A must-read for every Muslim, enlightened me on so many aspects of my soul that I didnt know. It has been transformational and I owe a lot to AlGhazali for what he produced in this book, its the kind of book that you have to apply and you cant just pass by without it changing something in you.
It took me around 3 weeks to finally finished reading this book. I could say it is hard for me to digest. Too straight forward with choices of words which felt like reading history textbooks. It is just not my kind of read but I wished someday to read something like this with a story-telling format that is easier to read and understand.
An enlightening book that portrays the nature of the soul and it is influenced by good or evil. The book ends with a sincere effort of al-Ghazali to guide the heart into larger and fuller life.
Not in the right headspace reading this even though I've left it for months and read a lot in between. I think my main issue is the writing style. There's a pompousness to it which left me turned off. I'm not sure if it's the translation but it's really hard to read.
Might revisit a few years down the road.
(edit)or maybe not. Would recommend Purification of the Heart by Hamza Yusuf instead).
It was an excellent piece of work created by the eminent Islamic philosopher, Al-Ghazali. Walter James Skellie had done a very good job translating this masterpiece. The language is easy to understand and very accessible to the public.
