“The Dreaming Beauty” by Anneka R. Walker is a clean and wholesome historical romance that takes on a somewhat retelling of Sleeping Beauty but in a regency setting with an air of mystery and suspense incorporated in the story.
Marcus Taylor has lived his life as a “steward” to his brother, the Duke of Westmorland for as long as he could remember. He has always been told by his stepmother that his brother’s responsibilities must come first before his. Marcus aspires to expand his knowledge of philosophy and how it relates to dreams. His gift to uncover lies in people has become an invaluable gift as a parttime spy…an occupation his family knows nothing about. He has had his share of unexplainable nightmares that is leaving him with unanswered results and leaving him wanting to give up until he meets Tansy who could somehow be the key.
Tansy White is a beautify and loving individual who is determined to not be left in spinsterhood as her three aunts who have raised her. She has not knowledge of who she is as she doesn’t remember her mother nor her father. What she does know is that her nightmares are more like dreams of premonition that no one truly understands. As she gets closer to her 20th birthday, her aunts have promised to return her to Rose Cottage, the home surrounding her memories of her mother and the questions needing answers so that she can move forward with her life.
Marcus and Tansy meet in unconventional circumstances. Not remembering her way back to Rose Cottage, Tansy is caught in a terrible storm and finds shelter at Ashbury Court. She is discovered by Marcus who helps get her nursed back to health. They become friends as they have a connection of wanting to uncover secrets long held dead. Their relationship gradually grows with every interaction that they find themselves in…whether it is building fairy houses or clandestine meetings with Tansy to help her with her dreams.
Not having liked “The Masked Baron” the first book in this series, I can say that this book was enjoyable that I wanted to get to the end to see what the dreams and secrets uncovered. The relationship between Tansy and Marcus was well-developed and for the most part they are very likeable characters. I loved Marcus willingness to give up his happiness so that Tansy could find love and happiness she has been seeking. They were such a lovely couple who needed to find closure and their own HEA. In this story, Ms. Walker adding the premise of fairies, magic, curses, and ghosts which made for the suspense, twists and uncovering the unknown secrets. This was an enjoyable surprise and good build up to a good ending to the story. My only drawback was that it started off a bit slow but the pace picked up about 50% into the story. In any case, I thought this was a delightful and entertaining story.

“The stars are tranquil and comforting, aren’t they? They see everything that happens, and while I am sure they hold the secrets of the world, they reflect only the light.”
This story was so sweet! Like all of Anneka’s stories, there’s just enough magic and whimsy which seems to captivate me from the beginning.
I loved all of her characters, the intricate plot, and the beautiful setting.
Some parts of the plot seemed to fall into place almost too perfectly at times, but I didn’t really mind that. I thought it worked well for the storyline.
I really enjoyed Marcus’ character! He was the perfect gentleman, almost to a fault. I wish he had asserted himself a bit more or taken a stance on what he actually wanted earlier on, but then again, his character arc was really good as is. It all worked out in the end :)
Misunderstandings drive me batty so I am especially thankful when they get resolved quickly. Anneka did a good job of that through her character Tansy, who instead of ruminating on what-ifs and fears, just pulled the man aside and talked to him. It was refreshing.
I thoroughly enjoyed the subtle details of the pink and blue dresses, the sleeping beauty themes presented as dreams, and the way Anneka wrote her character Daisy. I thought there were many thoughtful details and everything was tackled with grace and intentionality.
Overall, I loved this beautiful book and eagerly await whatever Anneka writes next!!

Wow! I’m truly at a loss for words right now. This story blew me away, and if I could, I’d give it 10 stars!
When I heard about this book, I honestly was hesitant to start it. I mean, a regency retelling of Sleeping Beauty? How in the world would that work? But it did! And I can’t even begin to describe how well it worked, just that it did it perfectly and unexpectedly. At the end all I could do was sit in happy bliss and just soak in the wonderful story I just read.
At one point I thought there was so much going on and it was difficult to keep up with things, but I really think that was a Sabrina problem and not a book problem. (I had a concussion years ago and sometimes it’s hard for me to keep things straight, hence a “Sabrina problem.”) But even so, I loved the plot and how I couldn’t put the book down because I just HAD to know what was going to happen. Many times I can figure out that part of the plot that is supposed to shock or surprise (most of the time towards the end) quite early in the book. But this story kept me guessing and unable to figure out the whole puzzle until each piece was beautifully and craftily revealed to the reader. All the twists and turns this story takes just add to the rich experience you go on while reading it.
And Marcus and Tansy? Holy moly the romance was so sweet and I loved how they each helped each other, plus they grew and developed so well as individuals. They fight for each other, help uncover secrets, and honestly just get each other on that level that makes you really believe in soul mates. Plus the conversations about stars (iykyk) basically made me swoon and sigh like a lovesick puppy.
This is a great regency romance not only filled with mystery and suspense, but also fairies, ghosts, and curses. So if you’re looking for something new in a genre you know and love, this is the perfect book for you.
And now I’m impatiently waiting for the next regency fairytale retelling by the wonderful Anneka R. Walker!

ARW is quickly becoming a favorite of my. Thus was a terrific read. The aunts were delightful and made me feel right at home. It had an interesting plot that held my attention and I loved the romance. This was a compelling mystery with all sorts of secrets. And my favorite thing was how honorable Marcus was.
I also enjoyed the ending. I highly recommend if you love clean romance.

I love fairytale retellings and Anneka Walker does a brilliant job reimagining the classic story of Sleeping Beauty! I enjoyed the way she incorporated so many things from the classic tale yet put her own unique spin on it. From the get go I was invested in Tansy and Marcus and the mystery surrounding both their lives. It’s a magical fresh take on a favorite fairytale combined with a sweet Regency romance.
Tansy is beautiful, thoughtful, yet haunted by her dreams in which she sees both the past and future. After a hurtful betrayal, she and her aunts return to the mysterious Rose Cottage where her mother died hoping to find answers surrounding her past. Finding herself out in the middle of the night lost in a thunderstorm, she seeks shelter at the nearest estate and promptly falls asleep.
Marcus is often unable to sleep and plagued by dreams as well. As a professor, he’s made it his personal study. He’s used his skills to help crown and country and is now caring for his brother’s estate while he’s away. When he finds a beautiful woman asleep in the library, little does he know how she will change his life and unravel his own secrets.
There are so many things to love about this book, from the three lovable aunts to the beautiful imagery of the stars to the palpable attraction between Tansy and Marcus. I also enjoyed Marcus’s brother Simon and his persistent yet carefree personality. I have fond memories of making fairy houses when my daughter was little and loved the way the author used this as another nod to the fairies in Sleeping Beauty. The story kept me enthralled and I couldn’t wait to find out what really happened to Tansy’s parents and what Marcus’ dreams meant. I loved the twists and surprises in this story. Some of my favorite scenes were: the mud fight, the aunts admiring Marcus working, sharing the evening stars, and those amazing kisses.
Definitely recommend to Regency Romance fans and especially fans of fairytale retellings. This book can definitely be read as a standalone however fans of The Masked Baron will enjoy seeing appearances from familiar characters. Can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next! What an adorable and unique regency retelling of Sleeping Beauty!
There were so many tie-ins to the fairytale - fairies, ghosts, curses, the kiss - and it was all done so creatively! Marcus and Tansy were both likable characters with good story arcs and I loved watching their relationship slowly develop into something so sweet and swoony! Loved all the talk about stars and who knew willow trees could be so romantic?
Loved the mystery element and the plot twists kept me glued to the story. There are references to the first book in the series, The Masked Baron, but this absolutely can be read as a standalone. I am excited to see what enchanted regency romance comes next from this author! 4.5 stars

I've never read anything like The Dreaming Beauty! One part fairy tale, one part Regency romance, this book is wholly unique. Told in dual point of view, TDB opens with Marcus Taylor (brother to the Duke of Westmorland), assisting his friend the (un)Masked Baron. It was a delight to see old characters, and the history buff in me loved this scene because of the subtle history lesson. Who knew Napolean attended one of King George's birthday celebrations?!
Marcus was a smart, kind, and thoughtful hero. I adored the meet-cute (who doesn't want to be reduced and cared for by a handsome hero, a la Jane Austen style?). The way he cared for Tansy, and her aunts, was heartwarming. As the story continues, readers learn that he is plagued by nightmares. And watching him unravel the mystery of his dreams was so satisfying.
Tansy White was a soft, caring heroine who is also searching for answers. And she believes the answers she seeks lie within Rose Cottage.

This book was very charming!!! I loved every minute reading it! The way the author tied in the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty was delightful!
There were some twists and turns, plenty of surprises, midnight walks and dreams, struggles, family, humor, delicious and sweet romance, mystery, a curse, fairies, friendship, sweet kisses, more dreams, nightmares, hope, unexpected connections and much, much more!!!
I loved both Tansy and Marcus' characters. They were good, caring, trustworthy, loving and easy to care for characters. Time and time again throughout the story, you witnessed their goodness in many little acts. And in some big acts.
Tansy's aunts were just so much fun! I loved the added depth to the story they brought, but also their fun loving humor. They loved each other fiercely and Tansy as well. I loved watching them protect her and care for her. And in return, she did the same for them. Such a great addition to the story.
Marcus' family had me on edge off and on. There were times I liked them and cheered for some of them. And times that I was hesitant in my thoughts of them. I won't tell you how my thoughts ended up because then that'd be spoiling it for you. But I'll tell you that you're going to be having mixed feelings throughout the whole book, just like me! Which I loved. I didn't want it all cut and dry who they were. I wanted to have those twists and turns and guesses and surprises.
The sweet romance between Tansy and Marcus was well written. I was turning the pages quickly because I wanted to know what was to come for them. Again, those twists and turns played beautifully into their story and kept me guessing and hoping and cheering and swooning throughout the whole book.
Definitely a book I would highly recommend!
Content: Clean. The romance is very sweet, some kisses but nothing further. There is talk of a curse, fairies, and death. But nothing graphic. All done very clean.

I absolutely loved The Dreaming Beauty, the first book of Anneka R. Walker's that I have read. She does an absolutely exquisite job of character development and story-pacing, and the book allowed me to reminisce on some of my all-time favorite reads in the Regency and gothic genres. Even with those reminders, however, I found her characters and storyline to be both completely unique and charming.
Tansy White is the orphaned niece of her three eccentric aunts (Aster, Iris, and Daisy). When she finally meets the man she thinks she could marry, a would-be prophetic dream gives her pause--and causes her to race headlong to the town they live in. Sure enough, she catches the man in the close embrace of another young woman, to his utter dismay. Still, he criticizes her and not his own behavior.
Tansy's aunts decide that it's time to remove Tansy, and themselves, from the Yorkshire area to Rose Cottage, where Rose's mother lived, in the Lake District. But Tansy's unusual nighttime habits--this time including a stroll in her nightgown--cause her to end up drenched after a sudden rainstorm. Also, she can't find her way in the wet dark. She creeps into a large home and finds the coals of a fire glowing in a room. And she promptly falls asleep there.
Marcus Taylor, brother of the estate's ducal owner, finds Tansy there, who's deeply asleep and shivering. He puts her in bed and has the servants call for the local doctor. Marcus also suffers from sleep deprivation, but his is caused by nightmares that he cannot discern the root of. Tansy White is the orphaned niece of her three eccentric aunts (Aster, Iris, and Daisy). When she finally meets the man she thinks she could marry, a would-be prophetic dream gives her pause--and causes her to race headlong to the town they live in. Sure enough, she catches the man in the close embrace of another young woman, to his utter dismay. Still, he criticizes her and not his own behavior.
Tansy's aunts decide that it's time to remove Tansy, and themselves, from the Yorkshire area to Rose Cottage, where Rose's mother lived, in the Lake District. But Tansy's unusual nighttime habits--this time including a stroll in her nightgown--cause her to end up drenched after a sudden rainstorm. Also, she can't find her way in the wet dark. She creeps into a large home and finds the coals of a fire glowing in a room. And she promptly falls asleep there.
Marcus Taylor, brother of the estate's ducal owner, finds Tansy there, who's deeply asleep and shivering. He puts her in bed and has the servants call for the local doctor. Marcus also suffers from sleep deprivation, but his is caused by nightmares that he cannot discern the root of. While growing up I loved reading fairytales, so when I heard this book was inspired by Sleeping Beauty I knew I had to read it. I love this author's books so that just made me more excited to get started reading this story.
I really liked the characters of Tansy and Marcus--they were both kind people who helped others, and they were so cute together. Tansy's aunts were fun, with their little idiosyncrasies. I loved how loyal they were to their family. Something felt off about Marcus' family and there were times I couldn't decide if his brother Simon was a good guy or if he had an ulterior motive for wanting to spend time with Tansy.
I've always loved mysteries and I was intrigued by Tansy and Marcus' recurring dreams--why did they have them, what did they mean? I had so many questions. The Dreaming Beauty provides readers with a fairy-tale atmosphere while maintaining a very realistic, down-to-earth plotline. This was my favorite aspect of this book and achieving this balance was a true display of the author's talent. I enjoyed reading this one and think it would be a good pick for historical fiction fans in the mood for a light and sweet romance. This book appears to be a continuation of The Masked Baron, but reading it first is not necessary, as I felt no loss in understanding in starting where I did. If you are starting from scratch, however, and you desire to lengthen your reading time in this area, I'd say start at the beginning. I really liked the characters in this story. None were dull and each were well crafted, unique, and served their intended purpose well. Could there be another story that comes out of this one? Perhaps one where Simon will take center stage? If my assumptions are correct, I will happily add it to my TBR list.

I think Walker's writing is getting better and better!! 'The Dreaming Beauty' is an amazingly written novel that winds its own path through a web of lies and deceit, that make the ending impossible to predict. This novel was a fun read and a wonderful adventure.

Anneka Walker has a way with weaving a fairy tale into an amazing regency romance! I loved The Masked Baron and was so excited to get to read this one. And isn’t that cover amazing?!
Tansy is an amazing character! I loved the way the reader got to know her and her story better and better the deeper they got into the story. And the way the author weaved a mystery in here was just amazing as well! I loved the way Tansy cared for her aunts, helping them with whatever they needed.

This author just keeps getting better and better! This latest is her best so far, and a very clever retelling of Sleeping Beauty, set in the Regency era.
I loved the characters and their friendships and connections. The romance was swoon-worthy and satisfying. An element of mystery kept me intrigued, and I loved discovering secrets as the characters did.

This was a very unique regency retelling. I loved all the nods to the fairy tell and was surprised by the magic and mystery woven through out. Silly aunts, fairies, ghosts, curses, the kiss, and I’d even say there was a nod to the dragon in a castle.
My favorite part was trying to figure out the mystery and there was even a surprise extra mystery I wasn’t expecting. The romance was slow and light. Their chemistry was sweet and loyal. A fun read if you like retellings! There was an appearance of the masked barren from a previous book, but this could be read as a stand alone novel.

There was a lot to enjoy about this book!
First off- the mystery was intriguing--and subtle; making it perfect for all audiences, especially the younger crowd. There were a lot of twists and turns that made turning each page new and exciting. There were a lot of plot twists in this one that I definitely did not see coming.
Second... the characters! Tansy had such a fun personality. I usually lean towards the take-charge female main characters and while Tansy was completely different in that regard, she was also a very strong character...just in a more reserved way. Marcus was so patient and caring. The two really suited each other and it was fun to cheer them on and hope their romance would lead to the happy ever after we're all looking for!
I haven't read the first book in this series and while there was mention of 'The Masked Baron' I didn't feel that it took away from any enjoyment from reading this book. I love the subtle hints to the respective fairytale and the different elements it added to the overall storyline! My fingers are also crossed a certain character from this book gets his story!!

This was a wild and beautiful retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I loved Tansy's character. At times she seemed fragile and naive, but other times she was so strong and wonderful. My heart really went out to her. I wanted her to get all the answers she sought. Marcus was such a great guy. You couldn't help but love him, as all the women in this book quickly discovered. I loved Tansy's family. They added so much to this story and endeared you even more to Tansy and Marcus. There were some crazy twists and turns in this story and the suspense and mystery made it hard to put it down.

Fairytale retellings are one of my comfort reads. I already know the premise, but love how the authors revamp and make it their own story.
@authorannekawalker took Sleeping Beauty and transformed her into a Dreaming Beauty. A woman who isn’t only beautiful and kind, but resilient and brave too.
Readers will absorb the magic and whimsical elements in the story; as well as the mystery and darkness surrounding the two lovers battling their own nightmares.
I enjoyed this book’s lush imagery, fairytale setting, and balance between plot twists and predictability. Definitely check it out if you enjoy retellings.

After months where I've struggled to read or get into a book, this one was the perfect read for me! Historical fiction is not a genre I read often, but I absolutely loved this one and will definitely be reading more from this author.
This sweet, historical romance doubles as a Sleeping Beauty retelling, though it approaches the "sleeping curse" in its own way. No character pricks their finger and falls into an enchanted sleep; instead, the sleeping curse is evident in the dreams both main characters wrestle with.
I absolutely loved the romance and chemistry between Tansy and Marcus. They had many adorable moments together, as well as their fair share of troubles. By the end of the book, I was incredibly invested in their relationship and begging for things to work out.
One of my favorite things about this book was Tansy's aunts! They were hilarious, and I loved Tansy's relationship with all of them. More than that, I enjoyed how Marcus took the time to get to know them and was there for them when needed.
I also liked the mystery of the dreams and why both main characters struggled with them. It added a nice layer of suspense to the story that kept me intrigued until the very end.
As someone who usually sticks to fantasy romance, I can honestly say I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. It was wholesome and comforting, and I was drawn into the romance immediately. The Dreaming Beauty is a new Wholesome Regency Romance with fairytale Sleeping Beauty influences weaved throughout the story. Anneka Walker has created another charming story with more great characters. This novel also has characters from the book, The Masked Baron that I loved. The good thing is, The Dreaming Beauty can be read as a stand-alone novel.
The beauty in this story is Tansy White who has been living with her three peculiar aunts since the age of five after her mother died. When she is about to turn twenty, they decide it's time to take Tansy to Rose Cottage where she used to live. The three quirky aunts reminded me a lot of the three fairies in Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Though there isn't magic at Rose Cottage, there is a sense of mystery and wonder. I truly loved Aunt Daisy who had the heart and mind of a child and believed in fairies.
Of course, you can't have a Sleeping Beauty story without a handsome prince. This handsome man was Marcus Taylor, who lived close by and was brother to the Duke of Westmorland. By chance of fate on a dark and stormy night, Marcus saves Tansy, and then a spark is lit. There is a lot of push and pull between these two. They both are having disturbing dreams that make them wary of others and life in general. The romance is slow building and it felt absolutely appropriate in this story. Marcus is a true hero as he is kind, helpful, and loyal to those around him. There is no way any woman wouldn't fall in love with him. Simon, Marcus's brother, thinks differently though. It was easy for me to pick a favorite brother.
There were some surprising mysteries that unfold in the last several chapters of the book. Some were more apparent than others. For Tansy's well-being, I wish she would have found out some truths a lot earlier than she did. Her aunts had kept their lips sealed about family secrets that eventually were spilled for all to hear. This novel does have its HEA (Happily Ever After) and The Dreaming Beauty certainly delivers on its fairytale feel.

4.5* Prepare for a gently superstitious cast of characters in this delightful story that takes you through many plot twists and turns! I especially appreciated and enjoyed the natural way the romance unfolded, the respect the characters had for each other, and the unique premise of the story. This follow-up to The Masked Baron in Anneka Walker's Enchanted Regency Romance Series can stand alone, although having a reference point for who the Masked Baron is was helpful.

I liked this book! It’s a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, and I haven’t read many retellings of that particular fairy tale. It was fun to see the masked baron and his wife in this book, and I did not expect the ending! This is a companion novel to Anneka’s The Masked Baron, but you don’t have to read that to enjoy this book, although I loved that one, so I recommend reading it if you haven’t.

The Dreaming Beauty is an interesting retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Walker did a great job of making this story her own. She held true to the basics of the beloved story we know, but twisted the tale in a way that I thought was creative and fun. Tansy and Marcus were well written characters that I grew to love.
I will admit the story started out a little on the slow side for me. I would have preferred a faster pace, but that is just my opinion. I stuck with it, and I am glad because by about the midway point or a little sooner even, it picked up and I became invested in the storyline. I appreciated the way the author wrote Tansy and Marcus’ relationship. Friends first really. I think it made the story better all around instead of them just swooning over each other, which would have spoiled the storyline for me.

I loved the loose threads of Sleeping Beauty in this story. Tansy White is being raised by her three aunts. She knows a little about her mother, and nothing about her father. She has dreams of the past and occasionally premonitions of the future. When her aunts bring her to Rose Cottage, she hopes to find answers about her mother, but seems to keep hitting dead ends.
When Marcus Taylor meets Tansy he feels like she's part fairy. She's put him under her spell. Being plagued by nightmares himself, he's been making a study of other's experiences with vivid dreams. He wants to know Tansy's secrets, but some secrets seem too dangerous to share.
I loved the friendship between Tansy and Marcus. It bloomed into a beautiful romance. I loved the aunts, especially Marcus' gentle care with Daisy. This book was full of mystery. I've only read one other book by Anneka Walker--Bargaining for the Barrister--and I enjoyed it. She's not a novice author as far as I can tell since she has 14 published works (including anthologies). That being said, pieces of The Dreaming Beauty felt unpolished. I'll do my best to explain.
I wasn't sure, given the description and how certain pieces of this story are written, if this was intended to be fantasy in a historical fiction setting. I'll clear it up for you, it's not. But Tansy has dreams that sometimes seem prophetic. She dreams of Rose Cottage in vivid detail when she's never seen it before. And some other dreams appear to be prophetic, essentially warning her of something bad about to happen. Tansy's aunts all refer to a curse upon their family. The curse results in all the female aunts (sisters) being alone. One aunt's husband left her, although they claim he died. One aunt's husband did die. And one aunt is barely older than Tansy and has never married as far as I can tell. Tansy's mother died of an illness when she was very young. And there is an estranged aunt none of the family has heard from in many years.
Marcus has been plagued by dreams all his life. Nightmares. And he doesn't know how to explain them or how to get them to stop. He began to research dreams, but it was difficult to get a subject who had similarities to his own dreams until he meets Tansey. Marcus's dreams don't appear to be prophetic, but there's a mystery within them.
One of my biggest frustrations with mysteries is how side characters often have more information than the main characters. The main characters know the side characters know so much more than them, but the side characters refuse to enlighten the ones who really need the knowledge they hold. And so the story drags on. Either leaking snippets here or there or by the secondary characters holding it over their heads that one day the time will be right and all the information will be revealed. For me, this is just frustrating as a reader, and I would be quite frustrated were I the main character as well.
I found myself annoyed with Marcus and Simon. I don't understand why Marcus couldn't be open with Simon about his feelings for Tansy up front. He kept pursuing his own relationship with her even after finding out that Simon was interested in her. I don't know what his plan was. I mean he makes plans to go back to teaching in order to have a profession where he would be able to court Tansy. But he uses that as a method of escape instead. And then for Simon to say later that he knew Marcus was interested in Tansy, I don't understand pursuing someone that you know your sibling is interested in.

All in all, I was a little disappointed with The Dreaming Beauty. The mystery aspects were just frustrating. I didn't feel any excitement about discovering the secrets, I just felt annoyed that the characters that had more information weren't sharing it. I wasn't sure, given the description and how certain pieces of this story are written, if this was intended to be fantasy in a historical fiction setting. I'll clear it up for you, it's not. But Tansy has dreams that sometimes seem prophetic. She dreams of Rose Cottage in vivid detail when she's never seen it before. And some other dreams appear to be prophetic, essentially warning her of something bad about to happen. Tansy's aunts all refer to a curse upon their family. The curse results in all the female aunts (sisters) being alone. One aunt's husband left her, although they claim he died. One aunt's husband did die. And one aunt is barely older than Tansy and has never married as far as I can tell. Tansy's mother died of an illness when she was very young. And there is an estranged aunt none of the family has heard from in many years.
Marcus has been plagued by dreams all his life. Nightmares. And he doesn't know how to explain them or how to get them to stop. He began to research dreams, but it was difficult to get a subject who had similarities to his own dreams until he meets Tansey. Marcus's dreams don't appear to be prophetic, but there's a mystery within them.
One of my biggest frustrations with mysteries is how side characters often have more information than the main characters. The main characters know the side characters know so much more than them, but the side characters refuse to enlighten the ones who really need the knowledge they hold. And so the story drags on. Either leaking snippets here or there or by the secondary characters holding it over their heads that one day the time will be right and all the information will be revealed. For me, this is just frustrating as a reader, and I would be quite frustrated were I the main character as well.
I found myself annoyed with Marcus and Simon. I don't understand why Marcus couldn't be open with Simon about his feelings for Tansy up front. He kept pursuing his own relationship with her even after finding out that Simon was interested in her. I don't know what his plan was. I mean he makes plans to go back to teaching in order to have a profession where he would be able to court Tansy. But he uses that as a method of escape instead. And then for Simon to say later that he knew Marcus was interested in Tansy, I don't understand pursuing someone that you know your sibling is interested in.

All in all, I was a little disappointed with The Dreaming Beauty. The mystery aspects were just frustrating. I didn't feel any excitement about discovering the secrets, I just felt annoyed that the characters that had more information weren't sharing it. I liked Marcus and Tansy's relationship, but Marcus was a bit of a dunderhead when it came to Simon's interest in Tansy. The Dreaming Beauty gets 3 Stars. Have you read The Dreaming Beauty? This book brought magic to the Regency Era in the most fantastic, realistic ways. I loved the nods to the original fairytale, especially the emphasis on dreams. The aunts were a hoot! I related to every character in this book in one way or another. About halfway through the book I thought, "well, this is a little predictable" but the ending still managed to catch me off guard. It took a few chapters to really get into the book, but by the end I was willing to give up my beauty sleep to finish the story. Four stars, definitely recommend!
