unfortunately disappointing!

it seems like we all thought this would be new adventures for our beloved mando, maybe even some stories that could take place before the show.
no, just a speed run adaptation of the show which isnt the worst thing ever but ehhh!

i can only assume the next 7 comics will be the rest of S1 & S2 in comic form.

2 out of 5 :/

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, lawlessness has spread throughout the galaxy. The Mandalorian travels ever onward, with an unshakable code of honor. This is the Way...

This is basically ❝The Mandalorian❞ TV series made into a comic, and a summary of each episode from ❝The Mandalorian❞ is made into a comic issue, and there are no new stories in it.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian (2022-2023) #1 = ❝The MandalorianS1.E1 ∙ Chapter 1: The Mandalorian❞.

I have spoken.

Don’t read it if you haven’t watched the TV series first, if you don’t want to see all of the spoilers.

Species age differently. Perhaps it could live many centuries.

Grogu is the cutest character and one of the best if not the best character in the TV series, and the TV series is definitely worth watching only for his cuteness. The comic version of Grogu could definitely be cuter and it sadly doesn’t live up to the cuteness of Grogu in the TV series.

"I liked it." - 3 out of 5 star rating.

So... yeah, this is another 'adaptation' series, aka a 1:1 copy of the original content (film/show) just translated into comic book form. I feel like that should be part of the title to be fair and set expectations to readers. "Star Wars: The Mandalorian Comic Book Adaptation (2022-2023) #1" ... there, fixed.

The biggest issue with these adaptions is pacing. Unless you are going to do a 30+ issue comic book series, these are naturally forced to go at a drastically faster rate than their big screen counterparts. This is no different, feeling like its flying by at 3x speed.

As a huge Mandalorian fan who has watched the show 3 times now at the time of this review, so much key dialog and crucial content is missing from this issue... hard for me to give this above a 3. I get it though - this is how comic adaptations go.

Either way, this will be a light-weight series at only eight (8) issues and I am sure it'll be a fun ride.

Onward to #2.

why did they have to draw grogu to look like a literal friggn demon.

When they first announced a Mandalorian comic series, I thought we would be getting more content or backstories but this was basically just a really fast-paced retelling of the first episode of the series, to my disappointment. The art is gorgeous (except for Grogu) and I do think the series looks beautiful on paper but it didn't really have enough time and space to breathe for most of the scenes. I will continue reading purely because of my love for Din Djarin though <3

I don't even mind that I've already seen this story in the show: this comic was amazing. Jeanty provides his usual good art and I think I'm going to like reading this series. I held out slim hope that it would be original content, but they are saving that for Season 3. lol Worth a look for any fan of the show or Star Wars comics.

Well, that was disappointing. I guess I should have read the solicit more carefully, as I didn’t realize this is just an adaptation of the show. I was looking forward to a NEW Mando story, so this really fell flat for me. Nice cover art, though!

Went in knowing this was an adaptation of the first episode, and it was...fine, I guess? Not really anything new added, and the art style is just serviceable to me. Feels weird getting this 3 years after season 1 came out.

It’s a fun enough comic. It’s just a rehash of the episode of the series, just told more quickly in a bit less detail. I was hoping for new stories in comic form. At $5.00 each, I’d rather have new adventures than ones I’ve already watched.

This was a heat of the moment splurge buy. I was kind of hoping that the series would have more side stories, prequel, or delve more into the story during the show. This more so hit the plot points from the show and didn't really add any nuisance to the characters.

nothing new

This was basically just a pilot scene for scene. If you seen the episode, this doesn’t add anything to the story. If you haven’t seen it, and you don’t have access to Disney+, this would be a great thing. However, I will not continue the series

This is literally the first episode of the show which annoys me and the art isn’t my fav.

I think many got fooled thinking this series would be new stories. All SW gets adaptations so I'm not mad plus it reminds me of how good the show is which is overdue for another viewing.

Mando ha vuelto!! Si te gustó la serie, vas a amar el comic.

Es una buena historia, y eso se lo comprueba al dar el salto a otra plataforma y lograr un buen enganche.

Brief. I agree that there were parts that could have been expanded on more, but ultimately I enjoyed it very much.
