A Gift of Time is the third and final book in the Nine Minutes trilogy. It’s the conclusion to Grizz, Ginny and Grunt’s story and I feel like I’ve been waiting for the longest time to read it. It was well worth the wait. Once again, Beth Flynn took me on a reading experience. Another story that made me laugh, cry, made me a nervous wreck and gave me all the feels.

I don’t want to spoil this story for anyone so my review will be very short and to the point. I’m also not going to talk about the actual storyline because I want it to be a surprise for all readers like it was for me. Trust me, you’ll thank me later when you get to all the twists, turns, and revelations.

There are still secrets. Many questions that we need answered and loose ends we need tied. I feel like Beth did a great job answering all those questions and spilling all the secrets gradually throughout the story. The first half or so jumped around between past and present. It went between multiple POV’s. The majority of the last half of the book really focused on the couple in the present time. Although I loved the first half of the book, the second half was my favorite. I thought it had a great flow to it and I was happy with the way it concluded.

If you haven’t read these books, start with Nine Minutes it truly is one of the most epic biker books I have ever read. Then continue with the next two books. This author does an amazing job with these characters and their stories. It’s the perfect mix of raw, gritty, sweet, romantic and steamy. It’s a captivating read and one I highly recommend!

'A Gift of Time', the conclusion of Grizz, Ginny and Grunt’s story was pure and simple epic. It was unique, captivating and honest to God I was on an emotional roller-coaster the entire time reading it. This third installment kept me at the edge of my seat, made me feel and blew me away with so many twists and turns enough to make my head spin.

“Two rings. One of ink and one of gold.”

The story is wonderfully written, complex and so very addictive. Written in two parts, 'A Gift of Time' from multiple POVs, it will answer all your questions, because I’m sure after reading the second installment, like me, you have plenty of them. While the timeline in the first part of the story was all over the place, the timeline in the second part was "more normal" and conventional which I liked. Reading these characters’ story was equally heartwarming and heartbreaking. I smiled, cried and even laughed with them and while I thought the story was a little too much at times…in some ways, just a little, I wouldn’t change (almost) anything about it.

The previous installment in the series ended with a huge revelation that made me wonder how the author will manage to give these characters a happy ending; a revelation that personally pleased me very much even if overall I didn’t fully love the second installment. The plot here was well done even if it was so complex. There are many sub-plots and characters, but don’t be scared because every single one of them was a role and a purpose. It was great to see in this installment Ginny and Tommy/Grunt as a couple, as a family and how strong their relationship still was after all these years. I liked their relationship between them and also the relationship they had with their children. Ginny’s character development was fantastically done. I liked her before, but I have to say I loved her in this final installment. She was a great wife and also a great mother to her children. I liked how she handled everything and I really sympathize with her at some point into the story, so overall I think she was a terrific heroine.

“I can't see myself ever saying no to you. I love you, Ginny. I never stopped loving for one single second. Ever.”

Personally I enjoyed more the second part of the story for reasons I can’t mention since I don’t want to reveal anything about the plot. Firstly because of the timeline I mentioned above and secondly because of some twists and revelations and not only. And speaking about twists and revelations (mostly about revelations) …prepare yourself to be blown away. There’s a lot of drama in this second installment in the series and lots of heartbreaking and heartwarming moments that I’m sure will keep you glued to the pages, so be prepared.

I have only one complain.

All in all, 'A Gift of Time' was a great conclusion to these characters’ story, filled with drama, angst, suspense, action, steam and everything in between that I enjoyed very much. Needless to say I highly recommend this series!

From the first book to the last, this series has blown me away! This is one of those series that I'm sad to see end, even though I'm very satisfied with how things worked out. It was one hell of a ride, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I loved it!

Picking up where the last book left off, we know that Grizz is alive but we don't know what that means for Ginny and Tommy. If you thought you'd get the answer quickly, you'd be disappointed. Ms. Flynn takes us back in time again, explaining the events that led up to the point where the second book left off, long before giving readers the answers we have been craving. So, buckle up, it's going to be a long ride!

That being said, as impatient as I was to get the answers I wanted, I loved every minute of this book. Even though it essentially covered the same timeframe as earlier books, Ms. Flynn had a way of presenting everything in a new light. There was so much going on that was never revealed and so many competing agendas. I admit that I got lost more than once and had to back up and "reorient" myself.

I don't want to give away too much and spoil this for anyone. If you've followed my reviews of this series, you can probably guess how things work out based on the fact that I'm very happy with the way things ended. However, there will definitely be some heartache and upsets.

All in all, I loved this book! It was the perfect ending to this complex story. I was completely enthralled with this story and the captivating characters. I cannot wait to read the spin-off stories that I know will be coming. I wish I could just pre-order them now.

I'm done.

After an exhausting day at work I feel like I have to work again. And that's not my definition of enjoyment.

Too many plots, subplots, characters, events, twists, turns, POVs, narratives, points in time, pages... I feel like my head is going to explode.

The book is well-written, the characters are well-developed but the story is too complex and confusing. Sorry.

Hello Mrs. Flynn!

Please for all that is worthy, do not make Grizz fall in love with Ginny's twin! The story would be totally ruined and it would show that Grizz's love for Kit was not "true"! :(

”Two rings. One of ink and one of gold.”

I was concerned that since book two of this series had everything but the kitchen sick thrown into it that perhaps Nine Minutes should have been a standalone novel. However, I’m so glad that I tried this final book because the map, the twin thing, and all the other nonsensical things were kept in the backdrop of this well written conclusion.

”A life you have to hide from is no life at all.”

The story is written in two parts. In part one the time line is all over the place so you really have to stay alert. There’s secret reveals and then pages later things are changed up about the same situation again and again. Once I hit part two the timeline is much easier to follow. The flow of the story was well done not drawn out and I adored that sole focus of this book was on Kit, Tommy, Grizz and their children.

Through this story you see what a wonderful family unit Tommy, Kit and the children truly are. You wonder how the hell could a HEA even look like with Grizz? Will she put that blue bandana on? Can she leave the husband she has loved for fifteen years for another? The author handles this love triangle of sorts in what I think of as a cop out yet… things work and in time yes time it all came together perfectly.

”The kids are my world, but you’re my universe.”

description

This conclusion is character driven more than reveal and plot twist driven and it totally worked for me. P.S. I finally know Grizz’s real name. I adored the conclusion, shed a few tears and am left excited at the possibility that Mimi may get her own story in the future!

I'm so sad that this series has come to an end. Beth Flynn delivers an epic, unique, captivating and original series. My feelings for this one was mixed. I loved the story but I was confused.
The first part was confusing at times and I feel bad saying that even though the two books were my favorite I couldn't remember everything from the previous. The second part in this book was my favorite. It was everything I wanted to have for this ending.

Grizz,Ginny and Grunt will be always a part from me. They were fantastic characters. But in this one most of the time I was annoyed with Ginny's behavior. I tried to understand her and feel for her but I couldn't. She was so stubborn and if you consider this was the reason I loved her in the previous books in this one didn't work for me. Grizz was everything to me, this man has been through so many difficulties and I wanted him to be happy and get what he deserved!

PLEASE DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK FIRST!

You are going to get your answers in this one. There are twists to keep you interested.I hope that Beth will write a book for Mimi love her character!

I'm glad grizz ended up with ginny. I had a few problems. I appreciate that ginny was with Tommy but I was uncomfortable reading the sex scenes with them. I would have preferred to gloss over that. The scenes with grizz weren't as descriptive and with him I would have preferred more.
I know ginny was torn and she loved Tommy. I would have preferred she loved him a little less and grizz allot more. I loved how much grizz loved ginny. I wanted her to love him back the same way and maybe was a little bit disappointed that I didn't get that feeling. She was his everything. I didn't feel grizz was her everything :(. Beth Flynn did an amazing job of writing though. For my personal preference. I would have preferred the above.

To get the full throttle zap of feels it's vital that you start right back at the beginning (Nine Minutes #1 & Out of Time #2) before jumping on this, the conclusion to this series..I guarantee you will not regret it!!

Throughout this series there have been so many twists and turns, so many secrets.

We've gotten to love our three main characters (Grizz, Grunt & Ginny the three G's) there's been many a battle and divided lines on who we love the most Team #Grizz or Team #Grunt.

I personally have always been #TEAMGRIZZ

We've had vital lessons taught to us about subterfuge, deceit, loyalty, forgiveness and most importantly love.

A GIFT OF TIME This novel is told in rotating POV'S which sets this apart from the pervious books within this series. It can tend to be confusing which is why it's vital you read this series back to back.

Grizz
Ginny
Mimi
Tommy
Carter

This is one longggggg assed book!! I'm going to do my review as spoiler free as I can..All I can really say is that the first 40 or so chapters were kind of recapping what we'd learn't in the previous two books, which kind of made for a drawn out read, though it did add a few extra tidbits we weren't privy to. BUT after you get through those chapters and what we were all waiting for this is where I got zapped in the heart with the overpowering feels wand!! I'm just so sad that this series has come to an end.

Hard review to write up so I'm just going to leave it there because no matter which way I go with this review will be giving a major part of the story away.

Talking about coming full circle, Beth Flynn neatly tied up the unanswered questions. She left no stone uncovered in this remarkable five star read.

One minute I'm chomping at the bits ready to do some serious bodily harm, the next gagging because of blaugh... blaugh.... blaugh. Then in the next breath jumping up and down like a kid on crack. If anyone figured out why I was so happy, they either get pissed or thought I was crazy.

~Sigh~ this is it, the end ...we finally get all the answers and some outcomes that not everyone is going to like. I do think that Ms. Flynn spun things well...it was definitely a hump that was hard to get over.

So, Tommy and Ginny...and Grizz. How could this work out? And what about that weird aspect with the information Grizz had? It was hard to fathom what direction things would go. And OMG that prologue? That was just killer.

For the first third? (at least) I was not a happy camper of the various time frames/time jumps. The story was all over the place. However, as the story goes a long, it does become easier to keep track of things. I'm still not a big fan of that format and I could see how a lot of people would DNF based just on that.

There were things that needed answers though and I was happy to get a few. Some things were still left out in the open and others were left to God. And that was just a little too convenient for me. The religious element is strong in this book and if something is not working out? Well, just pray to God and it's fixed. I guess it's just a leap of faith. (and hey, no religion bashing here...to each their own. I just didn't always buy it.)

description

I did quite enjoy the much stronger, confident Ginny. I liked that she didn't need to rely on anyone to do what she wanted. I especially loved how she was with her kids and how things progressed with her daughter, Mimi.

And now's the part of the review where I have to tell you that I can't really tell you anything else. That's right...nada, zilch, zero. Lips locked and key thrown away...but hey, don't let that stop you from reading it! ;)

There is drama...plenty of it and yes, heartbreak but there's also sweetness and getting through the grief. There's friends you can rely on and friends you can't and seeing that people really do show their true colors under the harshest of times.

There's finding out that there were people watching over you that you had no clue about. And that there's family just waiting for you to want them. There's a great strength in knowing how strong your family can be if you are honest and just love them.

Ginny definitely shines in this book...all the way through. I was happy with the way things turned out even though it made my heart hurt. But how things ended? Whoa....smells like a spin off to me! *fingers crossed*

I swear I still remember the feeling I felt reading Nine Minutes. This is a quote from my review: "I can promise you one thing I don’t think I will ever forget reading this book and how it made me feel.” This entire series has been this way, unforgettable.

This is the conclusion to Grunt, Grizz and Ginny’s story and I am not sure what I can say about the story that will not be a spoiler for this book or the series. If you have read the series you will be happy to know it answers all your questions. It left me with a peace and a huge smile on my face.

I started this journey almost two years ago and I remember having such mixed feelings. How can I be okay with a guy abducting a 15 year old girl and them falling in love? Especially when he isn’t even a easy to love, he is a criminal and hardened. I remember the way I felt watching Grizz’s execution, devastated. I remember how I felt when Ginny and Grunt built a life together, conflicted. Now the I finished this series I just feel complete and utter happiness.

I love how Beth ended things, they were perfect. I love how the story is told in two parts. The first part answering my million questions. The second part building on a story I already loved. This series will always be one of my favorites. It will always bring back those epic feelings and I will NEVER FORGET how I felt reading all of these books.

While this is the conclusion I can only imagine what Beth will bring us next. I can’t wait to read more and see how things unfold for Mimi.

And two weeks later…

My ramblings:

None of the books in this series were easy to rate.
Not a single bloody one.
It was pretty much a hate and love relationship.
A bumpy road where I’ve been oscillating between

Because of that, when book #3 came out I went into it with no expectations whatsoever.
I just needed some answers and closure.
Was book 3 the trip of my dreams? Not really.

My issues:
The POV’s. I almost gave up because of them.

The back and forward in time, before execution, after execution. Phew!

Geez!! I read to unwind and this was working NOT.

I’ve decided to put this on hold. I was in a speedy mode and a little bit stressed out getting ready for my holiday.

So, it could be me.
As soon as I had my @ss stuck on a sandy beach and got myself in a sloooow mode I went back to this.
The PoV’s started to make sense. The story acquired a different shape. I found a few answers.
Ginny got on my nerves.
Mimi grown on me in a very good way and I would love to be gifted with her own story next. Tommy never came even close to my heart.
And Grizz… well, he was the best from this series. I was already on team Grizz and somehow I liked him even more in this story. I loved serene, patient, confident Grizz . I think the author did a fantastic job when crafting the person he became after prison. Swoon!

Sadly, the eye rolling coincidences were again over the top. Like the nun who had a pic of Grizz and Ruth. The journal Tommy threw away retrieved by Grizz. Grizz having an insight that he had to read Moe’s journal because he knew he would find an answer about Sarah Jo *oh puh-lease*. The paternity tooth brush moment and so on. Everything fell into the right place too easy and too perfectly.

Now, looking back, I still puzzled how I managed to keep reading this series with so many ups and downs. Even more, how I am rooting for Mimi’s story to happen. But here I am, wishing for it. What's wrong with me? Dunno.
I’ll buy it for sure!

If in fact, there is a third book after author promised only two, and we are left on a cliff.....this author is getting the first official LE author behaving badly award.

Well I'm not happy. I hated Grizz with a passion and was happy he got executed and she was with Tommy in the end of the first book. Advice to those of you who read first book and loved it: if you were happy how that all ended; leave it be and don't read second and third. If you were a Tommy/grunt fan , definitely don't read them. It's not that the second and third books were that bad. It's just she strings you along. She gave you a bare minimum of explanations to a dozen questions. The third book is so far fetched soap opera coincidence after coincidence , it's ridiculous. It really dragged along and my eyes hurt from rolling back in my head. I also wasn't happy she set it up for a spinoff and then at the end of book shit, won't commit to writing a spinoff. WTF author? Two stars.

Once again there was a lot going on in this book and a bounce around in the time line. Although this time by the second part of the book, the time line stayed the same for the most part.
I have to get my thoughts together on this one, as I have a ton to say, and yet I have to be careful not to reveal anything!!! All in all, it was a great conclusion to this trilogy...

I have so many feelings about this long awaited book,so let me start. I really disliked Ginny/Kit in this book she treated my Grizz badly, I know he did bad things but the guy truly loved her. Hearing his thoughts of how much he loved her and the fact he stayed celibate for 25 years while she had another baby with Grunt and played happy families with him left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Those sex scenes although not graphic with Grunt felt like such a betrayal to Grizz. I know that Grunt loved Ginny but he manipulated to get her in the first place so even though she found out later she forgave him but she couldn't do the same for Grizz?! I found her fickle with her love but maybe that's because I can't understand how you can spend 10 years with someone and then just accepting their imminent death so easily. One minute she didn't have feelings for Grizz anymore because she loved Grunt so much and then towards the end she realised she did still love Grizz! I did respect her as a mother though because she was a truly good one and her telling the kids about Grizz was a truly admirable and brave thing to do but as I said I just didn't like how she treated my darling Grizzy bear. I know some people think it's ok to love someone else and move on but I don't especially hearing from Grizz's PoV about how much he sacrificed for Ginny and his daughter. I am glad that Grunt didn't turn out to be Grizz's son because that thought was nasty! The whole thing with Jo I think she deserved one last bad thing from Grizz after everything she had done, being in a psyche ward just didn't seem enough. Grizz deserved better from Ginny and Grunt didn't deserve to have 25 years of happiness at the expense of my Grizzy bear. I love you Grizz....mwaah! 3-4* because BF did an excellent job with her writing.

At long last I’ve read this the final book in the trilogy. I’m kicking myself for waiting so long but it’s a series I’ll never forget filled with characters that will always be with me.

Ginny is a woman who’s been married twice and she’s lucky enough to have been totally and unequivocally loved by two men. She loved them back, both of them and they were both amazing men.
I love a book, any book where a man loves a woman as much as Grizz and Tommy loved Ginny.
But for me this series was always about Ginny and Grizz. And so while I liked Tommy and I really did I needed him out of the way so Grizz and Ginny could have their HEA. It’s heartbreaking read and I wasn’t happy that a character I liked was put on a situation where they could die and I wanted them to. I considered all the options but it still always came back to the same one.
This book ties up the loose ends, gives us the HEA and finishes everything off.
Well nearly everything I still want Mimi’s story which is why I’m moving straight onto Tethered Souls next.

"Ive been given a gift, Ginny" he'd told me.
"A gift? You mean a second chance?"
"Yes, a second chance, but even more importantly, a gift. A gift of time."
"I don't know what you mean."
"Time is a real gift, Ginny, because it's the one thing you can never get back."

This ending was perfect. After book two, I was scared to see how this series finished, what happened, why it happened, how?! Yes, deep down I wish that Ginny was able to make her decisions on her own, but the way the book played out, it was the perfect ending for the situations thrown at these characters. It is impossible to describe the plot of A Gift of Time without giving anything away to those who have not read it. This series is a creative, thrilling, imaginative, heartbreaking, beautiful yet at times frustrating, and ultimately such an unique sad story that I won’t soon forget it at all. An amazing set of characters that definitely all leave a mark on your heart.

This trilogy was one hell of a ride... and I loved every minute of it.
I cried and I laughed, but I finally got all the answers to my questions.
Beth Flynn, once again blew my mind!
I have to process this one, but let me tell you... it ended exactly as I hoped it would.
This is hands down, one of the best MC romance trilogies I ever read.

“Sometimes our lives have to be completely shaken up, changed, and rearranged to locate us to the place we’re meant to be.”

Beware: this review is full of spoilers for the whole Nine Minutes series.

When I picked up the first book in this trilogy, I wasn't expecting the emotional roller coaster of a ride I would go on throughout the course of this story.

The plot: Picking up where the last book left off, we know that Grizz is alive but we don't know what that means for Ginny and Tommy (aka Grunt). If you thought you'd get all the answers quickly, you'd be in for disappointment. The author takes us back in time again, explaining the events that led up to the point where the second book left off, long before giving readers the answers we have been craving. There's A LOT going on, so buckle up for a long ride!

My thoughts: In this final installment, Beth Flynn does a phenomenal job of providing closure for her readers by answering all questions that were raised in the first two books. Much like the second one, it is written from many different points of view and you get an all encompassing journey. We're taken again through time, from 1975 to 2001 and then finally to our present time. While this massive timeline might sound a bit off putting and could be confusing to some, I thought there was such a huge difference in the character's personalities, that you could clearly differentiate each timeline.

As I mentioned before, we find out at the end of book two that Grizz is not dead. With his connections, his influence and money, he was able to fake his execution. In fact, that's why he insisted he wanted the capital punishment, not a life sentence and while in prison for 15 years, he planned everything meticulously.

The idea of "faking one's death" has been overused in so many stories over time and I've read it and seen it so often, that I didn't think I'd actually be ok with it here. But I was so glad to hear Grizz wasn't dead. I didn't think he deserved to be in prison and I don't see him as a bad guy. I also don't see him as a murderer, pedophile, thug or whatever. Though objectively speaking, he is some of those, I am aware of that, duh.

If you've read book one, you might be shocked or appalled by him and his actions from the 70s, but I wasn't. There are bad people in this world doing bad shit. And then there are good people who do bad shit, either by circumstances or because they never knew anything else but bad shit. Grizz falls under the second category. From his childhood, he had it rough. Born in the late 40s, he had to go through the most gruesome things imaginable as a kid. He never knew love of any kind and was forced to grow up and care for himself at a very young age. He lived on the streets for a while and when he finally finds a place to crash in an old guy's motel, he's again having it rough, until he finally ends up with a gang of bikers (I don't think they were ever a "motorbike club", just a group of bikers who lived in the same place and did some shady businesses). But he never killed for sport, he's not doing the stuff he does because he enjoys it. It's to establish leadership, like in a pack of wolves where one wolf has to kill another wolf to show the pack he's the strongest (idk if my example is the best, but I'm trying to make a point here lol).

So Grizz is alive and he's a changed man. Because yes, people can change for the better, even in prison. He was very aware of all the fucked up shit he did in his life and he wanted to change. That's why he cut contact with Ginny after being sentenced, he wanted her to have a normal life after him and he made sure she'd have it with the right guy. While this is arguably a bit much, I think it's the best show of love there is. How's that saying?" If you truly love someone, let them go...". I understood the love he had for Ginny from the beginning, and even though she was very young, I don't feel it was wrong. We later find out she was actually 17, not 15 at the time of the abduction and considering that so many girls have an active sexual life way sooner than 15, I don't know, I just wasn't as shocked as others. My cousin married a man 25 years older than her when she was around 20. Was it a bit icky? Yes. Was it wrong? I don't care, it's her business. Thing is - Grizz never really forced himself on Ginny, in any way. She fell for him gradually, accepting him as a guy who cares for her. It's twisted, but not appalling to me. I don't even see the thing with Grunt from book one as rape, because she was still awake when she realized what was happening and said she wants him to do it, hence no rape. Was it wrong to do that to her though? Yes, I'm not debating it. I'm just saying there are a million more terrible ways it could have happened and she was ok in the end. It was all a very peculiar situation, but it can't even be compared to when she was actually raped by a stranger in that gruesome way.

Aaaaaanyway, Grizz from 1975 is not the Grizz of 2001. He's a changed man, more grounded, calmer and more rational. Everything he does is by considering Ginny's feelings first. He's not the controlling guy telling her what to do, he now always waits for her to take action first, he never even went after her until she signaled that she needed him.

Then there's Ginny and this is her story. The "naive", young abducted girl has grown up into this strong, incredible woman with a pure heart. She is done hiding in her own head and fears, so she starts facing the things that have happened around her, makes her own decisions, and follows her heart. She truly found out who she is, without either Grizz or Tommy. I felt the intensity of everything she went through, I worried for her, screamed with her and hurt with/for her.

The best part of the story to me was the family dynamics. Ginny's kids, Mimi (Grizz's daughter) and Jason (Grunt/Tommy's son) took center stage in this book and it was heartwarming to see how truly devoted to her children she is. I also really enjoyed getting to know them both.

Long story short -This book was never about raw, hot sex. It wasn't about bikers or clubs either. It was about a girl living a hard life, who was saved by an unlikely "hero" and falling for him under unusual circumstances. It's a story that mainly takes place in the 70s and we should all know that those were some strange times in many ways. That's why I didn't judge said times with my 2020 mind frame. I strongly believe that love is often messy and unpredictable. Lives are complicated and things aren’t always as they seem.

A Gift of Time is a great ending to Grizz, Kit, and Grunt. Their story is full of love and pain, grief and peace, change/growth, self-reflection, redemption, acceptance and hope. It will stick with me for a long time to come.

Boy is Beth Flynn a fantastic storyteller. This is a story of forgiveness ---this is NOT a spoiler. Every single character is the product of their environment and only they can decide if the cycle will continue. We live the life we've chosen by the decisions we've made and some decisions haunt you by spewing insecurities into your soul. Living an honest life regardless of your past is the only way to a fulfilling one. Life moves on, time goes on, but only you have the power of forgiveness of yourself and others.

I was moved by this story and the unique way Beth took it. She wrote one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever read and until you read the book you'd never guess which I'm referring to. Each loose end is tied up in a bow, some neat and pretty some not. I'm kinda wishing I did a re read of the first two books before reading this one but it's totally NOT necessary. I was able to figure out and put together the story at the authors pace. This series is proof; great stories take time in fiction and in life.

Beth's series is amazing , plot driven, and so well written. I'm sad this is her first published works because we've missed out on years of great stories. I look forward to reading anything and everything she publishes in the future ....especially Christian's story.

Nine minutes will remain to be one of my all time favorite books! This series.... I love these characters, returning back to this story was heartwarming, emotional and at times heartwrenching. It felt like reading about people that were close to my heart, people that I love.
I do think that this final book was a little dragged out, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book. I can see how if reading the trilogy back to back might be too slow though. There were many details, some served a great purpose of jogging my memory, others did confuse me a bit as I failed to remember the details in previous books.
Overall, I adore you Beth Flynn! And I'm definitely going to be looking out for any future spin of books you will be writing (Mimi and Christian) ;)

100 stars!

It’s been a Hell of a ride and now I’ve a huuuge book hangover! What will I do now? What will I read that will rival A Gift of Time? I should have read slower but I simply needed to know what would happen.

I won’t explain much about the plot as I don’t want to spoil your fun. Just know the book begins where the second book ended and is told from multiple points of view, with Kit, Grunt and Grizz being the most prominent. Beth Flynn still uses the back and forth between past and present events and she organizes her chapters so cleverly it works effortlessly, giving that unique style I loved so much in her former books.

It wasn’t planned but I happened to read A Gift of Time with two other friends. Our “trio” buddy read was really interesting as we all had the same reactions and questions. The feelings where intense, blood pressure through the roof and our nights… very short.

To summarize some of our conversations:
-we all loved Mimi. She is innocent in some ways, had some misadventures but she also is incredibly smart and determined. I liked seeing her having a bigger role in this last book and I hope one of the future spinoffs will revolve around Mimi;

-we had incredulous reactions many time as we could not believe what we read, the secrets we learned. Beth Flynn has a very clever writing, giving some hints about truth just to send the reader on a goose chase. I love it when writers play with my certainties. I could no longer tell up from down. And when it happened I guessed right and had not been tricked I was proud as a peacock;
-we all felt some character was a villain in disguise and we were right!;

-we were all team Grizz and despised Grunt;

-we’re all convinced Beth Flynn is a master writer. I think she has a unique style, the perfect blend between suspense, romance, fiction and non-fiction at the same time.

Now, I’d like to delve further in the “Tommy/Grunt topic”.

In book two and for a long time in this sequel I despised him greatly. I saw him as deceitful and manipulative. Of course Grizz is also a master manipulator, he is no saint either but he never hid this side of his personality to Kit. Grunt acted in the shadows and never revealed his game except when he had no other option as Kit realized she’d been played in book two. So, I did not like Grunt and was dead set on keeping my (bad) opinion. But… Mrs Flynn made me understand him better, made him behave in such a way it was really hard not to forgive him in some way.

In her ”Note To My Readers”, Mrs Flynn says (shortened version as I don’t want to give any spoiler): “I had originally written this character as a manipulative and conniving teenager who grew into an even more manipulative and conniving adult. However, when I decided to go back and tell “young” Grunt’s story in Out of Time, I couldn’t go through with my original version and had to delete almost half my manuscript to rewrite him. I couldn’t help myself. Little Grunt stole my heart. His horrible childhood could have certainly justified some of his actions, but I decided against it. I wanted a character who rose about the dysfunction and abuse he’d suffered. Tommy outgrew his teenage ways and became a loving and caring father and husband.”

It shows us that fictional characters become real characters in some way and can alter the course of a book, take a writer through another path, make him opt for other choices. I can honestly say Mrs Flynn has managed to change my opinion on Grunt. I’m still team Grizz but I’m no longer as virulent towards Tommy. From a black true conniving villain he’s moved to a boy whose past can really be seen as mitigating circumstances for his actions, willing to redeem himself as a father and a husband.

This book has been everything I expected and even more and I’m once more amazed by this author’s talent and excellent writing. I can’t wait to read the promised spinoffs!

5  "Grunt e Grizz forever" estrelas

Ah! O famoso final.

E, também, me sentindo nostalgica.

A GIFT OF TIME vem pra tapar os buracos deixados pelo livro 2.

A autora me fez amar ainda mais o Grizz e o Grunt. Não sabia que era possível. Por isso, pra mim, foi difícil começar esse livro, pois só um deles ficaria com a Ginny.

Sabia que não era pra gente amar o Grunt? Em NINE MINUTES o personagem era meio em cima do muro. As vezes carinhoso, as vezes manipulador. E ela conseguiu me fazer apaixonar por ele.

E o Grizz?

A GIFT OF TIME foge do dark.

A Gift of Time (Nine Minutes #3) by Beth Flynn
3 stars!!!

“Two rings. One of ink and one of gold.”

A Gift of Time was definitely a book of two halves for me. The first half was a mass of crazy time jumps where I had to be on my toes, it was confusing and I found myself having to go back and check the year several times so that I could really get to grips to what was unfolding around me.

“And let me cry with you, because I know that if my heart is breaking, yours must be shattered in a million pieces.”

I loved the chapters of Grizz’s time in prison and just how dominant he was on the inside and how far his reach and power went from within his cell walls. I have always loved Grizz for the complex villain that he is, a man that you should hate, yet somehow can’t. He made more enemies than friends and Grizz deals the only way he knows how. But, how the execution was explained though, was to me laughable, this has always been an integral part of the plot and I wanted to know how, the brief skirting of the subject just made it seem like a joke.

Beth Flynn really creates the perfect family unit between Grunt/Tommy and Ginny, and regales us with the lives that they have lived since the execution and how the children have grown up. I found myself feeling that I was being force fed just how perfect they were together and at times it was unsettling. Mimi was a great character though and there was one plot line in particular between her and Tommy that I felt was superfluous and was adding drama for drama’s sake, especially when that topic was revisited a few times.

“When we love, we become vulnerable. If I allow myself to love, I set myself up to not be in control.”

My main gripe with this book though was the ending, not the end result, because that was a foregone conclusion in my eyes, but what happened to get there. For me it was a cop out. The battle is taken away, its lazy writing. If you are going to go the love triangle route, at least make it a fight, let there be a victor, let the person in the middle make the choice.

“…it’s not by coincidence that everything comes full circle, back to the way it was meant to be.”

If you follow my reviews then you know how much I loved Nine Minutes, it was one of my favourite books for that year and I adored the creativity and storytelling of Beth Flynn. Unfortunately, I didn’t like Out of Time, the author had taken it on a tangent that was way off for me, throwing all sorts of plot devices into the mix and to be honest I was expecting aliens next. In A Gift of Time though, most of them are never mentioned or they are not really explored at all or expanded upon. This makes me wonder why they happened in the first place and if Beth Flynn changed her outline of book three to take into account the criticisms of book two, but in doing so, took too much away from what the story for Tommy, Ginny and Grizz should have been.

“Time is the real gift, Ginny, because it’s the one thing you can never get back.”

After Nine Minutes I think my expectations were just too high, that book was so perfect that anything following it would never be good enough. Although I am not a fan of Out of Time or A Gift of Time, Beth Flynn gave me one of my most memorable reads in Nine Minutes and that is one book that I will forever hold dear.
