Librarian Note: There is more than one author by this name in the Goodreads database.
Stephen Richards Covey was an American educator, author, businessman, and speaker. His most popular book is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. His other books include First Things First, Principle-Centered Leadership, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families, The 8th Habit, and The Leader In Me: How Schools and Parents Around the World Are Inspiring Greatness, One Child at a Time. In 1996, Time magazine named him one of the 25 most influential people. He was a professor at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University (USU) at the time of his death.
I found the book to be less enjoyable for several reasons. Firstly, it suffered from an overuse of repetitive phrases such as "when you have a problem" and "ask yourself," which made the reading experience monotonous. Additionally, the author's practice of appending their name at the end of each paragraph, seemingly to assert ownership, appeared gratuitous and significantly extended the length of the book, which was a source of annoyance for me.
It’s a short book but I don’t think it’ll be finished by me. I’m all for having book like this for reminders and in a simplified easy to digest form but the simplified language caused the author to repeat some phrases which irked me more than it probably should. There is nothing revolutionary about the 7 habits, it’s just a rinse and repeat of other books really.
In the end it's helpful rather than having naught read it. I'd recommend making sure you've read the main book first though, which gives more detail and elaboration on the points mentioned in this abridgement.
