Colin is fresh out of high school and working at his first job. He's the dishwasher at a summer camp. It's a crappy job but he needs the money. He makes friends with one of the counselors who tells him about his last summer job working as a guide on a whitewater rafting outfitter, and in fact, the place is looking for someone to work there for the rest of the summer. Colin jumps at the idea and a few days later he's getting off an airplane in Colorado. There is a gorgeous kid holding a sign that says, COLIN on it. He meets Brody, the most beautiful boy he's ever seen. Brody starts to teach Colin about rafting and soon they find out that they have more in common that loving the outdoors. They realize they are going to be much more than friends.
Unbelievably amateurish. This is nothing but teen-based erotica ... and bad erotica at that. Ngl, I've read much better on Nifty(dot)org. Seriously, it reads like a pubescent boy wrote out his private fantasy. In addition, the editing is horrible or completely non-existent. If you're considering this, absolutely lower your expectations to rock bottom or, better yet, go find something more interesting at Nifty. Ugh! 😣
A river runs through the mountains and has a wild life of its own as it flows and tumbles through beautiful scenery and often hauls large inflatable boats to remote sandy beaches as people combine a visit to the best wilderness settings for white water rafting.
When the seasons change, the river still has some flow, but everything is white water snow covered and the river goes into hiding below the ice.
But the white skin of the boys operating the rafting is well tanned when not skinny dipping in the white water, and buried in wet and cold weather gear in the times they go for more wood.
They have their love for each other and their abandoned dog. It is an easy life that they are building together. Just thinking about being together is the most exciting thing that they could want. Each other in the wilderness with their love of the wood that expresses their feelings and the water of the river running through it.
I'd love to give this a better rating. I really would. It's a sweet, sensitive, coming of age story told from the perspective of a young couple, one of whom's father has had a stoke and he's thrust into managing the family business, a whitewater rafting guide business, at just 19 years old. He hires another young man of about that age, and soon they're experimenting with gay sex together. All well and good, except that the son doesn't show near the normal level of emotion over his father's illness, despite the fact that he seems to have had a close, loving relationship with him.
The novel is riddled with typos and grammatical errors. "Extasy?" Really? Especially at the front there is a lot of telling rather than showing. In one sequence, where a fraternity group books a trip and brings along a couple coolers of beer, there is an obvious opportunity for the protags to rescue the frat boys from an alcoholic disaster on the river in the wilderness, but it never happens. Keep in mind that the protags are under drinking age themselves, so there even being alcohol on that trip is legally problematic to begin with.
Despite all this it was a fun diverting read. Perhaps, as a 65 year old I'm not the target audience for this book, but I'd think it's flaws in terms of grammar, typos, and character motivation would be clear to a younger audience as well.
This was a fun little story. Lots of rafting, a Found doggie. No real Danger or threat, except the illness and death of a parent. The relationship was fun. There was a lot sex but not a lot of passion. Well they they’re late teens so it was appropriate. I did enjoy the story. Recommended
Who knew that washing dishes at a summer camp could lead to spending the winter cuddling your boyfriend in a winter wonderland along side a river. Fun story.
Couple paragraphs of story, two of sex…lather, rinse, repeat. I’ll read anything but this left me nonplussed. It fails to build any suspense and doesn’t build to any significant emotions.
This was a fun, short story that I really enjoyed reading. It could use some editing for spelling, since spell check doesn't catch when the incorrect word is used. But still worth the read 😊
