Most acts of violence are pretty random. But murdering someone and impaling their head on the railing outside the Royal Courts of Justice... that takes planning.
And when the pathologist finds a page from a book rammed down the dead man's throat, DI Charlie George thinks it's safe to assume that someone, somewhere, wants to send a message.
But people who have the resources to plan a murder like that also have the smarts not to get caught. So Charlie knows he has a problem.
Whoever the killer is, he doesn't think they've finished handing out their version of justice just yet. He just wishes he could summon the enthusiasm to stop them. Because sometimes people really do get what's coming to them.
And Charlie and his team are left wondering which side of the law is justice really on?

The fourth instalment in this detective series, a mix of police procedural and character realtionships amidst a serial murder case for the squad, much like the Roy Grace series by peter james, these are set in London and have interesting plots and some laugh out loud dialogue if you enjoy a cockney sense of humour, ive enjoyed this series and would recommend to any crime fan.
A beautifully written story, probably can't be bettered
Another violent and absorbing episode in the life of this very endearing character. A Twisting and turning storyline that keeps you reading. A proper ending, only hints of a loose end, with no definite forward to look for.
This is apparently the fourth book in a police procedural series set in London featuring Detective Inspector Charlie George. This is an exciting read as Charlie hunts down a killer intent on revenge. Many people die before the end and the author makes some comments on the British legal system. I liked Charlie and also enjoyed the grim humour in the dialogue. I will try and find the first three books in this series.
Just brilliant. When you get so familiar with the characters they are like part of your family. The story was fast paced, intriguing, so well written with some humour, even if the main story was gruesome. Really looking forward to what comes next in the series .
Brilliant read, I couldn’t put it down. Long time since I have got so engrossed in a book. First time I have read anything by this author but it certainly wouldn’t be the last. So many twists and turns in this story and the majority of loose ends tied up nicely. Strongly recommend.
Great read loved all the books Colin has written and now getting ready for my next one ... Come on you gooners !! Hope to have more Charlie George books soon
