Debbie Cassidy lives in England, Bedfordshire, with her three kids and very supportive husband. Coffee and chocolate biscuits are her writing fuels of choice, and she is still working on getting that perfect tower of solitude built in her back garden. Obsessed with building new worlds and reading about them, she spends her spare time daydreaming and conversing with the characters in her head. She writes Urban Fantasy, Romance, Fantasy and Reverse Harem Fantasy. All her books contain plenty of action, romance and twisty plots.
For some reason I was convinced that the third book in the series was gonna be the last one. I was therefore quite surprised that the book ended with such a brutal cliffhanger. Although, when things were getting worse instead of better I already got an inkling that maybe there was gonna be another book to solve things. However, I was very glad when I got an e-mail with an arc of this book so I could finally read how the author would give the characters their happy ending!
The book picked up right where the previous book ended which means that we at least knew quite soon how the cliffhanger of the previous book was gonna be solved. However, that was quite clearly only the beginning of the problem solving. Cassidy build this amazing and complicated world and had started quite a few plots and all of those needed to reach some sort of conclusion in this book. Not an easy tasks, but Cassidy did a great job!
Although the book is not bigger than the rest and although there's quite a lot to be solved and explained it never felt like Cassidy was rushing things. One by one all the outstanding issues and problems were tackled. Some issues took a little work and planning, others mainly needed the right person hearing about the issue, but all those issues got attention and we saw from each and every one of them how it worked out in the end.
Of course Cassidy kept the biggest issue, the upcoming invasion, to be solved last. And I was absolutely NOT prepared to see how many details and loose ends would be tied into this storyline! I don't want to give away too much, but a lot of question I still had about August and her family were answered and it even felt like we found an entire new world to explore. The finale, spectacular and action-packed, was therefore really satisfying.
One plot-line wasn't solved in this book. It seems to be the start of an entirely new series and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
I’m not crying!! Why is it over!! I’m glad Nandi is getting her own series. But this ending had so many twists and turns I was hanging on to every word. That opening broke my heart but it quickly mended after a few chapters. I love August and Telarion’s HEA!! What an amazing journey between the two of them. Debbie Cassidy Mistress of Plot for the win!!
August has been through a hell of a journey in this series and I really approved of her growth as a character. She really takes things in her stride and keeps going, even when it sometimes feels like blow after blow.
We see August finally get some answers as to her heritage and the fate of her mother, as well as her final battle with the mastermind behind the attacks.
As usual in Debbie's books, we have some great side characters and a fabulous female best friend. I'm. Pleased Nandi is getting her own book.
I really like Telarion and I think he is one of my favourites from Debbie's recent series.
If you're looking for a good urban fantasy completed series that you'll quickly get through, if definitely recommend this one.
What a great ending to this series. So many surprises in this book. Love how everything turned out for August. I am going to miss these characters. I hope some of them get their on book in the future
I love this last book in the series but I absolutely hate that we are at an end…fingers crossed Debbie Cassidy gives us a little bit more of August and Telarion’s story in future books. But this fourth book was such a great conclusion of their series. The depth of their emotions flows from the pages and draws the reader in. Every time I read a new Debbie Cassidy book I think it is my favourite and then she writes another and I love it even more! Debbie’s books and series are ones I can go back to over and over again and still love it! I cannot wait to read about Nandi and Archie’s story!
I really really hated the start of this book, but I wouldn't change it one bit. So I said before that this was my first non RH book from Cassidy, and my first non RH book in a long while. I got the change to read this as an ARC and I thought why not? I first had to read the first three books, did that with kindle unlimited. The story was really good, well thought out. In the last book you get all the answers to your questions and even answers to some you didn't know to ask. This last book really shows you how well Cassidy had thought everything out. All the little details that all just fit together in the end. With her RH books I always reflect back in the end and realise that it feels like the FMC was living multiple stories in one book, because she has so many separate lives to live. I don't have that with this book and I love that. What also love is the relationship that August had with her friends, something I feel Cassidy is always very good at. No backstabbing or fighting about small things, but actually really good friends that feel like family. I do hope though that Nandi's story will be an RH because I have already been picking out her men for her, I have a list and everything. This last book is full of action and you should definitely go and read it (even if Cassidy plays with our emotions a bit at the start). One last question; Was it just me or was there a lot going on with Telarion's tongue this last book? I don't recall reading about that in the first few?
OMG! it was pow pow bang! Debbie sure knows how to keep you at the edge of your seat! those last chapters were non-stop action! It’s freaking fantastic!! I LOVED IT!!!!! what a crazy ending!!! 💜
Aw. I have mixed feelings - I love how everything came together in this book, but I'll miss August and Telarion. I'm so glad Nandi gets her own book, and I hope we'll get more glimpses of them in there as well. Either way, Nandi deserves her own story for being such an awesome friend and sidekick. This book is so action packed and yet another totally unputdownable book. This entire series is great and I binged all of them in little more than a day. Just couldn't put them down. A&T has had such a rough time of it, but I love how they've taken turns saving each other and fight for their love. Teamwork at its best! The twists and turns in this book made me question how everything would fit together by the end, but it all got tied up beautifully and STILL left me panting for more. I'll just have to start over and reread while waiting for Nandi's story. This is absolutely one of my new favorite go-to reads. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm very disappointed in this book. I read the entire series up to now and it's just gotten more and more ridiculous. I didn't finish the book and I'm not gonna finish the series if there's more books. It jumps to four different POV's and it's chaotic and disjointed. Also, this book needs to be labeled LGBT. There was two different M/M relationships in this book. One was August's uncle, he only came out as gay when his boyfriend showed up at the party they were having and chewed him out for not talking to him. The uncle then admits he kept his boyfriend a secret from his family bc of fear. The whole thing was written really weird and the reactions of people involved didn't seem very realistic.
I have to start by saying I'm not easiest reader. Please, please don't hate me for some of the reasons that keep me from giving great reviews about a book! Because I read hundreds of books a year, tropes rise to the surface quickly, and I have a long list of the ones that burn my biscuits. So here goes!
This is at its heart a good, strong series. The world building is good. The female characters are admirable for the most part. The somewhat dark atmosphere is well done. The romance is good. And the sex is smokin hot, although a good bit more would have been better.
My issues are around the winding, sort of made-up-as-it-went-along plotline. There's a start/stop/jump somewhere new kinda quality that I find frustrating. Ever so often the plot would just reel off into something entirely new, that didn't seem to connect to the main plot. This to me is an interruption. It's also a sign that the author may have lost control of the narrative, or feels the need to pad the story for some reason. It's tied to the pacing of the story, and those jumps , whether they add to the story or not, are jarring. I do understand that authors sometimes don't have complete control over characters. Many will say that the characters can force direction where the author doesn't want it. I can concede that, but still, it's a frustrating move that trips my BS meter.
The other frustration for me is the overall YA tone. YA is awesome, and there's some incredible stuff out there. I'm just not really interested in it. Yes, this series started with a VERY young female lead, so no surprise there. But YA can also include a sorta breathy, high school tone that comes out through dialogue and repetition of dialogue that is just too high schooly and angsty. This series could have been so much better without that. Sometimes I think the authors are quite young themselves and write what they know. I'm not sure about this author, so who knows. I promise I hold no issues with young people. I used to be one! But as a more mature person, I relate more to characters with greater life experience. Because this series didn't seem positioned as a YA kind of story, it seemed out of place for me.
The last trope that is keeping that extra star away is because some characters, particular leads, develop new powers unknown to them out of the blue. Typically, these powers/ abilities show up in the nick of time. That always feels like the author got stuck in a corner, or needed a specific outcome to occur and couldn't or didn't backtrack in the plot. I get it, but it's mighty irritating. It just feels lazy. This is similar to the intro of new races/beings close to the end of the wrap-up book. Same thing.
So that's it. I'm hoping to find a new read that's as strong as this one in some aspects, and not in the others. Feel free to share!
Telarion and August come together for the 4th and last book in the New Blood: Eldritch Blues Series. I've been a huge fan of the Telarion's Venom comic character inspiration. But the last book left us in quite a cliffhanger with a raging Telarion, and desperate August. It's a writing trait we've come to know in a love-hate relationship from all series with Cassidy. It would be really easy for final books of longer series to be a giant epilogue of sorts that is low on action and high on wrapping up threads. Instead, we were thrown headfirst into multiple conflicts, met a slew of brand new characters, and watch August fight tooth and nail for those she loves. There is no shortage of action, and I both gasped and cringed through the dramatic unfolding conclusion. However, it's the love between August and Telarion that really makes this book. I am accustomed to RH books, and the intimacy of August and Telarion is both fierce and tender throughout the series which captivates the reader and keeps us attentive to all the details so beautifully explored and built out. New Blood, Eldritch Blues is too good to leave, and I eagerly await another epic installment in this new and exciting world.
Debbie Cassidy’s New Blood: Eldritch Blues series concludes August and Telarion’s journey in book four. These two characters have had such a difficult time but fight for each other against all odds. They may have an unusual relationship but they prove that love is able to conquer all. August and Telarion learn more about their past and secrets are revealed. The Faerie Queen isn’t the end to their problems. All the twists and turns, action, danger, suspense, surprises, emotions, spicy smut, and drama will have you glued to the edge of your seat from page one. I enjoyed the ending to the story in how the author managed to tie up so many loose thread without missing a beat. This series is a must read that will not disappoint. With Nandi and Archie playing a part in this book dare I say there might be more books in this universe to come. Crossing my fingers to get glimpses of August and Telarion in those books.
The final book in August's story is as explosive as they get, finally answering a lot of questions and revealing mysteries that accompanied the reader throughout the series, keeping us guessing and trying to put the puzzle pieces together. All of the complicated, entangled, hopeless, even bizarre relationship seem to shake and settle into a certain direction, clear as a day or shadowy and obscured yet. The changed nature of the bond between August and Telarion reshuffles the cards and sets up a new game, and this time they, if united, may achieve goals that seemed impossible before. There is no time to take a break and recuperate fully, not even thinking about a relaxing moment (unless you count the steamy ones), constantly running from action to action, from adventure to adventure. I have to say I really liked the side line dedicated to Archie and Dottie, relished in the final battle, and am looking forward to Nandi's story impatiently.
Wow, what an action packed book to end the series, but I am so glad Nandi is getting her own series so we can hopefully catch up with them again. August and Telerion just can't seem to catch a break, and I love the devotion these two had for each other. They have come so far from the first book and I have truly felt the love they have for each other grow over the series. There is so much packed into this book, but it does not feel rushed at all. We find out a lot more about the eldritch, and August's part in it all. The way all the puzzle pieces slot together is amazing, but I did have a few heartstopping moments along the way. I loved seeing all the different characters, and there are so many great side characters! The world building is fascinating and flowed together to make all the different elements come together.
Wow!! What an excellent ending to this series. August is such a kick butt character. August and Telarion have such an explosive love. It's addictive. Their love is an over the top. Now that we know what and who Telarion is their love will be put to the test. Their past has collided with the present and threatening their future. There is so much going on in this book. They must escape the clutches of the evil Queen. Find the invisible threat to the city. Save the people that matter the most to them. This book is so action packed it was such a fast read. Alot of the loose ends get tied up. There is still some. Glad that Nandi's getting her own books. Can not see where her story takes us. Hopefully we will see a glimpse of August and Telarion. Definitely one of my favorite D.C. books. A must read!!!!
Brilliant story by the amazing Debbie Cassidy, I’ve never come across a book she’s written and not liked. She has a way to keep you entertained and addicted. Always something new but with the added twist of a new monster or supernatural.
New blood: Eldritch Blues was the perfect combo of a bad arse but loveable FMC A lover who was not only a monster but one who protected, loved and changed the game for our leading lady. With some pretty cool characters, it’s a story that was just that good. I’m not 100% sure but I’d like to say out of all the series Debbie Cassidy has written this series had the most supernatural beings, monsters etc but I could be wrong. But yeah it’s a page turner and a keeper you will definitely want to read again 😁
Like every good series I have a love/hate for this book. I love the endings that many of the characters get and hate that this is the end of their journey. That I will move on and find new characters to watch as they grow, love, and struggle. After four books August and Telarion finally get the HEA they so deserve, along with quite a few others. While a few are left in the lurch, the follow up confirms that their story is just beginning in a new series that I can’t wait to devour as they come out. Maybe August and Telarion will make an appearance there as well? Time will tell. Till then, I am going to get some food and drink to nurse this mental hangover this binge worthy book has created.
Amazing end to great series! I got answers to questions I didn't even know I had. This book was a page turner from start to finish, chocked full of action, intrigue and combustive spiciness. The world building is top notch and the characters Cassidy has created connect with the reader in a really special way. August and Telarion's chemistry is off the charts and they got the HEA they definitely deserved. I loved everything about this series and, while I'm super sad to see the end of August and Telarion's story arch, I'm excited that we won't have to leave this world and it's characters behind. I can't wait to see what's in store in the next branch off of this world. Absolutely recommend this book. You will not be disappointed.
This is the last instalment of August and Telarion story and it's excellent even if i would love more; i know we will get to see more of some characters, as we do have some unfinished plots, so hopefully more of them soon too.
August was changed and she needs to adapt to that reality but her priority is saving Telarion from becoming a souless monster being put down.... she reacts without a real plan and that leads to some interesting twists. I love Trinity she is cute for a monster and so loyal.
There are a lot of twists i don't want to tell you to avoid spoiler but really it was good. So if you want a good steamy ( extra steamy) MF romance with fae, creature from other dimension and monsters this a series you should discover but read it in order.
August and Telerion say goodbye to us in this final installment of Debbie Cassidy's adventure-filled Eldritch Blues saga. And a saga it really is - in true Cassidy style, she has woven a complicated world with numerous threads that demand to be tied in book 4, something that offered me a bit of doubt from book 3.
But she did it, and she did it well. Those threads were wrapped up, the loose ends tied, and an emotional goodbye delivered from a pair of lovers I honestly didn't expect to love as much as I did. Mind you, I adored August from Book 1, scene 1, but Tel took a bit to grow on me.
Intense, detailed, and incredibly complex, this is another winner for Cassidy's ever-growing list of hits.
This is an incredible finale and I cannot believe that we have come to the end of August and Telarion‘s journey but what a journey it has been. We pick up right where the author left us in the last book and it s straight headlong into the story we go. It’s an emotional read but also exciting, gripping and we have one final battle that they have to face. The world building has been amazing and so descriptive and the author does a fantastic job of answering all questions and leaving nothing hanging. Action packed and full of drama, danger, suspense and let’s not forget the steamy scenes and the ending was such an incredible ending and perfect for this series! Hope to see them pop up in another series sometime!!
I wanted to like this series more than I did. The "girl has a power that would ruin her if those in power knew" trope is one of my favorites, and the found family relationships are very well done. I love the possessed coffeepot and the fiendish Order and all the different types of abilities. The idea of multiple realms and energy exchange I was all on board with. I'm not opposed to a little steam in urban fantasy, and if it's too awkward it's usually easy to flip past and resume the real story, but this was forced and interrupted the story in random ways with a monster kink that didn't make sense.
I'm still curious about the Kingdom of Dawn/the Queen and what closure, if any, Archie found with his relatives.
I have come to love this author’s last book in a series just because I know this won’t be the last that I see of the characters. This is the last book, of course, and I’m going to miss Telarion and August, but I’m looking forward to Nandi’s book. All questions were wrapped up, and I love how it did that. We get a couple of surprises that I loved, and I wish I could say something about that, but I don’t give out spoilers LOL! What I can say is that this is just the type of book you expect from this author, and I can’t wait to read more with a new series. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
August, a rift walker, and Telarion, the aberrant monster that has become a part of her, have been separated and Telarion’s monster nature has taken over. As the story progresses the savage beast is tamed, they face other dangers unnamed, and they may find at the end that more than their relationship will be changed. Debbie Cassidy took my heart for a spin between the can the, can’t they, or will they fail in Ancient Monsters. I am so sad to see August’s story end, but look forward to seeing her and the rest of the family by choice in Nandi’s story.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Wow! What an amazing end to an amazing story. Debbie Cassidy has really outdone herself with this one.
I absolutely LOVE August and Telarion! Goodness, I really love all of the characters. This book certainly through me in many places with the things that happened. I stayed on the edge of my seat the entire time.
We have some serious secrets answered throughout the entire book. All those questions you've just been dying to have answers to? You'll certainly get them!
There were parts that tried to rip out my heart, but I believe everything happened the way it was supposed to. An absolutely fabulous read!!!
I can't wait to read Nandi's story when it comes out!!!!!
How do I even start?! Up until now the HEA has been questionable at best. I love the way this author writes and she's definitely one of my favorites! All of our questions/problems become answered in such a way that seemed impossible. A&T are without a doubt one of my favorite book couples although I was also secretly hoping for some RH action! Nonetheless, this series was a masterpiece and I loved seeing both A&T grow and become what each other needed.
Prepare yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions and for the bittersweet ending of this series. I'm so glad Nandi gets her own book and hopefully we get to see more of A&T in that one as well!
This is an amazing end to an amazing series. Author, Debbie Cassidy absolutely blew me away with this book. There are so many different povs and it just makes the book just that much more perfect getting to see the world through different peoples eyes.
Poor Telerion and August just can’t catch a break and everything seems to be being thrown at them from every angle. Not just that but there’s a new problem when it comes to the eldritch.
There’s action from start to finish, with so many twists and turns and absolute heart stopping moments.
I can’t wait to see what story Cassidy blows us away with next! I’ll definitely be reading it.
Holy SMOKIN Tongue action yo!! And action action! This author is the queen of battle scenes and this book is full of amazing action sequences that will have you on the edge of your seat! All of the questions pertaining to this series are tied up nicely, we get some feel good moments and some major bomb drops, and quite a few threads sneaking off for other series potentially (hopefully) that I can’t wait to see! Even though this may be the end of this particular set, the ending feels more like a beginning into the next set and I love that because it is so hard to say goodbye!
Astonishing final installment in the New Blood: Eldritch Blues series.
This final book in the series had me on a wild roller coaster ride from start to finish. I would have like a little more of Quentin just because he is one of my favorite characters. The story did not fell rushed at all and there was some additional world building that flowed together answering all my lingering questions. I loved every minute of the completion of this saga and was sad to let go of August and Telarion. I’m excited for Nandi’s story and the gang will get back together.
