A wonderful steamy addition to Rebecca Hefner’s vampire and slayer series. Darkrip, son of the Dark Lord has spent centuries fighting his dark urges that flow from his father’s blood. He swore to his mother that he would change his ways for her. Arderin, whose scenes of longing to live in the human world were some of my favorite, is a temptation and perhaps the key to his happiness. But of course, his evil father gets in the way, trapping them in a cave together and ordering them to produce super-poweful spawn he can use for his nefarious purposes… (cue evil music!) I LOVE this series for its complex world building, snark, hawt steamy scenes and wonderful characters. Darkrip and Arderin were delicious together! Rebecca Hefner writes wonderfully romantic, passionate paranormal romance, and I love that her books not only focus on the main couple we’re getting to watch fall in love in the current book, but we get to continue with the love stories of the couples from the previous books. Paranormal romance fans should check out these slayers and vamps as they find their true mates!

THE DARKNESS WITHIN continues the Etherya's Earth series and it is Darkrip and Arderin's turn. Now, if you've read the other books, which you really should have, you will know that sparks fly whenever these two are near. Is it really loathing or something else?

I honestly don't know where to start with this book. So many things. First of all, we see Miranda nearing the end of her pregnancy and feeling like a blue whale (her words, not mine). Nolan makes his move with Sadie - and I really need more from these two!!! Latimus and Lila show up, with adorable Jack. And we finally meet Evie.

But this story is also about Arderin and Darkrip. I would say more about Arderin, being as it's written mainly from her perspective. She is stubborn, feisty, and a virgin - something she finds intolerable. When a trip to the human world causes problems for them, things look dire for our two main characters. Of course, they don't die, that would be ridiculous as the book was only half over! They do behave in ways they didn't think they would though, and Darkrip is left wondering how Arderin can even look at him, whilst she is amazed by his strength of will.

Arderin knows what she wants and will do what she can to get it. She refuses to take no for an answer, and Darkrip really doesn't argue much at all, considering he wants exactly the same as she does.

As I've said, there are other stories interwoven with theirs, and I loved every word. This is a series not to be missed, and I highly recommend this book so long as you read it in order to get the full benefit. Another brilliant read.

I’m getting a little annoyed with this Goddess constantly punishing people for the actions of others. Darkrip was not responsible for the circumstances of his birth, yet he is punished. His sister Evie was conceived the same way but she was not. The Vampyres and Slayers were similarly punished for a war neither of them started. Either she can’t deal with the bad guy herself, or she’s also a bad guy. Maybe both. She’s alluded to history between them, so future books will shed more light hopefully.
However, there was less of the enemy in this book, which I appreciate. I still wish he’d die already, I feel the characters are entertaining enough to carry the series forward.
Arderin is brilliant, confident and a little entitled, secure in her place as King’s sister. She comes across friendly and thoughtful while also being demanding and diva-esq but this juxtaposition of character traits makes her incredibly entertaining to read and empathise with. Look up the word determined, and you’ll likely find her picture.
Or Darkrip, who is as determined to avoid her as she is to not avoid him. But as fate usually does, things don’t go according to either plan.
The events of this take place in the same time as the previous book and manages to not give away spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read it yet, which is impressive.
I liked how Arderin interprets Darkrip’s memories in a different light than he does, and how determined he is to still be a good person, despite the overwhelming evil in his blood and upbringing. He’s quickly become one of my favourite characters in the series.
The addition of Evie was good, it’s time we got to know more about her, and her claims she is far more evil than her brother. Reading her and Kenden will be interesting.

Audiobook review:

I have been looking forward to Darkrip and Arderin’s story and The Darkness Within delivered!!!

Darkrip has been a favorite character of mine since his introduction. I love his tortured, broody self and I couldn’t wait to see his attraction to Arderin grow. Also I’m a huge sucker for the enemies to lovers trope and that was basically their relationship in a nutshell!

Hefner does an incredible job of drawing out their struggle to accept their feelings for each other coupled with Darkrip’s evil side and Arderin’s stubbornness. And when they finally got together…I won’t spoil anything but let me just say this was my favorite sex scene Hefner has written so far!

The Darkness Within continues my love for the Etherya’s Earth series. This is such a great story and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

*I was given a free copy of the audiobook from BookFunnel and this is my honest, voluntary review.*

A virgin royal Vampyre and a half-daemon with a curse to always be sexually aroused seem like two polar opposites, but oddly they work.
This is the third book of the series and is darker and heavier, since we get a lot more knowledge on Darkrip's life and his struggle not only to remain on his good behavior, but also to come to terms with his feelings for Arderin, the sassy virgin Vampyre who just wants to get laid already...
It's a moving story and Darkrip is my favorite character of them all, even if I do have a little crush on all the boys and would love to be BFF with Miranda, Lila, Arderin and Sadie.
It is beautiful to witness the discovery of love in a heart that was thought to be dead.
A HEA page-turner heart-warming story definitely worth reading!
I received a free ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion

Audiobook Review

This is book 3 in the Etherya's Earth series and is best enjoyed in the series order.

This was a dark, steamy vampire romance.
Arderin is the princess of the Vampyre kingdom and her hatred towards Darkrip is quite apparent except her strong attraction towards him is out of character for her.

Darkrip is the son of the Dark Lord Crimeous and has never acquainted such a woman such as Arderin and has been enamored with her ever since he laid eyes on her.

But when both their lives are threatened, they will have to rely on eachother to make it out alive and give their attraction a shot at something more.

I absolutely love this series!!
The storyline was engaging and compelling and the narration was absolutely brilliant!

Upon finishing The Darkness Within I find that I am enamored with not just this book but with this series. Once again Rebecca has outdone herself, book 3 of the Etherya’s Earth series will not disappoint fans of the first two, I found it to be arousing and very entertaining, in other words, sexy, dark and full of surprises.

Needless to say I loved this book and highly recommend it, Rebecca has captured my mind with her imagination and I’m proud of her and to be a fan. Now if you will excuse me Evie is waiting for me in book 4. 😉

This book was AMAZING. So far, this one is totally my fav so far. Although I have a feeling that the fourth book is going to be excellent as well. There is something about Arderin that I really like. And I have always had a thing for bad boys and Darkrip definitely fits that role. And the narrator, again did an amazing job. He really does a good job with the female voices. This series is sooo amazing! I can't wait to start #4!!

This book was given to me at my request.(Thank you!!!) I am providing a voluntary and honest review.

The Darkness Within is definitely the most ominous of the series. The male antagonist Darkrip is a damaged being who always tries to do the right thing but is constantly in the shadow of who his father is. For a character so torn with who he is and what he can be it’s very enlightening to watch him become the character he is towards the end.
Arderin really comes into her own with this book, she shows Darkrip what happiness can look like and gives him the greatest gift of all which is love.
Rebecca really outdid herself with the level of feelings this book delivers, it’s a 10/10 read and one that deserves more than 5 stars!

Arderin was another story which I couldn’t wait to read, she is the sister of Heden, Sathan and Latimus, her eldest brother is overprotective and she feels like a caged bird , despite her being strong and fighting well herself. She wants to be a doctor in the human world and wants her own love, but the only one who sees her is Darkrip , what will happen, no spoilers here, but it’s amazing.

I would have to say this; as each book progresses the story gets better and better. I definitely enjoyed Darkrip and Arderin's story. For someone that sees himself as evil and not deserving of anything good in his life, he is so very wrong. Arderin keeps on telling him that he has so much goodness, and that he has suppressed his evil side for ten centuries.

DarkRip has his fathers blood running through his veins, he also has his beautiful mother’s blood too. His mother had been the beautiful Rina, the Queen of the Slayera, captured, tortured and abused by his father Crimeous, Dark Lord (Demon) DarkRip was the product of that unholy union. He’s always tried to balance his blood lust and violence, but coming from such an evil bloodline DarkRip has struggled.

But he’s given a new direction when he finds out about the Prophecy a sword will end his fathers reign of tyranny. And it will be wielded by a child with Slayera blood. In the first book Miranda tries, no luck, second book DarkRip tries, he too is unsuccessful, so now they have to persuade his other sister (and she’s not having any of it!) Now in between trying to kill his father and help find his sister he’s having thoughts of a certain princess! He knows he shouldn’t be so mean to her! But she she just brings out the worst in him! All he can do is think about her, but that will never happen, she hates him, he on the other hand is fascinated with her....

Arderin is sister to Heden, Sathan and Latimus, she loves her brothers dearly, but they are driving her crazy! Her eldest brother keeps her locked in a gilded cage! She can fight just as well as her brothers, but she wants to be a doctor, and going to the human world to study would help her immensely, but that’s never going to happen! And now that two of her brothers are bonded (mated) she has to watch all this love being thrown around! She’d like someone to look at her that way, but the only attention she’s getting at the moment is from DarkRip! Ugh!! No thanks, he’s just ..... NO!! Not happening!!

Aderin gets a chance at going to human world. And DarkRip gets a chance to look for his sister. Proving useful for Aderin, but useless they return to their world, but are captured by Crimeous! As the days turn into weeks, Aderin faces starvation (she needs blood to survive!)

This one was awesome, we’ve known of both these characters from the first book. The Acton is fast paced, the fight scenes are good. And watching both Aderin and DarkRip fight their feelings for one another was interesting.

And we get a twist that I didn’t see coming.....

I didn’t know how she was going to be able to convince me DarkRip was going to be a hero! But we have been watching him trying to aid his half sister Miranda in defeating his father. Fighting to be good, and doing the right thing.

I’m definitely ready for the next book in this fantastic series.

AUDIO REVIEW ADDED 23/3/2022

This book is my second favourite (but a close second) story in this series.
DarkRip and Arderin aren’t suppose to be together, in fact how this story works out was just a touch of genius.
Devon gives DarkRip that air of malice and loathing that he has for Arderin, but he also gives DarkRip an innocence that Reading doesn’t always give you. In fact when I read, I hear Devon’s voice 😉
Arderin is a feisty Vampyre that doesn’t really do authority and is a constant bane to her brothers.
There is hilarity, there is banter, and there is sadness.
And Devon delivers Rebecca’s story with such passion, I tend to listen to the audio for far to long😉

Alright I am happy right now! I finally reached Darkrip’s story in the series. How I love that Deamon so.
Darkrip has been cursed by the goddess for centuries, how can I put this…….by having an upright stake in his pants for eternity to remind him, he was birthed through rape and tortured. Always in pain and never finding rest. Well his life just got more complicated when he set his plan in motion to kill his father the Dark Lord and used Ardien to do it. Ardien the spoiled Vampyre Princess, who has a sassy mouth, high dramatics, and love to give her brothers heart attacks. Ardien wants to go into the human world and experience life and to become a doctor. When she needs a special formula and it’s in the human world and there's only one deamon for the job, they have to come together to help with both their missions. He is their to protect her but find out they have many hiccups that they have to overcome.

If you like paranormal romance and your not so traditional heroes and heroines then this series is for you. Rebecca Hefner series has action, romance, a whole lot of smack talk, and heartbreak in this series. She gives you everything you need in a story. This series has become one of my favorites and I could not put down this book. Even with Darkrip’s horrid past and his transgressions against women, you still have the need to cheer for him no matter what. When an author can proceed to write an evil character turned into a great man and actually feeling that he changed, well that my friends is an excellent storyteller. If you haven’t read this series or tried one of Hefner books please do. It will capture you and give you one hell of a ride.

This is book three of the Etherya’s Earth series and tells the story of Arderin, the sister of the Vampyre King Sathan, and Darkrip, the son of the Dark Lord Crimeous and his Slayer prisoner Rina. Darkrip was brought up to relish killing and torture, being tortured himself by his father if he showed any emotion. Fortunately he had a mother, who although a prisoner herself for decades and constantly raped and tortured by Crimeous, taught him about emotions and humanity. His mother Rina appeared to him after two centuries and long after her death, asking him to protect his sister Evie and to promise to live and follow his Slayer side that he got from her, not to continue to be evil like his father. He would have to hide his lack of evil from his father whilst also getting him to trust him, and wait centuries to allow his sister to live in the human world before he could see her again when the time was right. His mother gave up a life in the Passage, for an infinity of pain just to bring him this message and to get him to promise to be good. He spent eight centuries following her request, until he knocked out Arderin and sent her floating down the river in an act that started the end of the War of the Species. He fell for her that day and has been consumed by his desire, but knows it can never happen. He would never allow for any of his father’s blood to be passed onto a child. He also doesn’t believe himself to be good enough to deserve love from another!

Arderin has always wanted to be a doctor, learning all she could from their human doctor Nolan, who entered the ether trying to save Sathan and could never go home again, and Sadie, a badly burned Vampyre who because of her injuries could not be the surgeon she always wanted to be. She spent decades in the human realm, learning all she could about numerous different types of medical treatments and areas of medicine. Nolan and Sadie are the only trained medical people in the Vampyre and Slayer compounds and with all the changes now peace has almost been gained, more are needed. But King Sathan refuses to allow his little sister go to the human realm, as she would not be under his protection, and after being unable to save his parents as a child. Arderin is determined to go and frustrated at his orders, but finally manages to get an agreement to allow her to travel to get a serum to treat Sadie’s burns, after her and Nolan’s attempts weren’t fully successful. Sathan will only allow her to go if Darkrip accompanies her, before he sets of to try and locate his sister Evie in the human realm. Crimeous has still been attacking the various Vampyre and Slayer compounds, but hasn’t attacked for a while, so they have no idea what he is planning. Darkrip is not happy to be forced to accompany Arderin, especially since they will be in close proximity for a while, but will do anything to keep her safe.

Everything goes almost as planned, with just a slight hiccup as they break into the lab. Their real problems start as they re-enter the Immortal realm through the ether, to find their vehicle missing. They phone Sathan to let him know and Darkrip prepares to dematerialise and transport them to safety in Astaria, but something interrupts the journey and they find themselves inside a dark cave within the Daemon caves. They have been taken prisoner by Crimeous and he wants to force Darkrip to put a child into Arderin, bringing the bloodlines together to form an all-powerful being that Crimeous will train to be as evil as him! He has created a barrier that neither of them can penetrate, Arderin’s only hope is that Latimus will do everything to find her and save them. But her being a Vampyre means she needs Slayer blood every three days or she will die. They have no real supplies of food or water and Crimeous is content to leave them to it, believing his son’s intense feelings for her will prevail and he won’t be able to stop himself. Arderin knows she cannot survive without his blood, even if his father’s blood will cause her pain, whilst this mother’s blood will keep her alive for a wee bit longer. Darkrip won’t allow her to feed from him, until he can’t stand watching her decline any longer, but refuses to allow her to feed from his neck directly, as this will allow her to see all of his memories, including his painful and evil past, which he doesn’t want her to see. He believes she will despise him and hate even looking at him, once she sees his evil side. Their enforced closeness allows them to get ever more attracted to each other but Darkrip stands by his decision to not impregnate her, no matter what. Arderin is too determined to allow herself to die without taking her attraction to its end, even if she isn’t in her right mind as her life ebbs away and Darkrip tries his best to deny her. Another great love story in the midst of turmoil and danger, with a couple of very different characters brought together in a difficult situation and finding love, no matter how hard one of them tries to refuse to allow it to happen! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and watch other characters find their HEA. I received an ARC copy of this book and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Loved Aspects, Not Wild About Others

This author does a brilliant job crafting just the right initial scene that shows you in vivid detail the complexities of one main character, including their deep wound that will cause them much trouble in the rest of the book. She did that with book two of this series and now with this one. In this riveting opening scene, the hero’s dead mother comes to him in visitation—to now suffer in eternal torment because of it—pleading for him to act from the better side of his nature. In that scene, we understand the half-demon/half-slayer immortal he has been and his deep self-loathing because of it. At that moment, he does decide to be a better man. But throughout the book, he still grapples with self-loathing; he cannot understand how the heroine could feel anything for him other than revulsion—much like he feels toward himself—let alone love or want to build a family and life with him. So many parts of his story are so touching and sad; you can’t help but want him to break his self-imposed chains and love himself and allow the heroine in. The heroine drove me a little crazy at times. She is very impulsive, and as her brothers and even the heroes say, she can be a bit of a brat! But I like her sharp, intelligent mind and her compassionate spirit, not only for the hero and all that he’s suffered but also what puts her in danger in the first place, wanting to help a dear friend.

I like how in this closely interconnected series, we get to see how past couples are doing as well as get a glimpse of potential future couples. Miranda and her husband have a dynamic I enjoy watching whenever they show up—frankly, Miranda’s plain awesome any time!—and I adored the scenes with Latimus and Lila. I also like how there are minor side couples as well who won’t get their own full books, but we get to watch their blooming romances over the course of several. I loved watching the one between Sadie and Nolan start to blossom in this book, and I can’t wait to see how they continue in the next ones.

This book also has some amazing scenes. One that I absolutely loved was the testosterone-dripping one between the heroine's three royal Vampyre brothers and the man she loves. Let's just say her very protective older brothers aren't too happy about what transpired when they were trapped and its consequences! I also thought the section of the book where the hero and heroine are trapped was amazingly well done. It goes on for an extended period, but it really shows aspects of their characters and even their growth as characters. It helped their understanding of each other and sparked them as a couple.

While, in general, I enjoy books with steamy intimate scenes, I didn't like them in this book. I'm not a fan at all of any element of power play, and most of their scenes have that. Also not wild about the roughness, either. (Side note: I don’t don't understand why that’s a thing in intimate scenes in contemporary romance fiction. Surely, better ways must exist to show that the hero truly feels strongly for the heroine than rough, intimate play! It is way too cliched and more “ick” than “yum” for some readers) In fact, for me, this book would have been perfect if you excised the scenes (or toned them way down), making a perfectly lovely story of redemption, acceptance, and love. I listened to the audiobook version, so it's not so easy to skip past scenes you find distasteful. The language felt a bit repetitive at times and was even crude beyond the intimate scenes. Not a fan of that. I never heard the term “boning” again…it would be too soon!

The pacing of the book felt a little off to me. When the couple is trapped at the beginning of the book, it’s quite dramatic, with life and death hanging in the balance. After this episode, the rest of the book feels like a denouement...and there was still a lot of book left to go! I kept expecting more to happen after that beyond the romantic arc. It felt like there had to be some "something” happen with the hero's very evil demon father. I actually was surprised when the epilogue was suddenly announced. Something much more should have happened after their rescue than their back and forth of "will we, won't we" when they returned to the real world. However, I particularly enjoyed that epilogue, showing the couple 8 years in the future. Such a sweet moment for the couple! The hero certainly evolved into a wonderful immortal “man,” finally finding happiness and true contentment with his wife and family.

I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.

The Darkness Within by Rebecca Hefner is the emotionally charged third book in the Etherya's Earth series, and it may just be my favorite installment yet. This book weaves together intense emotional growth, sizzling chemistry, and a thrilling battle against dark forces, all wrapped in a passionate, enemies-to-lovers romance.

Arderin, princess of the Vampyre kingdom, is a character who stands out for her compassion and desire to make a difference in the world. Her heart is set on healing others, particularly through her work in the human world—a calling that her brother, King Sathan, can’t understand. Arderin’s struggles with her place in her kingdom are real and relatable, making her both strong and vulnerable. I found myself rooting for her throughout the entire book, especially as she navigates the challenges of being a woman ahead of her time.

Then there’s Darkrip, the son of the Dark Lord Crimeous, who is as complex and dark as his name suggests. Darkrip has spent years battling his inner demons and trying to control his violent nature. His initial relationship with Arderin is full of tension, from their history to the deep desire he’s always fought to suppress. Darkrip sees himself as unworthy of love, convinced that his bloodline makes him incapable of having a family or a normal life. His self-loathing and internal struggles make him an incredibly compelling antihero. Watching him slowly break down his walls to admit his feelings for Arderin was an emotional rollercoaster.

The chemistry between Arderin and Darkrip is undeniable, but what makes this book truly captivating is their personal journeys. The slow-burn tension, combined with their undeniable connection, is electric. Despite their feelings for each other, they are both convinced that they cannot be together due to their differences. As the plot unfolds, the stakes get higher, and their shared captivity forces them to confront their desires and fears head-on.

Hefner expertly weaves together the action and romance, with both characters battling external forces and their own inner darkness. The conflict with Darkrip's father, Crimeous, heightens the stakes and leads to some thrilling moments of danger and tension. As Arderin and Darkrip are pushed to their limits, they must rely on each other not only to survive but also to heal emotionally and spiritually.

What I loved most about The Darkness Within was its exploration of redemption and personal growth. Darkrip’s transformation from a tormented antihero to a man who is willing to fight for love and happiness is beautifully done. Arderin’s unwavering belief in him, despite his flaws, is inspiring. Their relationship evolves from one of distrust and tension into something that is healing for both of them.

This book is for anyone who loves a good redemption arc, especially one where the characters must confront their darkest fears and desires. The passion, the conflict, and the emotional depth of The Darkness Within will keep you glued to the pages. If you’ve been following the Etherya's Earth series, this is an absolute must-read, and if you haven’t started the series yet, you’re in for a thrilling ride. Hefner continues to deliver powerful characters, gripping plots, and intense romance, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!.

The Darkness Within is the third book in author Rebecca Hefner’s Etherya’s Earth series. If you’ve read my previous reviews on the first two books in this series, you already know I absolutely loved them. Ms. Hefner has a wonderful gift of telling a story and just when you think this is your favorite of the series, she brings you a new story and a new hero to drool over. Darkrip ranks up there as one of my all-time favorites!

Arderin is the sister of Sathan the Vampyre King. She longs to be a doctor, to have a purpose in her life. She’s extremely intelligent but yet her brothers seem to only focus on her dramatics.

Darkrip is the son of the Dark Lord. He is the half brother of Miranda the heroine from the first book. He’s tormented with nightmares of his father raping and torturing his mother.

Well if you’ve read the first two books in this series, you’ve met Darkrip and Arderin. If you haven’t you really need to read them! Darkrip and Arderin have played a major role in this series since book one when Darkrip pushed Arderin in the river to be found by his half-sister, Miranda. I absolutely loved the tension and the bickering between these two. They don't seem to like each other, but yet there is an awareness that you sense from the beginning, an undeniable energy between them. Darkrip is such a tortured soul, you just want him to see his worth and get over his past to gain happiness. As for Arderin, I really liked her. She may come off as stubborn and overdramatic to those around her at times, but she’s an intelligent, caring and determined young woman who wants what’s best for those she loves. I loved how she sees the good in Darkrip and tries to convince him he’s worthy of love.

Ms. Hefner has done it again with this story. I honestly couldn’t put it down! I loved Darkrip and Arderin and watching these two finally find a way to find happiness together.  Their epilogue was perfect and it made their story complete. I’ve truly enjoyed all the characters in this series and am anticipating the final book as we get closer to the final battle between Evie and her father. This was another fabulous book to add to this series and one of my personal favorites! Highly recommend both the book and the series!

It is very hard to fight against one's own nature, and even harder when the struggle is ongoing and the odds are overwhelming with no end in sight. When you have a goal and achieve it you get a breather, and then you can gather the strength to carry on. Champions are usually the product of talent and a lot of work, a sustained training with well-deserved breaks.

If you ask Darkrip, he would say that he is the embodiment of "there's no rest for the wicked", because he doesn't see himself as a victim of circumstances who managed to curb his urges and do what's right - his self-effacing is on a whole new level. Let me say, as an aside, that his story made me like Etherya even less, she seems to me to be vengeful and even petty, and it takes a lot for her to relent. She punished Lila by making her choose between a helpless child and her own future possibility to be a mother, she couldn't save Rina from Crimeous and then denied her a peaceful afterlife by asking a price for her contact with her son and she cursed Darkrip to so much torment and shame, to point out but a few of her failings. Not to mention she punished a whole race to be denied the sun for the actions of a single man, even if he was the king…

Yeah, I think Darkrip is special and deserves every bit of redemption he can get, so I must admit Ms. Hefner is a good writer to make me feel so strongly about him, and make me forgive Arderin her stubbornness for seeing him in his true light. The dynamic of their time in the cave kept me reading into the night, and there were some truly surprising twists to the story.
This series keeps being good, and I look forward to reading Evie's story.

The titles of all of Rebecca's books have always been very symbolic and this one doesn't disappoint. The Darkness Within kept me engrossed since the beginning. We first met Darkrip and Arderin in The End of Hatred and since then their respective stories have always been at the back of my mind, no matter what I was reading at the time.

Darkrip was so tortured because of his past actions and because of who his father was and felt that he wasn't worthy of love. Nothing could be farther from the truth. He used his rudeness towards Arderin as a defense mechanism whenever he felt things he shouldn't (according to him) towards her. But, Arderin never let him get away with it and that was one of the most admirable thing about her character. She kept him on his toes and fought for him with her everything. There were times when Darkrip crossed the line in making her hate him but Arderin never gave up.

Darkrip's transformation from before their captivity to after was astounding. Towards the end I thought he could give Latimus some serious competition in being the best book boyfriend. There was considerably less action in this book compared to the previous ones but Darkrip and Arderin were so different from all the others because of which I think it was important to focus more on their individual characters along with their love story and Rebecca portrayed that beautifully.

Throughout this book, we also get to see more of Sathan and Miranda's and Latimus and Lila's lives and how they are progressing forward. And, if you think Darkrip was a complex character, just wait for Evie. I am sure Kenden and Evie are going to be explosive together and I can't wait to read about them.

I suggest reader read this series in order as this story picks up where the previous story left off. I enjoyed this story this story more than I did the previous one. Arderin and Darkrip's story did not disappoint, and it definitely left me excited for the next story in this series. Arderin and Nolan are determined to find a healing treatment for Sadie but in order to get the medicine, Arderin must travel to the human world to take it. Darkrip needs to travel to the human world to find his sister Evie so she can help them with destroying their father. It seems like a simple plan to have Arderin and Darkrip travel together to do what they need then return home. However, things go wrong and Arderin and Darkrip's life depends on their survival, and their actions leads to life changing consequences for both of them. Their story was one with fantastic family and friends, enemies, threats, suspense, loss, love, surprises, steamy scenes, mentions of sensitive subject matter and an HFN as the threats are still there and its far from over. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. The one thing that bothered me in this story was when it came to Lila and Latimus, there was only the mentioned of Jack as their child but in the previous book it said that Lila and Latimus also kept the baby that was up for adoption. So, I was a little confused that the baby wasn't mentioned when regarding their family.

Awww typing through happy tears. That was perfect and my favourite of this series so far.
This was Arderin and Darkrips story and book 3 of Etheryas Earth series by Rebecca Hefner.
I already loved Darkrip from their previous books but I was worried I wouldn’t like temper tantrum throwing Arderin but she actually blew me away. Talk about resilient! She took everything Darkrip threw at her and laughed. He doesn’t believe he deserves happiness and does everything in his power to turn her away and she is like is like ‘that all you have’ The arguments this pair have are amazing! It really was their form of flirting.
He wants her but thinks she deserves better
as his Daemon blood from his father side worries him that he is more evil than good. He is also half Slayer and has been trying to be good for a while now following seeing his mum in a vision. His relationship with both his sisters is brilliant. He is such a good guy, the best but he just can’t see it.

The set up for Evie’s book is so exciting. That girls back story is seriously dark and we haven’t even scratched the surface.

Mentioning my favourite reality TV show vanderpump rules was funny.

Rebecca did an amazing job with this sassy steamy PNR and can’t wait to see Evie and the take down of the evil dark lord.

Top marks 5/5

The Darkness Within
Etherya's Earth, Book 3
By: Rebecca Hefner
Narrated by: Devon Wilcox

The series continues and it just keeps getting better! This is Darkrip and Arderin's story, and it has a little bit of everything. Their journey is not without the danger and craziness of the current world and it's even worse because of Darkrip's attempt to distance himself from Arderin. Put in a position where her life is on the line though, decisions have to be made, and it could change their course completely. This is an exciting story, not only for the romance, but the world building it creates. I love dark and broody Darkrip. He is carrying so much emotionally it's hard to break through his hard shell. Arderin is much more emotional, easy to read and we know what she wants. While a little entitled, we know her heart is in the right place. The mixture of demons, vampires and slayers keeps us on our toes! I cannot wait to learn more about Darkrip's sister Evie, her introduction has to lead us to more of their past and their vastly different personalities.

Devon Wilcox continues this series with his narration. His voice as Darkrip suits the character and helps to build his personality. He easily voices Arderin, her strength and positivity as she shines some light in the story. I enjoy his performances.

4 - 4.5 Stars

The Darkness Within is the third book in the Etherya's Earth series by new-to-me author, Rebecca Hefner.
Etherya’s Earth is a romantasy series that will pull you in and keep you avidly reading the whole way through. I picked up the first book in the series not really expecting much- but soon found myself devouring ALL seven instalments as I became well and truly hooked.
Each book in the series follows its own particular ‘couple’- so they can be read as standalones, if you wanted. But, having said that, there are interconnected elements, a recurring cast of characters, and other relevant details that all combine to build a much bigger picture-making it worth your time to read the all the books.
With vampires, slayers, tension, agendas, action, adventure, politics, drama, danger, chemistry, sizzle, emotion, paranormal & supernatural elements, war, good vs evil, suspense, mystery, quests, superb world building, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and much more- this series has a lot to offer.
The series consists of:
-The Dawn of Peace (Series Prequel)
-The End of Hatred (Book #1)
- The Elusive Sun (Book #2)
-The Darkness Within (Book #3)
-The Reluctant Savior (Book #4)
-The Impassioned Choice (Book #5)
-The Cryptic Prophecy (Book #6)
-The Diplomatic Heir (Book #7)

Happy Reading…

Thank you, Rebecca Hefner!

Excuse me while I fawn over Arderin! The vampyre princess is painted as a little bratty virgin but I love her. She is sassy and impulsive but smart and strong! She longs to be outside of her vampyre castle and visit the human world and experience things any 20-something girl would (although she's been that old a very long time lol). Darkrip is the son of the deamon lord Crimeous but also, Rena, the pure Slayer queen. So he has darness within, but also goodness. He promised his mother he would honor her bloodline and the goodness she represented. But he still knows he is dark. Needing help from his other half sister, he has to travel to the mortal world, and somehow Arderin finagles a trip with him, her brothers only agreeing after he agrees to protect her. The thing is, while he is dark and bad, he has had the hots for her for sometime but vowed to never act on it. But once they get trapped together in a cave, she decides to put that sass into high gear and does not want to die a virgin. He fights it hard then fear sets in, knowing her life will be in danger by his father. Will they escape? Will love win? I can't give any spoilers but will add its SLOW BURN but SOO WORTH THE WAIT. One of my favs of this series! #teamarderin

This book is an excellent continuation of a series I’m thoroughly enjoying. From the moment Darkrip and Arderin met, it was clear their love story was destined to unfold, and I couldn't wait for it. I never imagined I'd be cheering for a demon, but after learning about the unimaginable suffering Darkrip endured in his youth, I found myself rooting for him from the start.

What I loved most about this book was not just Darkrip and Arderin’s journey, but how it continues the stories of the other characters from earlier in the series. I’m so invested in everyone’s story, and it was great to see what’s been happening with them—Miranda’s baby, Nolan finally making a move on Sadie, and Latimus and Lila showing up with little Jack. These subplots blend seamlessly with Darkrip and Arderin’s path, enriching the overall narrative.

Rebecca Hefner does an amazing job of creating a world that pulls you in, and once again, Devon Wilcox is a fantastic narrator in the audiobook version. His performance is just as captivating as in the previous books. Without giving too much away, I’m completely hooked and can’t wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend it!

This is the third book in the Etherya's Earth series, a Paranormal Romance. It is better to listen to this series in order. Arderin and Darkrip's story is well written, and captivating. This is definitely my favorite book in the series. Arderin is a wonderful and refreshing character, intelligent, sassy, feisty, stubborn, strong, and caring. Darkrip is such an intriguing character, dark, and enigmatic. They are opposites attract, and they complement each other. They are both very interesting characters. I liked the slow burn romance, the banter, the humor, and the character developments in the story. The supporting characters are great, and they have an important part in the story. I loved to see again the characters from the first books in the series. Arderin's brothers Sathan, Latimus and Heden are handsome and protective. The world building is intricate, and grippingly captivating. Devon Wilcox did a great job with the narration. Darkrip’s sister Evie is an intriguing character, and I am looking forward to listening to her story in The Reluctant Savior, the next book in the series.

I’ve been intrigued by Darkrip from the start and he did not disappoint. I absolutely love his relationship with Miranda. Their whole sibling dynamic is amazing and shows how incredibly and inherently good he really is deep inside.

Arderin is a stubborn and strong-willed woman who has been kept in a “cage” by her brothers to protect her. Her explosive personality provides for an entertaining and drama-filled experience for everyone around her.

When Darkrip and Arderin are thrown together, the chemistry is off the charts! I love the rawness of their passion and the innocence of their relationship and love. I can’t decide if I prefer their love story over Miranda and Sathan’s. Maybe a close second. I do adore the intense love they have for each other and the journey it took for them to realize it! My heart is with them. (Especially Arderin who I related to on so many levels! She even sounds like me on my random drama moments!)

The third book in the series continues this wild and overwhelming rush of emotional attachments.
Arderin is well aware that the son of the Dark Lord is attracted to her as much as she is to him.
Darkrip is incapable of believing himself worthy of feeling and gentleness with his blood being too evil to accept it.
With the vampyre princess eager to tempt him and their lives becoming more intertwined, they must make some difficult decisions on the road ahead.

I was unsure of how I would take this particular couple as Darkrip is such a complicated character.
His conscience seems to battle within him and at times he loses control.
His story is devastating and yet it will force him into the reader's heart with its cruelty.
I adored some of the back story which paves the way for another romance that I'm so excited for.
Be prepared for tears, joy, pain, shock, evil and perseverance.
This author has changed the paranormal genre for me and every other example will pale in comparison.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

These characters are so intertwined all of their stories continue to grow with each one. This is Arderin’s story though and she finally puts her foot down and starts making choices she’s wanted. But like all fantasies, she faces her fair share of struggles along the way. We get to see more of Evie who’s been popping in and out of the story as we go so it was nice to have more of her. Darkrip also gets some surprises he isn’t equipped to handle. I enjoy the banter. I love that it’s all races and now all characters are perfect. Each struggles with their own demons and are all fighting to make some one around them lives better. I can’t wait to see if Arderin’s serum works!!! Will be getting the next book in my ears soon. The narrator remains the same and is quite consistent with his voices.

Ah! What a great book!

Lattie’s got to step up his game to compete with this bad boy!

This story is a beautiful tale of redemption, and not just for the main hero! This book beautifully illustrated how love can rebuild broken people into stronger versions of themselves.

The character development in this book was superb, with side characters also receiving some well-needed attention. The love was deep, the characters’ journey hard-travelled, and the spicy scenes were the hottest so far! Then to top it off, the hints at the next installment are enough to make you want to start book 4 immediately.

Absolutely fabulous book!

Trigger warning to take into account: rape, discussion of child abuse.

Note: this is the third book in the series and must be read as such.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance reader copy and voluntarily leave this honest review.
