm trying to think of anything negative about this book, but coming up empty. This is one I plan to read again and again. I can't wait for the next book

When I started this book, I did not realize that it could be a standalone, or be the third in the Wish series. I recently read the first two books in this series, What the Heart Wants and To Catch a Dream, and I just did not fall into them as much as I usually do with Audrey Carlan’s stories. However, I fell IN LOVE with this part of the story immediately, and ultimately, ended up loving the characters from the first two books so much more because of it. Isabeau, her bestie, her fathers, I just could not get enough! It gave me all the feels; I literally laughed out loud in moments (the bestie is a riot!) and I cried as my heart broke for Isabeau. I just felt the words come to life in my mind and soul. This is a must read as it is such a beautiful and emotional journey!
I’m so happy to happy this 3rd book of the Wish Series out for all to enjoy, just as much as I did. The story of Izzy and Kyson was heartwarming, emotional, inspirational and absolutely perfect. Audrey Carlan has a magical way with her words. The woman is brilliant. She makes you fall in love and connect with the characters in a way that you feel like you are present with them throughout the story. On The Sweet Side is another example of her talent. Read this book for all the feels. The sisterhood, friendship, romance, discovery, love and family. And for Jasper, the best bestie a girl could ask for.
This series has pulled at my heart strings and left a great impression in my life. I can’t wait for Catori’s story, to help find closure and understanding of her life choices. Thank you AC for this sweet and amazing book! Madlove! Nanedsmomba- reviewer and blogger for Life Reads With Friends

5 stars plus Blown away! On the Sweet Side is now one of my favourite stories written by Ms Carlan! Its an incredibly heartwarming, entertaining storyline that will leave you with a big smile on your face. It was an addictive book that I couldn’t put down and Im not sure my review will do this book in anyway justice. Its one that has to be read for yourself to understand and I feel the author has definitely put her heart and soul into it. All the feels for sure and I just loved the characters, especially Isabeau and her best friend Jasper. He is an absolute hoot! These two go on a wonderful journey and I wholeheartedly loved every moment. I highly recommend you pick this book up, its a story not to be missed!
On The Sweet Side is book 3 in the Wish series, and while it could be read as a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading in order as all the books are interconnected and amazing. I don’t have words to describe how incredibly phenomenal this book is! It’s my favorite of the series. I cried, I laughed, I fell in love with the characters - and what a magnificent and diverse cast of characters - I just absolutely adore everything about this book. Audrey Carlan had an exceptional gift for story telling, I am so thankful for her beautiful words and I definitely recommend this book to everyone.
4.5 stars. Another great story by Audrey Carlan. This is the 3rd book in the wish series, although it can be read as a standalone. Izzy’s world is turned upside down when she discovers that her “mother” wasn’t just an egg donor and she has 2 sisters. Her and her best friend Jasper, decide to go on an adventure that will allow her to get to know her sisters. That is where she meets Kyson and sparks fly immediately. As with the others in this series, I loved watching the story unfold. There are also several twists that I wasn’t expecting. This story also brings a lot of steam with it. Definitely a book you won’t want to miss.
Family is what you make it! This was a perfect ending to the series, although I wouldn't object to a follow-up story.
Isabeau and Kyson are two characters that I couldn't get enough of. I guessed his secret right away, but Jasper and Hope were the true scene stealers.
Such a beautiful story about discovering who you truly are and that family comes in all different shapes and sizes.
Honestly, I struggled a bit with the first two books, which broke my heart cuz Audrey is an auto-buy author for me, but I'm so glad I stuck around for the journey.
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
This is the third (and probably final, although I wish it weren't) book in the series, and it is pretty much essential to have read the earlier ones to understand the overall picture. There are plenty of reminders of the underlying plot if it has been a while since you read the last one, but no labouring of the points. What Carlan has done with this series is show us a flawed character, whose actions go against a lot of what is generally perceived as 'right' and unpick the outcomes and make us see there was hope, meaning and above all love in those actions. I don't think that makes it easier for the sisters, but it gives them peace in the end.
Isabeau and her best friend Jasper have just graduated when two women come to the family house and upturn all she has known about herself. As we watch her find herself again, we also see how resilient she is, and how open to new experiences, family and especially to love. Her immediate attraction to Kyson is very endearing, and her newly found sisters provide her with the confidence and support that she needs.
I have put this firmly in my reread when I need cheering up pile, as it definitely needs a tissue to hand, and yet is fun, and life-affirming. Thank you Audrey Carlan for a truly lovely series.
On the Sweet Side is the third installment in Audrey Carlan’s Wish series and from the very first page, you are feeling all of the emotions! After two women show up at her home Isabeau Collins begins a journey to find herself and get to know the family she never knew she had. Izzy and Kyson’s love story is one for the ages. On the Sweet Side is an amazing story of sisterhood, family, love, and everything else that takes us on that journey of discovering ourselves. Audrey Carlan always leads us on a different character’s journey in each one of her books and she has done it yet again. Audrey makes you feel like you’re right there with her characters as she tells their story. If you are looking for a 5+ star series to binge on, then The Wish series is the series you are looking for.
