Allow Evan Bond to tell you some dark tales that are certain to chill you to the bone, stories that will be burned into your memory...forever. This collection has everything from shocking two-to-three sentence horror stories to unnerving micro tales. Some grim flash fiction and some some extra-special demented short stories are sure to put a smile on your face and satisfy your appetite. I mean, let's face it, that is why you are here, isn't it? Charred Remains has something for every reader. You will certainly go away a different person after hearing them than you were before experiencing these disturbing campfire tales.
As an outdoor enthusiast and horror lover, Evan Bond enjoys writing stories where the two come together. Bond loves to write dark and fast paced thrillers. He lives in Florida with his wife and two sons.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time sitting around the campfire as Evan told me his ominous diabolical tales. Charred Remains is a stunning array of flash fiction and short stories that instill slivers of fear in your soul. Some are so shockingly evil that I felt terrible about being excited about how some of these stories go down (but I smiled nonetheless). Evan hits you from all angles, pin-balling you around many different horror sub-genres. It’s a diverse collection of tales, and the micro-stores are a great addition. I highly recommend this fun, shocking display of bloodletting. So come sit by the fire and let Evan put an evil grin on your face.
Charred Remains by Evan Bond is an assault of short, rapid-fire horror stories that barely give you time to recover from one before the next bout of nightmare fuel is unleashed. Truly chilling, theses stories are easy going down, but stick with you long after. This is a high recommendation for horror readers.
Evan Bond has crafted a excellent collection of horror stories in Charred Remains. Each story will keep you on the edge of your seat, making it difficult to put down. The artwork that accompanies the micro stories is also great. Such a great way to bring the stories to life.
Read Charred Remains. You will not be disappointed!
This was the perfect collection of horror stories for fall. The tone and pacing of it made think of this as the Scary Stories series but for adults. I really enjoyed the section of two sentence horror stories right in the middle of the book. It felt like a manic spiral that landed me into more scary short stories at the end.
I truly enjoyed reading the short stories in this book. I found myself relating to quiet a few of them. I loved how the book started off About the struggle that all writers/artists face, I loved ‘reflection’, also ‘cake’ was super relatable as well. Evan Bond does a great job as a writer painting the picture. You feel like you are right there! Can’t wait see more from this author 😊
Evan Bond's collection of short horror stories, Charred Remains, is fun and fast paced, and keeps you on your toes! It has three different sections: The Ashes, The Embers, and The Flames. It will quickly become apparent how the stories makes it into each section.
Some of the stories are so good, I wish they were made into at least a novella, if not a full-fledged novel, such as "A Night Out", "Lockdown", "Come Back to Me", "Watcher", and "The Tree Trunk".
Quite a few of them have a fun, surprising, and twisted ending, such as a favorite of mine, "Watching"!
Give Bond (definitely not James Bond....).a chance and grab this book up as quick as you can! You will not be sorry!
Do you have an irrational fear of public bathrooms? If you do, you may want to sit this one out. Because I now have new fears unlocked that I never knew I was capable of. But here we are. So, thanks, Evan. I’ll never pee in peace again. If I survive the monsters lurking in the toilet stall (which is not high or probable), I will tell you that this collection of short stories is a horror enthusiast's delight! It’s also great if you’re someone who’s just starting to dip a toe in the dark, ghoulish waters known as the horror genre. Should you read this to your seven-year-old nephew on a camping trip? Absolutely not. But could your goth grandma get down with this frightening flash fiction? Hell yeah. I’m highly food-motivated (like my cats), so I’ll end this by saying this collection was a buffet of spooky treats. On an adventure scale, I’ll salivate over the menu but I will NOT be ordering. My level of adventuring does not extend to near death experiences, haunted schools, or murderous trees. And fingers crossed my love won’t decide to dispose of me in the future 😆 Evan, I’m excited for whatever story you throw at me next!
Charred Remains by Evan Bond is a captivating collection of short stories that will delight fans of suspenseful, twisty, and sometimes dark fiction. Throughout the book, the author crafts striking imagery and delivers "oh wow!" moments that leave a lasting impression.
One of the standout aspects of this anthology is the variety in story length. The mix of longer and shorter pieces makes Charred Remains an engaging read that allows you to flip through and find the perfect story to suit your mood. Whether you have time for an immersive deep dive or a quick, thrilling escape, this book has something to offer.
I've been on a short fiction kick lately, and this one exceeded my expectations. Bond's writing moves swift as any blade or talon wielded by the monstrosities that populate this collection. Some stand outs for me were The Stall, The Eyes, Out of Room (always love a good, modern twist on ancient mythology), and The Surprise (nice twist to that one). I also enjoyed the microfiction section and the illustration. Based on this collection, I am looking forward to checking out some of the author's other other works.
One of the things I liked about this book is it's a series quick shorts that average 3 pages each, so when I read them when I'm killing some time or need to a buffer for when I'm reading more massive books.
Each story is short, sweet and full of macrame and is a must have for those who enjoy all things horror.
Charred Remains is one of the best short horror story collections I have ever read. The stories each have a different level of scare factor, which makes them fun to read. The variety of micro-fiction and flash fiction stories is the perfect read in any setting, especially around a campfire. Trust me. You will be looking over your shoulder.
