Sydney Whitmore, a forensic psychologist working for the FBI, moves to Shipwreck Island and renews her relationship with Ezra Reinhold, a reclusive billionaire who enjoys poking around in cold cases and has the means to hire the best people to find the answers no one else has been able to.
In book 6 in the series, Syd is asked by the FBI to escort the child of a key witness in a murder trial to a safe house after the US Marshall who'd been watching the child was found dead and the child was found hiding alone in a nearby emergency shelter. The Marshall who'd been watching the child managed to get off a message before he died letting the FBI know that there was a mole within the organization who'd given up their position, so Syd and the child set off on a cross country journey where no one can be trusted and nowhere really feels safe.
Meanwhile it's Christmas on Shipwreck Island and the entire family is involved in seasonal events and activities.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Hide and Seek is the sixth book in Kathi Daley’s Resort at Castaway Bay series. The West Coast setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. The intriguing mystery is well-plotted and complex, with no shortage of twists and red herrings to keep the reader engaged and guessing. Ms. Daley’s descriptive writing makes readers feel like they are right amid the activities and sharing the characters’ tragedies and joys. Christy Turner provides a Christmas-themed lifestyle blog and a tempting cookie recipe. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozies.
After suffering the consequences of an error in judgment in her job as an FBI forensic psychologist, Sydney Whitmore returned to Shipwreck Island for an extended vacation but moved home permanently. Sidney works part-time for Colin Black of the FBI and Ezra Reinhold, a reclusive billionaire who has put together a top-of-the-line team of experts who enjoy solving cold cases. Aunt Charlie raised Sydney and her sisters, Emily and Rory, when their parents were killed in an automobile accident. Emily, her two young daughters, and Rory live at Jack’s Hideaway with Aunt Charley and Charley’s father-in-law, Hank Hamilton. Besides helping at the resort, Emily writes a lifestyle blog and volunteers for community events. Rory’s a veterinary technician who often brings animals in need of extra attention home with her. Logan Alexander, who grew up at the resort, returned to the island to care for his father, Liam, and is taking over Henry Collins’ medical practice.
Even though it’s the Christmas season and Syd wants to spend time with her family and friends and attend events and activities taking place both in town and at her family’s resort, she doesn’t hesitate to travel to Colorado to help Agent Sally Fox escort a nine-year-old girl, Mila, to a third safe house. Mila’s mother witnessed the murder of a high-profile businessman, and they were both placed in the United States Federal Witness Protection Program and secured in separate locations. When Syd arrives at Mila’s current safe house, she immediately senses trouble and escapes with Mila after a compromised US Marshals agent murders Agent Fox. Uncertain who can be trusted, but knowing she can’t protect Mila without help, Syd enlists the help of Erza and his team.
This one was exciting and intricate as the story unfolded. The characters have developed and grown over the progression of the series and I could easily see myself spending time with all of Syd's family. It was fun reading more about Ezra and his team as they helped Syd with her case. I'm already looking forward to the next one in the series.
I love books by Kathi Daley. They are very interesting and unique and entertaining. It is difficult to put the book down until I finish it. Her plots are intricate and not easily discerned. I like that she has her characters cross over from one series to another. I can't wait for the next book to be published. Try her books, I think you'll love them.
Although I have enjoyed each of the books in this series, I feel that this one is a cut above. It grabs you from the first page and is more than just a cozy mystery. Syd’s boss asks her to help in protecting a child whose mother is a witness in a murder. But things go terribly wrong and Syd escapes with the little girl. She pulls in Ezra and the rest of the group to hide the child and get to the bottom of the murders and the cover-up.
A rescue mission gone very bad, good guys who were traitors, a little girl to keep safe right before Christmas in an edge of your seat mystery that keeps you off balance to the very end. I couldn't put it down.
Forensic psychologist, Sydney (Syd) Whitmore has moved back home to Shipwreck Island, but still does some work with the FBI. In this book, Syd is assigned to accompany a child in protective custody to a safe house. The young girl's mother is a key witness in a murder trial and the two are put in separate places. One of the US Marshalls with the girl has indicated that they have a mole in the agency which is why Syd is headed there. But things got bad quickly. Now Syd and the girl are on a journey where trusting the wrong person can get them killed. Can they make it to safety?
I've really enjoyed this series, and this book was no exception. This well-written book was absolutely riveting, and it gripped me from the beginning keeping me hooked. I read this in one sitting as it was not a book I could put down. The mystery is one that'll keep you on your toes and hooked throughout. I loved all the characters and the various relationships. I'm very eager for the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest reading in order. Yes, each book has its own mystery, but you get to know everyone so much better if you read the books in order.
The book starts right in the thick of action and I really enjoyed this portion. FBI agent Sydney Whitmore shows her skill and brains.
The second half of the book seemed like it had a completely different main character. Instead of remaining as a take-charge agent, Syd cedes all the strategy over tj Ezra’s team.
Admittedly, this is my first time reading any of these books, and it’s book 6, so I don’t know how the relationships developed, which is why I’m giving the author the benefit of the doubt and giving this a 3-star review and not a 2.
The first half makes the book worth reading. The second half needed more editing and attention to detail. Too many loose ends left untied.
After having read Summer house reunion, I was so glad to link the character s to the Castaway Island series. But the Hide and Seek Book brought a lot of mystery, suspense and situations where there was some crooked dealings, while still following the story of protecting a child. It also included family and resort Christmas celebration and just a touch of romance. My favorite author of several berries should be cloned so we can write each book faster!! (Not really but I hate waiting sometimes!)
I like this series as it has great characters and the character’s have a reason to be out solving a crime! There is always a mystery or two to follow and some heartwarming family moments. No graphic violence or language. A good book to get lost in. I hope they continue.
This series has a little more of a suspense feel to it than the usual cozy mystery feel. While it's very well written it still left me a little unnerved. I did enjoy it for the most part, it was a very exciting adventure, but I'm happy to be moving on to the next book on my list. I still love you, Kathi Daley, please, lighten up, lol😄
This captures you right from page one as Syd struggles to know who to trust while trying to keep a child safe from bad guys. Also Christmas is almost upon them and friends and family grow close. Thoroughly enjoyed this and can't wait to see what's next.
The latest from Shipwreck Island and Syd Whitmore. She's called in by her boss at the FBI to protect a young girl in protective custody.
A fast paced mystery which takes Syd back to Ezra and his team.
I really enjoy this series, a spin off from the Inn At Holiday Bay. If you like this series, try one of this talented authors other series, they're all very good.
The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
This one had me hooked in the beginning, I was so concerned for Mila and Syd. I was semi-disappointed when they were separated and the story went in a different direction but as always all turned out ok!
Love this authors books. Always interesting, thought provoking and heartwarming.
Syd is on another mission for her job. This time two coworkers have already been killed and a little girl and her mother are the intended targets. Spellbinding
The boom starts out strong, but the ending seems a little rushed and not as detailed as the beginning. Overall it was a good book, but the author needed to slow down a little to do justice to the storyline.
This was the best.story so far.in the.series. I loved the way it started and how the.suspense continued through out the.story. The.characters were equally good.
This was my favorite one so far in the series, I think maybe because it has ,at least for me a lot of heartfelt moments along with it being a mystery. The Christmas setting made it sound really good .
It grabbed me on page one and stayed up late reading. I love the way she will bring in characters from her other series. It gives an update on them instead of just dropping them off into eternity.
Interesting storyline, I didn't expect the total focus to be on protecting a little girl and her mother. But that's what Sydney does. I liked the mini update on Callie, Cass and Paisley from the Cat in the Attic series, what a great way to update.
Syd is called to escort a young girl to safety. Syd struggles to know who to trust. I protecting the girl they end up at Foxtail Lake under Cass Wylander’s protection for awhile. Christmas activities are under way back on Shipwreck Island.
The story started out a little intense, which is good, but it then flowed into a story where everything fell into order till the mystery was solved. All-in-all it was a pretty good story.
Syd reaches a farm house and rescues a girl just as kidnappers try to take her. They are on foot until they can find help. This book raced along at a quick pace until the end. You can't put it down.
Well at last! Didn't think it was ever going to happen. Logan and Syd, it took her long enough! Lol The only problem I had with this story was I was hoping that She would have seen Mila again...maybe in the next book!
