Cedella hasn't had the greatest luck, stuck in a dead-end job, grieving for her deceased mother, and haunted by a previous relationship. Monica, her closest friend, and Henry, her dog, are the only bright lights in her life, but things change when she finds a new job and meets the man of her dreams. That should be her happily ever after, right? Well, you were wrong; one thing that she’s learned about fate is that it has never been kind to her.
Khadine enjoys writing about strong female characters who have overcome adversity. She doesn't aim to make her characters perfect, since she believes that everyone has flaws to some degree. Khadine has always wanted to be an author, but it wasn't until lockdown that she decided to follow her hidden passion. Writing has helped her in a number of ways and has acted as a form of therapy. She values all comments and would like to thank everyone, even if it's just one person who enjoys the stories she creates.
The problem with girl/guy codes is that there is always cause for exceptions. Like falling in love. Another code that frequents exceptions is dating co-workers. I don't want to consider this combination in real life, but this author does exactly that. Strange how I enjoyed the romance while faulting Cedelia for bad choices. The heart wants what it wants but if you need a friend to cosign? Interesting storyline and I was pleased with the ending. This is my first read by this author and I thought this was a well written, easy going, light but engaging read.
I read this book in less than a day. I couldn't put it down. I love romances, and you don't get many set in the UK, so it's a lovely change. The book deals with themes such as abusive relationships, grief, friendship, mixed with the sweet romantic relationship between the two main characters. Cedella and Jason are so sweet together. Once in a lifetime love. I really enjoyed their story and can't wait to read the rest in the series.
