Hector, a young man who has invoked the dark powers that allow him to conjure demons, is sought by his mysterious mentor while he finds shelter with a young orphan and a nun.
I’m already sad to have finished this so quickly. A bit chaotic of a read, at times the art and dialogue clashed to the point of confusion. However, it was still enjoyable. They should have continued with the series, but seeing that it came out in 2005, and it is now the year 2020, it’s safe to say it is unlikely a continuation will surface. It’s unfortunate because Curse of Darkness had so much potential. It makes me wonder if the creators of the Castlevania Netflix series felt the same way and so took liberties to expand upon the Hector and Isaac roles in depth. There is even a cameo of St. Jermaine the alchemist in this second book, although it was enigmatic and somewhat moot. It is also reminiscent of Alucard’s story which I will not give away. It happens at the end. Hopefully one day, Castlevania stories will prevail once again since the game franchise has died off completely.
Great artwork, but the story is a little difficult to follow. I read this because I enjoyed the Netflix series so much, and this is VERY loosely tied to that series. A fast-pace story as we delve into Hector's history and misgivings, interesting, but doesn't really "say" much. Rough ending, and I wish there were more volumes (it says to be continued, but I don't believe it ever was.)
Better than the first volume. The story flows at a better pace and the dialogue and art are easier to follow. The action picked up, but we didn't get to see the Belmont in action. Too bad this ended on a cliffhanger with the next volume failing to appear.
More gripping than the first volume, but still not that amazing. I liked finding out about Hector's past, and want to know more. However, I'm upset that we'll never get the third volume in English. Because the volume ends on a cliffhanger, just when things start to really get interesting.
I liked the insight this volume provided into the events before the game, especially Hector's past and the source of the antagonism between him and Isaac.
