Les's Bar #3

Wholly Trinity

Rate this book
Dr. Isaac Daniels and Detective Neil Thrope have been on and off Dom and sub since they met a few years ago. Isaac is all in but he’s not everything switch Neil needs, so good as things are between them, they both know it’s not enough.

Being in the BDSM community, Isaac and Neil were there to help when sub Alain Remy Broussard was assaulted by a pair of Doms who didn’t ascribe to the notion of safe, sane, and consensual. Their friend, Dom and therapist Cyrus Hughes offered Alain a place to stay, and has been working with the boy to help him regain trust. When Cyrus is called out of town suddenly, he calls on Isaac, who agrees to take Alain in while he’s away.

Isaac feels instantly protective of Alain, but it’s Neil who quickly bonds with the sub. With Alain in the house, Neil might have found the balance he craves but thought was too much to ask for. Isaac, though, has only ever had that kind of connection with Neil. Will the Dom be able to get on board and love both men as they, and he, deserve?

Jodi Payne

JODI spent too many years in New York and San Francisco stage managing classical plays, edgy fringe work, and the occasional musical. She, therefore, is overdramatic, takes herself way too seriously, and has been known to randomly break out in song. Her men are imperfect but genuine, stubborn but likable, often kinky, and frequently their own worst enemies. They are characters you can’t help but fall in love with while they stumble along the path to their happily ever after.

For those looking to get on her good side, Jodi’s addictions include nonfat lattes, Malbec and tequila however you pour it. She’s also obsessed with Shakespeare and Broadway musicals. She can be found wearing sock monkey gloves while typing when it’s cold, and on the beach enjoying the sun and the ocean when it’s hot. When she’s not writing and/or vacuuming sand out of her laptop, Jodi mentors queer youth and will drop everything for live music. Jodi lives near New York City with her beautiful wife, and together they are mothers of dragons (cleverly disguised as children) and slaves to an enormous polydactyl cat.

I have loved this series and meeting these wonderful guys. I always hate to see a series by Jodi Payne and B. A. Tortuga end. In the front of each book, it states...“Note to readers: Each book in this series is a true standalone”. When I read this...the 3rd in the series I found that IF I had read them out of order that I would have felt that I had really missed something that was significant to understanding this one. It was so very obvious that Neil and Alain clicked right from the start. It was also obvious that Doc and Neil still solidly remained very much a loving couple...but that they had drifted somewhat because Doc was unsure how to meet Neil's needs. Along came Alain. He was so sweet and just wanted to serve and be loved. That Louisianna boy sure knew how to cook. You could gain 20 pounds just reading the book:) He was the perfect fit for the switch Doc and the Dom, Neil. As I said, I loved this series and all the guys, but this book was a longer, slow burn for me than the other two books. Then in the next breath the last few chapters went past at what seemed to be warp speed. Suddenly Neil was in rehab...then, just as suddenly he was back home with his two men... then he was out of a wheelchair and able to go out to dinner. Does it work like that in real life? The ending came a bit too quick also, when Alain and Neil get their dream fulfilled and they live happily ever after as a threesome. Don’t get me wrong...I loved this series...I loved all three guys in this story and the other men in the first two books...and I really, really wanted everything they ever wanted to work out for them. I just wished the pace had been a little bit more even, and that there was by some miracle, another 50 books in the series.

Freaking hell, I love Jodi Payne and B.A. Tortuga's take on kink, relationships and found family. I love that none of the characters are ever perfect- all the MC's are flawed, but still manage to find love, acceptance and happiness.

If you've read Book 2 in this series, you're familiar with the MCs and some of their backstory. Isaac is a Dom and a doctor who has been in a long-term relationship with Neil, a police officer, for years. Unfortunately Neil isn't content being 100% a submissive and the longer he denies his need to switch, the rockier the relationship between Neil and Isaac become. Alain, a sub recovering from a horrible assault, needs a place to stay when the Dom watching over him has to go away unexpectedly. What he doesn't expect to find is two men who love him, need him and make him feel like part of a family.

Add in a great subplot involving dirty cops and beautifully played out hurt / comfort and you have a hot, sexy, sweet and absolutely lovely story about three men and the love they have for each other.

Sometimes I get genuinely confused when I see you that a book that is such a mess has such glowing reviews. I mean did we read the same book? This book had potential and that's the most frustrating thing but it is so choppy and so messy in a bad way. There is no introduction to these characters and there's no editing.

Now this is the third book in a series and you might be saying "Anna did you read the other books in the series because maybe it'd make more sense?"and I would respond with no I did not because I was told that it could be a standalone and if you're going to tell me that a book can be a standalone then it should stand alone. You shouldn't need information from other books to make that book make sense. Series are great. Let them be a series. If you need context from other books to make your book make sense, then don't say that it can be read as a standalone.

This book is about a semi-established couple who have been friends for a long time I guess and have played together before. Isaac is a dumb and Neil is a switch. From what I understand Isaac was kind of shitty about Neil being a switch in the way that he just didn't understand and couldn't wrap his head around it and so they weren't together -together. Insert Alain who I guess is a sub who had been assaulted and needed somewhere to go so he ends up staying with Isaac and Neil. This was already kind of weird for me because Isaac and Neil didn't live together and hadn't seen each other I guess for 6 months and so it was very odd that all of a sudden there was three of them living in one house.

Keep mind that we have no idea who this characters are. The assault that happened I guess happened in a different book and there's never any sort of details exclamation or working through it on page in this book despite having that character in this book. There is no sort of prologue to introduce these three and you're really just running blind.

Then there's the fact that they jump right into BDSM power exchange and rolls and expectations. They do this without having conversations and there's a lot of assumptions made.

Then all of a sudden they're together. They are a little triad and everything's great. This is about halfway through the book and to be fair I probably should have DNF this maybe 10% in because I was not feeling it but I received a free copy from gay romance reviews and felt obligated to continue reading. I feel like I wasted my time because this book doesn't necessarily get better.

Something happens and they have to work through some major problems and again they do this without fucking talking. They talk about how badly they need to talk and then they don't. It was so weird.

So beyond the choppy plot, this book needed major editing. There were so many spelling and sentence structure errors. There are sentences where entire words are just missing out of it to make it make sense. One of the characters is from Louisiana I think and has a very strong accent and the way that it is portrayed in the text felt really fake and overdone. Not talking about the dialect and dialogue, there are so many grammatical errors in just the general paragraphs. It was wild.

This was the first book that I've read by these authors and it will probably be the last if I'm being honest.

Alain's tragic story was revealed in Book #2 "Hides Bounds" of the "Les's Bar" series. It would behoove any reader of this Book #3 to get Book #2 to understand where Alain and his history began. The following quotes from "Hides Bounds" hints at Alain's quandary; "help Alain find someone who can safely give him what he needs” from Neil and "He’ll need some support though. Friends. Someone that understands his needs” from Isaac. Dom Isaac and sub-Neil are in an off-again, on-again relationship but when Dex asks them to open their home to a needy Alain neither is sure Alain will fit in. Both are aware of Alain's terrible abuse but just not sure how to offer phycological or emotional aid. This MMM relationship gradually builds with Neil's role primary role is as a sub but "besides wanting to submit and dominate at the same time" Neil's logic says that Alain can fulfill all his desires. Isaac must tread with caution not to destroy either Neil or Alain. This book's theme is very different from the first two books of this Le's Bar series but in a good way. It isn't written in a formulaic way but with a uniquely ingenious flavor as written by Ms. Payne. This is my voluntary and willing ARC review.

Many books by this author pair fall into the “comfort read” category for me, especially because of the fascinating intersection of city versus cowboy, power exchange, and surprising external story elements. While always coming from unique characters, the narrative voices also evoke a comfortingly familiar feel as well. This book has the benefit of all of that, but with the addition of a brand-new accent/voice from a new Southern corner. Alain is a delightful treat atop an already wonderful story.

This story can mostly be read as a stand-alone, but we meet all three heroes in the previous installment of this series, which features the inciting incident to Alain’s current recovery. This book centers on Alain only in how caring for him helps prompt the reunion between Isaac and Neil that has been a long time coming. Payne and Tortuga delicately balance strong emotions in each of these storylines without crossing the line into unnecessary angst as these three characters perform a delicate dance of settling into various power exchange dynamics while simultaneously establishing (and re-establishing) romantic relationships.

For these three characters, power exchange is a work that soothes a need, but it is certainly not always easy. This is not a story about Isaac and Neil bringing Alain into their relationship. Instead, the three characters are building a new, stronger relationship on the framework of an older one that never quite worked. The 6 months Neil and Isaac spent apart could have caused more of a hiccup somewhere, but in a story with so many already fraught topics, including a dramatic external plot, since characters do not live in a vacuum, I didn’t mind that the separation doesn’t cause as much overt conflict.

Speaking of vacuums, multiple external familiar faces provide good connections and trusted friendships to the three heroes of this story. I love how this community steps up to take care of each other, and I look forward to more from this world.

Holy hotness! These three men are on fire. It took me a minute to realize when on the timeline of Les’s Bar this book fell, but I quickly figured it out. Alain, Isaac, and Neil make up an intricate puzzle that isn’t complete without all three of them in the picture. I fell in love with these men so quickly. I am kinda glad we don’t have details on what happened to Alain because it sounds like it was traumatic and that is enough for me. The story hints at it but never comes out and says. It doesn’t really need to either. That bit isn’t really important to the story other than an explanation on why Alain was staying with Cyrus to begin with. Having read Just Dex, I know what happens to Cyrus in TX so we won’t talk about that here. Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga can write some truly beautiful books around the topic of BDSM and all of its different dynamics. Isaac is our Dom, while Alain is our recovering sub. Neil is a switch but he truly needs Isaac in his life because otherwise he loses his tether. Alain completes their triad so perfectly bumpy allowing Neil to be both the Dom and the sub in their household. I think Neil struggles more than the other two with trusting and giving over sometimes, which probably comes in part from his job as a cop. Isaac keeps having to remind him that he doesn’t need protecting. This was such a gorgeous story and I just couldn’t put it down once I started. This book is all about them figuring out how to make their little polycule work. Once they start down that road, they really don’t look back and it was stunning to watch. (It also really made me hungry for some Creole cooking! But that is beside the point 😉). I can’t recommend this series enough.

I knew I would love Alain’s story but had no idea how much I would adore Alain, Isaac and Neil together

I was (not so) patiently waiting for Alain’s story after we met him in Peter’s. After everything he went through I knew he deserved someone really special but now I know that what he really needed were two imperfectly perfect, sweet, stubborn guys who would help him find a home that was just right for him. Isaac and Neil were heartbreaking initially. They loved each other so much but couldn’t see a way to be together. Poor Neil was so in his own head and so convinced he had to take on all the wrong in the world while Isaac was so afraid of not being enough for the person he loved. I loved that Alain was their perfect missing piece. He’s such a mix of steel and sweetness. So kind and gentle and caring but fearless in his willingness to trust in others despite having been so badly hurt. I say this every time I read a book by BA or Jodi but the found family in their books always gives me the warmest feeling. This is definitely a book that focuses on Isaac, Neil and Alain (it makes sense like that simply because of their dynamic and needing to find how they work together) but even with that focus we still get to see Les, Cyrus, Brandon and Peter helping and supporting when they need it the most. Sigh, this is such a lovely book/series and I’m so happy these guys got their HEA.

Fans of the series so far will be so happy to read this and see Alain get his HEA with two loving and supportive doms. We don't go into any detail about what happened to him, just since he's been in Cyrus's care and then goes to stay with Isaac and Neil.
These two have been in love and mostly perfect for each other for a while but Neil needs something that Isaac can't provide as a full Dom. Neil is a wonderful and willful sub for him but needs his own sub to care for and play with. As soon as Alain comes into their lives, everything settles and you can feel the bond that ties them together. They take time with each other as couples and especially as a triad and it's a wonderful thing. I love reading Neil's Texan twang and Alain's Creole accent. It adds to their personalities and individuality. It's not all sunshine and roses though as drama comes in and puts them all off balance again. Things are tense for a minute, not knowing what happened but they're all strong enough to pull through. Isaac will stand strong for them all whilst Alain has to learn not to try to take everything on and Neil to know it's not his job to keep them all safe all of the time.
A fantastic book from Jodi and BA. I love their stories together and the relationship that is both established and growing is so enjoyable to read.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

This book brings us back to the world of NYC meets the south. The three books in this series overlap on the timeline and flow together easily. Alain is a sub who had been brutalized by two cruel "doms" off-page. He is now recovering and has received healthy D/s support and therapy. Through a friend, he comes to spend a little time living with respected Dom Isaac.

Isaac has a lover and sub, Neil, who he hasn't seen in six months. The two men have strong feelings for each other, but since Neil is a switch, Isaac realized that he could never be all that Neil needs. When Alain comes into the picture, the men quickly feel all the parts fall into place and they begin to think about making their relationship permanent. Still, danger lurks due to Neil's job as a police detective. All three men have to learn how to blend their new lives. This book also brings in some of the characters from previous books in the series. Still, no visit to Les's Bar, which I really miss.

Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga are a dynamic duo who keep churning out really great stories and this one is no exception. This book has a beautiful triad relationship, low protocol D/S relationships, and a healing type of love.

This is the third book in the Les’s Bar series. Isaac and Neil are in a D/s relationship, but something is missing for Neil, who is a switch. When they met Alain, a sub, they realized that Alain is what Neil was needing all along. Together, the three forge a new relationship built on communication and trust.

I really liked this book. The characters were very likable and well developed. The dynamic between the three MC’s was very interesting and satisfying and their connection seemed to be very genuine and strong. I was so sad for Alain’s situation and so glad when Neil and Isaac brought him into their friendship and then their relationship. I really enjoyed the Cajun aspect of this book, as that is my heritage and grew up listening to grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins speaking Cajun French and listening to their Cajun accents. And Cajun food is a big deal with my family. So yeah, this really made me smile.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Isaac + Neil + Alain = ❤️🔥❤️
3.5 Stars ⭐️

I adored parts of this book especially the relationship between these three, they were like a non-complicated puzzle of sexiness 🔥 and love ❤️ they all fit together just so perfectly. Unfortunately, as much as I adored the dynamic between the three, I felt like Neil was the deciding factor and everything pretty much revolves around him...granted he was the one that needed things that Isaac alone couldn't give but he had a chance to spend one on one time with both men, sexually and otherwise. I would have liked to see a more In-depth relationship development between Alain and Isaac outside of worrying about Neil's wants and needs and the incident's circumstances. To me it was an instant ILY between the two almost like I had missed a few chapters 🤷🏻‍♀️ all in all this story was a good one with a very sweet ending and I would recommend even with the issues that I had with the story.

First let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews and this is me leaving my honest review.
What a fantastic book I just couldn’t put it down but I am absolutely gutted because this is the first book in the series that I’ve read and I’m gonna have to go back and start from the beginning because I think starting from book 2 in the story would’ve really helped but it didn’t ruin one second of this book I just could not put it down. I enjoyed the characters and the way that they connected and the passion they shared. No one is perfect you know they are just human beings who are trying to work out what they want from life. Dr Isaac who knows that he wants Neil they’ve been on and off as Dom and sub for a while but for Neil there’s always something missing and he’s found that in Alain. And Alain needs Neil and Isaac it’s just brilliant honestly I got really emotional through this book you know you’ve got Neil struggle with his life as a detective and wanting to protect these amazing people are there supporting each other honestly fantastic read worth more than five stars.

Wholly Trinity by authors Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga is the third book in Les Bar Series. I loved this one. These men are really compelling, and their love transcends the pages of this story. You do not have to read previous books to get this story. But I can tell you as a fan they are all worth the read.

Dr Isaac Daniels: A Dom and really had a huge heart. He can connect to his boys like no one else. He has been in a relationship with Detective Neil Thorpe for a few years. But the two of them is not enough and they both know that.

Alain: he is coming out of a bad situation and needs love and care. He is a cook and loves to take care of his people. He is exactly what Isaac and Neil need. He is a Sub and perfect for both men. The glue that can hold them all together.

I felt each man was essential to this menage and no one was left out. I loved this addition to the series and cannot wait for more in the future.

This had a totally different vibe to the usual D/s stories I have read. The characters were interesting and all bought rheir own uniqueness to the story. It took me a while to get used to the Creole dialect but that gave Alain his personality. The 3 characters came together beautifully and I almost felt like a voyeur looking into private moments between 3 intimate lovers. The detective side of the story added great narrative. The sex scenes were not overly steamy compared to other M/M/M or D/s stories but this story seemed to slant more towards intimacy and special understanding of each other; working in harmony. I gave it 5 stars because the authors really captured something different and special. The epilogue provided a HFN but the use of the word 'forever' was used throughout the book to give confidence of a HEA.

Sweet, dealt with real issues

I enjoyed the characters and the relationships, and seeing them work through real stumbling blocks that irl relationships often have to deal with, like feeling insecure and trying to overcompensate by taking on extra responsibility, hiding stress to “protect” your partner and adding to their burdens, having an injury rock your entire world with the feelings of helplessness and new limitations and frustrations.

It was fun reading the Cajun accent as my husband is Cajun and I lived near Houma, where Alain is supposedly from, for several years, though I wonder if the authors are as familiar with Louisiana and Cajun/Creole culture as BA Tortuga is with cowboys in general, because there were some details that really threw me, that felt off to me. That being said, he was a fun character and I loved him, Isaac, and Neil.

Together, Alain, Isaac, and Neil fit beautifully, but it takes time, communication, and plenty of chemistry for them to figure out how to make things work. The characters are each, as individuals, easy to care about– you get a good sense of what drives them, their strengths, weaknesses, baggage, and fears– and the author makes it clear, too, what they bring to each other (which includes, but isn’t just, how they work as Dom, switch, and sub). Having read the other books in the series gives a bit of context on the characters, and Alain’s previous traumatic experience, but I do think it’s possible for the story, and definitely the romance here, to stand alone. (That’s not to say you shouldn’t check out the other books in the series, if you haven’t already– they’re also well worth a read.)

Three is a good thing

I don’t know if I would ever be in a relationship with two other people but I love to read about them and this book is a great example of this trope and it’s even better that they are k1nky. Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga write really well together and they think up marvelous situations and characters. My favorite character is Alain and whoever “wrote” the voice that he speaks in is a genius. I was constantly wanting to reread his dialogue out loud just to hear that voice. I really hope that they come out with an audiobook because I would listen just to hear Alain. The care that Issac and Neil take with Alain is touching and the whole story is ultimately very sweet even if parts are hard to read although the details of bad stuff is kept to a minimum. I loved this book.

A wonderful hurt/comfort, Dom/Switch/Sub, MMM romance that curled my toes, had me laughing and crying all the way through. I really liked all three men and enjoyed how they were able to blend their relationships as individual couples and as a throuple.

Isaac and Neil have been together for a while and they both know that their love isn’t enough for Neil. As a switch, Neil needs Isaac’s care and control as a Dom but he also needs his own sub. Isaac is trying to figure out how to keep Neil when he knows he can’t give him everything he needs.

When Alain needs to stay with them for a few days, the shift shows them exactly who they needed. This is a BDSM lite (which is right up my alley-yum) and the focus is much more on them figuring things out. When they need it most, Alain’s strength shines. I so enjoyed this story and these characters just made my heart feel full.

Dr. Isaac Daniels and Detective Neil Thrope are part-time Dom and Sub. Isaac isn't able to give all that Neil needs because Neil is a switch. When Isaac's friend, Master Cyrus, has to go out of town, he asks Isaac if he can look after a client, he's been working with, for a few days. The boy, Alain, was attacked a while ago and Isaac and Neil were involved with the case. When Alain arrives, there's instant chemistry with Isaac. But it's Neil who feels a real need to give the boy what he needs, a Dom.
Can Neil connect with Alain and make it work with Isaac? Can these men build a relationship and navigate all the ups and downs they face? Especially after Neil gets shot and beaten half to death, on the job? This is great story that grabs you from the very first page and ends with a HEA.

Absolutely phenomenal!

This book rocks! The story of Isaac, Neil and Alain is one filled with love, finding missing pieces and a bit of danger. They are all brought together when Alain needs a place to stay for the weekend and Isaac and Neil step in. They will all three find what they need in each other and it is amazing to watch the relationships grow and change as the story unfolds. Neil’s job as a detective will bring danger to their doorstep but by supporting each other, they manage to pull through the worst to get to the other side. Great friends show up along the way to make this story an absolute must read!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Another excellent book in this world of boys and masters. This story features characters we have met before in previous books, but that doesn't mean you need to read the other books to be caught up. Isaac and Neil have had a complicated BDSM relationship due to Neil being a switch. Enter Alain, who Isaac is asked to look after for a while. Alain is the definition of a true boy and gladly wants to serve both Isaac and Neil. This new dynamic brings unexpected changes to Neil and Isaac's relationship, but is it enough to sustain? Between the dramatics of Neil's job and Alain's past that he is still healing from, these three have their work cut out to make this work.

Missing pieces

The situation between Isaac, Neil, and Alain was an interesting one. All of them were missing something/someone in their lives to feel fulfilled, plus Alain was still recovering from trauma (I feel like I need to go read Hide Bound, so I can understand how he got to this point). There was an element of insta love to adding Alain into Isaac and Neil’s stalled relationship, but there was enough communication and compromise that it didn’t feel too off. What did bother me was Neil’s determination to hide other things in his life that threatened what they had. Still, I liked the book and appreciated how much support and help Isaac and Alain provided.

This is a truly stunning triad story. I loved how Alain with all his past pain is able to be the catalyst to bring not only Isaac and Neil closer together but also he becomes very central to being the glue to keep them together. There is drama and trouble with Neil's job that brings them even closer even when Neil is being hard to get along with. There is so much love and this story is so well written these three just make sense. I loved it! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Riveting read! Isaac and Neil are a working Dom/Sup couple. Neil, is a switch so Neil can't meet all of his needs. They have an affinity for each other but realize it's not enough. Alain, a sub is rescued by Isaac and Neil after a bad scene. Alain, meets Neil's needs! Does Isaac have enough love to admit Alain into their relationship? There are naturally occuring twists and turns that enhance the reading experience. Nicely developed characters who are absolutely likeable. Can they make the throuple, work? Great story, well done! I really enjoyed this book. It was such a sweet romance. It felt very realistic in terms of the relationship dynamics, needs, worries, and insecurities. I absolutely loved Isaac, Neil, and Alain. Isaac and Neil were already in a relationship, but Neil wasn't getting everything he needed. Adding Alain to their relationship was the perfect fit. I liked how Alain connected with Neil in spite of the trauma he suffered from a previous relationship. So there's the balance between Isaac and Neil, and then the three of them as a throuple. It was an intriguing read. 4 stars.

Issac is a Dominant in a problematic situation. Neill, his submissive is a switch. And since they are unsure how to address his need to have a boy of his own they have been drifting apart. A call for help from a friend to take in Alain, a submissive recovering from an abusive situation. Alain proves to be the missing piece in their relationship. But just as the men are embarking on a new relationship Neil's job throws a roadblock in their path. I loved that the focus of the story was how important effective communication is to a relationship

It's best to read Hide Bound prior to this book. It may say it's a standalone, but most of Alain's backstory is explained there. I really enjoyed the ongoing story arc, and the developing relationship between Isaac, Neil, and Alain is sweet and enjoyable to read. The kink aspect of the book is well-written, and the storyline develops with some interesting twists and turns. Definitely worth the read.

Alain was what Isaac and Neil needed to solidify their relationship. Isaac and Neil had been on again off again for years. Although Neil was everything Isaac wanted and needed, Isaac was not able to give Neil everything he needed. Alain was such a strong person and had overcome so much. My heart bled for Neil; he loved Isaac so much but needed more. Isaac was so caring, trying to give Neil and Alain the support and guidance they needed. Strong characters and lots of love.

I really enjoyed this book. These authors have a particular talent in creating such endearing, unique characters. I especially loved Alain in this, and how he was the missing piece for Isaac and Neill’s relationship. The plot with Neill and his police work was timely and had great tension which kept me turnythe page. Very engrossing story and I loved the three of them together. Plus, a perfectly lovely happy ending.❤️

Neil and Isaac are a couple but something is missing from their relationship that they find when Alain comes to stay with them. Neil and Isaac love one another and are kind of willing to make do. But in helping Alain, who was staying with friends of their while he healed, they find that they are helping themselves to have a fuller relationship than they had been having. In this case, more is more.
