The Demon King Always Thinks I’m Secretly in Love with Him

Rate this book
Bai Yang is the youngest son of a rich family who grew up spoiled, unambitious and having no one expect anything from him. He doesn’t really mind this though, because he’s still able to live a simple and happy life.

One day, however, his older brother got into an accident and is now in comatose. Bai Yang’s father now has to consider his youngest son to take over the family business. Unfortunately for him, Bai Yang is a weak, timid, and cowardly child. How can he ever succeed?

Wanting to change his son’s personality, the father has Bai Yang transmigrated into the world of Wild Wind, a very famous fantasy novel. Bai Yang’s father hopes the environment of that world will shape his son to be more arrogant and domineering, as a child of a wealthy scion family ought to be.

However, due to an error with the Main System, instead of transmigrating as the protagonist, Bai Yang ends up becoming a cannon fodder villain, Xie Zietian, from the Demon Realm! In order to safely and quickly return to his world, Bai Yang has to ensure that the protagonist, Zhou Ying, ascends to the heavens so his transmigration mission will be complete.

In order to sneak into the human realm and help Zhou Ying, Bai Yang comes up with a variety of excuses to the Demon King of Eternal Night, such as…

Bai Yang, in a dignified manner: “Your Majesty, that person might threaten the demon world. I went to the human world to kill him for you!” (Actually, I went there to meet the protagonist.)

Bai Yang, proclaiming his loyalty: “Your Majesty, hang in there. I will go to the human world to find the elixir for you!” (Actually, I went there to save the protagonist.)

Bai Yang, with an attitude of selfless dedication: “Your Majesty, I just want to go to the human world to further your great cause!” (Actually, I went there to see the protagonist.)

The Demon King’s face remained impassive but, in fact, the tips of his ears were red. He was thinking: I can’t believe he loves me so deeply…

Demon King: “Hmph! Seeing how clingy you are, I’ll accept your love. Tell me! Whatever you need, I’ll give it to you!”

Bai Yang: “****! Your Majesty, I don’t love you.”

Demon King: “No, you love me.”

The Demon King truly believed Bai Yang and he shared a deep mutual love until he discovered that Bai Yang was having an “affair” with a “wild human” …

I must say that I did not read the whole novel, only until chapter 72. I had to drop this reading.

Just like another person said here, I really liked it in the beginning, and the demon king was so nice, I truly liked him. I was actually feeling sorry for the demon king when he'd find out about everything, but now I just can't anymore. His prons don't beat the cons. And I really hate the victim blaming, even Bai Yang was blaming himself for what happened, when the guilty one was clearly the demon king.

I just couldn't continue reading.

I'm mad because the comedy in this book is wonderful and the protagonist is very witty, but... it all went to shit when the romantic interest repeatedly rapes the protagonist. Their relationship is horrible! I'm especially mad because at first the Demon King was wonderful, innocent, and very funny, but he turns into a nasty jealous rapist. And does the protagonist think he is in love? Improbable.

Primera novela del año 😊
Realmente los voy a extrañar!!! Bai Yang y el rey demonio Yong Ye, son un dúo muy cómico!! Y realmente me rompieron el corazón en los últimos capítulos ;-;

¿QUE PASO CON Lou Jiang feng y Zhong Shou???
SUPER F PARA Hua Feihua!!

Solo me queda pensar que pudieron traer de vuelta ese mundo y que todos son felices y comieron perdices ;-;. Porque como dijo Ji Yuan;

Okay, I don't know how to describe my feelings towards this piece of fiction. I honestly didn't really think it was funny or that enjoyable until chapter 35-ish. Like it wasn't bad, but it wasn't peak comedy either.

The MC was a really enjoyable character. He is witty, shy and fun to read about.

I would say that my favourite part was between chapter 35 to chapter 70-ish. 72 was when I started to have issues- aka when they got laid. Just like with many danmeis, once the characters officially get together, the romance becomes unbearable for a little while before it gets better. I was expecting a cute puppy ML who has big D(emon) energy and a big d-
I really enjoyed just reading about their days together, being happy and all.
It wasn't that SA-ish at first, but then it turned into ML fucking MC day in and out while MC not really wanting it and eventually just giving up- which was rather sad to read, ngl. Then later on he was always scared of his partner fucking him- which again, it's not fun to read. I know it was supposed to be seen as comedy, but it just made me feel uncomfortable. Around chapter 85-ish is when we leave them-fucking-all-the-time-town and the story picks up again. The drama was nice, the ending was also really nice and edgy, just how I like it.

I do wish some things would have gotten differently, but I was overall happy reading this. I really wish authors would make both the Mc and Ml want to fuck and not just Ml fucking Mc mindlessly because "they are a couple now and he can't say no if they are" bullshit.

I also wish the Mc' son would have survived the end. Cute virtual son, I'll miss you. But I did laugh my ass off in the scene where Ml told DK and virtual son that he is the father- that was peake comedy. I also loved how virtual son still tried to protect his father dearest, even after knowing that dear daddy is not actually his papa.

So in short: too much rapey-stuff, not enough virtual son

I love the misunderstandings, desperate lying, and wrapper story! The pampering and slow relationship development is very satisfying. This is a fun read without any deep moral. The only criticism I have is that the demon story ending came too quickly and was essentially unresolved.

I think it's a shame that people might be put off from reading this novel because of the slightly lower ratings (tags and a couple reviews should be enough warning for those that dislike dubcon). The novel bashing because of the dubcon/noncon in a fantasy is a bit tiring. Please just be aware that coerced sex would not be OK in real life, no matter how interesting it sounds in a novel. That said, I think it's reasonable to trust other readers to have the intelligence and awareness to not bring fantasy into reality once they know its not acceptable (unless the other party fully consents and has safe words). Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome people are more aware of what true consent should be (and what it isn't). I think it's awesome that people recognize when full consent is not present in novels. But just like how people should be trusted not to go on violent rampages just because they see them in movies, books, video games, etc, I think people can be trusted to not to rape someone because it sounds sexy in a book.

I know his ending is still happy but I CAN'T, my poor baby ;-;

+ the I'm your father arc was hilarious.

It's not a 5* because of 2 things: a pillar and Lou Jianfeng.
- The pillar: THEY SKIPPED A PILLAR. Like there are 4: the 1st one was the Dark Cloud Sect, the 2nd in the north and the 4th in the whatever main sect. Where's the 3rd? Am I high? Did I skip an arc?
- Lou Jianfeng: I mean everybody and their mothers saw that coming, and then he just went puff, after being such a little menace he just went puff. Dunno, kinda disappointing...

I must also add there are barely any secondary characters aside from Zhou Ying (who, as much as I love him, doesn't have much of a personality either).

Still I loved it, it was fluff and pain, but mostly fluff. I'm biased and I know the Demon King is kinda lot toxic but I don't care because his blushes get me, I'm weak to big doggy types and I'M NOT SORRY.

+ mc was kind of an asshole by using him from the beginning.

It isn't a novel for everyone and without my bias it should be a 2* - 3*, less if you dislike this type of ml...
BUT I ENJOYED IT, SUE ME.

First of all, I truly enjoy reading this that I stayed up late to finish it! And the extras are super cute
I think it was tagged properly that there would be r*pe or dub con etc. I just hope people stop complaining that it was shitty due to the r*pe

The ML was a fucking Demon King who didn’t even bother to kill human for his plan! What did you expect he would do for the one he loves? Give flowers? Yes there was also bit gaslighting, forced s*x, and also victim blaming. (I will never support this in real life!) but I think it fits with the plot.

Plus tbh that chapter was censored a lot so no fully details. In addition, afterwards the ML tried to make it enjoyable for the MC.

Well anyway, I didn’t expect to love this one and I did 💗

Rounded up because it made me literally laugh out loud at times. I don't think the plot was particularly interesting or unique or well written nor was the romance as well-developed as I would have liked but it was entertaining and some of the situations and dialogue were hilarious.

Summary: Bai Yang ends up in a game world to practice being more arrogant to take over his family's company but there's a mistake and instead of the protagonist, he ends up as one of the demon king's generals. Bai Yang's actions to keep in character make the demon king think that he's in love with him and in order to help the protagonist so that he can complete his mission and go back home, he lets the demon king believe he loves him. Hilarious situations and love ensue.

from chapter 1-72 i would rate this like 4.5/5. it was very good and the ml is so charming and cute. the ml is always very funny and i enjoyed his character. the ml was very shy towards the mc and had a crush on him so he waited for him to initiate. why would the author make him r@pe the mc?? i just don't understand, its so out of character and leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. it wasn't even dubious consent, afterwards the mc was crying and in pain and was just angry. how is his character supposed to be redeemed after this. and the system just wanted to laugh at him while the mc blamed himself?? i just don't get it, the story was adorable in the beginning and i liked the plot. also yes i did dnf this at chapter 72

slight spoilers // has dub con
This was amazing, it was so funny. It had me laughing bc the MC was just making more and more misunderstandings. The Demon King really thought MC loved him LMAOO.

This was the best until it wasn’t, the dub con by DK and the victim blaming by XL is disappointing. BY was literally crying and XL is still saying what did you expect… The author could’ve done an awkward sex scene where the DK didn’t know what he was doing so he stopped. Idk honestly, but the author could’ve done something different. Instead the author decided to make it hurt and all that gross stuff. The author could’ve at least made DK feel apologetic about what he did, he doesn’t even regret what he did and says he would do it again- ??

Between chapters 70 to 80ish? It went downhill, but the whole sex stuff ruined the romantic feelings and the comedic nature of this book. If you ignore the sex stuff it’s good. But the fact that it wasn’t that one time ruined it. So realistically we can’t ignore it, it just feels gross. It was disappointing bc it was a fun read till all of that happened.

Overall I really enjoy it, it had comedy, tension.
I like how nonsensical some things were, the dynamic between the protagonists.
Xiao Lin i loved her
It did felt kinda rushed but it was entertaining.
Now it did put me off some of the behaviors the demon king had, there was victim blaiming and manipulation that didn't sit right with me also how their first encounter took place.

No smut (censored) but does suggest it Quite a bit of fluff. And interesting plot. Feels like there are some loopholes I'm missing but I can't really point it out..

I totally love it! Many actions, comedy and almost no drama.

Its was so fun and refreshing to read that it’s simply amazing. I really like the story and the characters. There was no way to guess what would be next and that’s nice. We can also clearly see the MC development and changes. And the same goes, but in smaller amount, for the ML.
this couple is so nice.

I also like the world setting. Maybe not all of the things were totally reasonable and logical but we don’t need it here more then there is already.

Fun, refreshing, light. A lot of comedy here, and even if you will cry it will be from how much your laughing. Really recommend this p, especially is you search for some not difficult read.

Totally recommend.
