The second volume of the The Bakers' Patio Series, Prince Antrew is taking the reins for the first time of training the Flyer Ants during the annual Flight School. Flight School prepares the Flyers for the rigors of the obstacle course ... which if they pass, they become members of the elite Queen's Flyer Corps. Is Prince Antrew up to the task?
After spending 30 years as an IT Consultant, Kinscherf decided to take the story telling he uses to amuse his grandchildren and transform into a couple of children's book series.
Don’t you just love it when good authors keep writing! In his second in the Baker’s Patio series, Kinscherf gives us the story of how the flyer ants get their Corps Goggles and become members of the Queen’s Flying Corps. As fun as the story is about the obstacle course and training each flyer ant has to do, the meat of the story is the lesson that leaders need to lead with kindness, encouragement, and support.
Once again illustrator Brogaard provides the reader with wonderfully creative and colorful pictures that highlight the story. The drawings certainly make you want to comfort a shaking Amy ant and a hurt Abel ant.
I can’t say enough about these books! Between the enjoyable prose and the delightful illustrations you just can not go wrong. It’s the perfect read-aloud story, especially for encouraging curiosity about nature.
Flight School A Papa Tell Me a Book By Ron Kinscherf
I was happy to find Flight School as I had already read The Baker’s Patio. The magic I found in Baker’s Patio disappointed neither my children nor me. I found the story a little simplified from its predecessor, but most importantly, the children loved it, asking with bubbly excitement if there was another book. I told them we would keep our eyes out for it for surely there would be. The story captivated them, talking to them at the precise level for their entertainment.
Prince Antrew is the new trainer for the Flyer Corps in the ant colony. The flyers train by lifting apple cores and taking “dippity-do” class. Prince Antrew leads the training with a heavy fist, and the flyer ants are soon overwhelmed and scared. When Prince Antrew complains to his mother, Queen Antasia, she calmly reminds him of his early flyer days and how students need kindness and support to succeed. This well-known theme gets a new twist in Flight School, and the engaging story is enlivened by colorful and fun illustrations.
With beautifully and imaginative illustrations, this second installment of The Baker’s Patio is the perfect books for early to middle grade readers. I absolutely love the facial expressions for Prince Andrew and the role his mother, the Queen, takes in reminding him what good coaching looks like. This story, I’m sure, will create wonderful opportunities for discussing the virtues of patience and temperance.
I really love Ron Kinscherf's children's books. Of course, the illustration is always so cute! The story of Flight School is very imaginative and something every parent and child needs to be aware of, when it comes to learning, as the ants learned in flight school. The overall message you'll take away from the story is patience and the proper teaching is what makes children excel, as well as the ants in the story and with that sets them up for success. You'll love this book !!! 👏
This wonderful series can be read in any order. This series makes me want to conduct a storytime! The illustrations are perfectly tuned with the words to give the young reader so much to discover and enjoy. A very fun experience for both the reader and listener! A plus for any library or home collection. There are even subtle messages tucked in throughout.
In his second installment of the Baker's Patio series Ron Kinscherf takes us deeper into the world of ants, where we join the training of flyer ants. It's a touching story about patience and true leadership.
Ron Kinscherf does it again with Flight School! He creates personalities in ants that both entertain and educate. Good lessons for littles and bugs, I mean bigs! Bobbe White
