A socialite who won't change her ways. A private chef who must do what it takes to earn a living. Together, their worlds ignite.
Socialite and heiress to her family's fortune, Naomi Flynt has everything she could ever need. Every night is different, and every night is filled with pleasure. Except when her parents decide that she will be exiled from the family wealth and business if she doesn't start acting responsibily and find a life partner.
Lily Simon has always had to work for everything she's ever had. With the help of her best friend she's created a successful business being a private chef. When the opportunity arrives to cook for the Flynt family she thinks she's hit the jackpot. But meeting the Flynt daughter, Naomi, results in a tempestuous fire of burning, forbidden desires.
Naomi finds an escape in Lily. A chance to make her family think she's doing everything right. She offers Lily an extensive, handsomely paid job in return for Lily to act the role of her girlfriend. Anything to keep her family happy. And she promises their arrangement will remain strictly professional. But she can't deny the scorching sizzle between them.
Their two worlds don't mix. And as Naomi's family puts an ever-increasing amount of pressure on her to get married, their hearts are both put on the line.
Sizzling Hearts is a stand-alone lesbian romance novel with a HEA.
Sort of a loosey goosey story overall. Rich girl is being railroaded by her family. They do horrible things to her to control her. She lets them. Then they are incalculably cruel to the girl she ‘loves’ and she lets them.
Secrets are hinted at but never explained. The characters are fairly flat, and underdeveloped.
Overall it was an ok story, but not as satisfying as it could have been.
I liked Her Highest Bidder and had been waiting for the next book to be published for over a year. I didn't know this had come out months ago since I realized I wasn't following her so I'm late to this one. I was excited to see she finally had another book and I immediately began reading. But then, the more I read, the more I started finding some things that bothered me. This had the makings of a good story but there were things that were lacking.
I really would've loved to get to know the MC's more. Like their past and why they are the way they are or what drives them and what are their future desires. Like, why Lilly became a chef or the whole story with Naomi and Rachelle instead of a vague explanation. It just didn't seem like they really establish an emotional connection enough to fall in love.
Don't get me wrong. It wasn't all a let down. The sex scenes were off the charts hot. I appreciated the clear boundaries and the emphasis on using the safe word and enthusiastic consent in this one. That was important to see. Their play might not have been totally realistic with how easy and smooth everything went but I can definitely suspend my disbelief for that because it was just so steamy I didn't really care about how real that was. They definitely had the sexual chemistry part down and it was so well written that I have to give credit to the author for the way she wrote them in the bedroom.
She definitely knows how to raise the readers temperature because there was compatibility and a connection with that but for a couple to make sense, I need more than just really amazing sex to believe their happily ever after. If only the emotions were established as well as the physical aspect was. I didn't get to see what made them fall in love when all that preceded those realization of feelings was incredible sex or spending money. I knew I would've felt something more if I could've just seen more than the surface level.
Naomi's mother was the worst part of it all though. Her scenes actually made my stomach hurt so I can't for the life of me understand why the grandma would tell Naomi she needed to try and forgive her after that nasty stunt she pulled at the dinner with Lily. Cadence was controlling, manipulative, classist and just seemed emotionally abusive. Then Naomi's dad was mostly a bystander until close to the end when he finally participated but it was to back up his vile wife's behavior? There was nothing redeeming about the mother and nothing about what she did was resolved.
It was just a lot of things that weren't tied up like the friends and their involvement or what happened to them. The fabricated conflict of Lily saying she trusts Naomi one minute then in the next chapter not trusting her. And with seemingly no reason but instead, believing a complete stranger just to force the 3rd act conflict. Then the ending felt rushed and it seemed like there were a lot of unfilled holes. The whole thing left me wondering if I'm being too critical or nitpicky and I don't mean to be harsh but I guess I was just hoping for something more. Something deeper.
If anyone wants a few hour read with lots of amazingly well written bdsm erotica and can overlook my hangups, this is the story for you. And now that I'm following her, I'll definitely be keeping a look out because I do respect this author and her writing skills and I'm eager to see what she puts out next.
