Dark Crisis from Joshua Williamson (The Flash) and Daniel Sampere (Injustice) has been in the making for 30 years and officially kicks off on FCBD with Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition. The Justice League is comics’ greatest super-team—made up of DC Comics’ legendary Super Heroes, they have saved the world countless times. No crisis was too much for them to handle...until now! The Justice League has been defeated by the Great Darkness and its army of DC’s most dangerous enemies—now a new generation of Super Heroes must rise to protect not only the Multiverse…but also the legacy of the DCU! Includes a preview and art from Dark Crisis #1 coming in June!
I just read my copy I got on FCBD last month and, surprisingly, I think it's pretty cool! I will give DC's latest "event" the benefit of the doubt, for now.
A great introduction to the the Dark Crisis as well as a quick summary and recap of Crisis past. If the series is a good as this Freeby I am more that happy. The book finishes not with a cover gallery but the adverts of the other Crisis books and a calendar or the coming Dark Crisis books starting as soon.
Mild appreciation for this free sampler, of yet another Crisis event. The new generation trope seems ok, and the writing and art are ok. These samplers are ok, but the year-to-year thing is not too different in this category of stories. Still, thanks to my local comics shop!
This is a introduction to an upcoming series coattailing off previous mega story lines from DC's past including the original crisis on infinite earth's from 1980's since then its been one mega event after another some good, some not so good but this one looks semi interesting I may check it out
These sample issues are supposed to get you excited about the new run of issues. This one just left me confused, as usual. DC assumes you’ve read every one of their multiverse stories when writing this. I haven’t, so I came away like a kid who didn’t do his homework before class. Artwork was nice though and to be fair, DC did the whole multiverse thing before Marvel
As an actual story, give this one a pass, but, if you're interested in the upcoming Dark Crisis event, this should be on your reading list (if nothing else for the checklist in the back)... and, hey, the price is right.
It seems like this FCBD Special Edition was only written to sale future comics. The storyline started out promising then got Dr Strange even though he's from Marvel not DC. I was really disappointed but it's not unexpected in this current industry.
Basically this is an introduction for DC's upcoming Dark Crisis event. It is a bit disjointed at times, mostly due to the fact that it is not a story in itself, but rather a lead-in to a larger story. If it is meant to get you interested in reading the upcoming Dark Crisis, then in my case it has succeeded. It starts out with a tour of the Hall of Justice and some kids theft of a Mother Box (don't ask because I have never quite figured out what one of those things is). We get a memorial for the Justice League, who are supposedly dead as well as the events leading up and continuing from Crisis on Infinite Earths. As well there is a listing of essential trade paperbacks on the last few pages. I will presume these are meant to help the newer reader understand things. Probably not a bad idea. If you are interested in Dark Crisis you might want to pick this up. If not then you can probably not bother. Happy reading
Some of these promo comics read like a pamphlet on oral hygiene. DC kind of shot itself in the foot with the Crisis story. It cleaned out the closet and got rid of a lot of dead wood but a lot of their choices for characters to keep. A bunch of writers who couldn't write figured it's easier to kill off a character rather than come up with a story line. Kind of broke a wall because now in every format all they do is kill off main characters, often two or three times.
Good color artworks. The dc universe is expanding and contracting on a yearly basis now. Like a repetitive big bang. The justice league is dead, new heros will appear. Follow the checklist at the back carefully.
This will be the worst crisis yet! This work will be the best writing to come. The artwork will be outstanding. Dark crisis is coming and the DC Multiverse won't be the same.
A perfectly fine offering for a free comic book. Seeing Flash kick some butt was cool as he has always been my favorite. This sets the stage for the upcoming crisis event and that's about it.
The DC universe will be reset, again. How long will this one last? Good artwork and it brought in a sense of growth and a promise for the future. Hopefully it can live up to its promise.
