How can a planet capable of interstellar spaceflight use such an outdated method to pick the queen? It leaves everything up to the whims of the Alagan River.

Avania

No female in a hundred years has succeeded in plucking the red flower from the rushing water, a feat which guarantees her mating to the king.

I’m still dripping wet and shivering when I’m ripped from my mother’s arms and dragged to the palace. Within hours, the high priestess has performed the mating ceremony binding me to a male I’ve never met–the King.

I never dreamed the fierce ruler would treat me with such affection that he would crack open my heart… or set my body ablaze.

Valeris

The river may have picked her. I may be forced to mate her. But all the outmoded expectations of my ancestors can’t prevent me from banishing her to the East Wing once she presents me with a son.

How did the fates know this naive country female was more than my perfect match? She was the other half of my soul.

This sweet and sensual Cinderella retelling hits all the right notes from romance to spice. It features a happily ever after with no cheating and no cliffhanger.

This fascinating Sci-Fi alien fairytale novella might be a short quick-read but there is a lot of information packed into it and the storyline flowed smoothly, it drew my attention from the first page and kept me captivated until the last page was turned. Both of the main characters are strong-willed individuals and were slightly confrontational in the beginning of their relationship/marriage but as the time progressed they become emotional involved with each other and become a well-adjusted couple.
There is: A not too impressed new king (Valeris), a naïve but feisty 18yrs old female (Avania), a unusual tradition/ritual (Zaypien Day), fate, mates, humor, drama, intrigue, attitude issues, emotional turmoil, anger, defiance, distrust, threats, ultimatums, contemplation, undeniable chemistry, confrontation, well-meaning deceit, perseverance, seduction, some steam, contentment, love & a delightfully sweet epilogue with a happy conclusion.

Of course I love this book, I wrote it. Let me tell you why...

I thought you might be interested in how I got the idea for Valeris (which has been simmering in the back of my mind for three years). In my head, I kept seeing a picture of a river of flowers. On planet Ton'arr on a certain day, all the eligible young females wade into the river when millions of white blooms have been placed in the river at its source. Amongst all those flowers is one red bloom. Whichever young female plucks the red bloom from the river becomes the queen.

Of course, this is an Alana Khan book, after all, and our heroine hasn’t been lying in her bed eating bonbons and waiting for her king to rescue her. The King and his new Queen take some adjusting before they fall in love.

Still, this is such a sweetly romantic (and spicy) book, I thought you might be interested in how an author gets ideas for books. My ideas come in all shapes and sizes (usually I start by thinking of the hero). But in this book, it was the river of swirling flowers cascading throughout the kingdom with thousands of females dressed in white wading into the water to pluck one flower.

As opposed to most of my books which have villains and fight scenes and damaged heroes, I chose to write Valeris with a dreamy, magical, fairytale quality. In fact, it was only months after I wrote it that I realized it was an alien Cinderella retelling.

I hope you enjoy it.
Hugs,
Alana

Thank you for the ARC read,I voluntarily give this book an honest review. The ceremony It will be the making of will it be delightful whirlwind of a beautiful tale for future generations, after witnessing the battle of wills.  After all the beginning wasn't as thrilling for Avania was looking forward to, but having to pick a crimson pellum to mate the highest mate. Not even the honor of being with the new king, can take the place of her beloved freedom. Oh that is either fate or just bad luck thanks to Lucia, she now hold the very flower she dreaded finding. Valeris isn't prepared to rule much less mate, only fate has now tied their hands. Having Avania enter his life what was a burden, changes in as she opens his eye to something for more than just duty.

Oh I loved this book. I can’t even begin to describe how brilliant it is. I read it in one sitting, I found myself completely unable to put my kindle down until I had read the last word. It might not be the longest book but as always when Alana writes something it’s packed full of emotion, a brilliant story and plenty of steam.
Absolutely recommend this book which is no surprise because I haven’t read a book by Alana that I haven’t loved. Can’t wait to read the next book. Who’s turn will it be to find love? What adventures will they have on the way? Time will tell.

This is a great story that showcases two people that definitely weren't looking for love. I thought the act of plucking out a single red flower out of millions in a raging river was super fun and it really caught my attention. Valeris, though, held it with how he was so patient in taking time for them to learn each other. He was just so sweet. Avania was different than he expected and her knife, bow and sass certainly made her the perfect partner for him. Their chemistry sure sparked off the page ;) I enjoyed this unique 'fairy tale' spin of a romance and look forward to what's next by this author.

Loved this story! Super cute and helped to provide a little backstory about Zar’s parents. Great to read about their world and traditions.

A Gentle Love Story

The Zaypien Day Tradition has been going on for thousands of years on Valaris’s planet. Every year on Zapien Day millions of Pellum flowers are dumped into the Alagan River. All of them are white except for one crimson flower. Every girl that is 18 must participate in the hopes that one of them will get the crimson flower. If she does she is taken to the palace and married to one of the royalty or aristocrats.

Valaris became the new King when his parents were killed a year ago. He has just turned 24 and he must wed so if the crimson flower is picked he will wed the winner. He absolutely hates the tradition not wanting a river to pick out who he marries. He decides that he is going to try and get the tradition stopped now that he is King, it just won’t be in time to help him. Fortunately there hasn’t been a crimson flower picked from the river in 423 years so he is not too worried about it happening this year!

Avania is 18 this year and must participate in Zaypien Day. She absolutely hates the tradition and thinks it’s demeaning and barbaric. To be whisked away from your family and taken to the palace never to see them again is cruel to her. Unfortunately every mother hopes that her daughter picks the crimson flower so they can live the life of luxury. She drags her feet but her mother prevails and takes her to the river. There are so many women there hoping to get the flower she figures her chances are zero that it will be her, besides it has been 423 years since the crimison flower has been picked so she feels she is safe. When it is her turn to go in the river she and her friend both see a single crimson Pellum flower coming toward them. She reaches for a white one but just as her hand closes over the flower her friend falls trying to get the crimson one and pushes it into Avanias hand. She is horrified and is thinking about throwing it back in but everything has been caught on the vid screen so she is stuck. She is grabbed by the guards and taken to the Palace even though she is screaming to be allowed to see her mother before she leaves.

Valaris is horrified when he sees a girl get the crimson flower. How could this happen to him! Well, he will do his duty and when she is pregnant he will move her to another wing so he doesn’t have to see her again! Avania has other ideas!

Forced to wed, Avania decides that she isn’t going to sleep with Valaris just because everyone says she has to. She steals a knife at dinner, where Valaris hasn’t said one word to her, and when he crawls into bed that night she threatens him and tells him she is never letting him stick his thingy into her. She hopes he will send her back to her mother or at least kick her out. Even if he throws her in prison, that is better than being forced to mate with a rude stranger. Valaris is shocked that anyone, especially a female, would threaten the King! This forces him to take a closer look at the female he has been forced to wed. Will he decide that maybe being married to her won’t be as boring as he feared or will he just throw her in prison until she dies and go on with his royal life?

This is very touching story as two strangers find their way through anger and betrayal to love. Don’t miss it!

Once upon a time, there was a fair country maiden, , ,
Avania isn't looking forward to Zapien Day but it's mandatory. When she was little she used to dream of being the one who would pick the crimson flower. But that was a dream all youngling females had and now those dreams are long behind her. To her, it's archaic and no better then slavery.
With his fathers recent passing, Valeris is now king. He doesn't believe in this ridiculous custom of being told who to mate by the picking of a flower! He could end up with someone he doesn't even like. Fine! All he has to do is make sure she's with heir and he never has to deal with her again.
But, fate has other plans for these two.
Avania is sassy and spunky and I like her! She's a strong character with her own mind.
Valeris is understanding, kind and patient as he gets her to open up to him while they get to know each other and he is so romantic. After enlightening revelations, she finds out that "things" are pleasantly meant to come together just right. ;D
This isn't an insta-lust story but it does have romance and steam that leads to passion! We get to fall in love with them falling in love.
This one is like a magical fairy tale and I do recommend reading it.
Romantic. Entertaining. Steamy. HEA.

This was just Beautiful🔥🔥💖💖

This was a short beautiful story that had fairytale qualities that will have you sighing with longing and fill your heart with happiness. Avania and Valeris are both Ton'arr humanoid lion like aliens. There is a deep tradition of each 18 year old female catching a beautiful flower from the river and being chosen to marry. If she is lucky and catches the deep red bloom this year she'll marry a the King. Let's just say Avania has no desire to marry especially a king and feels this whole tradition is outdated. Valeris miles away at the palace feels the same way he's resentful and has plans to marry and leave his mate in a separate wing of the palace as soon as possible! Imagine the delight and surprise on both their parts as they get to know one another . Instead of resentment and bitterness respect, friendship and love blossoms between them. This was just a gorgeous story with a beautiful cast of characters and a mesmerizing love story! Highly recommend! Awesome read!💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥

Zar-Rynn’s parents - Great view of Ton’orr pre-coup

This can absolutely be read as a stand-alone, although who the characters are, their impact, pain, and importance to the Galaxy Guardians will be lost.

While the series as a whole has a lot of triggers, this origin story really only contains ‘forced’ mating, and even this is not anywhere near the same level. In this story, it is approached as a long-standing tradition and ‘opportunity’ for females. Then there are the expected actions of the female that picks the red flower to mate a highborn male. This year’s special because the male is the new King of Ton’orr. Neither the H/h was interested in taking a mate, and especially not one that they didn’t choose. Fortunately, fate was in play and united two soulmates.

I enjoyed getting a peak at what life was like on Ton’orr before the coup, learning more about Zar-Rynn’s parents.

This book was really amazing. I loved reading about the romance of Zar's parents. It was a really sweet and romantic and beautiful story. Who doesn't dream of meeting and falling in love in such an amazing way.

These two really were meant for each other. This is a story that I definitely recommend. It's a story of a love that was just meant to be.

The author took you on a romantic journey with Valeris and Avania and I loved the trip. Beautiful background story with a very special red flower and the meeting of two amazing characters. A definite must read.

I highly recommend this author, this book and this entire book series to anyone who loves syfy and romance stories. You will love every page of this book from beginning to end. Be sure to pick up a copy you will be very very glad that you did.

I loved this book! After reading some of Alana's darker books, this felt even more like a beautiful fairy tale. And I loved every page! Great world building. I absolutely loved the characters. Neither Valeris nor Avania are happy following the ancient tradition that forces them to mate, but it was the best thing that could have happened to either of them. I loved the flower picking ceremony that brought them together (so unique!). I really enjoyed that they took the time to get to know each other and appreciate and respect each other. Did I forget to mention their chemistry? *wink* Both were such wonderful characters and I just loved them. A quick, fun read. I recommend picking this one up! 5 stars.

One of my favorite books of this year and in general! How is it possible to write such a sweet chatecther, Valeris, and also make him the most sexy, hot thing ever? I read this in One go because I couldn't stop! Its so good, so heartwarming, so sexy, funny and with a sense of loyalty that just makes you read and read until you forget the real world! Amazing, if I could I would give you 20 stars! In the end I was so sad, because I knew what was coming Next... But the end was perfect we didn't get the "bad part of the story" that we already know after reading Zar-Rynn. The whole book left me with a smile on my face and a very happy heart.

OMG- what a beautiful story of a young couple falling in love. Valeris and Avania are forced to participate in Zayien Days where the river choses your mate. They are angry at having to be involved in these festivities. He's not ready to be King as well as have to mate and she is torn away from her freedom and her mother. But Valeris is willing to take time with their courtship so that they can learn about each other, spend time together and combine their lives. So tenderly told from both Avania and Valeris's point of view. This is not Alana's usual storytelling but what a wonderful, enthralling love story full of surprises, slow building steam and love.

Warm and slow

If you're expecting gladiators, space dogfights, or kidnapped maidens being tied to railroad tracks, this book will not fill those expectations.

'Valeris' is the story of a young country girl who is thrust into a marriage with the king of her world. Avania doesn't know about males or marriage, but she does know that no one is going to make her do something she doesn't want to do.
King Valeris, not happy with chance selecting his mate, finds himself quickly falling for Avania's warmth and honesty.
The magic that slowly enfolds them builds into a love that lasts a lifetime.

Can a centuries old custom provide recently crowned King Valeris with an appropriate mate? Reeling from the recent loss of his parents and unprepared for his role as king, Valeris find himself in the position of having his future determined by fate. Will fate get it right or will Valeris be saddled with additional unwanted demands? Great character development with emotions, strengths and fears on display, I was immediately captured by the story on page one.

I am an Alana Khan fan. I have to say this book is not her typical story. The characters are excellent as always. But this story is the best story that I have read so far. I enjoyed the customs she built into this world where two lion looking people are married against their wills before even meeting each other due to tradition. Valeris is the perfect suitor and I am halfway in love with him myself. I loved the story and I would highly recommend it.

This is a novella that centers on the parents of Zar, who you meet in the Zar-Rynn Galaxy Gladiator book. It might not have all the action from prior books, but it was a sweet insta-love romance that shows how the two character met when they were younger. It was a quick and sweet ready. Ready for the next one.

Valeris is such wonderful book. A Cinderella story with a female with backbone. Avania learns not just herself, but her new mate, Valeris. He was so patient with her and learns to love Avania, but is unprepared for the strength of the love. I loved is book, but I haven't read a book by Alana Khan I have not loved.

This was such a feel good book. A Cinderella retelling with quirks and twists that keep it fresh. I loved both the main characters. The relationship building is spot on and the heat level is perfect. No spoilers here, so I will just say I feel the book is well written and is on my reread list. Thanks again AK for an excellent fairytail!

Book nineteen in the Galaxy Gladiators Alien Abduction Romance Series. This tells how Valeris and Avania who are Zar’s parents met. A short well written story of two people who did not at first want to be together but found love anyway. The story was well worth reading and made a great addition to this series.

what a wonderful way to present Love

This story caught my interest, right away. To people not wanting to enter a traditional way to find a mate. But the guy is a smart one and gives it a chance. He was going to follow his advisor’s advice, but when she pulls a knife out and points it at him and proceeds to explain a few things. Well it was cute and I was hooked. Loved this book

I have to give this author a lot of credit. I don't like romance novels, and was specifically looking for really bad ones to roast on social media. This was... good?! The romance felt genuine and sweet, with both partners having actual personalities unlike so much other romance I've read.

Does this have anything at all to do with Cinderella? No. Do I care? No.

Valeris and Avania. Get married to someone you don’t know and didn’t choose? Yep. They start out indifferent to each other, Avania more standoffish than Valeris. But Valeris starts to see things about Avania that he likes and start to slowly romance her. And so their love story begins.

The heroine is a young, feisty, knife wielding, bow and arrow toting commoner. The hero is a young newly crowned king who hasn’t learned all he needs to fulfill this role. Neither wants to be mated. He will need great patience and persistence if he is to salvage this situation.
