This novel is inspired by the Chinese Danmei novels, and the romance is between two men.
When Jiang Yao first encountered Luo Xiao, the young boy resembled a piece of white paper. He was pure and untainted by the greed and despair of the outside world. Even so, the demon was moving forward, little by little and introducing various colors to this unblemished blank piece of paper, and slowly it turned into the most vivid and breathtaking painting.
Luo Xiao's path takes him on a journey across the continent with the purpose of tempering himself through bloodshed and battle. By his side is Jiang Yao, a deadly guardian angel, ready to protect him in times of need, but after understanding the beauty of the diverse world, Luo Xiao is not longer willing to merely be protected and stay away from all approaching dangers.
As the vast world allows Luo Xiao to embrace his future, he now aspires to stand at the top of the world alongside the Seventh Demon Prince, fighting to carve a path forward with relentless fierceness, ignoring fatigue and pain.
I am Tinalynge, an aspiring author who is deeply inspired by eastern fantasy such as wuxia, xianxia, and xuanhuan. The first story I wrote was Blue Phoenix, a series I poured my very heart and soul into creating.
Since I started writing, I have finished Blue Phoenix at eight books, Overthrowing Fate at three books and began Condemning the Heavens. Although I have finished two series so far, I still consider myself a beginner in the world of writing. I am aware that my writing still needs to evolve and grow to become better, and as a result, I work very hard daily to improve my writing and produce stories that people can enjoy reading.
Thank you, everyone, who has read my books, I am sure that with your continued support I will be able to continue improving and create worlds filled with wonder and excitement.
I am so TORN about this series. So let's start with the positive. The author(s) have a vision. They know where the story is going, and the plot has been pretty consistent. There's no real glaring plotholes as far as I can tell, and everything seems to come back full circle. The plot itself is interesting enough. though fairly generic. But that's about where the positives end.
Getting right to the point, the writing is repetitive. Not just a little, but a LOT. Words. Phrases. Descriptors. Actions. It's the same series of actions done again and again in different settings. It makes it feel as though the writer is desperately trying to pad their word count. as though they're trying to fill a quota, and for me that just brings me straight out of the story.
On that same note, the writing is juvenile overall. The author is clearly trying to set a certain tone with their writing style, which is great, but this often leads them to using words that just don't fit. They're jarring, and unexpected. It makes me feel like they're trying to appear older than they really are by using fancier words. For example. The EXCESSIVE use of "embrace." As a reader, that word screams much deeper intimacy than a hug, or simply bringing someone into their arms. It's not a word to be used in abundance. The author drops it every chance they get and it just stilts the flow of the story.
Then there's the constant mention of their appearances. "Handsome man." "Beautiful boy." It makes it seem as though those are the only characteristics of there's that we should care about. Also their age gap. I'm over it. They're different races, so I justify it, but I do not need constant reminders that Luo Xiao is but 16 while Jiang Yao is 100(0?) years old. I understand it's a determining factor in their lack of sex, but it's not necessary to bring it up every single time they kiss, or snuggle. Their relationship is also on the verge of codependency, and I question the health of it.
I'm not sure how many books this author has written, but from my perspective there's a lot of room for improvement. While the story is interesting enough for me to keep coming back, the execution is severely lacking. I think they would benefit from having an editor come through and help them polish it up some. The foundations really are good, but it feels like every building block added is just as crooked and wobbly as the first. I've seen little improvement after listening to all three books. While I dislike to be harsh, as someone with an extremely similar writing style to this author, I feel like I have a good perspective. I hope that they read the reviews and do their best to implement changes where they can so we the readers can continue to enjoy their stories.
This is a gentle love story of soul mates who suffer the trials and tribulations of proving their love to one another and everyone else. What makes it more difficult for them, is that they are both straight men who have fallen in love with a person, not a gender. They have to endure the prejudices of judgmental eyes cast upon them, but also the jealousy and hatred of a princely brother who wishes to harm the Seventh Demon Prince and his beautiful young lover.
The reason I have given this four stars instead of five has nothing to do with the storyline, which is immensely heartwarming; it has to do with the fact that it is either badly interpreted or badly edited. Because of the badly used grammar, there were times when I have had to re-read a sentence or paragraph to try and understand what was being conveyed. The script would have benefited from indications as to which character was speaking for example, as I sometimes had difficulty realising this.
But I have loved the storyline and the three books in this series so far, and I look forward to hopefully reading more as Jiang Yao and Luo Xiao continue their journeys towards "happy ever after".
I loved this story like the other two books. I was excited about the two, Luo Xiao and Jiang Yao, their relationship had become closer, and all the love needed except the sex. But Jiang Yao is very patient even though the waiting caused him pain.
The writer brings us to where the the two need to separate for Luo Xiao's life, an assassin is after him. So they come up with the idea to fake Xiao's death so there everyone would stop paying him any attention. Luo Xiano could continue cultivating to higher levels under an alias name until he could ascend to the upper Realm and be with Jiang Yao forever. They planned that they would meet again twice a year.
So, Jiang Yao's Level is so high that he was close to ascending and wouldn't take much to achieve this.
The writer leaves us with just before the separation. All I wanted to do was get Book 4, but guess what? There is no Book 4 written, this book was written in 2022, and one can only hope for Book 4.
Still a creepy grooming story. At least this one focuses less on the “romance” (grooming) than the first and second.
It’s extremely repetitive and predictable.
Every side character is either a total jerk for no reason and ends up murdered, or is an angel and never heard about again.
The prose is AWFUL. Truly awful. The same phrases are repeated over and get again. The author constantly reminds us how beautiful and handsome the main characters are.
If we could take our all the filler garbage, repetition, and and grooming, this would be a vaguely interesting and very short book instead of this long dreary series
The is a fun read so far with a few minor quibbles. First, and this may be due to translation, but one is always being "dragged into his embrace." This was repeated way too often and dulled the romance a bit. Secondly, the perpetual blushing got pretty old. The 2ML would have gotten over that much earlier. The long dragged out unrequited demon lust and the often repeated phrases could have used some editing. But all in all, an entertaining read so far. Waiting for the next volume.
Just finished and now feel like I'm on pins and needles having to wait for the outcome in volume 4. I really enjoyed reading this series and congratulate the author in keeping me so focused on reading that I visually feel like I'm a bystander watching events as they happen. Can't wait to see these two as a powerhouse couple once they are in the upper realms.
It was good to see our duo out adventuring again and exploring a bit of the world. We get some interesting reveletions and a small progress in the relationship, and more teasing of what's to come far into the future. Ending felt a bit rushed, and some characters could have been solved more spectacularly, but I enjoyed the book overall.
The only problem with this 3rd book, is that it ended too soon. Now I will have to wait for another spoiled sibling to meet her demise by ice! Bring it on and give the loving duo more time to embrace!
