*** A steamy contemporary, full-length romantic suspense. This is a standalone book but should be read in series order for best enjoyment. Re-released and updated in 2020. ***
Mandy Harbin is a USA Today Best‐selling author who loves creating stories that explore the complexities of everyday relationships...with some kissing thrown in. She also writes young adult romance as M.W. Muse because teens like kissing, too.
let me explain...it was fast, it was action packed with action and just enough dosage of romance and scorching hot sex scenes and a bunch of G.I.Joes calling themselves a Bang shift crew, meaning the garage being the center of a huge top secret cover up FBI unit - and they are a groovey little bunch of hot, sweaty, ripped muscles badasses - that I can't even start to describe, one of them being Hunter (a badass of book 2, this book)
and all I can say about him while thinking about him is...hot damn...
and I still smile like little country girl!
anyway, the story starts as usual - we have our heroine, a college student Maya running scared from a stun/shit her ex-boyfriend pulled and she seeks refuge with her roomate and a friend Heather, who actually calls her older brother (previously mentioned hunk Hunter)for help.
and then everything develops and it wraps you so fast, you don't really have the time to look up and everything falls into it's place again - the dialog is logical, funny, intriguing, the interacion between Hunter and Maya is real and palpable (and the build up, especaily) and it works...the action sequences are developed and detailed (not that I'm any expert BUT hey I watched SPEED with Keanu Reeves like a hundered times, so that makes me a kinda of an expert, a connoseur of a sort!!!), and the twist...while it unravels...it's a full blooded action movie...with Hunter played by non the less than
Jesus, my heart is racing...
and yes, Hunter and the team save the day and the girl...BUT he has to do a little groveling first...
and then after I finished with the book i was stunned and probably looked liked this
luckily I didn't shift into the cat form, i checked and I was still stunned by this...
it was quite pleasurable and fun to read it and now i'm gonna stop, cause i might say smth stupid so...
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
This is the second in the series, and although I think it could be read as a standalone, there would be more understanding of some of the group dynamics if you had read Brody first. It is quite a different story, which I liked, as I can be frustrated when a series seems to follow a formula.
The story has a good twist to it, and is not predictable at all - well except for the inevitable and rather hot, yet sweet romantic interest! I found it to be an easy read, with plenty of action, believable emotions and a desirable outcome. I enjoyed the foreshadowing of the next Bang Shift members to fall to romance, and look forward to reading their adventures in the future.
nb. I read a pre-release copy which I imagine has been proof read since then.

I read Hunter right after I closed Brody I am wishing I didn't do that and had some filler books in between. I am in no way saying Hunter is a bad book I really did enjoy it, but coming off the super suspenseful, sexy, angsty Brody it just did produce the same way for me.
Hunter seemed more rushed, the relationship between Hunter and Maya didn't have time to grow. There really wasn't a whole lot with Hunter and Maya actually together throughout the story so to me their insta-love felt off/forced almost. Brody was a very intense read, Hunter just seemed so much lighter even considering what was going on.
Will I continue on with the series? Absolutely. They are written well. I am so invested in Brody and Xan I have to know what happens to them throughout the series. I do love the guys at Bang Shift, the banter back and forth especially with Roc. I NEED to know his story, Bear's too. I am definitely intrigued by Blade, can't wait to see what he is all about.
This is a story of hunter and Maya - Hunter is the quintessential bad boy who would do anything for his sister Heather, that includes protecting her best friend from a crazy stalker ex- boyfriend. Maya is faced with a situation she has no clue how to get out of, but Heather believes her Big Brother has the answer!
Family is the only thing Hunter has left. After meeting Maya he wants nothing to do with her, but her story just starts to reel him in.
After trying to push her away, gravity pulls them together and the lines between them become clearer.
I enjoyed reading this book without having a cover model because it gave me a chance to create my own version of Hunter. I must admit I had to re-read the first chapter about 3 times. It just didn't grab me at first. There were a ton of characters that even after I finished the book, I still felt as if I didn't know enough about them. Once the story became clearer ( probably 3 or 4 chapters in ), I really started to enjoy it!
l also enjoyed the puzzle that was Bear and Roxie's relationship. The fact that we didn't learn or figure out right away what was up with them was written perfectly.
I think I would have liked to know a little more about Hunter's past rather than a small half of a page story.
Finally I would love to know: Are we getting some more of Hunter and Maya's story?!??
“’I feel you everywhere,’ he whispered, and she knew he didn’t mean physically.”
My Review:
Hunter is the second offering of the Bang Shift series – which involves a tough group of mercenaries that work as mechanics by day but are often hired by the government as a different type of “mechanic.” They are a gruff pack of good-looking, dick-swinging, arrogant a-holes, that don’t even like each other. But I have a hunch each one is waiting for just the right woman to peel back the hard outer shell to reveal the soft gooey center hidden inside. Hunter’s right woman happens to be a naïve and over-protected college girl, also known as his younger sister’s roommate. The story was interesting with twists and turns and enough intrigue to keep me occupied and curious, and enough steam to keep me from putting my kindle down when I should be doing other things. While Hunter’s story not be up to the same standard as the first book in the series, Brody, which I absolutely adored and lusted after, I was still entertained and am looking forward to uncovering the deets on the next hunk that is to be offered up.
I really liked The Darkest Sin, the first book in this series. This book I really didn't like at all. I didn't feel any connection between Hunter and Maya. There was hardly any dialogue between the main characters. This made it really hard for me to understand what they saw in each other. They each thought the other was hot, but this was based on looks, it didn't have anything to do with who the person was. Because we didn't get to see these two interacting we didn't get to see them fall in love. One minute they are avoiding each other and the next minute they are having sex. At least the sex.. What little we saw of it was good, that's what got this book 2 stars, the rest was just tedious.
OMG!!!! The Bang Shift guys are my favorite!!! I loved book 1 and book 2 did not disappoint. I highly recommend reading these in order because the characters all interact throughout both books and story lines will be even better when you know the back story. This book brings together 2 favorite story lines - the best friends older brother and the protector to lover.
Maya is hiding out from a stalker ex and her best friend knows just where she would be the safest. When Hunter finds out his sister's plan he is completely against it. He doesn't need to be a babysitter for some college girl. However, as soon as he lays eyes on Maya he knows that things will never be the same.
Of course they both try to fight the extreme pull they are feeling towards each other, but when it gets to be too much there is no denying the chemistry they feel.
This is another book that had me hooked from start to finish. There were so many twists and turns thrown in that every time i thought I knew what was going to happen I would be thrown for a loop and have to start guessing all over again.
Get ready to be taken on one heck of ride! I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!
Maya and Heather are roommates and best friends. Maya is being watched by her ex. She ended it with him but he’s not taking it well at all. He has been stalking her. Nobody will listen to her until someone trashes her car while she is at a bar with Heather.
Heather doesn’t want to take any chances now that she knows Jake really is crazy! Heather packs Maya into her car and takes her to her brother’s house to get him to help them. They are scared because Jake knows where they live and he can easily get them.
Hunter is not happy that Heather is involved with this situation with her roommate. He doesn’t want her roommate staying with him at his house. He doesn’t want to take a chance she will find out what he does.
This story is extremely well written and is a serious page turner! I didn’t want to stop reading until I devoured the entire book! I really enjoyed the twists and turns and the great character development. I am uploading the next book as soon as I post this review! I am hooked!
Title: Hunter Author: Mandy Harbin Format: ebook Genre: Romantic Suspense, covert ops, black ops, bodyguard, small town, best friend’s brother Standalone: yes Part of a Series:,The Bang Shift book 2 POV: Maya, Hunter Steam Level: quite warm at times 4.5/5
Hunter is the second book in the Bang Shift series. This one focuses on Maya and Hunter. You don’t need to hace read the first book in order to read this one as it’s new characters and a new mystery. Overall I really enjoyed this book but had to get past the first chapter. There’s a trend in best friends with girls that I see all the time that bugs the heck out of me. Once past that and into meeting Hunter and him protecting Mata I enjoyed this book way more. I loved ve that Mandy Harbin can surprise me with twists that I don’t see coming. Ooh And the epilogue/teaser for Bake. I can’t wait. I’m so glad I found Mandy Harbin. Her books make a great addition to the Romantic suspense genre which is one of my favorites.
I received this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.
How did she end up under the spell--no-no--being protected by bad boy brother of her best friend? A guy she broke up with vandalized her beautiful car. How could she tell her parents who didn't want her to go away to college anyway? Her bestie settled it by driving them to her big bad brother--yeah, he's part of the Bang Shift guys.
No way did Hunter want to have to protect his sister's friend. Especially her hot friend he can hardly keep his hands off. When he's assigned as her watchdog things are going to heat up since she's feeling it too.
Once again all is not what it seems. Who can be trusted? How can he keep her safe if he has no one else to turn to? Danger, surprises, changes, and again the hot, dangerous guys of the Bang and the women strong enough to be with them. Reviewed by Words Turn Me On
This is the second book of the series and HOLLY HELL I loved this one. Talk about being suspenseful and dangerous and an alpha male this is the book for you.
Maya is running from her ex who keeps stalking her. She sees him everywhere and one night her car is vandalized by him she decides to stay with her best friend. She knows she is going to need to watch out and living with her friend in another town will do her some good.
Only when she gets to her friends house she realizes that her life is about to change. She sees her friends brother and knows that he is a bad boy but one she wants to get to know. When these two connect they are electric and have all the feels. This is where the story gets good and you have to read it to get the full effect of the story but don't worry it is so worth it!
I absolutely loved this book so much. I loved Hunter and I kept yelling at Maya to show Hunter something. I knew that it was going to bite her in the butt. But I have to say through the whole book I was trying to figure out how Maya story and Hunter's past was going to come colliding. How were they intersecting. I was though surprised when it came to head. I really like this story and I felt like the love between Maya and Hunter didn't come out of left field or feel rush as Brody and and his girlfriend's did. I really felt both of the characters grew and I can't wait to read the next book in line.
This is the 2nd book in this series and is Maya and Hunter’s story. Maya has a vindictive ex. And after a night out with her car being vandalised, her roommate takes her to her brother Hunter, who is a mechanic in a small town. Hunter is the jokester of the group, and the chemistry between them is undeniable. This is a much lighter story than Brody’s which was more intense. This is a well written story which is sweet and with twists, action, emotion, and witty banter. I look forward to reading more from this author and I recommend this story for all.
I really enjoyed this book even though I did want to hit Hunter at some points. I couldn't put it down once started. This book had some revelations that had me shocked.
Who knew helping sisters friend could bring love.
I loved Hunter and Maya together, once they started letting their feelings out they was great. They tried fighting it, but they couldn't.
Hunter might be one of my favorite book boyfriends EVER! I loved how he came off joking and care free, but slowly getting to know him was just.....*SIGH*. This book continued the amazing action/suspense feeling, which normally isn't my favorite, and it kept me stuck to the pages for the entire book. I loved watching Hunter & Maya try to ignore their chemistry. It was just so swoon worthy. I'm seriously loving this series and I can't wait for more!
I couldn't really connect with either Hunter or Maya. I'm not sure why. It could be that I didn't feel the story went anywhere. They just sat in his house doing nothing. Plus, we were told what was going on instead of showing it to us. Hopefully, I'll have better luck with Blade and his lady friend.
'Hunter' was an amazing read. The fast-paced page-turning plot was filled with suspense, romance, a little action, and a twist that I never saw coming. Additionally, the main characters, Maya and Hunter, gushed with chemistry while playing their cat and mouse game. The author's use of vivid details created an upbeat tone. All in all, I liked the narrative.
This was really good! Maya's ex is stalking her and her roommate, Hannah thinks her brother Hunter can help. Hannah takes Maya to meet Hunter and Hunter thinks Maya is trouble. This book had some twists in it you don't see coming. Hunter realizes that Maya was what she seemed. The ending was really good! I am enjoying this series!
This is my first time reading Mandy and I lived lived lived it!!! From page one she drew me in with interesting characters and an amazing story!! Can’t wait to read the next one!!
Maya is being stalked by her ex, Heather, her room mate, contacts her brother, Hunter, to say they are on their way, so he can help them. There's more to the story than they know. Who is Jake? Who's he working for?
