Love on Palmar Island #3

Caring For Grace

Rate this book
A single dad trying to find his way away from his career, a babysitter with too much on her shoulders, and the adorable nine-month-old who brings them together.

Dr. Parker Flagg needs help with his daughter, Grace. After handling raising her by himself while teaching physics, he’s reached his limits. He finds himself back home on Palmar Island, trying to get his feet back under himself with the help of his mother and the small southern community he grew up in.

When a friend asks him to help out at the local high school, he agrees under one condition. He needs a reliable nanny to care for Grace.

Robin Warren hasn’t had the easiest upbringing. She’s making the best of it, taking any job she can to cobble up enough money to attend the local community college part time. When she hears about a babysitting job that allows her to continue her class, she jumps at the chance.

What neither of them expected was the instant attraction they felt. Maneuvering the fine line between professional relationship and budding love is hard enough in a small southern town where gossip runs rampant. But when Parker’s ex-wife shows up out of the blue and wants back into Parker and Grace’s life, all bets are off.

Caring For Grace is a clean contemporary beach romance with a HEA and no cliffhangers.

Susanne Ash writes sweet contemporary romance. When she's not busy putting pen to paper, she loves to cook, knit, and head out exploring with her husband and daughter. It felt like the book was missing several chapters. There were a lot of loopholes and missing informations. Where does Liza go ? When does Robin know that Parker got her a scholarship for college ? Why was Robin’s mother out of her meds when several chapters before we know that Robin bought them for her ? How could they fall in love in two weeks after dining together once ? So many questions, zero answer !

I have never read a book with more plot holes and less clarity. I truly didn’t know what was going on a lot of the time.

If you like contemporary romances but want them clean, this books for you. Parker and Robin have an immediate attraction to each other when he hires her as Grace's nanny. This is part of the Love on Palmar Island Series but can be read as a standalone. If you read any of the other books in the series you'll catch up with some old friends. The characters are well developed and likable. Robin is such a good person who works several jobs to keep up her parents. The bond that grew between the three of them was heartwarming. Some drama when the ex shows up in town. Love in a small Southern town where everyone often knows more of your business than you do. I read a complimentary copy via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.

A sweet tale of two damaged people who find love while caring for a child. The characters are well written and you could really feel the personal struggles they each encountered. I loved Robin, she was such a sweetheart and her never give up attitude really spoke to me.

Robin may have started out as just Grace’s nanny, but Parker soon discovers that she is way more than that to him and his little girl.

She may be struggling to keep her parents a float, working multiple jobs and studying but she has a good heart and a sweet disposition that draws Parker and others to her.

In this book you will meet up with old friends like Simon and Miss Doris, characters that will keep you up to date and entertained.

I received this as a complimentary copy and I am giving my honest review voluntarily

I thought this was a cute story about second chances. I liked how supportive Parker and Robin are of each other as they each figure out what is important to them. I liked the sense of community on the Island and some of the fun characters. I also liked that there were moments of struggle for the characters because then they seemed more believable.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

Story Notes

I enjoyed this sweet story about finding love unexpectedly. Robin and Parker were both good characters with plenty to figure out and that made them relatable. The slow burn romance was a nice touch as well because I usually find the "nanny trope" to be either totally unrealistic or totally inappropriate. Here, we were given an entirely wonderful story about two people finding a home and a place to belong with each other. The only thing I didn't like about the story was Parker's mom, Lynne. She was entirely too overreaching with her opinions and actions. I get that Robin didn't want to stir up trouble but I would have definitely told Lynne off for the things she said about Robin's family. She didn't even know the real story and she was using untrue rumors to base her opinions on. And I didn't like her half-hearted apology either that didn't really seem like it would change things in the future. It was like, "Well, I'm sorry, BUT....." Those are the worse apologies and they are never truly meant. But the rest of the story was really wonderful and I loved how things ended up. I'll be curious to see how the next story in the series goes. Skye and Ben definitely have some work to do to repair their marriage.

I received this temporary complimentary E-book from Susanne Ash via Bookfunnel. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review but am pleased to do so. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

The plot of the book was cute: a girl becomes a nanny for a single father who is a college professor taking a sabbatical in his home town. Romance ensues with a HEA. It was a good, easy read. However, the writing left a lot to be desired. This felt like an initial draft of a book, not something that was ready to be published. The events were all jumbled. Something was mentioned at the 60% mark in the book that didn’t happen until the 90% mark. This book just needs a really thorough edit and rewrite.

Also, despite this being a “romance” novel, the romance seemed almost forced. The would kiss, then forget that they kissed and have their first kiss again a few chapters later, then nothing is happening, then all of the sudden they are dating, then they decide to take it slow, then they’re dating again, then they break up…it was exhausting trying to figure out what was happening. Again, this just seemed to be the author forgetting what had happened in previous chapters.

So, the story idea was cute and I wanted to know what happened to the characters, but unfortunately that’s the only reason I finished the book. I feel so weird writing this because I’ve only ever given 2 stars to one other book in my life… 😅😅 You’ll see people complain about books that it reads like a first draft, but this one really did. There were so many inconsistencies, the characters would know things they shouldn’t, it’d skip over all the important talking or interactions and just suddenly start chapters or scenes out of nowhere, the first kiss came from the left field and was so awkward and dumb, the characters acted over dramatic for no reason, and the writing was very basic and hard to read. Baby Grace was super cute and I liked the idea of the nanny and single dad falling in love, but sadly it just wasn’t executed well. I would’ve DNF this book if I hadn’t DNF one right before it 😅

Dr Parker Flagg returns to Palmer Island with his young daughter, Grace to recover from his divorce. While there he takes a part time job teaching at the local high school, but then needs someone to care for his daughter, so hires Robin Warren as nanny. His mother is against his hire, but Grace loves her. As they get to know each other, He realizes he is falling for her, but keeps doing things that she doesn’t approve of. This is a heartwarming story of love, working together, communication, and trust.

He needs a nanny for his daughter - after his wife literally handed her over and left. He finds a woman through a friend. She really needs the money is very willing to help. And she falls in love with Grace. And it goes very well - until they start have feelings for each other . . . .superb book. LOVED, LOVED it.

This book was definitely an easy read. The characters were sweet and the romance was simple. I find it hard to believe that anyone would just let a stranger come up to them and their baby and "help" but maybe I'm just too scared of others. Grace's "mother"? Can get lost. That felt like a forced story line and didn't need to be a part of their story but it's okay. Simple and cute read! <3

Love for family can be overbearing.

Some wonderful characters in this story. Sometimes families can be a burden but love endures and the rewards are so fulfilling.
A sweet and touching love story that I enjoyed very much.

Upbeat and a quick read, very refreshing

Although this is not my normal genre, I enjoyed it very much. Life doesn't always go as planned and sometimes we have to give things a chance.

Love is not about just your wants and dreams

Don't let one mistake cause you to miss out on happiness. When you love someone you'll should be willing to do whatever it takes to make it work. This is a great story about comprising and supporting another person's dream.

College professors and nannies! A chance meeting in a park and helping to clean a baby up for a single father goes a couple of steps further.
A great story that takes place in a favorite area of mine.
