The first train to arrive in High Level Alberta was in 1963. The Mackenzie Highway (Highway 35)
started to be built in 1938 from Grimshaw Alberta and eventually made its way through High Level on to Hay River NWT. In the 1960s the oil industry grew the area of Peace River and north. These notes cover the history of the area mainly from the 1950s to the 1970s. There are lots of clippings, stories and articles that give a good sense of what life was like in NW Alberta.
