Top Notch is the unpredictably fun and assassin-worthy whodunit starring the endearing and scrappy Mia Murphy and her purloined cat, back in action after the surprise bestseller Double Twist thrust them into the spotlight.

No one liked celebrity portrait artist and sexy-times rich recluse Rutherford Callahan, but who would want to kill him? Certainly not Hattie Lawless, the blue-haired senior whose massive nude portrait is currently hanging in the dead guy's studio…

But the cops disagree, and so does the evidence.

Mia isn't about to let her new bestie spend her golden years behind bars, so once again, she must break her law-abiding promise to herself and get back in the game, dusting off long-buried skills from her criminal childhood.

With bodies piling up and threats coming from all directions, Mia and her pals are soon ankle-deep in corpses, diamonds, pickpocketing schemes, celebrity wedding drama, and stolen cinnamon bun recipes.

And when it looks like an enemy from Mia's past has targeted her, the stakes suddenly become much more personal. Not even her smoldering FBI handler or an irritatingly attractive bodyguard cop can keep Mia safe if she doesn't play by the rules.

And since Mia and rules don't go together…well…things are about to get dangerous. And deadly. And cinnamon-bun delicious.

Top Notch by Stephanie Rowe
#2 in the Mia Murphy mystery series. Wacky amateur murder mystery.
Mia has only been in the small town for a few days and already, her life is upended by another dead body. Of course she’s going to investigate. She can’t trust the police to clear Hattie.

An amusing dash of sleuthing and friends that support each other through murder, fire and crazy situations. Gotta love the Maine Coon cat that protects and is feared by grown men.

Excerpts that struck me as funny:
“ Did you know Rutherford? Do you know anyone who would want him killed? Or blame Hattie for it? Or did you do it?" I threw in that last one because nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?”

Excerpt:
“Devlin was so adorable when he was being stubborn and intractable. Except, of course, when he was in my way. Then, not so cute.”

Witty whodunit ❤

Mia, King Tut and of course the Seam Rippers are back again in a rip roaring adventure!! Get ready for more murder mysteries, hilarity, flirting, whodunit, and kitty hijinx 😆❤. Can Mia outrun her past, or has it found her yet again? Danger comes a calling once more. The Seam Rippers and Mia band together to try and save the reputation of one of their own- and *maybe* figure out who did it along the way. Get ready for all kinds of crazy twists and turns in this hysterical ride. Trying to stay one step ahead of a sexy local cop, *and* an overprotective kitty aka King Tut isn't as easy as it sounds 😉. I loved every moment of this gem. I highly recommend this book!

We are back with Mia and the gang! Starting a few days after we left the last book, Mia is on the lookout for assassins with her trusty hair dryer, and bodyguard King Tut when her new best friends drag her off to rescue some ladies whose boat is stuck on an island... Since it's Mia going along I think we can guess that a body will be found... and yep there it is! Of course one of Mia's friends are at the top of the list for the murder so she has to dig in with Lucy, and some new friends to make sure Hattie doesn't go down for a crime she didn't commit.

The mystery in this was top notch! (lol) I had no idea who the killer was until the moment Mia revealed it, and I had such fun going along for the ride trying to figure it out. I love Mia's interactions with everyone, especially Devlin and Griselda. She had me laughing out loud constantly.
Also, I think King Tut might be my favorite water-loving bodyguard/ kitty cat companion that I've ever read!

I absolutely can not wait until we get the third book, and see what kind of shenanigans Mia and her friends can get into next!

Top Notch
By Stephanie Rowe

Mia is at it again… murderers beware!

Top Notch is the second book in Stephanie Rowe’s cozy mystery series. Mia has moved to Bass Derby, ME to get away from the assassins looking to kill her for turning her ex husband (and drug kingpin) into the FBI. She bought a marina rather than go into witness protection and she’s been there for three days. In that time she’s already found one killer (Double Twist - book 1), and now Mia and her friends Hattie and Lucy are on the hunt for another murderer.

Someone killed the local artist and used Hattie’s anchor to make sure he sinks to the bottom of the lake. Mia, Lucy - the local postal carrier, and Hattie - cafe owner extraordinaire hop on the case before Hattie is arrested by the local (and hot) police officer, Devlin. Mia once again needs to put her childhood criminal talents to good use in order to save her new friend. Yes, her childhood was very unique.

Along with Lucy and Hattie, we’re introduced to Beau the resident mystery author who is fascinated with Mia, her history with her mother, and all the wonderful information he can get for future books. We get to see the Seam Rippers again. A gang of senior ladies who sew, and drink, and love to be involved. They are awesome!!!

There was so much fun in the chase in Top Notch. I was catapulted into the story and remained captivated until the end. I absolutely loved meeting Beau and hope to see more of his cranky character in upcoming books. Devlin, the hot cop, who is supposed to watching out for Mia falls a little more under her spell. And I LOVED Griselda (aka Hawk, aka FBI Agent Strauss) show is hand, or rather feelings for Mia.

The banter between the characters is witty and Mia’s internal monologue is down right laugh out loud! Plus don’t underestimate Mia wielding her hair dryer!!! I’m totally emotionally invested in Mia as she finds a home and real friendship in Bass Derby. Go Mia!!!

This is my honest and voluntary review for the arc I received.

Stephanie Rowe can write any genre she wants to and do it incredibly well. I love her second Cozy Mystery, Top Notch. The cast is all back, well except the bad guys she helped nail of course. Lucy and Hattie are still her back up, her friends and her cohorts in not-quite-crime to solve more murders. Devlin is back and things are progressing, very slowly. Even Griselda makes an appearance again with some interesting new interactions.

The characters are getting even more interesting, and who would have thought that was possible? The towns people more colorful. Mia more interesting. There's so much going on in this book and Mia and the gang are so busy it's amazing they can keep up and solve another case.

I love this book, this series and this author!

Thanks to the author for the ARC.

Top Notch by Stephanie Rowe is an entertaining cozy mystery featuring Mia Murphy. Mia is in her late 20s and has moved to Bass Derby, Maine where she has bought a run-down marina. She has only been there a week but she has made some fast friends in Hattie and Lucy. Hattie is 80ish and runs a cafe in a portion of the marina. Lucy delivers mail. The third store in the marina is empty, having housed a tattoo parlor that has been out of business for years. It is night and as is often the case, Mia can’t sleep. She is paranoid. She had helped the FBI bring down her drug lord husband and already one attempt had been made on her life. Also, she was sleeping on a pile of life vests as the apartment she was to occupy smelled and the fumigators hadn’t been yet. They were scheduled. Next thing she knew she was on a motorboat racing to assist some friends of Hatties. They were drinking on an island and their anchor had gotten stuck so they couldn’t leave. Yes, mostly old ladies like Hattie. Upon arrival it became obvious that they couldn’t all fit in one boat so Lucy and Mia tried to loosen the anchor from whatever it was tangled in. Finally . . . but attached to the anchor was . . . a dead body. Well!

Mia is a good character, the daughter of a fairly famous con artist, who has retained many of her skills. She is an excellent pickpocket, a good enough lock picker, and a creative mind. She doesn’t want to be a criminal. She wants a peaceful life. She bought the marina, sight unseen, from an ad she found and looked ay every day during her ex-husband’s trial, giving herself something to look forward to. She is quirky, but oddly endearing. Her friends, the first she’s ever had, are interesting as well, both with backstories and both 100% loyal. The lake policeman, Devlin, turns out to be the old friend of her FBI handler and as hot as they come, but she’s sworn off men. Obviously she has terrible taste. The murder(s) are local. Local deaths, local perpetrator. It was a decent mystery, if Mia and her friends did run off a little half-cocked. It is a fun read. Certainly different. I recommend it.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Top Notch by the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #AuthenticityPlaygroundPress #StephanieRowe #TopNotch

More ridiculous semi-dangerous but fun adventures with Mia and the crew

Mia Murphy and her best friends/amateur sleuths continue in their bumbling adventures in solving murders. This book starts approximately 24 hours after the last book ended but it’s still a stand alone book. You can read and enjoy this one without reading the first book. However, it is worth reading the whole series because they’re delightful stories. Just like the first book, the story hooked me in and took me along for a hilarious and twisty ride while Mia makes and enacts somewhat cockamamie plans to solve crimes. Mia has a colorful past. She is the daughter of a conwoman and pickpocket and she spent the last two years as an FBI informant to help convict her drug kingpin husband. She’s determined to fix up the marina she purchased in Bass Derby, a small town in Maine, and become a happy law abiding resident. Unfortunately, a dead body has been found by Mia (the discovery of which was over-the-top horrifyingly hilarious) and one of Mia’s friends is the prime suspect. Not trusting the cops and wanting to save her friend, Mia attempts to locate the real murderer. The amateur sleuths get themselves into absurdly funny and sometimes dangerous situations. They are witty and endearing characters who are also real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best. The majority of the same characters from the first book are in this story plus a few new ones have been added. This book has a little bit of everything like you would expect from a good cozy mystery - sweet moments, strong friendships, snort worthy situations, real life issues, imperfect characters, painful pasts, dangerous situations, small town quirky people, shady characters, incompetent police, competent sexy police, twists and turns, moral dilemmas, self-reflection, a ferocious but loyal cat, mystery and secrets. The book was well written, contained witty dialogue, characters with depth and an engaging storyline. I definitely need more Mia Murphy in my life. I willingly reviewed an early copy of this book.

Oh where to begin.
I can not tell you how freaking good this book is. Once you start you’ll never stop. You’re going to need something to stop you from peeing in your pants because it’s that damn funny.
Mia finds herself in the thick of everything that she doesn’t want to find herself in, or does she? With her two sidekicks and a huge grouchy cat they can fend off anything right?
Join the crew with another mystery to solve.
I absolutely devoured this book. Loved loved loved it.
Hope we get more soon.
I recommend this book to every reader. Some real feel good vibes.

I love Stephanie's books and this one made me laugh from the get go. The Seam Rippers are so funny and it took me a little bit to figure out who was the killer and even then it wasn't until just before the end. I love the story and how Mia, Hattie and Lucy get involved and how Devlin tries to keep her out of it. I also like how Stephanie keeps to the timeline only one week between the end of book 1 and the end of book 2. I can't wait until the 3rd book comes out.

Mia and King Tut are out to solve another mystery. Apparently the universe doesn’t want Mia to have a quiet and safe life.

She is on a mission to clear Hattie’s name-whatever it takes. This book is FUNNY, well written and keeps you guessing. The characters come to life and they feel like friends-my favorite.

🐈‍⬛King Tut is an actual King and I’m obsessed with him.

Thank you the author for my ARC!

Stephanie Rowe has done it again. This book is just fantastic. It keeps you on your toes trying to find out who the murder is. Mia, Hattie & Lucy are hysterical. This book had me laughing so many times. King Tut is a wonderful cat an adds so much to the story. Plus who will Mia choose, Griselda or Devlin. Can’t wait for more from Mia and the ladies.

What can I say about this book that will convey how awesome I think it is? The characters are delightful. Even Chief Stone, who uses just about any excuse to arrest or detain our heroine, Mia Murphy. This second book in the Mia Murphy series finds Mia, Lucy, and Hattie trying to figure out who would commit murder and try and frame Hattie for it. I mean according to Hattie, everyone loves her! Mia even though committed to a law abiding life can’t allow one of her only friends to go down for a crime she didn’t commit so armed with her handy blow dryer, Mia and her two besties will take you on an adventure full of laughs, a little pickpocketing, lock picking, party crashing, maybe a harmless con or two all in the name of friendship. Don’t forget King Tut the amazing, lovable, but ferocious cat will also be causing a little chaos of his own as cats do!

Stephanie Rowe has such a way with words! Her offbeat humour and madcap adventures are absolutely mesmerizing! Top Notch is the second book in her cozy mystery series and we pick up right where the first book ended. Everyone from the first book is back except for a few bad guys and the not so sleepy little town just keeps on surprising us. Seems Mia, Hattie, and Lucy just have a knack for finding trouble. Good thing they have backup from an oddball assortment of characters as well as Mia’s trusty attack cat, King Tut. Throw in an interesting twist with some certain gentlemen and it begins to get really interesting. I can’t wait for the next book in this quirky series. Who knows what will happen next?

I have been reading this author for years, and while I generally only read paranormal, I had to give this series a try. This is the second book, and I am so in love with Mia and her friends. While I know that the investigators wouldn’t act that way in real life, I love how they work with Mia, Lucy, and Hattie. It’s just so much fun. I find books funny all the time, but this series just have me literally laughing out loud. We do find out a secret in this one, but I wasn’t too shocked by it. Non-stop high jinks, great characters, and above all, wonderful and engaging writing. Give it a try! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The Gang Is Back

The Eagle Nest ladies Mia, Harriet and Lucy are back at it again. These women are what besties should truly be. Fighting to protect, willing to be a shoulder to lean on and helping to help keep you out of jail.

There is never a dull moment when someone is trying to kill your friend at any given moment.

It helps when you have two hot looking law officers trying to keep you alive.

I was given a free copy of the book. I'm voluntarily writing a review as the book is really worth reading.

Mia and the madcap crew are back again. Bass Derby has never had a homicide rate this high..ever!

Mia has only been in Bass Derby, Maine for less than a week and now she's involved in her 2nd murder! She came t the small town to get away from danger after being undercover for the FBI to snag her drug-dealing ex-hubby. But danger seems to have followed her and now another of her friends is in the frame for murder.

A local celebrity artist with a penchant for sleeping with his models has been found dead and now her new friend, Hattie, has been framed for it. Mia, Lucy, and the Seam Rippers will do everything they can to free her.

Devlin has to follow the evidence and arrest Hattie, any warm feelings Mia had for him are now in abeyance, she can't have feelings for the guy who slapped handcuffs on her new bestie!

Watch as Mia once again delver into her former conwoman bag of tricks to help investigate and free Hattie. There are lots of new characters to meet and greet including, Beau a mystery writer with a crush on Mia's mum, and the local mayor, mother of the inept Sheriff, and aunt of Lucy. The Seam Rippers is a group I'd join in a heartbeat - they are a complete hoot!

A great mix of murder mystery, madcap madness and with a subtle love triangle. With Devlin and now it would seem Griseldam making their feelings for Mia known, things are about to get tangled in Bass Derby! The banter is brilliant and the put downs are on point! With Mia sharing my dislike of guns, she's found out a hairdryer is a deadly weapon!!

This series is absolutely bonkers.

Somehow at the end of book two Mia has only lived there for a week. Like how?

Her friend Hattie is framed for the murder of a famous local artist and MIA and company set out to prove her innocence. As usual, the cops are useless and refuse to believe her. What’s worse is someone broke into her home and bugged her apartment and they don’t know who or why.

The locals still think she took over her husband’s drug business and she’s fighting to host a special event to put her marina back on the map. Also somehow after a week she hasn’t met her one employee Cargo. Idk why but I feel like it has to be someone we already know.

Spoilers follow
Essentially the painter’s nephew (I think) who was getting married to a local girl, killed his uncle because the uncle had been in love with his soon to be wife. Her mom tries to cover it up (and she’s a local leader so not ideal). Also broke into Hattie’s restaurant and planted fake drugs in Mia’s car.

At the same time another chef stole recipes from Hattie so there was like a dual crime happening.

King Tut the cat returns, protecting his mom and being absolutely ridiculous. The hot local
Cop asks her out but she’s pretending she doesn’t want to date him. Meanwhile her FBI handler shows up to help her out and I guess he wants to date her too.

This is book #2 in Stephanie Rowe's mystery series. Take note - this read is a ROMP, and about incredulous situations, crazy friends, and finding yourself after some really bad decisions. To enjoy this book, put aside any nitpicky things about realism of situations and just enjoy the witty dialogue and hilarious inner monologue of the lead character, Mia.

Is it insane that this book is set only 3 days after Mia has moved to town? Yes. However, that makes it even more interesting, as she learns more about people in emotional situations that usually take years to discover.

The first couple of chapters were a little slow for me, but after they find the body, it picks up fast and the action flies through to the end.

Again, my favorite parts are similar to this author's other works - the female characters are written with depth. They're not perfect, they're not super stupid, and they don't necessarily need saving (although it's nice to have a little help sometimes when being chased by assassins). I also love the friendship between the main three of the group; they help prop each other up.

I recommend if you like witty dialogue, strong female characters, and story that keeps the action moving (once you're through the initial set-up).

Warnings:
#1) This is Book 2 in the series.
#2) Cliffhanger...kinda.
#3) Witty banter

It's hard to believe that only 24 hours after catching the last murderer in town, she's face-to-face with yet another! At first, I was like there's no way, but then I remembered: it's a small town. And if you have ever lived in a small town, you know ALLLLLL about the drama. Not murder so much, but definitely drama!

I love the strength of the characters and the loyal bond they all quickly develop. They're smart women who can take care of themselves, even when they've got some handsome men to help out.

It's a fast-paced book with engaging dialogue, a decidedly slow burn (which isn't even kindling yet!), and stellar characters. You can definitely read this as a stand-alone, but there's something to be said for reading from Book 1. Also, while the main conflict is solved (the murder), there's a mini-cliffhanger that sets you up nicely for Book 3. Not to mention: could Book 3 also bring us a love triangle?!?!

(I received this book as an ARC for my honest review.)

These books are Girl Power Extraordinaire! I've laughed out loud while reading and even cried a bit. And there's wonderful flirting!

In the 1st book, I was crazy over Mia's (first) new friends Lucy and Hattie. Hattie is more than a little crazy and a 70 yr old race car driver. Now we get involved with the Seam Rippers, a group of 60+ quilters who only work on commissions and are having a seance in the lake to contact a multiple murder while drinking margaritas as inspiration for their latest project. They are a hoot!

This book starts the day after the last book, so Mia is still trying to figure out what to do with the dilapidated marina she purchased sight unseen. And her history as a drug kingpin's wife is still haunting her. And she gets up close and personal with a dead body. How does she keep her friend from being arrested for the murder?

Oh, and I forgot King Tut! The only male in Mia's life, a Maine Coon guard cat! I'm not a cat person and I really want to meet him.

A rollicking good time.
With Top Notch, her newest release in the Mia Murphy series, Stephanie Rowe brings us another hilarious adventure not to be missed. Mia keeps us connected to the seriousness of the murder and danger, while Lucy and Hattie keep us in stitches as they roll over Mia in their investigation of a murder for which septuagenarian Hattie is the prime suspect. Not only do we have Devlin to drool over, but Gertrude is back. For newbies, that is the nickname Mia gave to the agent in charge of protecting her during the two years she was undercover collecting evidence of her husband's drug crimes for the feds.
Life was supposed to slow down when she bought a marina on Moose Lake, but then nothing has ever turned out quite the way she would like. This time, it is worth it. An amazing diving cat, two best but slightly crazy friends, and two hot guys. No scratch that last one she is NOT interest. Not, not, NOT interested.
The mystery is as challenging as it is dangerous, but these three ladies and a new friend are more than up to the challenge, she hopes.

Ok I want to be the fourth member of this crew. I seriously love Mia, Hattie and Lucy. I swear the antics they get up to and get themselves in are hilarious!

The chemistry between these gals is legit amazing. They feed off each other perfectly. I really love Mia though, she is such an awesome character. Her inner monologue and thought process had me laughing quite a bit. And I mean of course I can’t forget about King Tut, he pretty much steals each scene he’s in hehe

Trying to figure out who did it was fun from the beginning to the end. You first went one way thinking ok yeah I know who and then you keep reading and are like wait a second maybe it’s not them, and then another angle comes in. I swear the book keeps you laughing and on your toes.

I can’t wait to find out what Mia and her besties get up to next! I highly recommend this one.

Top Notch by Stephanie Rowe is the second book in the Mia Murphy Mystery series. Mia Murphy survived being a FBI informant on her drug lord husband. Just barely. Drug lords can hire assassins, but MIA has FBI protection. After testifying at her ex's trial Mia moved to Bass Derby, Maine and bought a rundown marina. In this book Mia and her new friends need to solve a murder or Hattie, one of Mia's new friends, will go to prison as Hattie is the prime suspect.

This storyline is fast-paced with lots of action and plenty of margaritas. I love the characters, especially Hattie. She is a hoot! I like how Mia's cat, King Tut, is incorporated into the story. My hero! I especially enjoyed the humor in the story and I look forward to the next book in the series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Mia is supposed to be hiding from assassins. Instead she is equipped with her unusual choice of weapons and once again, along with Hattie and Lucy investigating another murder and other strange happenings in the place she now calls home. She's also intent on holding a fundraiser at her marina despite rumors about her potential involvement in criminal activity. Many of the town residents are on team Mia including a group of sexy seniors, a FBI agent as well as a Ex FBI agent, now police officer when they aren't scolding her for getting involved in another murder. Laughed out loud multiple times and was glued to my kindle throughout this very riveting read. Received a free copy and am voluntarily posting an honest review.

Stephanie Plum fans will love this book. I like the characters, Mia, Lucy, and Hattie, and I love her cat, King Tut. This is the second in the series, so the other characters are becoming more realized, such as Devlin and Griselda. Mia is great, though I hope she stops worrying about bad/old Mia versus good/new Mia and gets on with figuring things out. The plot was good and intricate enough to hide the killer until near the end. But the timeline of this and the previous book is too quick. The actions in both books occurred during one week! I hope the author stretches things out and lets Mia settle into Bass Derby before the next book. I'm not looking for any realistic plot in this book. Just slow down the timeframe. Still, I'll definitely read the next.

OMG… the author has done it again! I absolutely love Mia and the crew she calls her best friends. I want to be Mia’s friend lol. It seems trouble is always near and this book pretty much picks up after the first one. Mia and crew find another dead body and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

The book had me giggling all the way through. I couldn’t put it down. It was like crack lol. I kept telling myself “just one more chapter” and before I knew it, I was at the end. What a ride.

I hope Stephanie continues with this series because I said it in book one and I’ll say it again, Mia is my new favorite character and I can’t get enough.

Another who done it.

Mia, Lucy and Hattie and we can't forget the killer cat King Tut manage to find themselves thrown into another murder mystery but this one puts Hattie in jail. There were so many twists and turns and surprises in this story. Again I was so wrong with the who done it. LOL. Lots of surprises but my favorite was Hawk and Devlin. Both these guys want to date Mia (even though Hawk won't admit it). She does agree to meet Devlin for dinner but unfortunately we don't get to see it in this book. I'm hoping something will be mentioned in Gone Rogue. Can't wait to dive in. I'm still battling who I want to see Mia end up with.
