It only makes sense that she keeps the world at arm’s length. No one to answer to. No one to lose. No one to touch her banshee skin and become connected forever.
It’s a system that works — even if it means keeping her partner, Flint, from getting any closer to her.
Flint is restrained.
As Harbinger’s bodyguard, he has to be — until pulling her behind his gargoyle armor accidentally links them. Now Harbinger’s privy to the romantic feelings he’s denied himself for years…
And Flint’s no longer the only one connected to her.
Agony is unlike anything they’ve ever seen.
A night terror extracted from a serial killer, Agony doesn’t care who he hurts — and Flint and Harbinger look like perfect targets.
Forced together by circumstance, the three search for the remains of the murderer’s victims…and try to keep from killing each other in the process.
But as the mystery comes into focus, the lines between the three of them begin to blur. What started as begrudging partnership becomes as intertwined as their bodies in the dark.
The bond between Flint and Harbinger is fraying — but Agony isn’t the only one to blame. Not when Flint and Harbinger have painful histories they’ve spent their whole lives running from.
Every step toward uncovering the truth proves that the only way to untangle these complicated webs is to unravel them…and each other.
Warning: This 95k novel is an M/M/F romance between a gargoyle, a night terror, and a banshee. It is intended only for adult audiences. Reader discretion is advised.

**The first book in this duet, Skin, is included in the paperback version of Inextricably Tied!**
Aveda Vice (any pronouns) is a pansexual author of unconventional kink and monstrous romances. In their books, you’ll find a fondness for queer creatures, polyamorous love, and grumpy girls. She falls down rabbit holes, decorates every day like it’s Halloween, and is going to hell.
I 100% went into this series expecting just a fun monster romance, I should’ve known better lmao. Aveda has this insane ability to weave an intriguing plot with a true crime element, deep emotions, scorching hot monster smut, and genuine romance. It’s SO GOOD. Even the prequel novella (Skin), which is mostly smut, still made me emotional?? Like wtf. That’s talent.
Also this book addressed my religious trauma in a smutty way, so instant 5⭐️ obviously.
Well I was lucky enough to receive an ARC (my first EVER can you believe…) in exchange for my honest review so strap in theydies and gals, time for me to be kind of mostly serious.
You should all know that I am an Aveda Vice stan. Am I into all the kinks and spicy stuff she writes? Not really but her writing is so good I don’t care. Another book where the main characters love interest likes to be called Daddy? I will deal with it only because Aveda is an icon and writes her tushie off.
I will not get into the plot because I do not want to spoil anything but I will say… this was wild lol like I wasn’t expecting a smutty paranormal murder mystery but it’s what we got and I have all the time in the world for it. I came for the romance and stayed for the roller coaster mystery of the storyline. And I loved all these emotional, big baby, horny ass characters so much. I mean who doesn’t love an incredibly large, stoic dom?? Snarky shadow nightmare man thing?? Hot skeleton babe?? Cmon dude.
4/5 stars because sometimes the writing was confusing and it was hard to tell what was going on (which I feel like happens a lot in MMF spicy scenes but ESPECIALLY here because one of the M doesn’t have like… a tangible body?? Idk dude) and I feel like I had to read certain passages multiple times to know who was doing what and where to whom. But also… it was freaky so maybe I’ll bump her up to 4.5/5? We will see let’s let it marinate for a bit.
Also, huge kudos to Aveda on her insane world-building abilities. The banshees are so sick and really caught my interest, I immediately wanted to know everything about them and all of their lore. Also I just love that in a novel with so much going for it she was able to throw in some sexy religious trauma. Miss Vice really gave us everything.
Anyways, if you’re looking for some paranormal smut that’s moody, romantic, spooky, and like really dirty?? You should read this. If you’re a fan of the hot monsters, but also like REALLY love Law & Order SVU, you should read this. But! Read the SKIN novella first. It’s important. Oh and the other MMF novella with the shifters (I think? Idk) that also tied into this. And everything else AV writes. Okay bye 😘
4.5 ⭐️ I have NEVER cried this hard reading a smutty paranormal romance.
I'm kind of in love with this book. Is it the most outrageous monster romance I've ever read? No. But it was pretty up there, especially since Agony's physical form was so everchanging. It was honestly both hard to picture and really fun, at the same time.
Harbin and Flint are already involved when this book begins since we see them start up in the #0.5 novella. I don't love that the start of the story is basically hidden behind another paywall, but an author's gotta eat, so I guess there's that.
Still, I'm glad we see their connection being only physical, but not emotional. All emotional build-up and relationship growth are in this book. And Agony. He's all here and I cannot wrap my head around how I went from thinking there was no way for him to be 'redeemed' -knowing where he comes from- but the more we get to know him the more obsessed with him I became. I ended up feeling like there wasn't nearly enough of Agony, and although I loved Harbin and Flint, I wish Agony's personality could've been further developed in the book. Harbin and Flint feel much more stable, while Agony is so brand new, and at the same time so timeless. I loved the connection between him and the girls, even if it makes this book's emotional punch that much harder.
I really think I'll explore more of this author in the future, because if her other works are like this one, I'm going to want to know.
🌶🌶🌶🌶 / 5 - Really spicy. Supernatural, moster-sized kind of spice. Also, the fact that one of the parties involved can basically form any shape they so choose is... very handy.
Out of all of Aveda's titles so far, this one was the most emotional and gritty for me and I LOVED it. I was expecting angst and emotions after Skin. Even though the novella was a glorious 50-60 pages of smut, I loved Harbinger and Flint together there, and the setup of their history was great. The pining was superb, and I was so excited to read more in Inextricably Tied to find out how both their personal and working relationship would expand. On top of that, I knew going into this that it would be MMF, and I was suuuper interested in how a third character would fit in.
And WOW, Aveda really did not disappoint on any front. Throwing Agony into the mix was PERFECTION. He added so much spark to the story and dynamic, and I was so intrigued and drawn to him from the very first scene he was in. Agony is honestly probably my favorite character from Aveda so far. 🥰
The mystery of the crimes in Inextricably Tied was also compelling, and I really was invested in finding the answers to what was going on there, and learning more about Harbinger, Flint and Agony respectively. Aveda did such an amazing job balancing the SUPER HOT SPICE (with daddy kink, hello!!!), the really heartfelt emotions, and a beautiful relationship at a good pace too. I absolutely loved the dynamic between all three with each other, and what they each bring to the relationship. I honestly can reread this a million times and feel ALL the feels for this beautiful trio. 🥹
Romantic suspense, polyamorous, monster, romance?! Yes. This is interesting because we’re not trying to find out who dunnit, we’re just trying to find the remains of the murdered girls. We have some ✨interesting✨ gender fluid pan sexual polyamory going on. Plus the paranormal aspects of the sexy times?! Peak, quality, steam. The emotional explorations of grief and trust added depth to the relationship. And Agony provided snarky banter.
an earc copy of this title was sent to me by the author in exchange for an honest review
You guys know that I absolutely adore Aveda’s writing already (and in general they are just an incredible human, you better go follow and support rn!) but oh my god this book blew me away.
Flint and Harbinger had my heart from the moment I read Skin but introducing Agony into their dynamic was the puzzle piece I didn’t realize we were missing. He was everything the two of them needed to make their relationship stronger and better and he helped them both show facets of themselves I don’t think we otherwise would’ve ever seen.
The settings in this book? Fantastic. Haunting and spooky with that level of charm Aveda carries into these books in spades. I would gladly read an entire book set in any of the places we visit in Inextricably Tied.
The smut? The sexual tension and pining and angst and love? Next level brilliant. Aveda is one of my favourites for these scenes. You are enthralled from the very first touch! And the mystery, suspense elements we get? Had me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t see any of the twists coming and I love that!
Just this book was utter perfection and is now a top favourite of the year and all time. I cannot wait to see what we get next from Aveda Vice🥰
This book is almost more urban fantasy than romance, and I love it for that.
Full thoughts on Booktube, as the more I think on it the more complicated (in a good way!) and possibly incoherent my thoughts get. I would love for this to be the first in a series concentrating solely on this triad, but alas.
Yall I have been waiting for what it seems like forever for this book. And when I finally got my hands on it I was worried that it would be over too soon. First of all, I sat my butt on my couch and read this book in one sitting. A love a good romantic suspense that has me guessing until the end and that it did. So yes Flint and Harbinger are trying to solve a case and their relationship is also unraveling or possibly blooming with the addition of Agony. Now talk about giving me anxiety. I thought I was going to hate Agony; however, this little night tremor was charming, cunning, and hella funny. He also served as a kinda conduit for both Flint and Harbinger to get pass their barriers and really explore their fears. Ironic right!!! I thought it was clever bc that's literally what his purpose is to prey on fear and ratchet it up to mess with your head. But little did he know that he would also be exploring his identity and trying to understand his purpose for better or for worse. These three have to really dig deep and answer core questions "Who am I" and "Who do I want to be". There was such a range of feelings anywhere from fear, to rage, but mostly grief. The writing was so good that you could almost feel the weight of the grief (so be mindful bc it gets heavy). I don't want to give too much away but the handling of past traumas and how they are manifesting in present day was pretty vivid. Though Aveda Vice dropped in some delicious sexy time to give of us/me some reprieve. And oh the sexy time was oh so good.
My only critique is the ending felt rushed. And it didn't feel like what happened in the Break was totally fleshed out or resolved. Though it could be that was the intention to leave room for more books in the series. Perhaps and I would be here for it. So my rating is 4.5/4.75
Thanks to Aveda Vice for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
CN: kidnapping, serial rapist/killer both of youn girls, grief, organized religious (cult) worship and isolation, grooming, corruption, community wars, seance, violence (on page and descriptive), government testing, house fire, kink (daddy and praise kink, dom/brat)
“Let me take care of you.” Both of you. Agony eyes lock on Flint’s, branding him with intention. “I don’t want anything but this. I don’t dream of anything but you.”
A banshee, a gargoyle, and a night terror all get inextricably tied together and create one of the most amazing stories I’ve read…EVER. Aveda Vice leaves me speechless once again and I’m not sure how to coherently review this book. While the scenes that involved Harbin and Flint are always sure to cause combustion, adding Agony, the night terror into the fold took heat to another level. Y’all this was an experience- especially when Agony goes all tendrils and smoke! 🥵
This book is more than the monsters and smut, it has teeth. Aveda gives us an amazing story of suspense and action. We learn a lot about both Flint and Harbinger and their relationship dynamics. Why they are the way they are and some things they have never shared. Then there’s Agony, a creation used for fear that becomes “humanized” in a way the longer he spends with Flint and Harbin. We lean into the Timbers community post the action in the book Bound and the turmoil going on there and how it’s bleed outward into the supernatural community. It’s just a well written, well rounded book.
Once again, I find myself holding my kindle and thinking how amazing Aveda’s mind is. She takes monsters and creatures and makes you forget that you’re reading about monsters and creatures. The way her mind works is just amazing and I am always awaiting her next mind-blowing work of art.
Honest ARC review: Wow what a book! This was an intense, emotional, spicy journey. This book is about Harbinger a banshee, Flint a gargoyle, and Agony a night terror. Harbinger and Flint have such a complex relationship and are just coasting by when things go a bit haywire. Harbinger unknowingly touches a part of a night terror that has come to life and is now connected to him forever. The three of them start their journey on rocky ground but as time passes they all start to have feeling for each other. Trust is not easy for all three of these characters but when they reach that point their relationship grows tremendously. They go through a rollercoaster of a journey and not everyone makes it out ok. Through it all they each learn to be honest with themselves and to allow the others in. Now these three know how to have some mind boggling hot sex so the spice is top notch. I would highly recommend reading the book before this called Skin so that you can understand the dynamic between Harbinger and Flint. This series is a must read as well as all of Aveda Vices other books!
TW: Violence, gore, torture, blood, religious trauma, coercion and lack of consent (non-sexual), grief, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, corrupt organizations (law enforcement, religion) Death and murder (especially of teenage girls)Non-graphic descriptions of suicide, self-harm, parent death, child death, vomit, bugs
Y’all this was everything. It was a different story than Aveda has told before but the execution was done so well. This had a mystery element to it, which I really enjoyed, while still being the wild and sexy time I come to expect from Aveda. Like the book opens up with a sex scene kinda wild 😂 This is a poly MMF romance and I ate it up. He writes characters you cannot help but love. I already loved Harbinger and Flint from Skin and my love for Agony came easily. He’s absolute chaos in the best possible way. The way he just wants to be loved truly wrecked me. Flint makes me melt a bit. I love how protective he is. I love how deeply he loves people. I loved learning about Harbinger. I love how resilient she is. Watching her begin to heal from religious trauma felt raw and honest. (But that holy room scene though 😵💫) I liked how personal agency and autonomy was talked about through Harbinger. Aveda really put me through it emotionally with this one. Like real tears. Multiple times. Their writing allows for such a connection with the characters that their pain hurts. If you couldn’t tell I just really love his writing. The way she can say just the wildest shit but the writing is still beautiful is a testament to their craft. I cannot say enough good things about this book and Aveda’s writing. I can’t wait for my physical copy to come in 😍
I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review
This was an honest to goodness delight. I’m not joking.
You know, I’ve low key gotten used to reading straight up smut with a sprinkling of plot in it and I’ve been hella satisfied with that. And you know why? Bc it allows my brain to shut off and helps IMMEASURABLY with my cravings for reading escapism.
But that wasn’t this book. That wasn’t this at all. 💗 There was such clear thought and meticulous planning to this read. Was it a monster romance? Absolutely. Was I totally rooted to the spot by a serial killer and all the dead ends, frustrations and twists that came along with that? Ab-so-lute-ly.
This was a fantastic gem of a novella to find. It was sweet and bitter, intricate and fun. It really was a delight to read and there were times I genuinely forget I had picked this up in this first place bc of the absolutely stunning cover art. (Sue me. Quality cover art is life.) I was That proud I had managed to find such a cleverly hidden little diamond in the rough.
Excellent work. Truly a happy delight to find for me. 4.5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.🌟
This was exactly the book I needed to read this week.
Flint and Harbinger are back and on a case, this time with night terror, Agony, along for the ride. A very cool paranormal romantic suspense book with plenty of monsters, steam and mystery.
Sex Notes: Touch Starved FMC, Praise, Soft Dom, D/S, Safe Words and Check Ins, Toy Use, Exhibitionism, Ribbed Tongue (Flint), Sex in a "Holy" Place, Fisting, Use of the term "Daddy", DP, "Why Choose" Parts (Agony)
4.5 stars This was my first time reading a book of this genre and it definitely delivered. My expectation of this book was pretty clear, but I didn’t expect to get so sucked into the plot and characters the way I did, especially towards the last 2/3 to the end.
This book had everything I had hoped: a diverse spread of characters who each faced different character/personality growth, a fast-paced + simple plot, and lots of creative humor (and smut) between the characters.
The only thing stopping this from being a 5 star read for me was that I found a lot of writing that separated some of the transition scenes to be a little unclear. I just found myself not really catching all the indications that the characters were in a totally different setting or time. Other than that little technical issue in the writing, the author did an amazing job putting a lot of detail and description into a straight-forward storyline. This was probably the quickest I’ve been able to read a full book because I was so captivated by the writing and story!
I usually tread the cute, angst-less, fluffy waters of MonsterF🍆cker land and got purely drawn into this book because Aveda Vice wrote it. I'm not going to lie I was VERY worried when the plot was a whodunnit following a serial killer and characters with a lot of trauma. It's dark and gritty and also so freaking full of swoon.
Read this if you like: 🩸a mystery 🩸hot monster loving 🩸Messy characters doing their best 🩸Desecrating altars 🩸Throuples 🩸MMF 🩸Kinky AF
Some of the scenes between Harbinger, Agony and Flint had me watery eyed because they were that damn beautiful. I was expecting to just love the kink and the monsters, then to not get super invested in the rest of the plot. But damn, Aveda hooked me and hooked me hard. Not saying that the kink and the sex aren't 🔥🥵🔥. Cuz they are. OH BOY are they. But the emotion and relationship building that goes into making this throuple come together, thwart the bad guys and work through their respective traumas was. Freaking. Gorgeous.
It's getting to the point where Aveda can just take my money. I'm going to buy everything she publishes whether they're writing outside of my comfort zone or not. Whatever she pens is going to be fabulous and we just have to be ready to go on the hottest, monsterfudging ride of a lifetime... Until the next book 🤣
Aveda Vice can do no wrong. Everything they write is just the perfect type of kinky urban fantasy.
Skin was a great introduction to the characters, but Inextricably Tied brought me to my knees. Flint - the big protector, always keeping his emotions as buried as possible, the man who always has to have everything under control - gets stuck with not one but two temperamental brats. Harbinger is fighting her own battles and carrying so many traumatic memories - both hers and others'- is forced to learn to speak out. And Agony, that poor, lovable bastard, has to learn everything about himself and the world around him when all he knows so far of it is that it's full of terrible people.
And the three make such a fun triad to follow! Their banter is brilliant, Agony is the cheekiest and it drives Flint mad, but oh is it worth it to work each other up.
Well…damn. I wasn’t expecting this. For a book about monsterf*@!ing I wasn’t expecting a real Urban Fantasy story. We got all the beats: a terrible crime has been committed, the official investigative body is out of leads, private investigators are brought in. One is reckless, one is cautious and protective. Looking for clues, following cold trails, narrowly escaping certain death from assailants unknown. A mystery to be solved but time is running out. Banter and hidden pasts and tampered down feelings ensue. All within an entangled MMF Monster trio who fall into 🌶️ at strange times…in unconventional locations. I liked this and it was surprisingly poetic in places. Admittedly, it was longer than it needed to be. There are parts in the middle that dragged. That said, I would follow these guys easily into another mystery.
well, i don't know what i was expecting, but definitely not this (in a good way! this was an amazing read). it really surprised me and i loved the character growth and how their relationship builds up during the book.
This was spectacular! I love Vice's character work and how much depth and character growth they're able to fit in these stories. I also love the amount of lore and world building Vice is able to weave into the story from pretty early on without being an info-dump. We know the details we need to know for this story, but no real extra fluff is added in which really helped me focus on these characters and this story. The relationship development between the three characters was really interesting and I loved the aspect of having a lot of physical connection but really struggling to open up emotionally. Agony wasn't in the first novella so I wasn't sure how adding in a third would work out but Vice did a fantastic job of slowly bringing Agony into the already established relationship between Harbinger and Flint in a really believable way. The romantic suspense elements were a little weak for me and there were times where I almost forgot about it altogether. I think because the serial killer was in custody already and our characters were looking for evidence of his past crimes, that there wasn't as high of stakes as I would have liked in a romantic suspense book. That being said, the third act really picks up and shifts to being more focused on the serial killer case (which is also when the stakes get heightened as well).

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH.
Give me badass, lady boss corpse bride banshee. Give me grumpy protective hard-all-over ultra massive bodyguard gargoyle. Give me sultry, sexy ultra flirty shadow baby.
I've waited for this book since I've read Skin. Aveda Vice is such an amazing writer. I really love her writing style all the more because the book was incredibly well-written, and in third person POV, limited. Everything was incredible - from the plot, to the characters, the tone, the pacing, the smut - E V E R Y T H I N G.
I love me a good mystery/suspense which was constructed exceptionally in this book. Honestly. I'm speechless. I mean, it's neither a whodunit nor a howcatchem. So how did this detective-fiction-slash-thriller-monster/paranormal erotica did the impossible and kept me on my toes, in my bed at night tossing and turning in the middle of passing out due to lack of sleep? It was that engrossing.
The two main characters we've already met from Skin, Harbinger and Flint, tries to solve the crime done by an already known killer. Even as he was caught, there was still a lot of questions lurking around his abduction of the young girls who are still missing. And now their unknown location and the intent of their kidnapping.
Enter Agony, a literal night terror personified pulled out from the living breathing criminal. Harbin and Flint could barely keep up with each other's emotions and company before the inevitable happens and the both of them blow up, and now they must bring along Agony in the hopes that he'll help them unravel the twisted path the victims regrettably crossed.
Inextricably Tied was plot-driven with its well-constructed scenes that all served a purpose in the story. At the same time, there was such evident and valuable development of the characters and their relationship with one another that the book was also undoubtedly character-driven. The pacing was good, with no fillers at all. The story doesn’t linger in a particular scene unless it carries a vital information or detail, or unless it was used to further character progress.
The characters were very well-layered and multi-faceted. Each character also have their own voices, so very distinct and unique. The chemistry between the three were off the charts, even the newly-acquainted Agony fits right in with Harbin and Flint. Smut aside, the dynamic of Harbin, Flint, and Agony portrays a found family aspect, which was endearing.
Speaking of the smut… Hallelujah for that first chapter scene! I mean how many romance novels are there which, at the very first page, starts with a tumble in the sheets? Well, not literally sheets in particular in this book (more like leather, yeah), but you know what I mean. The climax (no pun - well, alright, pun intended) was intense. Everything I've ever hoped for and more. Okay, I'm talking about both the revelation of what really happened to the girls, and the culmination of the tension between the three, of course (which was insane, trust me).
I really appreciate the trigger warnings that the author included. This book wrecked me as much as it flew me high in the sky. So, just be wary of the content warnings.
Miss Aveda Vice, you've got me. Your backlist and all your future releases should be prepared - I'm going to attack them all until there's nothing left to consume.
This was a fun book! I liked the mystery that came with the case and how the three main characters had to work through their issues while searching for the missing girls.
The fact of the matter is that this is a horny book which really does not need to be great literature in order to do what it sets out to do (as the high ratings demonstrate) but I keep thinking about it and writing paragraphs in my head on how frustrated it made me because I think I would have loved this if it had been approx. 50% more well-thought-through. Also, this isn't the first book in the series, even though the front blurb says it is aside from a prequel novella, which they said isn't necessary, so there's swaths and swaths of worldbuilding that I was struggling to sort through because I was SUPPOSED to be able to read this as a standalone but that is just blatantly untrue. (I want to say that I don't blame the author for this but then I remembered that this is self-published, so, uh, maybe a bit?)
Anyway. I think the main problem is threefold: 1) Agony, 2) Binary Gender, 3) External Plot.
1) Agony is supposed to be terrifying. Extremely powerful. Untrustworthy to the max. Etc. I can't get enough of this, conceptually, but what's on the page is that he's a little shithead. Shrug emoji. He breaks out the night-terror powers a couple times and never really threatens Harbinger and Flint aside from the one time, when he doesn't even have his powers. The dynamic between Flint and Agony is extremely tired - overprotective stoic male figure VS flirty dangerous bad boy - and I can't accurately express how little chemistry there is between the two of them. The flip from Harbinger and Flint distrusting Agony to their loving/needing him is thiiiis close to being a literal flip of a switch from one page to the next, and it really undercuts a. how much this trust is supposed to mean and b. how dangerous Agony is supposed to be.
2) Binary Gender in what is ostensibly a queer book is so jarring to read about because why would I be reading queer romance if I want binary gender, riddle me this. Harbinger is the teeny skinny delicate fragile woman, Flint is the giant hulking burly tough man, blah blah blah, got it, Ali Hazelwood. When Agony enters the picture, it feels so telling that his romance is mostly with Harbinger, they're the ones who get the lion's share of the dynamic-building, Harbinger is the bridge where almost all of the men's attentions go. Again, the way that Flint and Agony have 0 non-antagonistic interactions that feel genuine, rather than the author trying to hurry past that part of the relationship dynamic, is... something. I was just annoyed, in general. I know that this is like, a #valid form of romance but it made me tired. Like the book wanted to have its cake and pie and ice cream and eat them all at once but only let the cake and pie touch a little bit because it's yucky otherwise.
3) The external plot is about (discussions of child abuse in spoiler) This makes the endless scenes of Harbinger, Flint, and Agony having snark and angst and sex whilst roadtripping and revisiting Harbinger's past feel... I don't know, disrespectful? It was just weird, tonally speaking. It's not like this is a lighthearted book or anything, far from it, but it's so very clearly intended to be mainly a smutty one that the frequent abandonment of such a serious plot felt. weird. I kept wanting to knock on their SUV/motel room window and go HEY THERE ARE SOME KIDS THAT NEED HELP? HELLO?
I'm still quite salty about this being labeled as a standalone when it so clearly is not but maybe I'll get over it and read the actual first book in the series. A few reviews have said that one's better anyway.
