With the misunderstanding surrounding Ranger Captain Ben Gibson’s marriage to the local Va’Shen high priestess, Alacea, finally cleared up, relations between the Rangers and the local occupied alien village have never been better. Because of this, Alacea believes it’s the perfect time for the two of them to move to the next logical stage of their relationship: having a baby. For Gibson, this means one thing.

He needs to get out of town. Now.

Fortunately, he has the perfect reason to do so. Alacea has asked him to try to find out on what planet the village’s commandos were killed so that the villagers can perform the proper funeral rites. Armed with a list of names he can’t read and literally no information on where to start, Gibson and his interpreter, Lieutenant Patricia Kim, head off for the main air and space base on Va’Sh to begin the search.

But they are not the only ones with an interest in Va’Sh’s missing commandos. A secretive organization is moving around in the background, intent on completely undermining the fragile peace between the two worlds.

Up to this point, the setting has been very local. This book opens up to a broader world, where politics and intrigue become major forces against the core characters. Again, the solutions are clever, and inspiration comes from unexpected directions. There are a couple of intense battle scenes which are very well written. The various "couples" slowly grow closer. It's not really a romance, yet...

I'll keep reading.

Wow! Fantastic science fiction adventure

This book deserves every superlative: awesome, fascinating, heartbreaking, laugh-out-loud funny, fantastic, enthralling, heartwarming. The worldbuilding continues to be fantastic, the Va'sh are beautifully detailed, the culture clashes continue to be fascinating, and the humor is well done. I'm so glad I didn't start Repatriation at midnight, because I wouldn't have gotten any sleep. Ben Gibson continues to be believable in his conflicted feelings about the Va'sh. I laughed so hard I cried more times than I could count, but there are definitely sad moments in Repatriation. The epilogue gives an excellent, if ugly, look at how one sector has dealt with the native people. I'm looking forward to Cupcake Girls, book 5. This series is best read starting with book 1, The Vixen War Bride; the relationships and humor are better enjoyed with the appropriate backstory.

These books just keep getting better. I think the genius of the stories is that while it is military-SF, it is not set in the obvious over-utilized (and thus usually dreadfully boring) time of conflict, but instead afterwards during the occupation. The author does the military culture right and I laughed out loud at times in the right places and not because it was missing the mark, far from it. This is something which the vast majority fail at in spectacular fashion. There are also interesting and different plots from the run of the mill pablum being churned out elsewhere. Finally and most important this author writes very well, I would read any genre he writes.

Story is just getting better and better

I have been reading these books as they came out and I am fully invested in this story.
The military aspects are light enough for casual mil readers and just enough grit for the hardcore. (Needs more E4 Mafia, which for the record does NOT exist wink wink nudge nudge)

The character development is touch slow for my taste but not overly so.
Real personal problems take time and the author is good at showing it.

In closing I just want to this is slow pace installment compared to the others in the series but it's a needed gear change.

A really serious story, don't look at the title or book covers - it's totally misleading especially if you read some jap novels before - it's not that for sure.

I've read all 5 books (as of now) and I must say, the plot and progress is really great especially when you count it as overall and it definitely gets better and better from one book to the other.

I'm gonna mention some tags for future readers: military, tragedy, romance, no-harem, political, religion, drama, action, sci-fi (story on alien planet, no space battles etc. for what I'm really grateful)

Great Read, Great Series

Ben is still conflicted by his relationship as Tesho to his Vixen war bride. However, as they both learn their languages and cultures better, they become closer. His Myorin, (bride) as Na'Sha (high priestess) asked him to find out what happened to the warriors of her village since the war was over. I like the action, humor, intrigue, culturally challenged romance, and the struggle to understand each other. I eagerly await the next book.

Yet another excellent book in the series. I like that the author changes the balance of characters in the village. The balance of the characters in the home village has been stable since the first book and it would have been easy to leave it that way. Shaking things up so thoroughly for the sake of the story took guts and it pays off.

It’s great, nuff said.

Look, what do you want me to tell you? This is another extremely solid entry into a series that’s quickly shaping up to be one of my favorites. If you’re here reading reviews for the fourth book, you already know what’s going on. Buy it already, and enjoy!

I am pretty much overjoyed with how much the quality improved. I hope for more stories in this universe. I look forward to reading more.

I love where the author has taken the storyline. There is a little less action and more politics that deepen the story as you learn more about this world and its indigenous peoples.

4.5 stars. Good continuation. Things get more complicated for the MC as he tries to pacify the alien town where he is stationed.

The Vixen War Bride book 4. Latest one to be out. Spoilers for the earlier ones ahead.

Ben is discussing rebuilding with his troops, Alacea is discussing their marriage with other vixens, and then some legal issues rear their head from the incidents of the third book. . . and then Alacea thinks to ask Ben whether he can find out what happened to the tods from their village.

It involves death threats, a letter, a revelation from a human to the Va'shen about the war (and their not being certain whether to believe it), more legal issues, rewriting vows, and more.

There are a few authors/books I will drop the rest of my reading list for, and to date this series has been at the top of that list.

Book 4 is as strong as the preceding volumes, so if you've read them you know what you're getting here. My only complaint is that I finished this in less than a day and that book 5 isn't out yet.
