Fans can get an early preview of the upcoming original graphic novel DC League of The Great Mxy-Up before it releases on May 17. Picking up immediately where the highly anticipated animated film DC League of Super-Pets leaves off, DC League of The Great Mxy-Up is written by Heath Corson (Justice League Action) with art by Bobby Timony (Monster Elementary). There is nothing the Super-Pets love more than spending time with their heroes, but are finding it difficult to be taken seriously as members of the team when their humans just don’t understand them. But when Mr. Mxyzptlk (a magical imp from the fifth dimension) arrives in Metropolis with a plan to wreak a little chaos and destruction, the Justice League are caught in his trap! The Super-Pets will need to come up with a plan to prevent Mxy’s mischief from destroying the city—while somehow trying to rescue their human counterparts. The only problem is, they may need to recruit their greatest enemy in order to defeat him.
Well, this is super-cute. I am not the target audience, though I appreciate a revived treatment of the super-pet characters. Great treat to have promotional publications like this, for Free Comic Book Day 2022. Recommended.
got this from AMC before seeing the movie lol this is only part of the full comic/graphic novel so I won't rate it, but I WILL highly recommend you see the movie bc it was fun and hilarious
Five stars as there were seven supers. I start to wonder if my pets were thinking like these Super Pets. I bought this because my dog stopped to recognize the dog in the cover. Inside is cool art and interesting story concept.
This was, hopefully, written for younger readers. In it we are introduced to various members of the Justice League and their pets. I have been reading comics for quite a long time and I can only admit to knowing two of these pets, named Krypto (Superman) and Ace (Batman). As well the 'pet' of the Green Lantern in this story (Jessica Cruz) was in fact a full member of the Green Lantern Corps, even if he does look like a chipmunk or a squirrel. The GL Corps had members from all over the universe after all. The main story is really just a lead-in for an upcoming graphic novel. It is not bad, with some amusing touches, but it isn't a full story. However this was on of the times at last year's Free Comic Book Day so I guess I shan't complain too much. One amusing touch is that The Flash's pet is a turtle. There is a second story that introduces us to a superhero called Primer. Her powers seem to be colour related. Truth be told this was a bit on the short end. Again it is a lead in to another graphic novel which I haven't read. Ah well. All in all this isn't a bad comic. More for younger readers I should think. Still it will amuse you in all likelihood. Happy reading.
In Metropolis, we meet Superman and his best friend, Krypto the Superdog. The two are playing fetch in the park when suddenly a plane begins to lose altitude.
Other hero and animal-hero duos we check in on:
Batman and Ace, the Bat-Hound Wonder Woman and PB, the Wonder Pig Green Lantern and Chip Aquaman and Keith, the rodent master of moisture Cyborg and Mark, the fuzzy flambé The Flash and Merton, Shell on Wheels
The pets join their peeps at the Hall of Justice, but they also want to be treated as equals.
The Primer sneak peek—surprisingly artistic colors and illustrations for a comic.
Ehhh, same as Batman's Mystery Case Book: I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. I just saw more benefit in the case book, as in it clearly was trying to get kids to think, while this just felt juvenile. I knew it was for kids going in, but some kids comics are more amusing than this.
Kids who love superheroes will probably love this, though, but this version of Ace never did it for me, as he's clearly based on the movie - and I didn't love the Super-Pets movie.
For kids, kids who will think less of their parents
You get what you pay for and your kids are going to remember this book when they put you in that van down by the river when your 60. The fact that Wonder Woman gets a pet pig as a side kick and a mount is pretty accurate.
Fun time reading. A great way to get kids to read without them thinking its a chore. Would definitely recommend to parents or teachers for their young kids.
