He’s the hot, charming movie star that everyone craves. But what he needs is my protection.
My whole life, I’ve been training in martial arts, learning security protocols, and keeping my body strong. I was a bouncer at clubs and an overnight security guard, but in my heart, I’m just a small-town guy. Until recently, I haven’t had much to “protect” other than the chickens in my mother’s backyard.
Then Theo Castille crashed into my life—like the wild, beautiful shooting star he is.
Theo is a world-famous actor who gets more attention than any person could handle. He’s pretty and flirty, but on the inside, there’s something broken. When I learn that he’s being stalked by a dangerous man, all of my protective instincts kick in.
Theo hires me as his personal bodyguard, and for the first time, I feel useful. I’m by his side at all times. He can’t take care of himself, so I teach him how. He can’t sleep, so I sleep next to him.
But soon I’m addicted to being close to him. And when he kisses me, desires I’ve had for years come roaring to the surface.
I’d do anything to protect him.
But I’m not sure I can protect my own heart from falling in deep when Theo’s in my arms.
3.5 stars. I quite enjoyed this story. I was so curious about the course of a bodyguard and a movie star. Of course, I got some expectations based on previous books about bodyguards. It was just completely different from what I thought it would be.
Theo is a famous movie star with a stalker, he moves away from the big city to a small town, with the hope of rest and safety, away from his stalker and the paparazzi. In a bar, he meets Roman who doesn’t know who he is.
Roman got himself hired as a bodyguard and is surprised it’s Theo he’ll have to protect. Roman isn’t impressed by the star status, he likes Theo for the person he is inside and out, the man behind the walls. For Theo it’s a fresh breeze, being seen as a person and not a famous star.
Maybe Roman should be more professional and less a softie, I really expected more protection action, to see Roman’s martial arts skills like the blurb said, or some of Theo’s movie star celebrity things, that’s not what the story is about. Roman is also inexperienced with men, so prepare yourself for some firsts. He’s selfless, so focused on Theo’s well-being, it was super sweet.
The story is leisurely written, very comfortable, and with mild stress. It’s well focused on both men and their interactions, their conversations, it made all sense. Overall a lovely read.
I love these books with movie stars and bodyguards The book is very hot and sweet at the same time and the pinch of suspense gave the finishing touch in this love story between Theo and Roman This writer's books are always excellent and this one follows the same path I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
A sweet and endearing romance with loveable characters. Being new to this series, I was relieved The Bodyguard was a complete stand-alone read, with just enough history and setting that it was easy to figure out existing relationships. The relationship growth was wonderful to follow, and the low-angst plot was perfectly paced. A really lovely story.
I do so love this series. Heartwarming, small town romances with good storylines and wonderful characters. Here we have Roman, Brody's older brother (The Tight End), and Theo, a newcomer to town who is looking to escape his crazy stalker. Romans dream job is to be a bodyguard but their small town isn't exactly ripe with those job opportunities so his job as a campus security guard will have to do. Until Theo is finally pushed to the brink and looks to hire his own bodyguard. When he turns up for the interview, it turns out they had a moment a few nights before at Red's Tavern and made quite the connection. There's definitely a spark there between the two men, though it becomes paramount to Roman to keep Theo safe. I do enjoy the bodyguard trope as there's a forbiddenness to what they share, a line that isn't supposed to be crossed but Roman's caring nature is right that alongside his protective one and he can't ignore Theo's need to be cared for, in all ways. It's a bit of a slow burner which I think works really well for the story. It allows tension to amp up in both their relationship and the drama plot of the story. The stalker aspect of the book shines a light on the darker side of fame and the toll it can take on the victim's mental health. A really good story with a great relationship that slowly builds between the two men. Roman's family, especially his mother, are wonderfully entertaining and really welcome Theo into the family, even when he's just a famous movie star, not someone important to Roman. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
[I received a digital arc for an honest review] The Bodyguard is the 7th standalone in the Reds Tavern series by Raleigh Ruebins. After slightly being disappointed in the last book which to me didn't feel like a Reds Tavern book I am happy to say I really enjoyed this one. My attraction to Theo had to take a back seat. A far back seat. I was here to protect him. And that's what I was going to do.
Roman is a buff security guard with a heart of gold whose dream in life is to be a bodyguard. He's also sort of in the closet after having his heart crushed the first time he fell for a man. Theo Is it extremely famous actor who is pleasantly surprised that Roman has no idea who he is. They meet one night at Red's Tavern and Roman simply makes sure Theo gets home safely. Theo is hiding out in the small town to escape his stalker, but when it seems his stalker has followed him he decides he needs a bodyguard. When Roman shows up for the job, he gives it to him immediately. Even though they have an instant connection, Roman keeps things between them professional because he doesn't want to risk his dream job or his heart. But the closer they become, the more Roman realizes maybe it's a risk worth taking. I'd only known Theo for a short time, but already, I felt like I'd do anything that could make him happier.
Roman is the definition of a gentle giant. He is tall and built from all the martial arts and working out he does to stay in tip-top shape. But his insides are as soft as a marshmallow and he cares fiercely for those around him. He is an old soul with his lack of pop culture knowledge and dislike of technology. Roman is simply a sweetheart, and his insecurities of not being worthy enough for a man to fall in love with made me sad. Then we have Theo, I don't love celebrity characters, but he won me over. He has a bright, energetic personality, but his vulnerability and fear caused by his stalker is heartbreaking. They have a bit of a slow burn because Roman wants to keep things professional and even when they do get together it's a mild in the steam factor. "You," I said, pressing a kiss to his neck. "You are everything I wanted and didn't know I wanted."
I have to say how excited I was for the amount of time they spent at Red's Tavern, which shouldn't be something I have to comment on, but they only went to the bar like once in the last book. Lol Anyways, Roman and Theo spent so much time there that it made me happy. Overall, if you take out the stalker angle, the story itself is an easy read and low on angst. The Bodyguard by Raleigh Reuben was a great addition to the reds tavern series. A small town celebrity bodyguard romance with family, trust, chemistry, cuddles, farmers market trips and quality time at Red's Tavern.
I really love going back to Amberfield, Kansas every time a new Red’s Tavern book comes out and The Bodyguard was exactly the sweet story I’ve come to expect from this series! This book was low angst and full of celebrity/bodyguard love story goodness.
We met Roman Bryant in his brother Brody’s book, The Tight End, and I was so excited to read more about him! He’s a security guard on the college campus in Amberfield, but he has dreams of being so much more, using his extensive training to be a bodyguard. Roman is a protector to his core - always on the lookout for others, interested in keeping the people he loves safe and always going out of his way to help where he can. Even though his brother is out and proud, Roman is still figuring himself out and feeling drawn to Red’s Tavern and the beautiful man he meets there one night. When his dream job opens up in little old Amberfield, he jumps on the opportunity.
Theo Castille is one of the most famous actors in the world and he’s paying the price for his celebrity - he has a stalker and he drove him to hide away in Amberfield, the furthest place from LA that he can imagine. Even though it’s a new place, he’s determined to explore the area his grandfather grew up in and get back to feeling confident in himself. Theo doesn’t feel safe in his own home even with all of the security measures he put in place and finds himself in need of a bodyguard. Little does he know that the man who took him home from the bar and didn’t recognize him would end up being his choice for the job.
Roman and Theo shared a scorching kiss the first night they met and then started working together. But that didn’t put a damper on the chemistry between them. Even when they weren’t romantically connected, you could feel the bond there and the longing to be close to one another. I loved all the time they spent together with Roman’s mom and how seamlessly Roman fit into Theo’s Hollywood lifestyle, especially when he felt comfortable enough to point out that Theo deserved to be treated better. They were a little steamy and definitely a whole lot in love with each other and it showed.
I do have to say that I felt like the stalker storyline needed a little more fleshing out. It felt like it was resolved really quickly and only popped up conveniently throughout the story to drive Roman and Theo together. I also wanted more from the ending. It felt like an abrupt finish and left me a little underwhelmed.
Overall, this was a sweet story with a cute couple and HEA. Can’t wait to read the next book in the Red’s Tavern series…hopefully about Jack (fingers crossed)!
Theo and Roman's story was a little steamy, but really a genuine connection. There was an attraction from the moment they met, but then they took it slow. I liked the fact that Roman had to be a protector against a crazy stalker, so there was a little suspense and action, too. I love Roman's little turtle, and how much Theo loved Roman's mom. And how of course he was most comfortable at Red's Tavern! Poor Theo struggled to think anyone would want to put up with his crazy life and Roman was hesitant after being burned in the past. They were sweet together, and made one another stronger.
Set around Red's Tavern, The Boyguard is a sweet low angst, lower heat story. After their initial meeting and scorching kiss, their chemistry bubbles away until later in the book in a lovely slow burn. I really liked Roman as a character but he does seem to have some discomfort with his bisexuality, seeing himself as less valid than his brother. I've read all of the series but this does work as a standalone. I'd advise at least reading The Tight End first because Roman features in that book. Despite the dtalker storyline, the book is low in drama. It's just a sweet, enjoyable read.
RTC but this was a very sweet and low angst book and I really enjoyed it. I wanted a little more of everythimg but a still had a good time reading this book and it was very cute.
I received an arc of this book, and this is my honest opinion
When the worry over stalkers is lessened to just enjoy Red's Tavern, family, friends, and the discovery of each other, Roman chooses his natural caring instinct to help Theo to overcome his fears.
Fame, fortune, and a Roman holiday of love together with Theo is a powerful trick to make the stalker reveal himself as his twisted mind locks on the security systems with psychological warfare and scary notes recording his unwanted presence of fear and things to come.
3.5 stars, rounding up - This was just a cute opposites attract/famous actor needs a bodyguard story. Some might say the stalker aspect needed to be played up more, but I was fine with it mainly existing to create the impetus for their meeting and forced proximity. I loved the parts where they were at Roman's mom's house--I do love when one character who doesn't have a lot of family or is a loner is basically adopted by the other character's family.
I’m a sucker for bodyguard stories, but I felt this book started strong and ended weak.
The beginning is pretty good. We get some action, some romance, some tension.
But from the middle to the end, everything just felt stale and boring.
Even the stalker storyline wasn’t really a thing by the end of the book, and I swear the author purposely wrapped up that plot with the least amount of details possible.
It just didn’t make sense at all.
This had good bones but ultimately disappointed me. I was rushing to finish so I could move on.
This is Roman. Roman is Brody's older brother, and he's also a security guard on the KMU campus while waiting for his dream job, which is a personal security detail somewhere. He's also keeping a pretty big secret: he's bi.
He's at Red's Tavern yet again, intending on talking to and maybe flirting with a hot guy. Instead he finds a very DRUNK guy, who just about literally falls into his lap. The guy begs him not to call a taxi and instead begs Roman to take him home. Roman agrees, even though he's confused, since Red and Sam and everyone else in the bar seems to know who this guy is.
Roman goes back to his normal life, but he can't stop thinking about this hot guy. The hot guy is actually Theo Castille, one of the hottest actors in the world. He also has a stalker who followed him from LA to Paris. After that, Theo decides to move to Amberfield, figuring he'd be safe in the middle of nowhere.
But of course, the stalker surfaces in Amberfield, so Theo caves and puts out a listing for a bodyguard. Guess who applies? You got it, our big burly security guard, Roman. When the two see each other again, sparks fly. Roman is shocked that the mysterious drunk is a famous actor, but immediately goes into protection mode. Theo is scared to death, and Roman wants nothing more than to take that fear away.
When things get hot and heavy between them, Roman can hardly believe his luck. But he's also scared. The only time he's ever shown interest in another man it ended in betrayal. Can he really trust that this beautiful, rich, famous man really wants to be with HIM?
I love bodyguard/client stories so much, and this was no exception. So fun, so sexy, I love when the bodyguard gets all protective and possessive.
Roman's trained in martial arts, he's been a bouncer and a security guard but deep down he's a small-town guy. When Theo crashes into his life everything changes. Theo is a famous actor, when he gets a stalker who won't leave him alone, he hires Roman as a bodyguard. Roman finally feels useful as all his protective instincts kick in and his need to protect and make sure Theo is alright becomes his number one priority. So when Theo can't sleep Roman, sleeps beside him, he takes care of him and it's not long before Roman is worried he won't be able to protect his own heart, not while he has Theo in his arms.
Another addition to an amazing series, The Bodyguard is the seventh book in the Red's Tavern Series. I really enjoyed this sweet, low angst book. I found the characters to be really great, likeable and amazing. The story was very character centred. I particularly liked the fact there were no insecurities between the two characters in regard to their financial differences. I found these two characters were really cute are perfect together. The story was overall really great, cute and a brilliant read.
I really enjoy this author's writing style and I am yet to find a book by this author that I haven't fallen in love with. I found the pacing of the book to be really good, the plot flowed well, was easy to follow, and kept me engaged and needing to read on.
Overall another great book, by a great author and I, can't wait to see what comes next.
DNF chapter 16 (68%). Sigh. I can’t believe I’m DNFing this, but I put it down about two weeks ago and haven’t wanted to pick it back up.
I LOVE the bodyguard trope, especially when the one being protected/guarded is a celebrity with a stalker🤩😁. It’s like my catnip, so I was really excited to give this a try. Things started out good! I was invested and liked the writing, MCs, story, suspense, and drama. I thought I had finally found myself a winner after so many DNFs and just-ok reads. But unfortunately, as I continued to read, I began to lose interest and feel a disconnect, especially toward Roman’s character. Roman was a little too dull for me. I was expecting more. Idk🤔.
Overall, things felt a little too shallow and underdeveloped for me. I was left wanting more depth, more emotion, more suspense, more action, more chemistry, just more. Also, ngl Roman was not a very good bodyguard😬. Something about him just rubbed me the wrong way, and I can’t put my finger on it. He gave me creepy robot vibes🤣; like no personality. Plus, I didn’t feel the connection between him and Theo like I wanted to; it was lacking. And after the first sex scene, that kind of solidified my disinterest and feelings of meh🫤. Didn’t care enough to continue.
I’ve found the more I read, the more often I struggle to get into books and the more often I end up DNFing books. Idk what my problem is😭, because I really wanted to like this. I mean, I did like it, just not enough to continue reading. Stupid reading slump😩. I may come back to this eventually.
This was my first book by Raleigh Ruebins and I enjoyed it so much that I plan on checking out their other books, specifically those in the Reds Tavern world so I can learn about all the characters I met in this one. This book was sweet with enough background plot that it didn’t feel too cutesy, though I do wish the stalker drama had been explained more. I liked the MC’s and though there is a little relationship drama due to not communicating, this book is very low relationship angst. I loved that Roman was so protective of Theo and made him feel loved and treasured and Theo made Roman realize he is desirable and lovable.
My only issues with the book were the random mentions of things that we never actually got to see on page that seemed like they would be important. Theo’s grandfather and his travels in Kansas seemed like they were going to play a bigger part than they did, Roman mentioned training Theo in self-defense and to my knowledge, this never happens, there were some steamy things mentioned/suggested that never happened on page, etc. It just made me feel like things were missing from the book. I also wanted more from the ending because I felt like we didn't get everything answered and it was a bit abrupt. Is Roman still Theo's bodyguard or what is he doing for a job now? Do they live together or is Roman just at Theo's a lot?
📸Fame: pluses and minuses for building a lasting relationship
Good storyline. Because of the famous actor he is compared to at the start of the book, it was easier for me to visualize Theo, the gay celebrity who shows up in Kansas and gets security guard Roman's protective juices flowing. I liked that. Too many times I read a story and find it hard to imagine what the characters look like.
The stalker subplot and Roman's long history of hiding his attraction to men after a bad experience years before made for an interesting time until the guys got to know each other and got intimate. Yes, there's some drama, but I would not say the angst level was that elevated, just two guys from very different worlds hoping to find their someone and make it work!
Another enjoyable addition to Ruebins's Red's Tavern series. Established characters in the series make appearances here on occasion, particularly Red's bartender Sam and Roman's brother Brody and his boyfriend who were the leads in the previous book. I think I've read them all and will come back for more if the author continues the series.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
This is a pretty typical bodyguard story. (I'd not read any other books and you don't need to). Roman lives in small town Kansas, always with dreams of being a bodyguard but not wanting to live in the city contents himself with being a security guard but training. He's admitted to himself he's bi, but not to anyone else. He meets a gorgeous drunk guy in the bar and helps him home, only much later finding out he's a SUPERSTAR (30 years old with 2 Oscars, an Emmy and god knows what else). Of course Theo has a stalker and finally decides to hire a bodyguard. Roman applies on a whim but once Theo sees him, he's in. Of course there is the usual dancing around and saying that in order to focus on protecting him, they can't be involved and Theo actually respects that and it lasts for a bit. Of course they catch the stalker and live HEA.
I did enjoy that Theo felt most at home in Roman's mom's small house where after the initial shock he was just a friend and that Roman made sure he knew he was more than just a pretty face. I did find Roman's verbosity during sex (or foreplay) later in the book a little weird considerig his personality and kind of took me aback but on the whole, but if you want the bodyguard/client book it was a nice easy read. Just kind of standard for me.
Theo Caville is and actor and scared out of his mind for a year he's been stalked he's had enough and come to a small town in Kansas were his Grandfather was from hoping to be left alone away from the limelight and his crazy stalker what he finds is true friends and a romance he never thought he could have with someone who just saw him not the Hollywood fame. Roman is going threw the motions of his daily life as a security guard at the college his brother recently graduated from and trying to figure out is it to late to come out can he trust anyone with his heart after a disaster when he was younger and is he ever going to have his dream job of being a bodyguard. Is there love ment to be and can Roman stop Theos crazy stalker before its to late.
So this probably wasn't my favorite book in the series but it's mostly because I like Roman but and a list actor Theo showing up in a small town running from a stalker seemed way different from the other story's too serious the other books seemed more laid back so it didn't feel like it fit with the rest of the series and the build up to the stalker seemed rushed so im giving this book 3.4 stars.
Roman has been working as a security guard but he really wants to become a bodyguard but so far the opportunities have not presented themselves. Until Theo, a famous actor, comes along and finds himself in need of protection. Theo has a stalker. Roman is excited that he gets to finally do what he has been preparing for so despite the fact that they feel an instant connection he tries hard to keep it professional. However, Theo needs Roman, not just his protection skills. That brings them closer together than just their client/bodyguard relationship. Their proximity also allows them to get to know one another, gives Roman a chance to see what a relationship with a man encompasses and them a chance to see if they fit into one another's lives for longer than Theo's need for protection. I liked these guys together because it is clear that they see one another and that helps them build a good connection beyond their chemistry. I liked that the story was really about them and their developing relationship and was not overwhelmed with the stalking storyline. I received an ARC from GRR for an honest review.
I have loved every single book in this series! I think I could read this series over and over again and never get bored. Theo and Roman’s story was so steamy but their connection was so real and intense you could feel it through the pages. I fell in love with Theo and Roman from the beginning. They had the initial attraction to one another and then things slowly progressed and blossomed from there. Roman was so protective of Theo and was determined to not let anything happen to him. They had amazing chemistry and I loved the way they connected. This books as full of steam, sweetness, humor and of course the amazingness that is Red’s Tavern. I devoured this book in one sitting and Ill definitely be doing a revisit to this whole series very very soon!
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
POV: 1st Person Dual POV
Standalone or series: Book 7 in the Red’s Tavern series
Would I recommend it: 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommend!! 🤩
An opportunity to return to Amberfield and Red's Tavern, there was no way I was passing up on this book, and it didn't disappoint in the slightest. It was everything I expected from having read the earlier books in the series. It was a sweet country town romance, where the characters fall hard and fast with some drama but low angst.
Roman appeared in an earlier book, The Tight End, as the main character's older brother, and now it's his turn to find love. Theo is a movie star, hiding out in small-town Kanas, although he can't escape his celebrity status or the drama that comes with it. They first met at Red's, Roman driving Theo home after he has drunk too much, totally oblivious to the fact he has a movie star in his truck. It doesn't take long for him to find out and learn more about what has Theo so afraid, when he is engaged as his personal bodyguard.
The Bodyguard could easily be read as a standalone, but sooooo much better when you know the other characters' stories.
Although this is book 7 in the Red's Tavern series, it can comfortably read as a standalone. The common link is simply Red's bar where we get some mention of previous character's from the series but nothing that complicates the reading of this book. I thought that Theo was such a great character - he was vulnerable, funny, brave and determined. Roman was a complete sweetheart and so protective from the outset. Together they fit really well and had good chemistry throughout. This was what I'd call a comfortable mm romance; the angst wasn't massively overdone and really, although the stalker issue was what brought them together, it was more about them building a relationship and growing in confidence. I loved all the secondary characters that were brought in, especially Roman's mum (who was hilarious).
Overall, this is a good MM romance with a sweet HEA. I'd definitely recommend it to those who enjoy this genre.
Although The Bodyguard is the 7th book in Red's Tavern series, I was able to read it as a standalone without having read the other books in the series. The link between the series being Red's Tavern (I think). I did meet other couples at the Tavern, who I assume were in previous books, but this is not distract from the story.
Roman is a small town security guard, turned bodyguard for one of the hottest actors (on and off the screen) in Hollywood. However, being a man who doesn't watch a lot of tv nor movies, he had no idea who Theo was when they first met at Red's Tavern. Theo is a big name Hollywood actor, hiding out in a small town from a stalker. After one too many scares, his assistant insist he gets a bodyguard.
What I enjoyed in The Bodyguard was the connection between the MCs. It was genuine and beautiful with the story focusing mostly on the relationship between Roman and Theo. Yes, there was the issue with Theo's stalker, but to me, that was the catalyst that brought them together, not the plot of the story. If you enjoy sweet, smexy, stories with little to no angst, then I would definitely recommend this book.
This is one of those books where I picked it up without reading the prior ones, and the author managed to get me hooked enough that I plan on going back to check out the rest of the series.
This book was the perfect mixture of chemistry, action, and plot. I'm a big fan of both characters having a little bit of reluctance to get into the relationship so the burn is a little slower than it would be otherwise. Honestly, it was just really enjoyable to watch Roman and Theo work toward their HEA.
I'm always a big fan of books with a protective main character, so this hit all the right notes for me. It was a one-sitdown reading for me. I can't wait to delve into the rest of the series that I missed out on and then come back to this one to see what I missed picking up on!
I really enjoyed the authors writing style. It was engaging and smooth for me as a reader, which is always a plus. Overall, I'm really glad I picked this book up.
