Dr Renate Steenkamp, a renowned ethicist, has been conscripted into Halcyon Entertainment's latest venture, an audacious mission from 22nd Century Earth to a distant planet. Hugo Bareilles, Halcyon's aggressive and enigmatic CEO, is hell-bent on using the mysterious project to change the face of entertainment forever - but at the risk of direst consequence. To avert disaster, Renate must secure a coveted lead role in the mission to the planet's surface.
And on that planet, Adya of Saburra, First of Her Name, the Last Subcreator of the realm of Asperia, she who wields the very power of the Gods, is faced with an altogether unusual challenge that will test her adherence to the Third Law. Little does she know it will lead to the collapse of an entire culture, bringing her world to the brink of destruction.
They are two women from vastly different worlds that are destined to collide, the fates of many in their hands...
This is not my usual read. But I absolutely loved it. This is science fiction/ fantasy erotic romance rolled into one. Jake manages to draw me in from the start until the very end. I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough. I was captivated with this story. Loved all the characters. The writing is incredible. Highly recommend and can not wait for the next book in this series.
Powerfully pleasing! Captivating! Unique! Jake Karter is a phenomenal storyteller. Excellent writing and a spectacular storyline. The cast of characters is vividly developed, highly passionate and lethal, and I'm invested in them: Adya, Renate, Conrad, and Vashti, just to name a few. Jake can certainly write spicey, sizzling, explosive love scenes that make you swoon and put you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend indulging in this thrilling, high-octane fantasy adventure.
Jake Karter is a wonderful storyteller!! This book is creative, unique, intelligent, suspenseful, erotic, and full of fantastic characters! This book kept me on the edge of my seat with love scenes that make you tingle in all the right places!! I highly recommend this book….now to wait for the rest of the story in Mistress of Alkuon
Not my normal trope/genre l would go for but Foundation’s Mistress was over all a good read! All the trope/genres erotic romance, science fiction/fantasy and some thriller was all in this story! Two worlds that will collide what will come of that?? I guess I will have to wait to see what will come in book2!
Jake Karter is in a league of his own with the delivery of this unique, captivating blend of science fantasy meets erotic romance – all topped off with delicious suspense which will keep you glued to your kindle. If I could award extra stars I most certainly would!!
The telling of two stories run in parallel: Renate as a renowned ethicist has her work cut out for her dealing with Hugo – a manipulative, narcissist hell bent on achieving his goals at any cost. I loved the portrayal of Renate as a strong, confident woman defending her beliefs in the face of such a blatant Machiavellian personality. Meanwhile planet side we meet Adya, a curious passionate character and the delightful Conrad – who is a both playful, yet calming presence wrapped up in a beautifully sexy package - I challenge you not to adopt him as your next favourite book boyfriend! Great articulation really brings the characters to life and allows the reader to feel very invested in the unfolding storyline.
In addition to being a fabulous read, this is also a most interesting thought experiment, where the philosophical question of gender equality is turned on its head, and as is a recurring theme in a JK novel, feminism is venerated.
Naturally there are mouth wateringly steamy sexy scenes a-plenty to ignite the imagination - in addition to witty banter between the characters. As a scientist I particularly enjoyed the science quips! Meticulous word choice and use of language makes for a highly engaging read – even if sci-fi is not your regular go-to trope, it simply doesn’t matter, I guarantee you will LOVE this read and be hanging out on the edge of your seat for the conclusion.
I was fortunate to receive an ARC copy, and this is my honest opinion.
Two different worlds—one, where women rule as the supreme being and dominate man in every way, a world where people are “made” unbiologically—the other, a world that we know, where man is superior and women have to fight to prove their ability. Two different stories told, but at some point they have to come together. This is a cast of two strong female characters, Renate and Adya, each taking the lead in her own individual world.
The richness of Karter’s characters is always one of his strengths in writing. This intricately plotted storyline takes unexpected turns and Karter handles his trademark scenes of romance with his usual tantalizing and arousing yet sinful descriptive words. The elegantly constructed novel is intelligent and profound. Karter is a master wordsmith; one whose ability to craft words to mean something is both remarkable and skillful. My hat is off to you Mr. Jake Karter. Good luck to you in all your future endeavours! I am anxious to learn more about how Adya and Renate shape themselves and their worlds.
First, lets talk about this cover..I absolutely LOVE this beautiful cover! 😍
This trope is not my usual go to..however, this book is definitely unique and not something I’ve ever read before. I’ve come to realize Jake Karter reads give you original material, strong women, and spice!
In Foundation’s Mistress, Book 1 of The Third Law duet, Jake Karter has brilliantly combined sci-fi, fantasy, suspense and romance in a sexy, erotically charged story I couldn’t put down. The world building is fascinating yet easy to follow, the characters are complex yet relatable, the storyline intriguing and suspenseful yet hot as hell. While sci-fi/fantasy isn’t a genre I normally read a lot of, Jake’s intelligent writing and amazing storytelling had me completely engrossed in Foundation’s Mistress from the first page to the last. It had me immediately preordering book 2, Mistress of Alkuon, which releases on June 30, 2022 and I can’t wait for the conclusion of this story.
Jake yet again blew me out of the water with this book. This was absolutely not a genre I was familiar with at all…that being said Jake in his typical fashion had me captivated to every single page.
If you’re a fan of Jakes previous works then you know! However if this is your first introduction into the world of JK, then buckle up I promise you you’ll very much enjoy the ride.
Jake is renowned for a great number of things - a sunny yet cheeky disposition (we can probably add witty in here as well), his downright delicious photo taking skills & his ability to engage his audience through not only his original storyline’s but also his (ahem) BIG vocabulary. - And use it he most certainly does. Proving once and for all he’s the consummate logophile.
Foundation’s Mistress is #Book1 in The Third Law duet and it is a most captivating mix of erotic sci-fantasy together with an edge of your seat Thriller/suspense. Having never dabbled into the Science fantasy genre before I was very interested to read Mr Karter’s portrayal of it.
Now I will take pause at this point and talk about exactly why the words (𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐇) have never been more fitting for someone - Jake Karter has a gift of taking his words and creating work of original nature and drawing his readers in early by cleverly articulating such engaging characters. He takes his readers on the complete journey through the pages….It’s his high depth of detail, his engaging storyline’s and his knack to add little snippets of himself into each of his books..
Foundation’s Mistress is about 2 woman Renate & Adya both from very very different worlds indeed. Both woman fierce in their own rights. Renata is definitely one strong woman and she has to be to hold her own against the aggressive Bareilles.
Adya too has to hold her own through challenges that will test her adherence to The Third Law. I was very much captivated by the gorgeous Conrad - I mean who wouldn’t want a moment with this beautiful man. He is destined to be a fan favourite amongst many and with absolutely good reason.
FM is a highly engaging read that has started my interest into the genre of Sci-fantasy thanks to Jake Karter. Highly Recommended read.
Let me preface this by saying this is not my typical trope (although I feel as if the Sci-fi/erotica/thriller might be one I haven’t seen much of). However, I am a huge fan of the author, and as such, he always gets a pass. Jake Karter has an extremely refined writing style. He is every intelligent reader’s dream.
Foundation’s Mistress opens up with a map – kind of a la G of T. His set up is precise and extremely detailed. This story is written telling two stories about two different women. Renate, the ethicist and Adya, the Last Subcreator. Both women are strong, powerful women. Both have power over men and both, coincidentally, have jealous people trying to undermine them. The character development throughout this story is incredible – watching the arc of both characters come into their own strength is probably one of the best parts of this novel. NOW… it does have a part 2, where I’ve no doubt our author will really bring everything together… after some twists and turns, I’ve no doubt.
All of Jake Karter’s novels have a common theme: WOMEN EMPOWERMENT. This story is all about how women are the superior (okay, I’m probably paraphrasing) sex. But what I do appreciate about Mr. Karter’s writing is his understanding and respect for women. He writes us so well. And the majority of the men in his stories worship women (this is where I touch briefly on the erotica… because oh MY lawd). The scenes are, as per usual, full of steam and our beloved author’s flair for painting the most salacious pictures through words is in my opinion, unmatched.
Wow! Amazing! My mind is blown - not only from the great writing but from how quickly I became totally absorbed in story that I was convinced I wasn’t going to like as Science Fiction Erotica is not my usual thing, it’s so far removed from my thing that I didn’t even know it was a thing! 😂
The amount of detail in each chapter is outstanding, at some points I actually forgot I was reading and thought I was watching a film as the descriptions were that vivid. I was fascinated by the two different worlds, one the more familiar male dominated with Renate trying to be heard and lead an expedition and the other, female dominated with men as servants to do their mistress’s bidding. Yet there was still disharmony and revolt. Learning about Adya and her culture was interesting, she had all the power, yet still felt helpless. These two story lines run along side each other, there is no interacting, each quite oblivious to the other, yet both thinking that there has to be more, there has to a higher purpose. And then, cliff hanger just as we as readers take that gasp as things are coming to a head and it looks like rebellion on both sides. I can’t wait to see how it turns out, will these two strong independent thinking women meet and put their worlds to right?
Kindle Unlimited: No Stand-alone: No Author: Jake Karter Rating: 4/5 ⭐️ Spiciness Rating: 5/5 🌶 POV: First Person Dual Perspective Main Characters : Renate and Adya Trope(s): Sci-Fi/Erotic/Thriller
Jake has a very unique writing style. His books tend to push the boundaries of sexual norms or what culture perceives as norms. Foundation’s Mistress is no different, except he has dipped his toe in the Sci-Fi world of it all. This book is very detailed, intelligently written, and an erotic adventure into two different worlds on their path as they will come together. The storyline is extremely interesting, very involved, and evolved. I would recommend reading when you are able to completely immerse yourself because we alternate between both Renate and Anya’s worlds. And, once I started, I didn’t want to stop because I became so invested in these two women, their very different worlds, and the causes they supported. And, as always Jake includes the absolute sexy to his reads. Boundaries pushed, serious pleasure had, and the cliffhanger…
Wow Jake Karter you've certainly done it again, another brilliantly written book, but this book has a twist as it is mixture of erotica scfi and suspense.
I will admit however it took me a while to get into "Foundations Mistress: A Third Law Novel (The Third Law Book 1)" as it went back and forth between Dr Renate Steenkamp and Adya The Last Subcreator who are both from very different worlds. However once I'd gotten a few chapters in I was gripped and I couldn't put the book down. Renate and Adya are both very strong minded women who have to be on there guard because they have people trying to undermine them at any given opportunity.
The book is full of steamy scenes that will leave nothing to the imagination as Jake will write in detail so you will feel part of what you are reading. I will say that if I had a Conrad or a Jeff I would be a happy woman.
WOW! This was a very creative, unique, thrilling, entertaining and highly erotic story that kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with anticipation and needing a cold shower to cool off continually throughout!
The imagery and world building was fantastic and really brought the story to life! The characters are well thought out and had me instantly captivated with them. Each character brought their own uniqueness to the story, plus all of their witty back and forth banter and sexual innuendoes made laugh one moment and then made me squirm on my seat the next moment. It was definitely an entertaining rollercoaster ride.
I loved every second of this story and I can’t wait read the conclusion.
Something different, something sensational…. this is Jake Karter’s latest book release “Foundation’s Mistress Book 1, The Third Law” This Author has an incredible story telling ability, whatever the trope. Amazingly detailed set up to the characters and this world and not surprisingly, this book draws you in and takes you on an engaging journey that was scintillatingly satisfying. Beautiful cover, beautiful book- a must read! ~Angie❤️
Fantasy is not a trope I have read before but since I loved everything else I have read by Jake, I thought I would give it a chance. It was a very interesting story and definitely not something I had ever heard of before. Jake is a master at giving you something unexpected but beautiful. There is no doubt that the second part of this duet will be anything less!
Adya was taught her whole life to become an important member of society. She followed the rules but as the special ceremony drew nearer, she felt different and desired things not allowed. Would she give into temptation? Would that be such a bad thing?
Jake Karter has given us such a unique and captivating story, which contains science fiction, fantasy and erotic romance. I very rarely read this type of genre, but I was curious to see how he pulled it all together. Jake did not disappoint. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and Jake can sure write those steamy sex scenes. I’m looking forward to the next book. I absolutely recommend this book,
Unique, captivating and like nothing I’ve read! Jake as a unique style of writing to capture the readers attention and I loved how he can capture your attention with the interesting and deep storylines! And I must say I absolutely adore the cover! Definitely check this one out!
This is my first fantasy/erotica/thriller book that I have read and I enjoyed it very much. The characters were great and I also loved the love scenes in the story. You definitely should read this book. If I had to use one word to describe this book it would be very captivating!!!!!
Foundation’s Mistress is from a genre that I normally wouldn’t read but I’m so glad that I did! Jake Karter has pulled out all the stops with this one and I can’t wait to read book 2.
This is the first time I’ve read this Trope and I found it compelling. Easy to follow. I enjoyed the way the chapters set out. Going from the Alkoun People then to the Scientist. There were twists I did not foresee.
Oh My God . . . this is SO DIFFERENT than the author's first series of books based on the life of "Jake Karter."
To be honest, when I first started the book I got lost and put it down. I mean I WAS LOST. I couldn't keep track of the characters or the terminology they were using.
But, I wanted to understand what was going on. The author told me if I had a question to just ask. I did. He said he couldn't answer that question because it was an important part of the story I would find out later. Well Just great!
I picked up the book, tucked my question back into my mind and kept reading. THIS TIME, it made sense and read a lot easier for me. Perhaps my problem is I haven't read much Science Fiction.
The story goes back in time and then into the future. I know there will be a major connection and I am waiting for it to be revealed. So on to Book 2 to see if I get my questions answered.
Will They Be Answered, Jake? Only you know the answers. You have sucked me into another series that I can't put down. When will Book #2 come out?
