Solo did begrudge how the mere sound of Lord Luxen’s smooth, deep demon voice writhed its way under his skin to seemingly take control of his body. Especially the male appendage he’d discovered had a more pleasurable use beyond expelling unwanted bodily fluids.
Luxen was everything angelkind feared. He gave demons a bad name.
He brought him dainty sandwiches with the crusts cut off. Once, he’d cut up a radish and crafted it like a rose.
Who did that?
Solomon, apparently.
From where he’d produced the blade, Luxen had no idea, but having his attack so elegantly thwarted and having Solomon almost close enough to kiss, but threaten him instead, might have been the most arousing thing he’d ever experienced. If there hadn’t been a blade at his throat, he might have stolen a kiss just to see how it ruffled the angel’s feathers. But this one would kill him.
“He’s too good for you,” Konstantin growled, walking alongside Luxen to a point on the street where they had room to spread their wings and get air-bound.
“Oh, I know.”
“If you break his heart I will break your face, then your wings, then your legs.”
Solo set the fire in the front room fireplace, warming the house through, and after returning from letting the cats outside, he found Luxen sprawled in one of the big armchairs, two cats curled in his lap and another draped over the back of the chair behind him. He shrugged gently, so as not to disturb them. “It appears I’m theirs now.”
“Come home with me.”
“To your family of felines?” Luxen grinned, then slammed a kiss on Solo’s mouth and mumbled, “I’m ready when you are.”
Luxen took his free hand and teased his fingers through Solomon’s red hair. Solomon tilted his head, leaning into the touch. His lashes fluttered down, his eyes closed, and Luxen wondered if he’d ever seen something so precious. And how had it come to this—to him falling for an angel.
Luxen was bad. So bad. He even looked bad, with those low-slung leather pants and the way his hip was cocked to one side.
Luxen gathered his red locks and breathed them in, then fixed his gaze on Solo’s eyes once more. “You are the only star I do not fear.”
"My life was a shadow before. You light me up, Solo, in ways I didn’t know were possible.”
"If you won’t let me go, then I need something else from you.”
“What?”
“Feeding.”
“Like a cat?”
Luxen blinked. “What?”
“Not that, then. I mean…” What did he mean? “I have some food in the kitchen—not that I’d know for certain, considering I clearly do not live here.” This seemed to be going well. “Because this is not my house.”
Luxen’s frown had deepened. “I can’t decide if you’re deliberately irritating or if you’re naturally like this?”
“Excuse me? Like what exactly?”
“Did you just compare me, a demon High Lord, to a cat?”

“Can you do anything about your face?” He waved a hand at his face.
“What’s wrong with my face?”
“Just… I dunno… You’re super pretty, is all.”
“Oh. Er. No. Not really.”
Ernas harrumphed and ruffled his wings. “Just don’t be too angel-like, okay?”
“Erm… okay.” He wasn’t sure how not to be an angel, but he’d give it a shot.
Angel wings shimmered into sight— a wall of red feathers rose and folded around them, like two shields of feathered fire. Amidst the kiss, Luxen’s breath caught. Beautiful.
Oh gods, what madness was this? Solo’s back arched, his body bucking without any notion of control. He wanted more. More of everything. More of Luxen’s hand grinding him, more of Luxen’s tongue fighting him, more of Luxen everywhere. His spiciness, his heat, his strength and weight.
The black cat sauntered along the countertop and nudged Luxen’s arm.
“Two is a terrible judge of character,” Solomon said.
Luxen looked down to find the small cat peering up at him. Two. He gave Two a pat on the head, then frowned and pulled his hand back. What the fuck was he doing, making friends with an angel’s cat?

“Never underestimate an angel in love.” Solo clutched the demon’s jaw, making sure he saw into Solo’s eyes. “I’d raze cities for him, that’s how I know what I feel is real. This is my test.”

“What if it doesn’t happen? Or what if it happens and I miss it? What if it’s already happened and I let it go?”
“Solo…” Severn sighed. “If it’s meant to be, it will happen and you won’t miss it, trust me. You’ll know because the person you love, whoever that person will be, you’ll protect them, defend them, save them. Do anything and everything for them. Because they have a half of your heart. There were times I wanted to kill Mikhail—honestly, there still are—but I’d raze London for him. I’d fight every demon and angel for him.”

“If there were more angels like you, the war would have been over long ago.”["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
“There are more like me.”
“With cats?”
“Well, no.”
“With an ex-High Lord to fuck?” He blushed. “Probably not.”
“With a heart made of gold and a dominating streak?”
Solo opened his mouth to deny it, but Luxen’s warm smile cut him off, “Nobody is like you, Solo.”
“Did you just compare me, a demon High Lord, to a cat?” “Technically, Konstantin is High Lord.”
“Mention that name again and we’ll see how fast you can draw that blade from wherever you’re hiding it.”

“You are the only star I do not fear.”Okay, I did not know I was going to enjoy this as much as I did!
“If we begin this peace with the killing of a demon who wants to change, then maybe we don’t deserve peace at all.”I hated how Mikhail and Severn acted in this book, but we got this kind of confrontation out of that, with Solo defending the man he loves, and I live for that.
