Bran

Losing your eye in an alley bar-fight will change you. And I don't just mean physically.

I thought my biggest hurdle was accepting that I look different. Turns out, my personal Everest is realizing that other people don't accept me.

Specifically, women.

I'm ready to throw in the towel on friend-of-a-friend dates and algorithmic dinners. Gonna pour myself into my gym, Paradise, and hire some new people. Keep myself focused on what I have, not what I don't.

Well, that was the plan.

Until she walked in wearing a sexy trenchcoat and heels, calling herself E, telling me to get to my knees.

Now I'm owned, I'm hers. Her sub, her pet.

Her Stray.

The problem is, I won't survive if she doesn't keep me.

Stray is a femdom romance. For more information including content warnings and tropes, please visit the author's website.

It was long and exhausting😕

This was my second novel by this author. Her writing was great. Very easy to read, easy to follow along. The issues I had seem to persist from the last novel to this one- meh MCs, really enjoyable, realistic secondary characters, very little plot, but an unnecessarily long novel (510 pages).

The way these two met was laughable. It was so unrealistic, you have to completely throw all logic and reasoning out the window to believe how it happened and that it actually continued to happen that first night lmao. But without it we wouldn’t have a story. **For a professional Dominant who takes on clients (especially an inexperienced first-timer 🤪- HA! 🙄) she had a responsibility not just to herself but to her client to be safe, consensual, and knowledgeable with her actions, but some sessions pushed it and were uncomfortable reading.** I think we are supposed to just write it off as unbelievable/unrealistic too, but God, it was difficult. It’s almost like no research was done.

Bran, or Stray, (MMC) was not likeable. He was extremely self-pitying and kinda an asshole. Maybe not outwardly but his thoughts? Man 😬. He obsessed over this other less attractive guy who works out at his gym because he has a girlfriend and Bran doesn’t. Bran was confused by this, I mean utterly flabbergasted. How can an ugly dude get a girlfriend, a girlfriend who is hot nonetheless but not him!? As if that thinking isn’t a total turn-off he then goes on to say he knows that guy isn’t rich so she couldn’t be with him because of that, so why….Bran himself is this nice guy, fit, buff, attractive, yet still single. The only thing he doesn’t have is a girlfriend. So his logic? It’s because of his missing eye. Yeah, no, buddy, with a gross personality like that, it’s no wonder you’re single.
In the words of our great MMC:
”It’s like when an ugly person asks how they look; you don’t tell them you look ugly; you think that they look great because that’s the kind thing to do.”

Also, maybe this is a hot take, ugly, fat, or poor people can find love and happiness and be in relationships too! We don’t deserve to live a life of misery or loneliness just for existing.

Something that annoyed me throughout was the male characters overuse of the words girls and chicks when referring to women. Normally, it’s whatever when it’s thrown in here or there. But these were all 30+ year old men saying it and I don’t think I ever heard them once refer to them as a woman or women the whole book. There’s also references to Grey’s Anatomy characters thrown in a lot. Great if you’ve seen it, if you haven’t tough shit I guess lol. Idk who any of the characters mentioned were but I think knowing would have helped give character development or relatability to the ones here. Wouldn’t know tho 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Elsie (FMC) was okay. Honestly she was a little boring and I can’t place my finger on why, even when I got to read her POVs of her as a dominant. Actually, I preferred reading the femdom scenes from Brans POV because sometimes Elsie got caught up in her insecurity or confusion of doing things right and it took me out of the scenes. Whereas with Bran, he was just responding to her commands, which was hot. By the end, I was just frustrated with them both. Elsie felt like a Beck 2.0 (from The Wild One), holding something back from Bran for no damn reason. It honestly made no sense why she would, it was nothing wrong or bad lol.

I like and appreciate Daisy Jane writing books about all these different kinks, most of which are definitely lacking in the romance world. The spotlight needs to shine on them for sure to normalize them. Why is a female dominant so unheard of or rejected and taboo, but a male dominant is embraced and revered? Think on it. The answer’s pretty simple.
I would like to see more female dominants that are actually comfortable or experienced with being dominant from the start though. If you have recs, lmk.

I skimmed the last 50%. It’s super predictable and miscommunication happens. The romantic relationship started way too late for me to believe in their love feelings, their lust I understood. No cheating or OW/OM drama. The sex (which actually happened at like 80%) was hot and so was the kink scenes if you can get over the glaring issues of kink done unsafely.

Wow, there were WAY too many other things going on in this book than the main storyline.

Warning, rambling thoughts ahead.

The mc didn't even meet until a good 35% in and even then their "relationship" felt very flimsy.

Purchasing femdom-wear and sex toys off Amazon when she barely had money to take care of her child?

It bothered me SO MUCH that she let her mother (who has serious memory issues) watch her four-year-old. Are you just waiting for that moment when she leaves your child home alone? Oh wait, she already did that!!

The steam was hot, but I wanted more depth of story. The premise that EVERY single woman the H dated was turned off because he had an eye patch was silly. He owned a gym, was physically fit, was very kind, had a good group of friends...and was treated like trash because he had one eye? I don't buy it.

Guys.. hear me out and ignore the cover and synopsis.
This was actually an incredibly well-written romance with deep emotions. Both the cover and synopsis of this make it seem as though this a very sexual book, or like it had no plot. It did have smut (obviously) but it wasn't the main point. You spend more time learning the intricacies of the characters' minds and their struggles than anything else. The main message was definitely about accepting yourself, with a scarred MMC who lost his eye in a fight protecting his sister and now struggles with self-esteem issues and a single mother who desperately needs control in her life.
I enjoyed the dynamic between the FMC and MMC, as well as the side characters. Every single side character was interesting and funny. They shined in their own way. I don't think I am going to read their books, but I would probably read another book by this author. I felt the characters were for the most part very fleshed out. I really enjoyed the way they grew into themselves as people, and were very understanding and communicative, especially in the last one third of the book. The scene where he meets her daughter and is so terrified she's going to be scared of him only for them to connect and him to come to love her as his own was so emotional.

My biggest gripe with this book is the length. Now mind you I am not a person who hates long or character-driven books, I actually quite enjoy both. I love a good slow burn. But This book did NOT need to be 500 pages. I made it to page ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX before they even interacted at all. That is absurd. I was so close to DNFing. I'm glad I stuck it out but like still, that is utterly ridiculous. It was all set up for the highly illogical and fantastical meeting which could never happen in real life. Personally, I was able to suspend my disbelief just for the fun of it, but I don't think that would be the case for everyone.

Overall I gave this four stars. Maybe a 3.5 rounded up after I let my feelings on it marinate a little.

I love every minute of reading Stray, and I didn't want it to end. My only wish is, I wish there were more books like this one.

Bran and Elsie met in a very intriguing way. And it was hot! Both lovely and broken in their way. What started as a mutual arrangement; turns into something so much more, and it’s beautiful.

Everyone should have a Bran in their life. He is fiercely loyal and caring. But he doesn't see his full potential and is lonely. Plus, he is thoughtful and swoon-worthy.

Elsie is a stunning single mother and takes on being a Dom. Soon to realizes she is natural. In her personal life, she thinks it’s too heavy and dark to have any else involved.

Stray is beautifully written and spicy. Now add a cute four-year-old who will steal your heart, and you have a masterpiece.

To every Stray out there, someone is out there for you.

i absolutely loved daisy janes “i’ll do anything”, so i automatically had high hopes for stray as well.
i loved this smut— femdom isn’t as appreciated in the book community as it deserves to be, and i love that daisy is so open when writing it— and writing it well. i really enjoyed all the smut in this book.
I like that these two characters have lives, and things going on outside of each other. Bran has his problems that he’s dealing with, and Elsie has hers— but they still are great together.
i loved the way they met, and i love the incision of the side characters.
the effie and bran moments were so cute, and bran is such a sweet guy. i really loved them.

I can't. DNF 18%. At this stage the MCs haven't met yet. Both of them are ridiculous.

He's got it all - his own biz, a ripped body (cuz he owns a gym and sets an example), used to be perfectly good looking, has great friends and family...and BOO Effing Hoo! He lost an eye during a bar fight EIGHT years ago! And he's still whining (in his head and out loud) like a little girl about it, how it keeps him from finding the ONE, and being a girl's ONE! Are you serious????

I just can't.

if i could give this 0 stars i would.
the final straw was when the MMC said to a 4 year old “I am. the three of us, Effie, were going to have a baby together.” HUH, WHAT, NOPE, IM DONE FOR THE DAY.

After reading (and not really enjoying) Where Violets Bloom, I still picked up Stray because I loved the side character of Bran from the first book and I wanted a femdom romance. And I wasn’t disappointed!

This is only my second book from the author so I’m not sure if this is how all her books are, but in both the first and second in this series there’s a LOT of set up. In this one they didn’t meet until 25% in, and damn, I was getting frustrated and annoyed. I might try more from her but I hope they don’t all have the same amount of set up. I wanted more MEAT.

Bran is just… adorable. My heart broke for him and his insecurities. He lost an eye in a bar fight 8 years ago and hasn’t been confident since then. His blind dates have SUCKED (do people really act like that on blind dates??) and he winds up putting an ad out for a female personal trainer for his gym, hoping to get more used to being around women and feeling more comfortable talking to them.

Enter, Elsie - aka E aka his Goddess. Who just went through a crap breakup and has a lot of struggles in her personal life and… well… one thing leads to another, and she gives Domantrix-ing a try.

It’s hot. It’s SO hot. Even though a lot of the confusion that happens could be resolved with some honest convos. But each of them gets EXACTLY what they deserve from one another and it was too cute.

Bonus: pegging.

Why is it so ducking long- like the storyline is just dragged on, they were happy and in love at 84% and the rest of it was just time jumps and telling not showing. I did not like the vocabulary either- the wording made me squirm. Characters were meh, backstories were overlooked and unexplained thoroughly at least, I can’t remember if they had personalities or not, it’s just sex (which was meh) until around 70% and were told that they started talking and forming a relationship without showing us how it progressed fully, and the only character I found enjoyable was Mally- which wasn’t much.

GIVE ME ALL OF THE FEMDOM RECS ! Please & thank you. I’m addicted.

I really enjoyed this one! Bran was a little sweetie & just needed to accept himself.. and I love that he has a good heartwarming journey in this book! I really like the FMC too! Gotta love a single mom ❤️ the epilogue was so damn sweet.

4.5 ⭐️ 2.5 🌶

Update: I did a reread with the audio!!! Teddy & daisy do such a good job on the narration. It’s amazing. Totally enhanced the book. Also forgot how funny & sexy this book is.

Not going to lie, the smut in here could light a house on fire! It was THAT good🔥

Did I think that I would be into this?? I was really unsure...but there was just something about the way the sexy scenes were written that was just so hot.

Elise (h) would do multiple 🔞 *things* to him, in order for him to...find relief. And he definitely did. Let's just say that this man had it baadd🥵

I kinda skimmed the rest of the plot...coz I was that anxious to get to the next *scene* - they were just that good (so I can't really attest to the rest). But trust me when I say it's worth 5 stars just for the steam!

Daisy Jane is THE ONLY author I trust to push my comfort zone when it comes to trying new tropes/kinks/etc in the books I read. She's done it again with Stray.

I've read femdom once before, and of course by Daisy...and I was pleasantly surprised so I knew I would be again this time too.

I really love the world-building, character depth development, and relationship building she is doing in this series and it makes me feel very invested in the characters and excited for each new book release.

I LOVED Bran. Seriously for as tender and sweet as he was, he was also a strong enough man to give control (in the bedroom) to Elsie and also take his turn with the control too. He really had ALL my feels.

Equally Elsie was someone I could relate to and cheer on. She really had a lot on her life plate and handled it all with grace and dignity. So, watching her find her joy...find something just for her. Yeah, I was a total sucker.

There are so many side characters and side stories that intertwine with their romance that you'll be a big pile of goo along with me...I promise!

Judging by the other reviews here, this book has been enjoyed by many readers so I am going to assume that it is well written but just not for me. I am accustomed to reading books that top out around 250 pages, which means that events get going quickly. When I had gotten 75 pages into the story and the hero and heroine hadn't even met yet, my urge to skim was strong. All that had been accomplished by this point was to show the reader that both the hero and heroine were unhappy. I couldn't deal with any more wallowing, so I DNF'd the book. Someone who enjoys seeing a relationship develop over a 500+ page book may like this, but it wasn't for me.

Life has gotten in the way the last few days making reading plain hard. But thankfully this book pulled me out of that rut and I was able to devour this amazing story. Thanks to this author for introducing me to Fendom romance with I’LL DO ANYTHING, I knew I needed this story. Especially with it being Bran’s book. I wanted his story before I ever truly knew him. There was just something that spoke to me in VIOLETS IN BLOOM.

Holy hotness!! This was such a page turner and page burner. So much scorching romance all without these two even doing the deed. Heck, half the time they were practically fully clothed. I couldn’t believe how delicious these two were together. And their chemistry was off the charts.

I absolutely felt all the feels with both Elsie and Bran. Both with so much on their shoulders and hurt in their lives, how could I not feel some emotional connection with them. Between their pasts and their present, they carried a lot of baggage. But seeing them work through it all, in their own unique way was a powerful thing.

Brilliant and sexy, STRAY is that amazing, must read book you never knew you needed. I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next. Mally’s book will definitely be an interesting tale. 5 Stars!

DNF @ 44%

No. Just, no.

This is not a female dominant/male submissive story. This is a young girl finding out about making money playing at being a dominatrix and a stupid misunderstanding that bring the characters together.

Also, in what world do single men watch Grey’s?

Also, in what world would a super hot guy not be able to find a girlfriend just because he’s missing an eye?

Also, why would you leave your 4yo daughter with a mother to babysit who has dementia issues?

Blech.

The final nail is the unironic use of the not-a-word irregardless. 🤷‍♀️

Ok, so I wasn't sure if I should read this bc I don't especially love "femdom" books but Holy Sh*t were Bran and Elsie freaking HOT!! Can I please sign up for a Bran of my very own? I didn't think my love for Van could be topped but Bran just about did it.

Daisy Jane is QUICKLY becoming one of my favorite authors! You need to try this series... You will not regret it! 💜💜

At the beginning:
I want to get into this story but every time more than 2 characters are in a scene it is chaos. I do not know what is going on. I think the author is trying to give info about all the background characters to set up the rest if the books in the series but… keep your eyes on the prize… what is THIS book about!?

A bit later:
For a femdom erotic novel there is sure a lot of character development and story. We don’t get a hint of femdom until 17% of the way into the book. Femdom erotica usually starts with page one and bang! So this is new and… good I think. And the main characters don’t even meet until 28% of the way through.

Ahh.. how wouldn’t love a eye-patch wearing muscled heart throb after this:
“Sure I want to get laid. But to have the reason you’re not getting laid be because you have two fucking rad, healthy, dope kids under your feet, wanting your attention, wisdom, love, and time? I always knew I wanted to be a dad, but that simple story of them being so overwhelmed with their kids that even fucking became a scheduled task… it made me realize just how bad I want that.”

Ok so… I really liked this book and read it all the way through the epilogue. (This doesn’t always happen.)
However! If you are a dominant female with experience in the lifestyle you may not love it. It is an eroticized versions of femdom. It is femdom/dominatrix stuff, not D/s. But still hot AF and warm and cuddly with all the feels.

I probably could have done without the 2 descriptive blowjobs at the end. Especially:
“His balls are warm and full against the underside of my chin. He smoothes a finger down the bridge of my nose, sawing his hips slowly into my open mouth…. orgasms in my mouth, directly down my throat. I swallow him down, every last drop, loving the warm glide of it down my throat and into my belly.”

Ugh. Not femdom erotica. But if you are here for the sexy bits and not the dynamics, then this book is super sexy hawt! And the characters are sweet and the story.. well.. there is one!

Oh my god I loved this book. Our 22 y/o FMC, Elsie, has a 4 y/o daughter, Effie, and also takes care of her mother who has early onset dementia. While working as much as she can to provide for her daughter and mother, she realizes that she needs to take back some power for herself. Her coworker introduces her to the world of BDSM, specifically, becoming a Dominatrix. She takes on her first client (and our MC of the story), Bran. Bran is a 30 y/o gym owner who lost one of his eyes in a bar fight 8 years ago. Because of this, he has retreated into himself and has been unable to form a lasting, meaningful connection with a woman.

This story follows their connection that transcends their initial relationship that was supposed to be strictly Dom/sub. However, from the very first meeting, Elsie and Bran felt an immediate attraction. We have lots of hot Dominatrix scenes where Bran is enthusiastically submitting to her.

I absolutely loved the emotional journey that we see between Elsie and Bran. This book dives into deep topics such as self worth, self identity, and the importance of loving yourself. I am very appreciative that there wasn't a third act breakup/issue that we see happen so often in romance books. We also see Elsie and Bran step outside of their roles as Dom/sub and connect on that level as well.

Bran's relationship with Effie was so sweet. He is obsessed with her and mentions early on in the book how much he wants to be a husband and father. Effie has him wrapped around her finger, it's adorable.

I also found the pop culture references to be pretty funny. Usually I find pop culture references to be cringy but it's usually because the writing is stiff and doesn't flow with the conversation. However, the way the author weaved in references to Grey's Anatomy, real life social media platforms, and actual dating apps, it brought a sense of camaraderie that we were all in on the references together.

The only critique I have for this book is that the author doesn't talk about the level of safety that's required in the BDSM world. Elsie has her "mentor" (her coworker) and she watches a lot of videos, but I feel like you just can't grasp the level of understanding of how important safety and trust is in a Dom/sub relationship after a night of binging youtube. I just wish that this was addressed in the beginning so readers understood the gravity of this type of relationship.

But overall, this was an amazing book. 5/5 stars!

I just couldn't keep reading it, I started the book with high expectations because I love a great femdom book, but I left it in the 30%

100 pages and the only thing they have introduce us is how sad and unhappy the characters are, and how much they have insecurities, listen, that's not a bad thing, but the way it's introduced to us the readers is incredibly boring. I couldn't really feel empathy with the characters and their problems and personality.

And the male characters are low-key sexists, despite being a femdom book

《“Dude, if you hire a hot chick to work here and then she’s all like, Hey Bran, I got this IKEA bookcase this weekend, can you come build it? You’re one-hundred percent building that bookcase instead of getting wings and beers.”》

The use of the word "chick" is annoyingly repeated.

Even with that I think the author has room for improvement, if she compacted his stories more and better developed the personality of her characters the plot will be really great. Well, that's my opinion from the little I've read.

abysmal. okay that’s mean, semi-abysmal 😒

the femdom could have been better, bc if im *finally* going to read a femdom, it needs to do what it says and have that mummy vibe which this didn’t. If it’s that kind of smut, it needs to bang and it didn’t. Throwing in a c0ck cage doesn’t make it femdom, sorry. 😬

first book was way better. these two were the definition of forgettable because I read this a few weeks back and now I don’t really remember their names, just that she was a single mother low on cash and her friend tells her that she can earn money by being a dominant. heroine thought she was applying to be the hero’s dominant seeing his job post for a “heavyweight trainer” in his gym. she rocked up in her trench and ordered him around and he accepted it but eh.

WOW, this book was so much more than I thought it would be. My baby Bran, I just loved him so much. I actually loved all the characters. I went into this thinking it was gonna be a smutty femdom book but it became so much more. It pulled on heart strings so much and I can’t even say how much I loved it. I found myself smiling like an idiot through most of this book. I don’t wanna spoil anything because I loved reading this book with no expectations.
