This was an interesting read—I do feel like I was maybe dropped into the middle of an ongoing/established plot, but I could figure out what was going on soon enough and there’s so much action, strife, betrayal, etc. that I was hooked early in.
It packs all sorts of danger, trauma depicted in various forms, corruption, greed, and people at their absolute worst … and their best. Probably did a pretty good job of depicting some of what would indeed go on post an EMP, at least kept it very plausible.
Overall 4 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Audible: Well done, smooth, seamless production and a decent voice, though it was a bit robotic.
I really enjoyed this book. Tommy is forever coming up with schemes, but at least this one was for a better purpose. I was saddened by Elijah’s actions, but people do some pretty weird things in the name of self-preservation. Charlie, will have some serious inner wounds now. I don’t know if his relationship with Scout will ever be the same. Oh and Anson… I knew that guy was a snake! Still now further information about the weather, it’s barely even mentioned in this book. The only clue is that Wes has “good intel” that it’s the Russians. I need a resolution to this mystery!

I believe times similar to those in this book or in our near future. Jack Hunt's Series It's more than entertainment. It's a call to vigilance, Awareness and preparation. This book cost to the truth of how far our country Has Sled from it's core values. The series is well written and gripping. We need to cling to our faith in God and beware of the times around , As I believe Mr. hunt intended With he's excellent Written series.
After reading the first three and enjoying them but not thrilled with the third book; I didn't have many expectations going in. This book was good enough I read it in 2 sittings not wanting to put it down until I finished and found out the outcomes to several heroes trials against some nasty realistic evil. The kind that makes you disgusted and embarrassed to be human. Make sure you have some time when you start reading this one.
Jack Hunt throws you into the thick of things starting with page one. He has built the background s of each character to where you know them like you know your own family. Each battle that is fought is for pure survival of each individual. This is a page turner.
Jack Hunt writes the best apocalypse books that I have read. I've read many authors, but he is definitely my favorite . He really sees both sides of the equations. You will really think about things that can truly happened. Be prepared as much as possible.
The twists and turns in this series take it down a very dark road . The story line is hard hitting and definitely shows the worst of humanity. John and his family are finally together but they have faced some hardships and been up against some really dreadful people . Will they survive and find a safe place to live . I'm looking forward to the next book.
Page 202: “…fired over and over again until the only sound that could be heard was the click of an empty Glock.” Empty Glocks don’t click. The slide locks back. Revolvers click. Glocks are pistols. If you’re going to write about guns learn the difference.
If you like the realistic apocalyptic genre then you will enjoy Jack Hunt’s “After it Turns Dark” series. Hunt keeps things moving within the story in a way that draws you in and leaves you with wanting to know more. His stories and characters are real, everyday people who deal with real, everyday struggles. Great reading and looking forward to more!!
I am so glad to be reading a new series again from Jack Hunt. I love the characters and the premise. It does speak to all the dark aspects of human nature. I can't wait for the next book.
This was a good book series to read, a combination of hurricanes and emp. Lots of action and great character development. I have enjoyed all the Jack Hunt books so far. Thanks.
If you are preparing to read this book and have not read the previous books. STOP. Go back to Book 1. Important to read read from the beginning! Trust me you don't want to miss one page and each book builds to the next.
John Sheridan is a lot less prominent in this book and the role of the militia comes under scrutiny. I'm glad that the chief FEMA administrator is not a bad guy for a change. There is some uncomfortable brutality and a shocking betrayal.
After an EMP the world went backwards. Children who were beaten and scared survive with a few good adults. Militia emerges and is held back. People go on surviving. I would like to see more of this story.
One of the better apocalypse series. Good narrative and understanding of human emotions. Still open for another book to conclude or continue this series. I would read the next entry to this series without hesitation!
Just like the first two, a pager turner. I have read them and usually somewhere after 11:00 PM I'm near the final 3 or 4 chapters and was about to go to bed without seeing the ending. If you'll stop writing maybe I can get some sleep. Kidding, keep writing.
I must have liked the series, because I read all 4 books in 3 days, but I didn’t love it. Pretty gruesome and I really hate the human trafficking aspect, even though I know it is and will be a big part of life. So, like I said-mixed feelings.
The have kickass action but at least leave you with a glimmer of hope for our survival in a post apocalyptic world. I can't wait until book 5 comes out! Connie F.
This was a great story, made even greater by the well-developed characters. There were several places where there was quite a bit of suspense; I could hardly put the book down. I highly recommend this series! Jack Hunt is a great writer!
As the series continues the action speeds up. As John and his daughter visit a friend they are attacked. And Charlie experiences a betrayal which will cause issues far reaching.
I have the belief that the US could experience an EMP, possibly in the next 3-5 years. I also believe it could be dangerous and life changing... but this story enlightened even more so, to the dangers.
