Carolina thought her past was buried until someone dug it up.
Just when her life seems to be on the verge of normalcy, Private Investigator Carolina McKay receives a mysterious envelope in the mail. Inside is a photograph of a field with GPS coordinates. And one very cryptic “Wish you were here.”
Upon receiving the clue, Carolina heads to Western Maryland and unearths a mass grave. Five members of a single family, all of whom went missing decades earlier.
Their nightmare might have ended years ago, but hers is just beginning. Soon, more photos arrive and more graves are uncovered.
A madman with a penchant for killing families has eluded capture for years. A madman who is now taunting Carolina and drawing her into the investigation. A madman who has a new family in his sights.
When new victims vanish, Carolina teams up with FBI Agent Baden Mulrooney to solve the case. Can they stop the monster before more bodies are left in his wake, or will it be Carolina who ends up in a nameless grave?
A professional photographer, writer and fan of general weirdness (both real and imagined), Tony has traveled tens of thousands of miles seeking out everything from haunted locations, UFO crash sites and monsters like Bigfoot and the Mothman. In a previous life, he worked in the independent movie industry but he finds his current career much more exciting.
Tony's first writing memory involves penning a short story about taking a road trip with his best friend and his dog (two different creatures) to watch KoKo B Ware in a professional wrestling event in Pittsburgh. He wrote that epic saga while in the 3rd grade and it was all downhill from there. His first books were a series of o)eat travelogues but recently his zombie apocalypse series, "Life of the Dead" has been a bestseller online and grossed out readers all over the world. His ultimate goal in life is to be killed by a monster thought by most to be imaginary. Sasquatch, werewolves, chupacabras, he’s not picky. If that fails, he’d enjoy making a living as a full time writer. Which of those two scenarios is more likely is up to the readers to decide.
Drew Strickland and Tony Urban add more intrigue to this series with another well-paced novel. Carolina McKay has been able to settle down, at least somewhat, and is enjoying life. When she receives a photo with some GPS coordinates on the back, she is pulled into a horrific crime scene. Someone is taunting her, repeatedly sending her coordinates. At one point, her past police work is called into question, while a killer lurks in the shadows. Strickland and Urban have outdone themselves with this piece, which is a perfect addition for series fans.
Life is finally appearing to have some sense of regularity and calm for Carolina McKay. The private investigator has been living at Valhalla, a ski resort owned by her current love interest, Nikloaus Winter. When Carolina receives a mysterious piece of mail with a photo and GPS coordinates on the back, she is baffled, yet intrigued. The message taunts her and Carolina must investigate, stumbling upon a mass body dump when she arrives.
The bodies belong to a family that have been missing for years. This rural part of Maryland offers no clues, but sends Carolina into a spiral, particularly when the FBI becomes involved. Her PI senses are on fire and Carolina is able to get herself added to the investigative team, though she is on a tight leash.
More photos and dump sites emerge, pushing Carolina to her limit, none more than a family who have a particular connection to Carolina. During a past undercover case with Baltimore PD, Carolina put away a cult leader for the murders, but all that is now proven wrong. As the FBI ramps up its investigation, Carolina’s abilities are called into question and she begins burning more bridges, forcing others to distance themselves. The killer seeks to lure her in and soon Carolina will have no one to protect her. Strickland and Urban deliver a chilling story sure to keep the reader enthralled.
This series has kept me highly entertained from the outset, never losing its allure for me. The authors develop a well-grounded narrative that presents a great story and builds from there. There is always something to keep the reader entertained and ready to explore new avenues, even as backstories mesh with new developments. Strickland and Urban have found their groove with many of the characters, particularly Carolina McKay, who stands out as a confrontational and edgy woman trying to get back on her feet. Other individuals pepper the story with their own flavouring and allow the reader to connect with them. Plot points help to provide needed twists and surprises, which add to the reading experience from beginning until the final page turn. Strickland and Urban have a good thing going and I cannot wait to see where they take things from here.
Kudos, Messrs. Strickland and Urban, for a piece that pulls no punches.
Very grusome story. It starts with Carolina getting an anonymous pic of a field with GPS coordinates on the back. Once there she discovers an entire family in a grave and she and Max narrow down the possibilites quickly. A few days later another pic arrives with the same result.
Who is sending this & why. Meanwhile, we are taken along by Kenny (the doer) and his morbid facinations for a family (the stalking/killing etc). It is really disgusting.
Carolina is on the outs with Nic (from the previous book) and gets in with an FBI Agent Baden who seems too good to be true- how could she be so blind- he seemed off from the start.
The ending has a bad twist that sucks you in to the next book if you want to find out what happens to Carolina (not a fan of being left hanging)!.
Wow. These guys are good. What a series. I couldn't turn the pages quick enough. Talk about a jaw dropping twist. Carolyn has been relentless in the trenches alone but the one time she decides to be a team player it bites her in the ass. Suspenseful, dark plot, sociopaths, so many twists my head was about to explode. If you love criminal minds you'll absolutely love this series. I'm so distraught that I have to wait so long for the next book. Hurry up already...
WARNING!! Start this series ONLY if you have time to complete it!! Because I promise you won't be able to put them down once you start reading them ! I literally read the entire series in 5 days. (A girl's gotta eat & sleep sometimes) Carolina McKay is one bad as heroine. Try it for yourself & see what I'm talking about.
I’ve read two series, and they are wonderful keeps you on your toes and you can’t guess who the killer was. But I’m disappointed in the proofreader as a reading fiend I find a lot of mistake ,too many for such a great writer. Keep up good work and keep them coming
A somewhat gruesome story as all of these authors Calolina McKay books have been. The story moves along well and keeps you interested. Good description of the characters, some humor and lots of twists and turns. Would be more palatable if not so gory. I have one more book to read in the series.
Carolina didn’t see this coming and neither did I!
Carolina McKay is trying to put her life back together. She’s off drugs, is now a licensed private investigator, and has now been drawn into the hunt by another serial killer. Her past comes at her with a vengeance and this may be the case that is the end of her.
This is an exciting thriller. The ending is great suspense. I could not put this book down. I hope the next book will be out this year. The suspense is a lot to wait for. I highly recommend this book.
This book has to be the best built up storyline in Carolina's life. The ending is shocking, sad, and brings every part of the story together in an unbelievable conclusion. The wait for the next book will be too long. I have definitely given this a 5 star rating!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This one was a bit gruesome for me but I got through the tough parts to be wowed by the twist at the end that I did not anticipate! Ends on a cliffhanger so now I MUST read the next one to see what happens next.
Every book in this series is intense! Love the characters, the writing, the suspense! All of it!! If this is the first book you've read, you HAVE to go back and start with Book 1. One of the best series I've ever read. Looking forward to April.
Well this book was full of up and downs. It certainly didn't turn out the way I thought, but had a very crazy ending. Guess I will have to wait for the next book to see what happens to Caroline.
I have read all but the last of the Elven Hailey series. I can hardly wait for the next one. I have read the first 4 of the Carolina McKay series. I can not put these down!!!
