Underwhelming! I picked up this book without knowing it is a collection of short stories and I don't like short stories at all, especially the open ended ones. So, maybe it is me and not the book. But still, I thought the book's social commentary was quite basic and simplistic, or may be I did not even understand any of it and it all just went over my head. This book is hyped by one and all, so I was expecting it to be so much better. Many also mention it as a book set in and quintessentially Bangalore, but I did not get the sense that there was anything particularly Bangalore about the book. It may have been any Indian city, just that it was Bangalore. The only thing going for it was its language. Shanbhag's writing is free-flowing and you keep turning pages.
A very good book in my opinion. The story was realistic and could be relatable for many as people would've come across the small experiences mentioned in the stories. One big story happens and then there are few shorter stories. One thing I would like to highlight is that these stories are open ended. So if you don't like open ended stories, please don't read it.
