The Archbishops of Greed and Wrath have fallen, but the war to reclaim Watergate City continues. The royal selection candidates each face their own crisis as they fight against the insatiable Gluttony, ardent Lust, infallible Eight Arms, and the superhuman Sword Saint. But the candidates’ strong bonds, and dedication to keep their promises and oaths, may well turn the losing battle in their favor!
This book concludes the main fights of Arc 5, which are pretty well done, but slows down a lot about a third of the way through, hence it took me a while to finish this one as I just wasn't quite so motivated to read it as the previous books, but still a good conclusion for the most part and nicely sets up the plot for Arc 6.
3.5 Stars This was a good end for arc five and introduction to the plot for the next arc. It finishes all of the 'side-battles' quite well however a few were a tad anticlimactic like the lust and gluttony archbishop fights ending in them both just leaving but it didn't bother me too much. It was interesting seeing more of the Van Astreas together and seeing their dynamic. However I did feel more Theresa and Wilhelm development was unnecessary since the closure for them happened after the White Whale fight so it felt a bit repetitive. Surprising the repetition of the memory loss didn't bother me as much as I thought it was going to and it sets up an interesting development with Julius. I am glad it wasn't just a wipe away of his entire character.
Looking forward to the next arc they really set it up well towards the end of the novel.

Niestety ten tomik padł ofiarą moich rozjazdów/wyjazdów i czytałem go, gdy akurat znalazłem wolną chwilę, więc nie jestem w stanie obiektywnie ocenić treści.
After watching and reading the novel and the tv series adaption. I got to say, Re: zero has got to be my best read novel of all time. Without a doubt, this novel has stolen the special spot I've placed Evangelion on. In this novel and the rest of them introduces a cast of characters that blew my mind away, although it wasn't something I've never seen before, but the way the story makes them interact with each other just blows my mind. This is my biased review on the current state of Re:zero 2020.
I don't write reviews for books often. But I felt this was necessary. This was the first novel I read in which I introduced to the series via the anime. To be honest, I had low expectations for the novel. I expected the writing to be subpar because of the target audience. However, I pleasently suprised by it. It was, at time, captivating; it evoked the same emotions I felt while reading the Count of Monte Cristo. With that said, I felt the most captivated when the focus was on the dialogue instead of fight scenes. I intend on continuing the the next volume and will not wait for the anime to catch up.
The Majority of this is volume is taken up by the remaining battles against the cultists, so Suberu doesn't even appear until near the end, as his part of the fight took place in volume 19.
I liked some of the fights more than others; we got a few more snippets of information about Al, which I enjoyed, but could have done without another Wilhelm flashback.
This volume wraps up the arc, but leaves a lot of plot threads dangling. I read a bunch of other stuff between starting and finishing this volume, so I read it slow; at least I can move straight onto the begining of the next arc.

Volume 20 is the conclusion of Act V. Two-thirds of book was all action consisting of remaining battles against the Witch Cult in Priestella. The standout battle for me being Wilhelm vs Theresia, as it is full of feels (especially if you read Ex volumes 2 & 3). The remainder of volume was just characters taking stock of the outcomes and planning next moves. Not much else to say about this volume other than, series continues to maintain high quality but I hope for some more upbeat content.
What an ending to arc 5. The Van Astrea chapters are my absolute favorite in this arc and I really liked the sort of bittersweet setup Tappei brought to the conclusion as well. Arc 6 expectations are so high now...
I was not expecting the twists and turns that ending had it was very bitter sweet but just leaves me even more excited for arc 6 and to see how everyone grows there. Another banger arc finished
Coming from the anime, I more or less forced myself to read this because the last 20% of the novel wasn't covered yet.
After two books (#1 and #20) I still found myself suffering through the prose, to the point where I can't continue. I don't expect much from LN prose but this was downright intolerable. Quite a shame, since I had been looking forward to it initially, but I guess I can just wait to see it animated after all.
interesting ending with a very emotional backstory and hype fights and also great plot twist at the end with echinda.
what makes it really good was that this arc was full of fights and it felt like a set up arc (which it was) and it builds a lot of excitement for the next arc and everything that it has introduced
