A very good book on this tape style of bobbin lace characteristic of Slovenia, Idrija being the main lace centre for this type of lace.

It is written together with Metna Tratnick, a teacher at the Idrija Lace School, and contains original patterns, some really really cute.

The technical drawings are excellent, however note that the book has a visual approach to lace making, and there is hardly any text, so I fear a beginner might be frustrated without another text to fall on. However I find that it works very well in combination with Idrija Lace Narrow Cloth Stitch which has a more didactic approach and also includes a first part with a general introduction to materials and techniques. This book is however richer in terms of the extensive technical drawing.

However the book has everything that will allow an intermediate to advanced lace maker to enjoy the patters. The book is in two parts, in that each pattern is first presented as a pricking with notes and enlargement of how particular points have to be worked; and a second part with a fully worked out pricking in technical drawing, so that you can literally follow all the threads. A picture of the finished lace is also included in each pattern.

Printed on glossy paper, its clear large pictures, drawings and lovely patterns make it a really good book.
