How can she trust, when she doesn't remember?

In the seemingly perfect world of Paliav, the government enforces a strict way of living on its citizens. Before beginning a new stage in their lives, they are required to attend an appointment where their irrelevant memories are removed. This is supposed to make them live carefree, and adjust to changes well.

As sixteen-year-old Mara is plucked out of her daily routine, and brought to a removal centre, she prays for a miracle that will allow her to keep all her memories, especially those of her loved ones. But with no way to fight back, she forgets everyone she’d ever known.

Back to leading an ordinary life, Mara is confused and frightened when she finds a forbidden note from someone who reveals a secret: one that might threaten their very lives. With no memories of their shared past, Mara must decide whether or not she can trust this person.

Mara has to overcome her fear and doubt to fight for freedom and a happier life, without the looming threat of another removal. And she has to decide if she can trust her feelings, when she no longer knows how they came to be.

Very interesting idea of a strange new world after the old one was ravaged by wars. Relatable characters I really fell for (I am not quite sure yet how I feel about Flynn but loved the girls - my heart broke for them again and again).
Mean cliffhanger ending - but the next book comes out next month, so I am not mad but just impatiently waiting to read on!

I picked this up for pre-order having seen it talked about, the cover called out to me and the blurb left me intrigued to know more. Straight off the bat, I was hooked on Mara’s world. The thought of losing my memories at someone else’s demand was terrifying, and I adored the way the story pulls you in and leaves you wanting more. As the story progressed, as you got deeper into the twists and turns of the plot, you find yourself trying to work out more about how this dystopian world fits. I loved Mara, liked Emily and Flynn, and am glad I’ve picked up the second book to read ASAP. Very much recommended to all those who are fond of dystopian!

Fantastic!

The first book in a YA dystopian series, Removable Echo is a very impressive first novel by Anne Sophie. I discovered the author through her YouTube channel and really enjoyed this thoughtful and absorbing story.

This book had a very interesting premise and the first chapter hooked me in. Later, I really liked the introspection of the protagonist and the fact that we get to live in her mind.

A couple of things weren't revealed/discovered enough, for example her relationship with Emily. Another thing was, I wanted to see more of the history of the world building.I wanted to see why more people weren't rebelling and how this government got rid of other outliers. Because they're against gay relationships, which made me think they'd be against other minorities as well.

The tension rose towards the end but I didn't feel like there was a steady built up to it.

I read it in 2 days, which does mean that I enjoyed it and the book flowed well.

I didn‘t think it could get any better after Removable Echo, but I was proved wrong. I liked the different POVs which were added. This book made me go through so many emotions. And I absolutely loved it. I couldn‘t lay it down and kept on reading and reading and reading. I can‘t wait to get my hands on book three.

I need the next book already because I just have to find out what happens next. I can't believe I have to wait a whole month! Though I am glad it's not a longer wait. The concept is so intriguing I just cannot wait to see how the world gets expanded upon in the rest of the series.

YA isn't normaly my style, but I liked this one a lot, especially the last few chapters that caught my attention, and I'm excited to read book 2.

There are some novels where you're so immersed in the story that you don't realise how quickly you got through it. Removable Echo had that effect on me.
It had great world building, likeable characters (I need more of Cedric!!!) and a solid plot, with an oppressive government with a good layer of realism to it.
Can't wait to read the next book!
