The most incredible book you will ever find to binge on. Honestly. Check it out sometimes lass, it's free on Webtoon.
I have never read a book that contains so much intense world-weaving and honest characterisation. The plot, the story, the narrative is hooking and gives you shivers and laughter both at the same time. Don't get me started on the artwork. If there was one way to describe Park Tae Jun's craftsmanship it would be destructive. The way he draws is weird, but the weird that brings a smile and stays in your head even after you've read and finished it.
I'm not looking forward to the end of this series at all. Probably because I never want it to end.
Yes, Vasco you cutie ^^
I also understand how there are valid negative opinions on the solutions that are suggested for any bad scenario in the story. When there's a problem? Beat up the Bad Guy. Someone to blame? Blame the Bad Guy.
But what Park Tae Jun does unlike most other narratives is show progression and characteristaion that surpasses the one-track solutions at the end. He shows how the 'Bad Guy' became bad in an understandable, down-to-earth way. No matter how much we may deny it, we could fall through the same holes our villain did to get to a worse of place.
I'm not excusing the rape, harrasment and crime that the villian ends up doing. I'm shedding light on how excellent this book is at opening your eyes a bit wider. I hope Lookism doesn't end anytime soon.
Even though this Lookism isn't done, I hate the message it conveys. At first glance, this comic appears to be discussing the problems with Lookism, or how we judge and treat others by how they look. Sure, we are given COUNTLESS examples of how the "uglier" people are worse off, how they're discriminated against, and how they have fewer chances in life because of how they look.
But what we don't see is how Daniel, Jiho, Duke, and all the other 'ugly' characters DEAL with it themselves when they are discriminated against. It's ridiculous how the strong, 'hot' guys have to save them. Every. Single. Time. Some small, ugly person is being bullied? No biggie. Just let some other guy save them and beat the bully up. Isn't that ridiculous??? This comic basically portrays how the ugly people have no power over themselves and have to rely on others to save them. In fact, the only time Daniel can ever accomplish anything is when he's in his 'perfect' form. He's smart, good-looking, a great fighter.... but in the beginning, when Daniel didn't that form of himself, he was portrayed as dumb, fat, mean, useless... Doesn't this perpetuate lookism instead of stopping it?
Also, I really don't like how the only way these kids can solve problems is with their fists. A bully? Beat them up. Rapist? Beat them up. Discriminatory characters? Beat them up. That was the answer to every single problem. The characters don't use their words, they don't actively try to stop these issues, but they just use violence to solve everything. That's not only portraying the wrong message, but it gets REALLY repetitive over time. The only men that were main characters were the strong, 'manly' men that could fight. Are the only people that matter the ones that can fight?
Additionally, this webcomic barely touches upon the issues that it faces. Sure, it explores lookism and its impacts, but how about rape, extortion, sexual abuse, bullying, slut-shaming, fat-shaming, insanity, and stalking? These are all issues that the various characters deal with. And yet it's not seriously explored, not even in a mature fashion. Someone was almost raped, and the next day she was back to normal. These are serious issues, not something to be romanticized. If these are issues this comic touches upon, then talk about it! Ignoring it for the sake of continuing the plot is a horrible way to deal with things in the story.
Okay, now what was with the women. The main female characters are all 'hot', giggly, and don't appear to talk about anything other than their boyfriends. Whenever one of them gets into a problem, can they solve it themselves? No. They have to wait for the strong, manly men to beat the other guy up and romantically rescue them. This is just soooo problematic. I hate it when women are either portrayed as sexually permissive, dumb, psycho, or 'strong' but always needing to be rescued by their hot boyfriends. In fact, the only time one of the girl characters actually appear is when there's a guy... UGH.
Not to mention how the line between good and bad is so freaking obvious. All the characters are either 'good' or 'bad', never is there a gray area. When a comic touch on such serious issues, they need to explain what made these bullies and rapists so problematic in the first place. Being simply good or bad doesn't cut it.
Overall... this was horrible. (Yay, now the rating is below Worm's rating. I was annoyed at that. )
WARNING SPOILER CONTAIN READ AT YOUR OWN WILL YOU'VE BEEN WARN
"Lookism" that's a really unique name for a book when i first saw the title of the book i predicted that it would be about something related to looks and it caught my attention. After reading the first chapter it made me want to continue reading it and i can't stop myself from not reading it, its like im addicted to it. Lookism is about a bunch of teenager with the concept of the weak and "ugly" get bully while the strong and beauty/handsome is at the top.
Daniel Park is the main character he started off as physically/mentally weak and he was "ugly" later on as the book progresses his character also progresses which is what i really like about the book, the character progression is very good. Daniel lives with his mom and they live a poor live, he was always bullied and was a "slave" at school for the logan. Daniel was traumatized by logan, later on Daniel move school and somehow he have 2 bodies now, one is handsome and very strong and the other body was daniel orginally body that was weak and "ugly". how this work is that if Daniel uses one body the other one goes to sleep its like they're resting so Daniel uses his handsome body in the daytime to go to his new school while he uses his ugly body at night to work so he could earn money and support himself without depending on his mom. Daniel made alots of friends thanks to the handsome body but it was also his kind personalities that make people adores him, he wasnt being bully because if how he look anymore he is also strong now so he can protect himself. Daniel learned alot of things and he has good influence on people around him.
I was interested on how Daniel character progression. At first i thought that once he'll become handsome and strong he'll be like other and bully the weak but no he did not not become a bully instead he made friends with those who got bully and he also defend them its really cool to see that he has become more strong not only physically but also mentally. As the story progress he has came to an acceptance of his weak body. This book have a theme of self love and self acceptence.
This Book is very relatable and eye opening i can relate to this book alot. This books shows that you may think look is everything at first but the personality is what really counts. i've learn quite a few things from this book i hope you can learn something from it too. If you like a slice of life, drama, and action this book is definately waiting to be read by you.
This webcomic excels in all aspects that makes a comic worth reading. Not only is the art impressively detailed and the characters beautiful, the action/fight scenes are always impressively realistic. There are an tremendous amount of chapters devoted to the main character's backstory, as well as other storylines that delve into the secondary cast; the overall effect is that you really feel a genuine connection to them. I can easily say that this is one of the best comics I've ever read in my life. At almost 90 chapters it does not seem anywhere close to being finished, and I'm eager to find out where the journey leads!
I swear The downfall of Lookism needs to be studied because if you told anyone who knows me that THIS was my favourite manhwa/Webtoon back like, five years ago, they would laugh at you
This started out really good but then I got tired of the plot around episode 200. I just felt like pretty Daniel was getting way too much plot attention and the story changed into Daniel and his friends just beating people up in every episode. At first, the critique of a superficial society was interesting and somewhat nuanced but now I feel like it has become what it used to criticise. The main problem however, is the stagnant plot. Yes, there are LOADS of things going on and a ton of sad stories, but there is no sense of direction in the plot. Where is Daniel going? What does he want?
Despite his synopsis, Lookism is a story that deals with many serious topics such as bullying, domestic violence, sexual violence (implied but never explicitly shown), gang fights and poverty. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But do not let this discourage you from reading it. This is a story about growing up, about learning to accept yourself and let others help when you need it. It’s a story that reminds us that it’s always darkest before the dawn and that we are never as lonely as we think. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Besides this, is not all drama. Lookism has some of the best comedy I’ve ever read so I assure you you will laugh as much as you’ll cry. Hope you give it a chance!
I loved the premise at first (high school kid wakes up with 2 bodies) but now it's just weird, why is there so much gang stuff?? I wish we could find out why he has 2 bodies.
Pensé que el día donde por fin pudiera estar al día con este manhwa nunca llegaría. Pero lo logré 💪🏻 Me quedé en el capítulo 403.
Nunca, pero nunca, not even in my wildest dreams, pensé que iba a disfrutar tanto este manhwa. Es una locura lo fenomenal que es. La historia es sumamente original y entretenida, y los personajes son re entrañables (JAY TE AMO I WOULD LITERALLY KILL FOR YOU VOLVE QUE TE EXTRAÑO).
Bro. I need his backstory now.
Can i just say that this is one of my ultimate favorite webtoon? For real! Reading this makes you feel like a better person. Makes you wanna be a better person.
It has discussed various issues like bullying, fighting, religion, fashion, pets, etc. it's all very interesting.. and damn, i love the artwork😍
And how the story is going. I'm already up to date. Haha let's just say that this story goes.. is that the main character has 2 bodies😏
It hasn't finished publishing yet but I can say that's the sweetest heart-warming manhwa that I've ever read. It makes me rethink of all my action and how it really can leave a mark on other's life too, great reading for the start of the year! -edit- It gets pretty repetitive, so turns out it's an ok manhwa
OKAYYYY. after reading this for a whole month, i’ve finally caught up with all of the available chapters on webtoon. and OH.MY.GOD???? please i need help because i’m actually losing my mind over this. i’m beyond biased. every single character feels so freaking alive and real because each of them are given proper care by the author. they all have backstories and most of them have character development.
i just finished reading the chapter where eli broke down after his fight with vasco. please. my heart is in literally in shambles. they are so alive and real to me. like they are my friends. AND HOSTEL ????????????? MY FREAKING FAMILY. DONT EVEN TOUCH ME. lets not even talk about big deal because i will cry. jake, sinu, jerry, luah, and all of the other big deal members mean so so so much. i was crying shaking when sinu got his memories back. and johan my babygirl i love him so much. allied are loml. zoe, mira, duke are my precious babies. i live for all the dramatic entrances gun, goo and samuel make aafhefhgfhefvg i love lookism. best thing that happened to me this year
i actually read lookism way back then, around 2019, but i was too young to understand all the subjects and issues about today’s modern society this book touched on. now i’m 19. and i read lookism this month and it felt like a huge slap i’m dont even kidding. i couldn’t put my phone down. it was addicting. the main strength of this story, imo, is probably its characters. i can go on and on talking and rambling just about how park taejun’s a damn genius when he writes his characters

Ongoing webcomic/webtoon series with no clear end in sight. //So far I'm on chapter 212, which is the most recently added chapter as of today (11 January). //
The premise is that Daniel Park, a short, unattractive boy switches schools after severe bullying, suddenly wakes up with a second, more conventionally attractive body. Over the span of 200-so chapters, he's learning to improve himself in various ways, learning self-defence, exercising, and challenging his own, and others' prejudices against him and others as he tries to find answers as to WHY he was given the second body.
I love this comic, and it's easily one of my all-time favourites. Each main character (and even some supporting characters) has their own back-story and development as the story goes.
Also, the author's artwork on this is fantastic. The facial features are very diverse, and expressive. I don't think I've ever seen such a wide range of facial expressions (the exaggerated 'Ugly' faces contrasting to the beautiful, soft 'pretty' faces.) and features in a single comic before.
Their art improvement softens the features of some characters (Zoe, and Mira, especially) as the story progresses. Also, the characters look noticeably Asian, something I don't see very often even in Asian comics. It's beautiful.
Also, I ship Daniel (both short and tall bodies) with Jay, or Short-Daniel with Zoe.
when i started this manhua my biggest question was am i ready to commit to an ongoing webtoon with 350+ episodes?
it started off so good with a promising story but i should've known better. this webtoon began in the middle of 2017 and... is still ongoing.
read it all the way till episode number 135 and finally decided to just dnf it.
a very common theme i've noticed with high school graphic novels is that the female characters are always drawn in a way that's meant to sexualise them even though they're literally seventeen years old. this comic was no exception. all the female protagonists were meant to be eye candy and something the male characters should save when they get kidnapped.
135 episodes in and there were just some side stories that (A) didn't forward the plot at all and (B) didn't cause ANY character development.
there are much better webcomics to read on webtoon and i'd suggest not wasting your time reading this. thanks.
Wow, so I'm all caught up on this - it was 318 chapters, and when I was reading the wikipedia it said that it's 15 volumes and that it started in 2014. If only I could put each separate volume into my goodreads challenge...
So basically the story takes a 180 from the initial lighthearted premise of waking up with two bodies to gang wars and martial arts, and you know what? This is not my first martial arts manhwa so I'm totally down for it.
I love all the complex characters... EXCEPT certain characters the author just couldn't leave alone and that everyone hates. Like, I read the top comments on each chapter on webtoons and there's a few where everyone's just like...this guy again?
Personally, I miss Daniel being front and center. The most recent arc I've read was about Jake Kim, and while it was good, it was also extremely long. I want more Daniel and I also love Jay.
I think I'll let this build up for a few months before going back to it.
this is actually on hiatus rn, because it got so borinng and dragged out that i just couldn't keep up :,)) will pick it up again in the future tho, so rating subject to change again
2023: first started, 3.5 stars (rounded to 4)
the entire webcomic is on webtoon for free and i totally recommend it. later chapters do have more of a shift in focus on fighting snd fighting techniques but even then it’s not the only thing we get to see. the social issues of discrimination, fatshaming, and the likes are heavily dissected in the beginning, and i genuinely think the actions are very believable. the character interactions are what shines the most for me though and thankfully the manhwa never loses that. you can check out the anime adaptation on netflix for a little taste, see if this is for you
This webcomic is ongoing. The current episodes would be 209. I think is a really good webcomic I've read so far. There is a guy named Daniel Park who was bullied severely. Logan Lee, the bully, made him a pikachu. Unfortunately Daniel was bullied since middle school. When he ran away from his problems, he asked his mother to change school to elsewhere(Seoul). Before the first day of school, a so call miracle arrive. He woke up, but in another body. How can this be? His original body was fat and ugly, on the other hand this body was handsome. He can't believe his eyes. The original body stay remained asleep. What happened? Why two bodies suddenly? Are there more of like this?
From the very start I enjoyed reading it. If you like lots of action, drama. I didn’t give it a five star rating because I thought there was too much aggressive Language, fighting. I also thought it would be more of a drama but there was a lot of horror. The rest was perfect 👍🏻. I suggest you read “ lookism”
Absolute best! I know it's not technically a book, but I don't care - this is my favourite book! The characters, plot, absolutely everything! I'm obssesed. I re-read it three times already and I am excided for each new episode. Also, stan Mary Kim, our underated queen!
