Bootcamp For Broken Hearts

Rate this book
A stunning Scottish castle, a tall dark stranger, and a vow to stay single happily ever after… what could go wrong?

Nora Brown is totally happy single. The men in her life have all been selfish, cheating liars and being alone is far easier than risking a broken heart again – for her and for her daughter. She’s only going to Romance Reboot – a posh ‘singles’ bootcamp’ at a castle in the Scottish Highlands – to keep her sister quiet.

But surrounded by tumbling waterfalls and sweet birdsong, Nora can’t deny she’s starting to relax. Even better, she finds another guest with no intention of finding love. Will Thomson has dark tousled hair, a sly grin, and a shocking sense of humour. Everybody else hears their laughter and thinks they’re falling for one another, but Nora knows she’s safe – he’s just here on a research trip.

Determined to ignore the spark between them, Nora agrees to be Will’s cover, fending off other suitors with private sniggers over wine and quite convincing public displays of affection. Just when she starts to question if she might be missing something important, she starts to suspect Will might be hiding something from her.

Will is just another cheater-in-the-making like all the others, isn’t he? Nora will go home to her daughter happy and single, just like she always intended. Even if she could find out the truth about him, she isn’t interested… is she?

Bookcamp for Broken Hearts warned my heart! This was a fun, witty and entertaining book that left me smiling.

Nora has been single for a long time. She has dealt with her fair share of liars and cheaters. She has been protecting her heart from being broken again. She is happy single. Nora has her fourteen-year-old daughter, her business, her friends, and her sister to keep her busy. But her friends and family would like to see her happy. After they try to fix Nora up repeatedly, Nora agrees to go to Romance Reboot - a singles bootcamp at a Scottish Castle in the Highlands.

This is where the magic happens!

What happens at Bootcamp stays at Bootcamp! Right!?!

Nora relaxes, goes to yoga, and even meets someone.

Will Thomson is handsome, witty and on a mission. He isn't looking for love - he is doing research.

Will and Nora both feel the spark and the exchanges between them are fun. I loved their witty banter and how they go along. Both are very likeable characters- heck, all the characters in this book are likeable characters! It's all about the journey and their journey was a fun one.

This proved to be a fast satisfying read! I did not want to put this book down, so I didn't!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

When Nora's friends and family to send her off to bootcamp for a romance reboot, she gets more than she bargained for. She is convinced that all she needs to be happy is herself and her 14 year old daughter Charlie. Who needs a man to be happy?

Nora went in with a clear head and thought she knew what she wanted from life. I really liked how her mind changed, and how she started to embrace what they were preaching. The humor really made this book and how she and Will had a really careless gantor going on while doing yoga and the different classes. I love any book set in Scotland, and this one really brought that setting to life. That ending brought it home, how the fates kept rooting! Overall I really enjoyed this fast paced book.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

Bootcamp for Broken Hearts was a fun and entertaining contemporary romance!

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this and thought the author Joanna Bolouri did a great job with the characters, dialogue, and plot.
I liked how Bolouri shows the reader how to be comfortable with being single and accepting the right time for love by showing us these things through the pitfalls and adventures of our main character, Nora Brown.

Nora has been single for years. In fact, she’s finally decided that she’s fine being single forever and wishes her sister Faith would quit fixing her up on blind dates.
She's a single mom and adores her 14-year-old daughter Charlie and enjoys being a small business owner for a café.

Nora’s sister Faith and business partner Victoria decide to give Nora a birthday gift of going to a singles bootcamp called Romance Reboot. It’s set in a castle in the Highlands of Scotland.

Nora doesn't want to do this bootcamp and thinks it's a waste of time but she also knows she needs a vacation. She finally relents and goes.

The week at the Romance Reboot has Nora looking at love, life, and friends differently. She meets a bunch of singles that are all unique and funny in their own ways. She also meets Will Thomson.

Will is an undercover author doing an article on this new trend of singles bootcamps. He’s funny, smart and has a great smile. Nora doesn’t stand a chance but Will isn't in the best head space for new love.

I loved the location of where this book was set and liked how the book progresses from the beginning of Nora’s life, during the singles bootcamp, and then when she goes home to Edinburgh.

I will definitely check out more books by Bolouri in the future!

Everyone just wants to be loved.

People who know me, are familiar with my dark and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor. If the main character of this book was real, she would be me; or I would be her.
Anyway, this book was laugh out loud funny, dripping with sarcasm and side-splitting moments.

She thinks she has it all; a cozy house, a job she likes (her own café), a bossy sister she adores, a first-rate best friend and a teenage daughter she would do anything for.

So what if there is no man in her life? So what if the man she loved left her for another woman? So what if she is undersexed (her words, not mine)?
Her solo date nights consist of wine, chocolates and movie or books. I mean who needs a man when you have those, right? Add Scotland as the setting and voila! you get to have the perfect night.

Oh, but her sister, her friend and her daughter have other plans in mind for her and those include sending her off to a six-day bootcamp retreat.
A romance reboot where even the most broken hearts can heal.
It’s exactly what she needs. It’s exactly what she doesn’t want.

She believes that her perfectly functioning heart is not in need of repair. She objects, they insist! Who could go against a gang of women bent on finding a dream date for them?

So, off she goes to this 'exclusive six-day romance bootcamp retreat', albeit reluctantly, to dump her old self and become aligned with the universe (whatever that means).

Looking for a fun read? Look no more -
This could be just the read you're looking for!
Nora Brown says she's happily single
But her sister, daughter and friend want her to mingle.

For her fortieth birthday they give her a treat
A stay in a castle should really be neat
But this is a 'bootcamp' for 'singles' so she's not sure
Just why she's there or what she's looking for!

Get ready for fun, connections and chances
As everyone there explores why they've failed at romances.
A wake up call, with yoga, talks and much more
As they're encouraged their expectations and life to explore.

Such a fun read, laugh out loud in parts
And others that will certainly warm up your heart.
There are great characters, surprise and laughter, too,
So I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to you.

For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review

Adorable story. Slow and a wee bit tedious to start, but well worth sticking with it after the first 25%. I love a book with fabulous one-liners. The Audible narration is good, but the narrator seems to get the character's Scottish and American accents mixed up.

Well this is just the perfect summer read. Nora is likeable, relatable and her cynicism at boot camp is thoroughly entertaining. Great ensemble of supporting characters, in Nora's home life and at the boot camp..
One particular speed dating scene had me cringing behind my kindle.
A sweet message of becoming your no1 champion and an empowering read also.
LOL funny, packed with awkward moments, and romance as a cherry on top. Blissful.

Well, to be honest, it was not a book I was expecting from Joanna Bolouri.
What I was expecting was a hilariously funny and filled with swearing relatable read. What I got, was a dragging on, like a chewing gum, story about meditating, yoga and visualisation. The plot was only built around the whole bootcamp idea and I had a feeling that it's not as important. I really had a feeling that I'm reading a kind of self - help book and not a fiction from one of the funniest authors ever.

The characters were not so bad. Nora was entertaining and down - to - earth and Will was sharp - witted. They were believable and were sharp observers of the reality.

It was a story about getting to know yourself better, about being positive, changes and filled with tons of self - help talk that eventually grew old, but in the end it felt flat and not as genuine as Bolouri's previous book, which is a real pity. Of course, as a Bookouture book it's being sold as "A totally perfect and hilarious romantic comedy". It's not. Sadly.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I have received this book by NetGalley and Bookouture, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. The Pub date of the book is July 6th, 2022. I will post this review on my Goodreads, Facebook page and Instagram.

I needed a good read and that's what I've got with this book. I laughed so much, and I couldn't stop reading.

Nora Brown is a very pleasant character, and we can relate to her almost all the way - still, there were some small things that I didn’t enjoy but nothing major. I guess it was just a *Me* thing. I adored that we've learned more about self-love and how powerful that could be. Trust and friendships. I kind of liked the other characters too, but I was more immersed in the story and journey than in the romance. Some good tips too, about relationships.

Another thing that made me a bit frustrated was how we got to the end. I was expecting something different. Something more. I guess it was that kind of endings that doesn’t work out for everyone but still can make sense to many of the readers.

It was my first book by this author, and I liked it very much. I'll be searching for more books about her.

If you want a funny and cute book, this is a very good choice.

I thought this book was going to be a funny and light book. It was a lot less light than I was expecting. It was witty and heartfelt. I love that this was about two people in their forties not only finding each other but finding themselves. As a mother, I can relate to sometimes feeling like that’s my whole identity. But I was a person with ideas and had fun before I had kids too. I also relate to meeting someone and just instantly clicking with them. Friends can be soulmates too.
I really really loved Nora as the main character. This is another romance book that is more about loving yourself before loving someone else. I appreciated a lot of the things said in this book. It had funny moments and it had soul searching moments. I really liked it… a lot more than I had anticipated. It takes place in Scotland so there is a little bit of different vocabulary and I wasn’t fully invested until she got to the Bootcamp but overall it was really good. I’m happy I randomly found this and took a chance on it.

It’s the classic single-mom-who-hasn’t-dated-much-since-her-ex-cheated-10-years-ago-so-her-friend-sister-and-daughter-send-her-to-relationship-bootcamp-where-she-may-or-may-not-find-true-love-but-hopefully-learns-to-love-herself-more trope 😜

I really enjoyed this story and actually laughed out loud a lot. Solid 5 stars from me! Excited to read more by this author!

Thank you Bookouture Audio for this alc. I was really excited what would happened to a camp like that. I was having fun listening to this audio. It was pleasant and enetaining. Second chance for broken hearts the title says all itself. It was quite obvious what would happen but it was well presented, not annoying for me but interesting. If I was reading I would say a page turner.

Nora is a forty-year old single mother who owns a slightly dated cafe in Edinburgh. After a series of disastrous relationships, including with her daughter Charlotte's father, she has given up on dating, concentrating on her daugher. Nora's sister and best friend/business partner conspire with her daughter to send her on a one-week Relationship Bootcamp to help her unlock her heart.

Although the other guests have paid £5,000 each for the privilege, Nora's stay is free, courtesy of one of her sister's clients. The bootcamp is just as awful as Nora fears, full of yoga, meditation, affirmative writing, etc. The other guests are well-dressed, well-coiffed, and (for the females) well made-up with just a hint of plastic surgery. There is some light at the end of the tunnel, one of the instructors, Brad, is so good looking he reduces Nora to a gibbering wreck with just a glance.

But underneath the mumbo-jumbo about the universe vibrating in tune with your desires, Nora starts to feel that there may be some truth in what the tutors are saying. But is she ready to take a chance again?

I've made this sound really boring and new age (and some of the psychobabble is) but actually this is very funny, especially when Nora finds a co-conspirator to laugh with at the weirder exercises they are forced to do. Really enjoyed this.

Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest reivew. This book is set to come out July 6!

I honestly struggled with this one. It felt like a delicious piece of steak but you had to chew for a while before swallowing. I couldn't connect to Eleanora and I didn't really find any humor. The bootcamp was fun to read while it was described and there were a few relationship tips that I found interesting. This didn't feel like a "hilarious romantic comedy".

The plot was slow and felt more like a relationship self help book at times. I think the problem is that I'm not the reader for this book and it's possibly geared towards an older crowd. Overall, it was a cute read but I personally had to work for it.

Nora is a single mother to daughter Charlie, age 14, and part owner of Cafe 12. Very soon, she is turning 40 and not looking forward to it. She and her best friend, Victoria are equal owners of the cafe. While it does good business, they feel it may need a makeover.

Nora’s sister, Faith, thinks she should do something very special to celebrate her upcoming birthday but she feels otherwise. She would be content to have a quiet evening at home on her own watching television. Ah, but Faith has other ideas.

Nora has no idea what to expect from this bootcamp and is skeptical of the sessions as they are announced. There are classes on expressing their in-depth feelings; yoga; meditation; and other new-age (sorry) nonsense. She often gets paired with Will, a man separated from his wife yet wanting to still be with her. These sessions are supposed to enlighten the attendees about their inner selves, their fears, and how others perceive them.

Some of this is humorous, some had me rolling my eyes, and one thing I learned is that I would never waste my money and my time to attend something like this. But there are people that would so that’s what the book is about. I’m sure that many readers will love this book. My favorite part is the humor. Enjoy.

Delightful. Inspiring. Witty. Hilarious. This was a cute inspirational story about our main character who has lived her life almost robotically (and seemingly unhappy) until she finally realizes that she too is worthy of love. She is awakened to the thought of living her own life and embracing new things and change (all the while continuing to be a great mother). I read it in a few short days. The slow build back and forth banter between our main character and her love interest was a big pull to reading this book so quickly. I loved the funny one-liners! The premise of a “bootcamp” for broken hearts was actually super cute and I felt transported to the location with how well the author painted the scenery image. There also weren’t any red flags in this book that irked me so that was nice. I would love for the author to write additional books to follow up with this one! I’ll definitely be giving her other novels a try.

“…there are compromises in relationships but taking someone’s needs into consideration doesn’t mean forgetting your own… Never sacrifice your joy to placate others and never expect someone to stop being themselves to appease you.” (Page 200)

Go read this—you won’t be disappointed! Overall Rating: 4/5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This exceeded all my expectations! I knew it was going to be good; it sounded good but it was so much more. It was fun, full of banter, a gorgeous romance and a lovely heartwarming story.

I adored the main character. Nora was so so likeable and you find you immediately warm up to her. She’s a single mum of Charlie, a fresh 40 year old and surrounded by people who think she needs to find love. A birthday present sees her travelling to a gorgeous castle for a ‘romance retreat’ and she is far from open to the experience.

She meets Will though, a fellow sceptic and an undercover journalist who is writing up his experience of the retreat. Neither of them take it seriously but along the way, they may find more than they initially signed up for…

This book made my heart happy. It made me smile, chuckle and laugh (and blush!). The writing is amazing and the audiobook I listened to was utterly brilliant. It really brought the book to life and added immensely to the experience of this book. I loved it!

Thank you to the author and publisher for this book on NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts and review.

I really adored this book! It is one of the best books I've read this year. I absolutely loved it, and highly recommend it.

The narrator was outstanding, and she was able to portray the different accents with ease. She is one of the best narrators I have ever listened to, and she has amazing talent. I loved her Scottish accent.

Nora is the main character in this story, and we get to see her being sent to a Scottish romance bootcamp, where she meets Will, a loveable and funny character, who Nora really warmed to. Nora and Will are fantastic together as friends, and I really loved their story. I also loved Nora's friends and her daughter Charlie, who is so cute.

The whole book made me laugh out loud so much. It is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I also loved the spiritual and energy healing aspect of the book, as that is a huge part of my life already, so it was nice to see that explored.

Overall, this is an amazing book, which I loved and adored, and I recommend it highly. It is a fantastic, feel good, uplifting summer holiday book, which will have you in hysterics throughout.

This is a book that will stay with me forever.

Many thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Os personagens sao otimos e o romance pqp que delicia
Mas o melhor de tudo foi o desenvolvimento dela, as coisas que a anna disse e o humor

3.5🌟 slowish start.

Not quite sure why I read this, was struggling to read after a week off and reviews were good. First chapter in and I was heavy relating to a 40 year old single woman:

‘Really? Wow. So, crying uncontrollably is out of the question as well then?’

I do have a social life, I think to myself. I just choose to socialise indoors, alone.

Was actually kinda sweet, although lowkey also self help for decidedly single ppl. Quick 3 hour read to cleanse the palette. Not sure if feeling more enthusiastic for the future or more like a mid 20’s 40 year old.

Nora is a single mum who hasn’t been dating, let alone in a relationship for a very long time. Her friends and family are concerned that she’s lonely and needs a kick to get some romance back in her life. Bring on ‘Romance Reboot’, a bootcamp for rich, single people that Nora’s sister has managed to get her a place on.

I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook, the narration is done really well. This is a 3.5 star read for me because I just couldn’t connect with Nora or Will (the MMC). The storyline is incredible and there is so much humour that really brings the story to life and feel more like something that could actually happen. My favourite part of the whole story is how Nora attacks life after leaving the bootcamp - this was the most relatable part of the whole story for me.

Overall, a great and heartwarming romance that will make you laugh. I recommend.

BOOTCAMP FOR BROKEN HEARTS
BY
JOANNA BOLOURI.

So many books are special for so many different reasons, but this one really blew me away and is so far my book of 2022.

Nora is a forty-year-old, Cardigan wearing, single mother. Her life is rather static and uneventful.
In a bid to help Nora shake things up, she is packed off to a five star bootcamp for the single and lonely.
A slightly sceptical Nora throws herself into the whole thing and surprises herself with the journey that she goes on.
What she doesn’t bargain for, is the curve ball that fate throws in, in the form of fellow bootcamper Will.
Will has his own agenda for the week and meeting someone who completely rocks his world was not in his plan, especially when his heart belongs to another.
However, fate has a funny way of intervening when it’s least expected.

I absolutely loved this book. I cried real tears and I laughed real laughs.
Joanna Bolouri has the sharpest wit and finds humour in the most everyday situations.
One minute this book will have you reaching for the Tenna Lady as you laugh so hard and then the next, your tears will be those of complete sympathy and understanding.
This book can turn on a sixpence. From utter hilarity to poignant and raw emotional insight that can be both heart breaking and uplifting.
If you have ever felt that you lost yourself along life’s way, you seriously need to read this book.

As always in Joanna’s books, there is a bit of fruity language and some rumpy-pumpy action going on. I’m not easily offended and for my money the language and nookie wasn’t excessive and actually added to the quality of the story.

Joanna Bolouri is a massive talent and deserves so much success.

Helen McAlpine should also receive huge credit for such excellent narration on the audiobook. She really captures the heart and emotion of the story.

This book is lively, insightful, hilarious, heart breaking, uplifting, pulse racingly flippin brilliant.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bootcamp for Broken Hearts is a fun and charming rom-com set in a Scottish castle, following Nora, who has zero interest in finding love. After enough nagging from her sister, she agrees to attend a “Romance Reboot” bootcamp, where participants are supposed to reconnect with love and relationships. Nora’s goal? Just survive the retreat and prove she’s perfectly happy being single. Enter Will, a journalist who’s only there for research, and suddenly, she has an ally in rolling her eyes at the whole thing. When the bootcamp activities start pairing them together, fake dating becomes the easiest way to make it through except, of course, feelings start getting in the way.

I really enjoyed the humor in this one. Joanna Bolouri has a great way of writing snappy dialogue, and Nora’s sarcasm kept me entertained. Will was a solid love interest..grumpy, skeptical, and a little broody, but their chemistry took a while to build. I was expecting more of an enemies-to-lovers vibe, but their relationship felt more like reluctant allies who slowly realize they actually like each other. It’s not a super fast-paced romance, but the buildup makes sense given the setting.

While the book leans into rom-com fun, there’s also a bit of depth, especially with Nora’s personal growth. The story isn’t just about her finding romance but also about her figuring out what she actually wants. The cast of side characters added a lot of personality, and the bootcamp setting itself made for some hilarious moments. I do think the fake dating aspect could’ve been pushed a little more, and if you’re looking for a super swoony, intense romance, this might not fully hit the mark. But if you enjoy witty banter, forced proximity, and rom-coms that don’t take themselves too seriously, this one is a fun, easy read.

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
