Everything About You
It was your smile.
Your laugh.
The color of your eyes.
The way you looked at me when no one else was looking.
The way you held me.
The way you kissed me.
It was everything about you I loved.
The flattening of that smile.
The silence of your laughter.
The loss of your lips.
The distance you created.
The way you left.
The way you destroyed it all.
The way you destroyed me.
Destroyed us.
It was everything about you I hated.
Everything about you.
I wanted.
Needed.
Hoped for.
And that day you not only broke my heart.
You f*cking crushed it.
Note: Everything About you is a standalone gay (M/M) second chance romance. As always, this book does not have cheating or a cliffhanger and an HEA is guaranteed.

Looking at other reviews it seems I'm in the minority here, but this book didn't sit well with me. Other than a few light moments sprinkled in here and there, the overall feel of the book was really morose. It's like we were only getting to see the worst of times while the good times got glossed over or omitted completely. I could probably count the amount of times Ronan actually smiled on one hand, which is ironic since the cover makes him look like a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. It was just such a bummer.
Since it was a second chance romance, the author used intermittent flash backs to tell the story of Ronan and Tate's first chance. I cannot express how annoying this was for me. It made the present day narrative come to a stuttering halt every time the past was referenced and, honestly, their past wasn't interesting enough to be worth the amount of space it took up in this book, which was a lot.
Spoilers Ahead!
There was a TW for cheating in this book, but it was said to have taken place in the past. What it didn't mention was that we'd be spending a ton of time in that past and that the cheating was habitual. Seriously, Tate sucked. He was "exploring his sexuality" with Ronan while still in a relationship with Dahlia and she had no idea. It was never specifically stated that he was still having sex with Dahlia, but it was heavily implied that he was. It's one thing to question your sexuality and be confused, but it's something else entirely when you're lying to one person while stringing another along behind closed doors. The worst part was that it took an ultimatum from Ronan to make him finally choose. After A MONTH! And that wasn't the end of Tate's cheating ways, which made him an impossible character for me to root for.
Aside from not caring for the characters, I didn't feel any connection to the second chance story at all. After 12 years, Ronan and Tate found themselves living in the same building. Tate decided he wanted Ronan back. Ronan didn't trust him and tried to stay away from him (though not very hard). Ronan did some weird power play shit through Grindr that I didn't totally understand the point of. I guess it was some hyper masculine way of taking back control, I don't know. Then Ronan had the actual thought that Tate had done "anything and everything" to prove himself and win Ronan back, but I never actually saw Tate do anything other than bottom for him (something he had been previously unwilling to do) and apologize a few times. Then there was a 2 month time jump that swallowed up every detail of them working things out, followed by a 6 month time jump where I could actually visualize the author sitting at their computer saying, "nah, I'm not feeling it today". I just...no. None of it worked for me. So much took place off the page, leaving the reader to hear about it after the fact and through an expository inner monologue that was soooooo boring. Show me, pleeeeeaaaase!
Also, there were no side characters. Tate's kids showed up twice. Ronan talked to someone on the phone once. Dahlia showed up to be a bitch a couple of times. I think there was a mom in the epilogue, but I can't remember who she belonged to. Maybe Ronan. Oh, and a teacher.
Like I said, this might be a case of me vs the book. There are a lot of 5 star reviews so maybe this book just hit some triggers I wasn't aware I had. You can't win them all.

I held him still and thrust harder, faster, all the way to the back of his throat. Not caring if I bruised him there. Not caring if he was choking on my cock. I punished him. For back then. For now. For the time in between. Pretending his mouth was his ass, I railed him until his face turned red.
i think this is the author's first mm romance... and it was a lot. i will definitely come back for more. as for this one, it wasn't simply the banger that i hoped it would be but i got invested so i stayed. my biggest issue honestly was the alternating timelines, namely the past and the present. it was exhausting i finally realized. i can't get invested with the present because i don't know their drama so all those heated words and encounters felt empty to me. shockingly, i cant get invested with their past as well because in the present i know they were already fucked and just trying to rekindle. 3 stars for this gorgeous cover, the present ronan, and those filthy hate sex. the author hinted a sneak peak for a new romance in the end and i obviously didn't read it but i'm crossing my fingers for that one.

This story was not what I expected it to be when I saw the cover and read the blurb. I expected this to be a light feel-good read, maybe even a little funny. But it wasn’t. And I fucking loved every second of it, obviously. It pulled a lot at my heart strings and made my heart race more than a few times.
********
It all started out so sweet with Ronan being totally enamored with Tate at first sight.
But it all was leading to immense heartbreak. And boy did I ever see someone in a romance novel cling to the anger and loss that heartbreak cost like Ronan did - which was totally understandable considering the mistakes Tate made to cause this heartbreak when he admitted his mistakes and left Ronan behind from one minute to the next.
Tate had to fight his hardest because the forgiveness he craved from Ronan since he left him twelve years ago was not easily given.
And even though Tate was responsible for all the heartbreak I was rooting for him. He was suffering a great deal as well through all of it and I wanted to see him succeeding real bad.
*********
I was very much emotionally invested in this book. The writing was intense and pulled me in from the first page. It was very hard to put it down.
Like in many other second-chance romances we follow two strings of the story. The Now and Then. I was always a little disappointed when one string was interrupted from the other. I just couldn’t decide which storyline I wanted to continue with most - their first falling in love or the fight for a second chance.
What I loved about that book was that there was no side story or other occurrences that sidetracked from Ronan and Tate’s romance. It was solely about them.
I also liked the caption to both the first and the last chapter.
Prologue: Where it ended
Epilogue: Where it started
And oh boy that epilogue… it had me grinning like a loon. I loved it!
Ah friends, I am such a sucker for the second-chance and troubled-relationships tropes. They always give me all the intense feels ♡♡♡
If I am not mistaken this is the author’s first MM and hell did she do a fantastic job with this book. I really hope there will be more.

Minor spoiler and warning : If you are a romance reader who cannot stomach cheating (in past events) in your books this one might be not for you then.

He. Was. Absolutely. Beautiful.
I couldn’t keep my eyes from my future boyfriend—maybe I’d go so far as future husband even—…
♡
Could I be so lucky that my future husband actually liked men, too?
…holy shit…
…I needed to head to the computer lab and start printing our wedding invitations. I hoped Tate wouldn’t mind.
♡
…even if my heart had been slightly cracked by finding out my former fiancé had a girlfriend.

My assumption was he was fighting an internal battle. He hated that he loved me and would rather love to hate me.

What a shit show this book was. No, I won't be spoilering anything out. I'm going on a rant so read at your own risk/amusement.
First off there needed to be a warning about infant/child loss. No, it wasn't shown on page but since it played a part in the story there should have been something in the blurb so people know. Then we have the part where there is "no cheating" mentioned in the blurb. There absolutely is. Tate cheats on Dahlia with Ronan. Until Ronan says he's putting a stop to whatever he and Tate had going on. Then Tate cheats on Ronan with Dahlia and keeps it from him until Dahlia is pregnant and he decides to marry her. And then he continues to cheat on Dahlia throughout their marriage with random Grindr hookups. Tate sucks. He wound up in a shitty situation because he knowingly made shitty life choices.
This book could have been so good. Swear this was right up my alley despite the mixed reviews I've seen. I love an angsty hard fought love story. This was a hot mess. There's bouncing back and forth between the past and present for most of the book. Which is fine when executed properly. However in past portions there would be references to the present. And a lot of times the present chapters were recaps or expansions of the past.
I didn't really get the attraction/connection between the two MCs a lot of the times either. In the beginning of the book when Ronan was reliving the past he'd talk about how hot Tate is, and how often he masturbated to thoughts of his future husband. Which is crass but given Roe was 19ish during those chapters I cringed and moved on. I've been around enough 18-20 year old males to know that that wasn't too far of a stretch to how the majority of them actually think.
Then we have the Dahlia issue. I'm so sick of women being portrayed as manipulative, horrible people in novels. I get that there needs to be a villain of some kind. And I also totally understand that sometimes that it needs to be a woman. It just really seems like an easy out to make the current girlfriend/wife/partner the bad guy. In this case Dahlia and her parents snag an invite to Tate's family's home for New Year's. Tate gets wasted and Dahlia takes advantage. They sleep together. Tate doesn't tell Roe until Dahlia and her parents show up for dinner the night before Tate's graduation. There she lets everyone know she's pregnant and they leave the dinner engaged.
Oh but I got ahead of myself because I'm angry. Before the disaster dinner Tate and Roe had lived together for two years. Two years in which no one knew they were together because Tate was too afraid of coming out. So yeah don't rush out of the closet or anything. That just really didn't sit right with me.
AND THEN! Tate finally leaves Dahlia. He moves into the building Ronan owns. He decides he needs Ronan to forgive him because they had some kind of epic love (🙄). Then he tells Ronan he'll do anything and everything to get him back and get him to trust him again. But when Ronan uses him as a sex toy Tate gets mad?
Back to the time jump thing because I forgot and I really cannot be bothered to go back up and put this in. After Tate and Ronan sleep together for the first time in the present. The next chapter is a two month time jump. A chapter after that is a six month jump. Which isn't a huge problem necessarily but I'd already been fed up with this book. At this point literally everything was on my damn nerves.
All in all this is one of the worst books I've ever read. I wish I could forget it. And I really wish someone else could use this beautiful cover and write an actual epic love story with it.

This book was on its way to being perfect for me, but it lost points from me in the final parts. All the promised angst was there, so that gets two big thumbs up, but the "second chance romance" part felt flat in the rushed final 20 percent or so of the story, including a disappointing 2-month time jump at a critical part of the relationship.
The story alternates between past and present. Ronan is a delight as a college freshman, crushing on Tate, a junior in one of his classes. The two become friends and then more. The problem is Tate has always identified as straight and has a steady girlfriend. They eventually break up, but this is where all the drama and heartbreak emanate from. While at first it is understandable that Tate is working things out, what he eventually does is awful and Ronan suffers for it. Tate's life turns out not so great, but he brought it on himself. Twelve years later he runs into Ronan and is determined to make things right and hopefully get him back. Ronan still carries the grief and heartache Tate caused and wants no part of it, but maybe a little payback. There is very little left of the delightful college freshman in the sad, but driven man he is now. This was the part I loved. Ronan didn't just run back into his arms. Ronan let Tate know just what a crappy person he was, but there are still those feelings that Tate was the only one for him. This takes a good 80% or so of the story.
Where the story lost points from me is that there was a very sudden turnaround, almost like Ronan just one day decides to give in, fully forgive and commit back to Tate, and then there is a 2 month time jump. There is no showing us them rebuilding the relationship, dating, Ronan meeting the kids. Just a time jump, and then another, and then another. I went through the angst, I want the rebuild and the falling back in love, and that was totally skimmed over.
So now I'm forced to do math. 5 stars for the first part of the book, 3ish stars for the last so maybe a 3.5 rounded up to 4??
PS: The cover art is pretty but deceiving. This story is not light and we never really see adult Ronan that happy (maybe a brief glimpse in the final chapters).

"The memories you wanted to hold onto the tightest tended to fade away the quickest. The memories you wanted to forget tended to haunt you forever."
This is my first book by Jeanne St. James so I didn't really know what to expect going in. I have to say it was the blurb that really grabbed me. (The hot AF tattooed man on the cover also helped.) I could already feel the angst and I was sooo ready. What I got was a powerful love between two men, so powerful, that even when one of those men betrayed the other in the most devastating way possible, the love was never lost. It may have been buried beneath mounds of guilt and self hate, or behind solid steel walls, but it was still there. It was still there waiting for a single spark of hope to light it back up even brighter than before.
"I had him for almost 2 years. I dreamed about him for twelve more."
The book is told in dual POV both in the present and flashbacks from the past. That was one of the things I loved about this book. It told the story of their present, while slowly revealing the events of the past that led them to where they were today. Discovering love and then finding it again 12 years later simultaneously. It wasn't an easy story and I had a really hard time liking Tate after finding out what he'd done. Yes it seemed he also suffered after that fateful day that ruined them, but Ronan was right in not having too much sympathy for him over it.
"Don't forget it was a life you chose, Tate. You have no one to blame but yourself."
And blame himself Tate did. For 12 long years he lived a miserable life until one day he couldn't take it anymore. He purged his sins and decided to start again. He moved back to the city he loved, the city where he fell in love. What he didn't do was expect to move into the same building as the man he had fallen in love with. Ronan sure hadn't expected to run into the man who had shredded his heart in the lobby of his home. Once again they were in each other's orbit and neither had the strength to walk away from this second chance. The road to forgiveness was certainly a bumpy, steam filled ride. But in the end, it was worth it. It was worth everything.

I never warmed up to Tate in this book. I'm sorry, he didn't ever redeem himself in my eyes.
Maybe if he handled things another way after the epic disaster in Uni
I would have had better feelings towards him.... You know what?
No.. no even days after finishing this, I can't even say THAT.
He was a massive prick. Sorry.
The way he treated Ronan.. the disrespect he had for both Ronan and
his current girlfriend because he was "exploring" his sexuality just
doesn't cut it for me.
And you know what? Even after he begs for forgiveness he still at times
give off the vibe that you still can't trust him. He can still at any point
in time turn around and pick the "moral high ground" of the Tate
empire. Sorry to all those who hurt in the aftermath.
No I didn't enjoy this book at all. I felt so so sorry for Ronan because
to me Tate is a BAD addiction he never got over and it will kill him
in the end. Because that's what bad addictions do.
Ronan did good for himself but he should have walked away here.
My personal opinion.
Tate is a self-serving cheating ass. He just kept at it. Years and years
and then have the nerve to blame it on his incredible sense of
loyalty and doing the right thing? Oh no you don't!
I'm still mad. Just thinking about it.

in time turn around and pick the "moral high ground" of the Tate

3⭐️ This second-chance romance really had potential. It was super angsty and addictive. It was difficult to put down because there was this mystery looming of why and how these two broke each other and how they were going to come back from it all.
But, unfortunately, there were things that held it back from being a hit for me. I wasn’t a fan of either MC. Neither of them were likable. Also, I felt the setup of story, jumping back and forth in time, just didn’t work.

Everything About You is a true love story. The past and present merge in this fantastic second chance story. Everything About you mesmerized me, hooked me, sucked me in and didn’t let go. This was an outstanding second chance love story. We are given Tate and Ronan’s story in past and present installments with both POV’s. At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d like the dual POV’s within the past and present, but I quickly realized that it was much needed to tell their story. They start as friends to lovers that falls apart, I felt both their pain, anger and frustration. The angst in the story was overwhelming at times as they had a soul deep connection that you could feel. The writing was phenomenal, and the pacing was excellent. Ronan and Tate are deeply flawed, complicated and complex. The character building was well done. This is one that I’ll definitely reread numerous times.

2.5 star rounded up
I first started this book and was immediately drawn in by the happy and exuberant Ronan. He was so sweet talking to himself about how he was going to get to know Tate, the boy he saw in class who would be his future husband. I was also interested in the now, years later after their relationship was destroyed and roe sees Tate for the first time and freaks out. He is a broken man and I just felt so much for him. However as the story progressed the sweet things from their past were glazed over and the book focuses a lot on the negative. I don’t feel like we ever got a chance to fall in love along with them. And I also expected Tate to do some major groveling for what he did and to win back Ronans trust. He didn’t. Honestly I didn’t even get that upset about the cheating since I wasn’t invested enough in them to freak out. The author would have been better served telling this in two stages rather than flipping back and forth. It made the book very disjointed and irritating.

I really wanted to love this book. It started out fantastic to me and I really loved Ronan’s character. The writing was good, the storyline itself was a good concept. I had a feeling it would be one I couldn’t put down. I was right with that but it was because I was chasing something that I never felt we got! I was looking for the grovelling of the century from Tate and I never got it. I had a very hard time with Tate’s character. We never jived and I feel like Ronan deserved so much better. I’ve talked to one person who absolutely loved this book so it could absolutely be just me. If you’re not too picky about getting an incredible apology then I would say might as well try it! Might just be for you!

Loved present Ronan and hate sex was delicious 🔥 Didn't care about Tate - he wasn't likable at all.
Constant switching between timelines was distracting. I would prefer less of the past and more relationships development in the present.
And groveling should be more than just sexual submission no matter how hot it was.
Runded up since I still mostly enjoyed it and will definitely read more from this author

3.75 , rounded up.
A new to me author.
I liked this book in large part , however would have liked the second chance part to have had more focus than what it did. The book was told in past and present tense but even the present had flashbacks in them, meaning that we only ended up with about 20-30 of “now” chapters that actually focused on the now.

I thought going in this would be epic. I loved Ronans’s humor when he first eyes/meets Tate. That humor quickly vanished and honestly, there’s not another feel good moment until maybe epilogue. Other reviewers have said it but my take:
Too much time in the past without really showing us anything other than some first times. We are told Ronan and Tate have a 2 year relationship in college. Tate at first has a girlfriend so it’s “exploration” with Ronan until Ronan puts his foot down and Tate breaks up with girlfriend. Then Tate breaks up with Ronan to reunite with girlfriend. Sure it’s devastating and heartbreaking but it’s college age.
The Now 12 years later…they find themselves living in same building… after a few arbitrary run-ins… Ronan takes it to power-play icky land to punish Tate.
Tate has words of love and submits to Ronan’s power plays so Ronan agrees to try again. This is where we should see a rebuilding of their relationship, right? Redemption? Nada.
So in this trying again stage we see nothing… no “us” and are just told they rail each other. Not sure that’s a full relationship. So many missed opportunities to show a get to know you again date, a shared meal, reminiscing on a good time, quiet smiles, a walk down by the River while linking pinkies, Ronan meeting the children, each being a plus one for the other with a work event… anything that showed progression and connection.
So in saying that, I wasn’t feeling it. In my Nope pile.

Stayed up all night reading this. I want so badly to give this 5 stars. It has everything I've been missing from contemporary romance lately:
All the angst.
Second chance romance.
Mental health issues.
Cheating (in the past)
Pining.
I hate that I still love you vibe.
Groveling. All the groveling.
An almost perfect blending of the past and present.
I devoured every. damn. word.
And then....we get to 80% in. The mental health issues are just mentioned in passing and should have gotten more attention. Ronan is just starting to let his walls down. And we get a two month time jump?! What is that?! I desperately wanted to see the new relationship grow and change. I wanted to see them get to know each other again.
Just settling in to this small, but significant time jump, and we get another. SIX months in. One chapter of that and we're in the epilogues.
We missed their first real date.
We missed Ronan's first "I love you".
We missed critical mental health conversations. I mean, they both ended up with semicolon tattoos, but the issues were just mentioned in passing?
We miss Tate introducing Ronan to his kids. I was so interested to see that dynamic.
We get so much of the hurt and so very little of the good.
This book...these characters. They deserved more. It could have been another 100-150 pages and I would have begged for more.
You just....can't go from where they started to wrapping everything up in a neat little bow. For that deeply unsatisfying last 20%, I have to give this a 4.5. And, man. That sucks. It was so close to being perfect.

2.75 ⭐️
The double, wait no, triple cheating trope overshadows the second chance trope and it bothered me so much I couldn’t stop freaking think.
I didn’t get the feels in both POVs. Tate is just a stupid walking ick. I just want to seal his mouth shut every time. I hate him. And Ronan is just too easy. Undying love for Tate you’d say, but goddamn it, he’s been through hell!
The grovelling was bad, not enough to convince me how much Tate has “changed” from everything he did in the past. The second chance trope was a little too easy like Ronan himself, and it didn’t make any sense. After everything that happened…….WHY
I was also bothered by those elevator scene. Them being inside elevator a lot. Yes, elevators annoy me apparently :/
The love development was amazing when they were younger, but after their love story went downhill, Ronan gave Tate the “second chance” and boom! sex. Sex, sex and sex again. How does his dick help in convincing he won’t be so stupid again, Ronan?
Everything feels one sided afterwards. How Ronan still tries so hard like he was the one that had to reclaim Tate. He bottom for him again, let him sleep together, he tries to get Tate to communicate again and even HE was the one proposed to Tate. 🤦🏻♀️ Yes, that’s a big deal. To me.
With all of the negativity plot focused inside this book, it felt so numb to read the happy and giddy parts. And I am so disappointed.
And god, WHY does the blurb described as no cheating? *eyeroll*

Why did I put myself through this again?! This author is not for me. The book has only one female character aaaand she's awful. And Tate is cheating on her for years. Aaaand cheating on Roe too.
We are inundated with materialistic minutae but the emotional and intimate parts are skipped over and mentioned briefly. The forgiveness is given why? Because Tate finally bottomed?! Oh, wow, way to go! They have not been together for 12 years, but just pick up where they left off, without having a real conversation about it?! It does not make sense. The whole book has the feeling of "give me your ass and I will give you a new Mac book". I don't know, it's awful.

Very slow paced and lots of flashing back. It was actually an ok book until we get to the reason they broke up. How Ronan could ever forgive Tate blows my mind. The fact that Tate even thinks for one second that he will be forgiven by Ronan is ridiculous. The cheating wasn't as big of a deal breaker for me as the lying. The lying by omission is still lying. He cheats over Xmas break and thinks he'll never have to tell Ronan? Yeah that's a great foundation to build your life on. Then says he didn't want it, he was drunk and she took advantage. Well then that's even MORE of a reason to tell Ronan so he's not blindsided by the repercussions of Tate's actions. But no. That doesn't happen. There would have been no coming back from that kind of betrayal.
Then the 'omission' that Tate is going to Harrisburg and spending the weekend, but didn't even mention it. Didn't mention he was leaving Thursday instead of Friday. This guy doesn't understand the concept of relationships. No he shouldn't ask permission, but common courtesy of hey this is what I'm up to; these are my plans this weekend, should have been talked about.
Ronan should have thanked his lucky stars in college when it ended with all those red flags but he didn't. Tate is no kind of man to spend forever with.

This is not your everyday second chance romance!! This is heartache and agony and gut wrenching decisions and OMG all I want to say is just go read it, NOW.
Tate and Ronan’s story goes between the past, when they were in college together, to the present - 12 years later. They haven’t seen or heard from each other since they were so heartbreakingly ripped apart and to say they are both hurt and devastated is an understatement!
I’m not sure what I can say without giving spoilers 🤔 but I will say they are not you’re everyday soulmates, whilst what they had at the start was pure, it was gnarled into an unhealthy obsession and an inability on Tate’s part to accept his sexuality. Very poor decisions were made and now facing each other 12 years later is the hardest god damn thing.
My heart broke for both of them, I was screaming at them and sobbing wondering if they could come back from the hurt.. it just all seemed impossible!! They do get their HEA but it’s hard fought 😭
Just drop whatever you’re reading and go and get your heart broken by this…

Piaciuto? Ni.

This book is full of life at its most realistic and a big love that transcends big hurts. Ronan and Tate met in a shared class in college when Ronan was an incoming freshman and Tate was two years ahead of him. The arc of their relationship was never clearcut. They started out as best friends, although Ronan was an out gay man and Tate had a girlfriend and was initially unaware of his own attraction to Ronan. There is a lot of cheating throughout the book, but off the pages. It more a reflection of the imperfections of the real world, the mistakes people make when they don't understand themselves or others, and those around them who get caught as collateral damage. The book is also a well-written journey of healing, forgiveness, and mature lifelong love.

Consigliato 💖💖💖💖

The flashbacks took up too much space and could have been condensed into 3 chapters at the beginning. Of course the one female character is a money hungry bitch. I didn’t enjoy Tate cheating on Dahlia to explore his sexuality but I had to give up when the flashback (after 70% mind you) let us know about Tate cheating on Ronan after their 2 year relationship. Then Tate marries Dahlia and continues to cheat on her their whole marriage. This pretty much ruined the rest of the book for me. Maybe if I had found this out earlier in the story and Tate does an amazing job groveling and earning back Ronans love, I could have been more accepting, but probably not.
