Stockport, 1944.

Alice seems to have it all, but the truth is her marriage isn't as solid as it seems. Busy running her husband's family shop while he's at war, everything changes when she meets handsome Louis, fresh in from Guernsey with young evacuee twins Gabriela and Philip.

Factory heir Sophie is thrilled to be getting married - if only her mother her mother didn't disapprove! She's marrying for love, but her mother is convinced Tony is marrying for money. Is there more to her concern than Sophie realises?

Emily is tired of being pitied as the single friend. She's not averse to marriage but she's in no rush either! When she meets Italian prisoner-of-war Marco, she knows there can be no future. Her brother was killed in Dunkirk and her family would never accept an Italian.

A heartwarming and absorbing WW2 saga set in Stockport for fans of Rosie Archer, Maisie Thomas and Nancy Revell.

I was so looking forward to this book as it sounded like the perfect read for me but I was slightly disappointed. I found the story to be quite slow in certain parts which made me not pick the book up as much as I normally would, the storyline was good but not great. I enjoyed the characters but didn’t connect to them like I normally would, I’m glad I picked this up but I didn’t love it as I expected to which was a shame

Stockport is a town and borough in Greater Manchester, England. The River Goyt and Tame merge to create the River Mersey.
Most of the town is within the boundaries of the historic county of Cheshire, with the area north of the Mersey in the historic county of Lancashire. Stockport was at the centre of the country's hatting industry.
Dominating the western approaches to the town is Stockport Viaduct.
Stockport has the districts, suburbs, and towns of Bramhall, Davenport,Edgeley, Shaw Heath, Didsbury, the Four Heatons, Disley, and Knutsford to name a few.
In 1940, as part of an organised, partial, nautical evacuation, civilians from the Crown dependencies in the Channel Islands, primarily from Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark were evacuated to England during WWII. The evacuation occurred in phases, starting with schoolchildren, their teachers, and mother volunteers. The Islands and the British military began the evacuation following the Allies' loss in the Battle of France.
Stockport received at least 1500 refugees.Islanders were not shy in volunteering for Civil Defence.People in the North of England generally rallied to help the evacuees settle in.

1944 the Stockport girls, Sophie Morley, Alice Fairclough, Emily Browne all have a story to be told as we join them in Stockport in Cheshire, the war is still on going , this book was amazing, I loved reading about all the characters and their families and its far from plain sailing. The author has told yet another enchanting read that readers will love you just feel like your in there with them. I'm not giving any details away but just to be prepared for a lot of happy and sorrow all rolled into one. I highly recommend it to all saga readers out there. got my five star ratings. I again loved it.

I am so disappointed with this book. It sounded like it would be my ideal read but in reality I found it really long and drawn out. I was just a bit bored for quite a bit of it. Sophie irritated me so much. She was so judgemental and rude at times. I couldn't warm to her at all. I was glad when I eventually finished the book. Definitely not the most memorable historical fiction book I've read.

Thanks to Netgalley and Orion for the opportunity to read this Advance Reader's Copy.

Loved this book. I thought it might be depressing but actually found it to be quite light loved the three stories about the different girls.

Cute but the dialogue was a bit slow and simple. Some good turns in the plot. Overall a light cozy read.

A very enjoyable read, with such lovely characters Alice, Sophie and Emily with the difficulties they over come with their love lives. This is a well written book from Lilly Robbins, I found this a more enjoyable read than The Nightingales of Mersey Square.
