unfortunately, will not be continuing reading this danmei and have chosen to end with volume 5 of the official translation. though it started off very, very good in the beginning and i was hoping it would become an all-time favourite, i felt my enthusiasm waning more and more till reading a single word of this series became a huge chore. i was okay with the main characters before they got together and it felt like they just became stereotypical caricatures. the romance was nice before they got together and just then became very… eh. didn’t care for most of the side characters. the plot is okay but, not okay enough for me to continue and it got dragged on way too long. i’ll have fond memories of what i did enjoy of this danmei but, very happy to be done.

Tianbao fuyao lu (ou Legend of exorcism) é um manhua que adapta a novel homónima. Neste primeiro volume, acompanhamos Kong Hongjun, um meio-yao (o equivalente ao japonês youkai), na sua missão pelo reino humano. A pedido do seu pai adotivo, Hongjun deve realizar três tarefas: primeiro, ele deve procurar pelo Departamento de Exorcismo, pois só assim ele poderá descobrir o assassino do seu pai biológico; segundo, ele deve trabalhar ao lado dos humanos para capturar yaos que perturbem a paz; terceiro, ele deve procurar uma pessoa chamada Chen Zian e devolver-lhe a Lâmpada do Coração. Simples, certo?
Naturalmente, as coisas não acontecem de acordo com os planos e a Lâmpada do Coração acaba por ir parar no corpo de Li Jinglong - ninguém menos que o líder do Departamento de Exorcismo.
O primeiro volume é um pouco curto, pelo que não é possível compreender com exatidão que rumo a narrativa irá seguir. Neste momento, apenas são estabelecidas as bases para a história e o grupo principal. Devo dizer que em poucos capítulos eu já me encontrava rendida a todas as personagens. Ainda é cedo para perceber quais as suas personalidades, mas só as poucas interações que tiveram dá para entender que se trata de um grupo bastante heterogéneo propenso a todo o tipo de situações caóticas.
Não posso terminar esta crítica sem fazer uma pequena menção à arte do manhua. Não sei quem é o artista encarregue do manhua de Tianbao fuyao lu, mas tenho que dar os meus parabéns, pois a arte está incrível - misturando fantasia com ficção histórica.
Em suma, Tianbao fuyao lu parece ser interessante. Teremos que ver o que nos aguarda nos próximos capítulos.

A slow-burn romance with a great balance of humor, action, and mystery. Bilibili Comics offers an official English translation for free and I highly recommend Legend of Exorcism for those that enjoy wholesome relationships, fantasy settings, and strong plots.
