Heir to the Dark Silence pack, Katie had been kept under lock and key since rogues unalived her mother. As her 18th birthday gets closer and she will become the official heir and discover her mate, Katie's dad makes a merger with another pack and arranges for her to marry their heir. Despite the protests of Katie and her father's beta, who has been in love with her for years, when she sees her new fiancée, Katie can't help but be drawn to him. As rogues infiltrate the Dark Silence pack and dark secrets are revealed, Katie must contend with her multiple admirers, her looming birthday, and her father's loosening grip on his sanity.
Although the plot was good in parts, I wasn't too much of a fan. There's about half a million characters, who are all important puzzle pieces, but it got to the point where I couldn't keep anyone straight. At any given scene, there's at least two packs involved, and everyone's got overlapping histories, and it was not easy to follow. Katie lacked the in-depth characterization I'd expect for the main character, and it's very obvious that she's at an emotional stage younger than her 17 years of age. Every man pursuing her is years older, some her father's age, and the pack beta raised her when her mom di3d, but is now vying for her love. Yuck. There were quite a few misses in the editing process that ripped me out of the story every time, which is a given for an ARC copy, but I switched to the KU version, and found it was the same.
