Get ready to meet our main characters, Ryker, Kit & Carter. Carter is Kit's older brother. Ryker is Carter's best friend since childhood.
This genre when done right is my kryptonite, and this one was done perfectly, I don't think this author could've made this any better than what it is. As soon as I started it, I was hooked, carried on a wave of feelings that grabbed me from the get go and didn't let go even when closing out of that last page. A slow burn, a little twist, a whole lot of feels, a wee bit of angst, I was in my happy place..
These two had such a unique strong connection from as far back as she could remember, he was always there, like a second brother but better, one she could always depend on, lean on, not only was he her brother's best friend but he was also hers. When she hit her teens and one small flirty kiss on her cheek he became a crush she had to keep hidden.
And as they grew older their feelings developed into a line that was too risky to cross. Drawn together like moths to a flame.
Until..
One night changed his life forever and he had to move away, leaving his best friend and the girl he couldn't stop thinking about behind. Not even a good bye passed his lips.
It's when Ryker is asked to come and house sit/ slash baby sit Kit for a week whilst her father and brother go away on a business trip, even though she's of age she has a heart condition which has to be monitored, is when things between them start heating up.
She was the good girl and he was the boy with a troubled past, getting himself into trouble without really thinking about the consequences.

This book is about a girl Kit, who unfortunately suffers a heart condition. Which means she was never able to live her life to its fullest and enjoy it carefree and recklessly as all the other high schoolers. She has always had to be cautious and careful, due to her illness. But one day, someone had told her to enjoy all the little things because one day the little things will turn into the big things. That someone goes by the name of Ryker. Who happens to be Kit’s brother’s best friend. But it also happens to be the love of her life, ever since she was young. When Ryker decides leave town for two years without a single goodbye, Kit has to learn to live without him. She uses his words of wisdom each and everyday. Fast forward, Ryker’s back in town and Kit’s world is about to turn upside down. What will happen between them? Does Ryker feel the same way about Kit? Has he loved her all these years?
This book is about family, dark pasts, threatening health conditions. It is also about love, experiencing life, and high school in all its drama filled glory. It has a huge plot twist that will definitely touch you and leave you speechless. Let’s just say I bawled my eyes out for the last 50 or so pages. It was truly beautiful.
If you were faced with a health condition that will take away years of your life, how would you live? You would have to use that as your motivation to live the life you were unfortunately given, to the fullest. It’s not a setback, yet an opportunity to use it as your power. Kit’s character in this book developed into such a beautifully strong woman. In the beginning, she is young and naïve. That being said, her life threatening condition is not handled in the best ways at first which caused me to become frustrated with her. But it also made me sympathize so much with her character. We genuinely get to see Kit and her character grow and flourish throughout this book. It is truthfully such a beautiful book and I definitely recommend it.
It is a heartbreaking love story about two souls who were always destined to find one another, but life kept getting in the way.

This book is SO DANG GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO SO SO FREAKING GOOD! One thing I love about Rachel Leigh is that her books are always 5 star reads for me. And I normally love the darker side of romance. She don't write a bunch of dark but yet I am obsessed with every single book. This book was a slow burn romance. And if you know me at all you know I despise those kinds. But this book? I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. When I wasn't swooning.
Ryker and Kit have known each other just about their whole lives. Ryker is Kit's brothers best friend. He is a couple years older than her and he is the "bad boy" to her "innocent good girl". There are reasons when Kit grows up WHY she has to stay somewhat innocent. She has a heart condition and any bad stuff can put her in the hospital. So it is safe to say, when something happens to make Ryker leave them and their town for a couple years, she kind of embraces the bad girl life...(ok, not fully, like she dont start becoming a prostitute or nothing)
Ryker has to come back for a week to sort of watch over Kit while her dad and brother go away so you know what that means.. Because you see, Kit has always been in love with Ryker. And Ryker use to love her like a little sister but as the years went on he started to see her a different way.
That's all I will say about that. You have to read to see what ELSE happens. Because lordy lordy so much happens in this story. There is a jerk of a guy in Kit's life (Ryker is PERFECT at being the jealous possessive type let me tell you), Ryker is fighting some of his own demons and keeping secrets, we have a crazy best friend named Kaylee, a brother that is very overprotective (so you can only imagine why Ryker has had to keep his feelings a secret) but a lot of the story focuses not only on Ryker and Kit's love but Kit's health. This was the first time I ever read a book about a girl with a serious life or death condition and the way it was written broke my heart. But I smiled, laughed, swooned, swooned some more, and just wanted to hug the book. I love everything about this entire story. It was effortlessly perfect and just goes to show that Rachel Leigh can seriously write ANYTHING.

This was a heartwarming story about first love, friendship and bonds stronger than blood...
Rachel Leigh told this story so beautifully with so much sweetness in it and so much depth...
I got invested from the first chapter and my heart was beating wildly in the companion of these wonderfull characters full of flaws... and then came that twist that changed everything for them and for me, cause I spent the last 20% of the book bawling my eyes out from the crying!!!
And that's in my book means success for the author, cause this is one book that will stay unforgettable inside my heart and mind!!!!

This is Ryker and Kit's story.... And Carter's!!!!
Carter was Kit's big brother and Ryker's best friend... Kit wasn't the annoying little sister... Both boys loved and protected her like she was one of them... These three were tight between them and they were best friends....
Until something had started to change between Kit and Ryker...
Unfortunately, there wasn't time for this something to be explored cause Ryker's life changed in an instant and he had to let go the most important people in his life with a simple whispered... Enjoy all the little things!!!!

And Kit took this five words into consideration and she tried to enjoy all the little things, even though she became reckless and careless from time to time...
And now, Ryker is back in town after two years that he broke Kit's heart and the old feelings are coming back...
Imagine when these two are forced under the same roof for a week for a favor to her brother!!!
Can they forget the past and explore the feelings that brewing inside of them???
Or Carter will always looming between them like a dark shadow???

"But I will. Eventually. If we do this, I'll lose you both."
I really loved this story and this couple...
Kit was a sweet girl and even though her heart's condition, she was a little fighter...
Ryker had lived a shitty childhood, still... he got to the other side a winner, even with guilts and many bruises!!!
These two were meant to be and it was such a pity that they were trying to deny to themselves what they really wanted for years...
There was a huge connection here and it wasn't only on the psysical part.... Kit and Ryker used to be best friends before becoming something more....
"I've felt her heart calling to mine for years."
"I dare you to stop overthinking everything with us."
This was an amazing story.... and there were some amazing characters in here, except Ryker and Kit.
Carter was a wonderful brother and a best friend that everyone would like by their side... The bond between these three was inseparable and it was amazing to witness this connection...
Yep, there were issues and problems between them, but their bond couldn't break that easily and I admired that!!!
My heart really broke in tiny pieces in the end, still... I wouldn't change anything in here!!!
This was a very sweet, tender and passionate love story that I won't forget easily!!!

I don't know if I'll ever recover
I can't put into words how hard I sobbed reading this. If you love having your heart ripped out and sewn roughly back together this is the book for you! Me? Well i guess i enjoy pain!I can just see Rachel Leigh cackling while holding my heart in her tiny pixie hands. Lol

I loved Ryker and Kit so darn much.
He's her brothers best friend,she's his best friends sister. A forbidden yet unavoidable love. Honestly I'm still recovering so all I can say is while it did break me it also completed me. I was so invested in every moment! Loved this book so much!

Review: This was my first book by Rachel Leigh and oh my gosh! Wow...just wow. It was not what I was expecting. This book was everything I love about Brother's Best Friend. The swoon worthy moments, the forbidden, fighting feelings, the jealousy, the protectiveness and the confessions. This book was so much more though. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm going to be vague. Kit has had a thing for her older brother Carter's Best Friend for years. Ryker is sweet, protective and trying to be better. Their bond is something special. When a life altering event takes place, Ryker is taken from their lives, forever leaving a hole in their family. Years later, they are brought back together and Kit has no plans to forgive him for breaking her heart. The push and pull these two delivered...Ryker wouldn't give up and I love him even more for it. Enjoying all the little things is such an important part of life. I love how Ryker touched Kit's life and made it better. The twist I was not expecting destroyed me. I have never cried so hard while reading. This book was an emotional rollercoaster, but I loved it. I'm waiting for my paperback to come. This is a book I would definitely re-read! Don't miss this one!

Ryker and Kit will love rent free a while in my mind forever
Rachel you have done it again.
This a best friend brothers slow burn story. Ryker and Kit Journey took me a emotional ride that kept me reading till I hit the end. I definitely recommend this book It has alot of real world aspects in it. Warning do have tissues near by. I won't give anything away but afters all the Heart breaking emotions and tears I shed, and sacrifice of sleep to finish this book Ryker and Kit Journey broke and melted my heart.
Ryker and Kit will love rent free a while in my mind forever

Still processing all the emotions. This one was beautifully gut wrenching in so many different ways.
UPDATE: Took me about a solid week to get over this book. I mean I’m still not ok but I at least have the words to express it now.

Have you ever gotten a pit in your stomach anticipating what’s to come? Well let me tell you, this story had me chanting “no, no, no, don’t let it happen” over and over in my head once I hit a certain point. And then the ground opened up and swallowed me whole.
There is more than a love story on these pages. You experience a friendship between a brother and sister. You remember what it felt like to crush on an older friend. If you were a slight outsider, you remember what it was like to have friends while still being the butt of jokes. Bullies come in all forms and friends can be bullies too. You will fall in love with the bromance between Carter and Ryker. But at the end of the day it’s the story of Ryker and his best friends little sister. The girl he affectionately nicknames Kit-Kat for her love of all things sweet.
All I can say is be ready for a roller coaster of memories and experiences you may or may not want to relive. And by all means have tissues handy when you need the end of this book. You’ll most likely need them, swiftly followed by a hug from a loved one.
In the ways of these characters, I’ll end with — I dare you to read this book and not get emotional.

Thank you so much to Rachel Leigh for offering me an arc. I just finished reading the book, and I am crushed. I was not expecting that ending. My eyes are probably swollen for bawling. Lol
This is a brother's best friend, young adult, slow burn, angsty, coming of age. I've said I don't read much of YA, but this one was pack with all the feels.
Katherine also known as Kit have always been hanging out with her brother Carter and his best friend, Ryker. They're around 3 years older than her. This book is sooo freaking good!!! Kit and Ryker are everything!!! Omg I laughed I cried I wanted to punch something at the unfairness and then I cried some more! Hands down the best Rachel Leigh book I’ve read to date and probably my number one favorite for 2022 !
This story was amazing it’s beautiful it’s endearing it’s emotional I could go on and on about this journey Rachel takes us on but I won’t I think this is a story you need to go into blind . Grab some tissues and trust this author with this story she tells it’s devastating but also beautiful and I’m left absolutely speechless! This is a book I’ll definitely be rereading !

Kit and her brother's best friend Ryker were always close. Due to her medical condition, her brother and father are always super protective and so is Ryker. But as they grow up, Kit's feelings change. And then Ryker has to leave without a goodbye. When he comes back, Kit has changed a lot. But it seems her feelings have not disappeared and it seems that Ryker has feelings for her too. But does her "broken" heart can let him in? What will be the consequences when their forbidden love is exposed?
This story goes for years with few time jumps so you get to experience the whole arc of Ryker and Kit's journey. From the time they had this innocent adorable friendship to the time when it became some deeper and sinful. Ryker has a complicated life and this boy is broken but he has so many good pieces. He has this dark feelings of being not enough. His life is a mess. And he doesn't think that he is good for Kit. Not only because she is his best friends sister. Because his complex life. But Kit is such a beautiful soul. She has been going through so much but she never stopped fighting. She is resilient and she cares deeply and unconditionally. With her unique medical condition, she didn't have a normal teenage life and so she can be a bit rebellious and reckless because she just wants to live. Ryker wants to protect her but also encourages her to be free. They have a special connection and they understand each other in unique ways. I expected it to be a lot more steamy but I am actually happy that the author concentrates on their emotional bond and growth as individual character. Ryker had to stop giving his demons so much power and Kit had to find a way to get stronger. It was a rollercoaster and the way they found their happily ever after was unexpected and broke me completely. It was heartaching and angsty and you will fall for every single character.

Kit is a young girl who’s already faced so many challenges in her life. She’s learned to make the best of it and not be held back or held down because of her complications.
Ryker is Kits brother, Carter’s best friend. He is a little bit wild and reckless but also incredibly compassionate and caring. He gets himself into some trouble and has to go away a while and comes back to have to face the demons of his past.
We get some forced proximity when Carter and his dad go on a business trip leaving Ryker to watch over Kit for the week. She’s so mad at him for leaving and has this hate that slowly dies down. These two are just so natural together. Like they were always meant to be in each others lives. They are the halves that make each other whole.
I loved every single second of this ride Rachel Leigh took me on. This was something new and different for her. She gave me so many emotions along the way. You want to be team Kit but also are always team Ryker. He truly is a gem.
She did break me with this one though. Like uncontrollably ugly baby tears. I’m still not the same! The way this book and Kit and Rykers story evolved is something I will forever remember and think about.

2 stars because of the plot twist at the end and the emotional wreck it made me.
Other than that, the characters were annoying, the romance was repetitive, the plot and extra characters were boring, and it felt like we were going in circles the whole time.
I saw some reviews say Kit, the FMC, was annoying but I would actually say Ryker, the MMC, was worse. He treated Kit like a therapist and was literally wallowing in his own self pity for 89% of the book. Kit was also kind of stubborn but I sorta understood it. Kaylee, the FMC’s best friend, was cute but I don’t like how she would push the FMC towards the clearly toxic and egotistic guy. Carter, the brother, was cool and I liked him but I feel like he was too naive.
I also hate the whole “I have a crush on this guy and he’s all I can think about 24/7 and I literally cannot have a conversation without him being the main topic” trope. Especially when the women cannot have a single conversation without bringing up a male (spoiler alert for middle aged authors: teenage girls have hobbies and think about other things 🤯)
Overall, it did make me shed (one) tear at the end, but that was the only redeeming quality.

Holy heck. I went through so many emotions in this book. Heartache, sadness, anger, happiness, heartache again…
This book broke me in all the best ways. I was NOT prepared to be so emotionally invested in this story. I went in blind, not having any idea what I was getting into and seriously suggest doing the same!!

So I’ve read other Rachel Leigh books.. they tend to be darker this one however was not what I was expecting.
I didn’t know I was going to cry for 5 minutes & have my heart ripped out. (In a good way) ugh. Rachel how dare you make me feel things.

Oh god! This story was everything.
This was my first read from Rachel Leigh and was certainly not what I was expecting... she did not disappoint.
Firstly her writing style is magical, I loved the flow of the story - particularly in the beginning where we get the sense of a re-telling, it was done to perfection. Then there is the attention to detail and the way she is able to immerse you in the story, it was all done beautifully.
I loved the characters! I personally felt their unique trauma and loved how they progressed individually and together throughout the story. Ryker and Kit are just perfection, both multi-layered and fighting their own demons, but so much stronger for having each other. Plus I loved the secondary characters, especially Kaylee who brought such a fun energy to the story.
Without any spoilers (which will blow your mind... you will not see this one coming) this story is a powerful, emotional, heartbreaking, and beautiful read about love, life, and enjoying "all the little things".
Amazing job to Rachel Leigh on such a beautiful read!

No me gustó mucho. :/
Esperaba algo diferente y mejor....
Los protagonistas me parecieron estúpidos, cometieron muchos errores que se podían evitar, y eso que pasó al final fue como muy "too much!"
Ella me molestó bastante, terminó siendo sosa y, valga la redundancia, molesta.... y mira que al comienzo tenía potencial pero a medida que pasaban las páginas se fue poniendo más ridícula y ni su condición la salvó

Ryker and Kit you guys make my heart swoon. I love them so much 🤭 Their relationship is one of the best slowest slow burn that burned all the way to my heart. I felt it in my bones. So forbitten, so tragic and so emotional. It gives you all the feels and more.
The story comes about a forbitten love between a girl with a heart conduction and her bothers bestfriend. They grow up together. So it was inevitable that a crush would form. Once she got her first taste of Ryker lips on her cheek, Kit was done for. No matter how attractive he was to Kit-or the poll that Kit had with Ryker. He could never cross that line. After some wrong decision and bad luck Ryker had to move away without saying goodbye.
Kit was devastated. So she put her crush a side and got angry....
After a couple of years passed Ryker shows up!! Like how you going to show your face after leaving without good bye. And to have the audacity to show up to the house to baby sit Kit for a week while her brother and dad go away on business , since she has a heart condition and they don't want to leave her alone, is when things between them start heating up between them too. Their chemistry is over the top! The connection between the is SOOOO GOOD!
So much happens in this book that I couldn't never write. You have to go threw the feeling of reading the book to yourself because words don't do justice.
Its a roller-coaster of emotions, the development of the characters were on point, I seriously would read this book like a million times. This book will make you cry and wonder how you going to get over it without help. The twist at the end is something you will never expect it to happen.
