WOW! What an awesome start to a new series! I started this book at night and read until I fell asleep, then picked it up again as soon as I got up. I can not wait for book #2.
This story is similar to the authors Ten Seconds series, as it starts out kind of slow but quickly ramps up and has several twists and turns I could not have predicted!! As soon as I thought I had figured out who the "bad guys" were something would happen and I'd change my mind. It kind of has a sci-fi element to it which I can't explain without giving anything away, but you'll understand once you start reading it.
You'll want to make sure you have plenty of time to read before starting this one, because you're not going to want to put it down. L.A. Clayton has quickly become one of my favorite suspense authors.
I desperately wanted to binge this book as I did the “Ten Second” series, however there was a lot of information to absorb. Much of this book takes place in Channing’s head- via it be her reflecting, inner thoughts, or other means (no spoilers here, wink wink)!
I’m interested to see where this series goes.
If I could give LA Clayton one recommendation, can we have a little romance next time? Pleaseeeeee
This is a great start to another super interesting series. I love the intrigue that Clayton perfectly sets up with each new revelation. Just when you think you may figure something out, the plots gets thicker. LOVE!! Cannot wait until book 2!!!
Thrilling and suspenseful, this book set the stage for an action packed adventure. I loved how the story had so many layers to uncover that left me on the edge of my seat. There are so many twists and turns that I couldn’t figure out what was happening next. The characters had pulled you into their story and made it a quick and interesting read. Highly recommend.
More sci-fi than I expected. Parts were very technical about the brain, and I'm a nurse. Wasn't warned about cliffhanger ending. Was well written, just not what I expected or prefer to read.
Similar to the 10 seconds series, this book start slowly, hit a major plot turn and took off in a way that I couldn’t put it down. Having read that series, I expect major plot twists that I won’t see coming in this series.
As a child Channing witnessed her father strangling her mother. Subsequently Channing is put into foster care and experiences living with a number of families , none of which are positive. Things deteriorate further when she has to fend for herself. When her only friend needs help Channing assists her in the only way she knows how. This method unleashes a chain of events which Channing cannot control and which lead her to question the reality of her existence - who is she?
Channing had a rough life after witnessing her father strangle her mother. A book written boy Channing was about to be released. Then all the world Channing knew was falling apart. She was chipped at a young age and memories altered. Who was she? What is the truth?
This book had a great story line with strong characters who continued to develop as the story progressed. I’m always somewhat disappointed when a sequel is needed to complete the story, but that doesn’t take away from the author’s work.
The idea that all humans are chipped when they are born is frightening and scary to me. Too much government control if one exhibits certain traits. And to read about what potentially can happen makes this story fascinating.
In this novel Channing- the main character keeps you forever guessing. The detail Clayton provides will not let you put this book down nor let you stop trying to figure out who you know and what you don’t know. I highly recommend this book. L. Doneghy
This book was such a fantastic surprise! An interesting concept, loads of twists and some sexual frisson to boot. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
