First review

3.5 [Rounded up to 4 in the second read]
But all that is different—unknown—breeds fear.

Eyes of the Eternal is a NA Greek Mythology book following Quinn Smith, an 18 year old boy who finds out that he is the reincarnation of a Greek goddess and soon his entire world changes.

First of all, I would like to say that while it's not 100% accurate when it comes to Greek myths(the creation of the world per say)it's all really well constructed that even though at first I was kind of bothered, later I completely disregarded that part.

The characters are likeable(especially the side ones) though I can't really connect with the main character but I don't think that's a big deal as it's only the first book and we'll explore his personality on the later books.

I think that my main issue was the use of the Latin language-characters chanting in Latin- instead of the Ancient Greek one. While I do believe that everything sounds better in Latin, I think that in a greek-mythology-inspired book the characters should use ancient Greek.

Other than that,I enjoyed reading it and can't wait to see what comes next!

Oh and if you've made it this far,as a fanatic of PJO, if you're looking for a next book to read, this should be in your tbr list.

PS: Major respect to the author for giving Petros the pelican the love he deserves even if he appeared for like 30 seconds

Second review
I feel so honoured that I was able to read and review the final final draft of this story! My rating is now rounded up in 4 stars instead of 3.5. This is mainly because of the changes and things that were added in this final version that enriched the story. Personally, I found the main character, Quinn, more enjoyable now than the previous version of the story which is a plus. Still enjoyed the plot and the rest of the characters. I really love and appreciate that this is a very LGBTQ+ friendly book(a pansexual MC, a queer romance, a non-binary character, and if I'm not mistaken, Surina is ace which, as an ace as well, I truly appreciated it, unless my ace radar is wrong 3) but,a personal preference,

Something that I feel needs to be mentioned is the writing: read just one chapter of the book and you'll understand that the author knows how to use the English language to write a fictional story.

I will still stand by what I had said in the first review that if you enjoyed PJO/HOO, you 100% need to put this on your list

This was an interesting entrance into a realm that has long been populated by the likes of Rick Rriordan, Eyes of the Eternal was an interesting read with a different twist on the typical demigod character. Although the book occasionally suffers from stagnant character interaction it wasn't enough to make me walk away from the book. The characters are interesting but could stand to be fleshed out more. The world that has been created is a fresh take on the whole mythology thing and I really found myself enjoying it. I am curious as to see what exactly happens when it comes to the relationship between Quinn (the main character) and Jared. Personally, I'm hoping for something romantic but I'm pretty sure that's not the case. It was a pretty good read that is worth the price.

From start to finish, I ABSOLUTELY loved this book! I was enthralled by the c0ncept alone: Greek Gods reincarnated each generation. As a Percy Jackson kid, I was absolutely interested in this!

CHARACTERS

I loved them all and our protagonist was someone you found easy to both root for and love. White has an immaculate talent for introducing and writing characters you can root for, love and even hate. Her villains are brilliantly written and the twist/reveal about the villain makes them that more interesting!

Overall, I absolutely loved our main trio and I cannot wait to see these relationships develop and grow in future books. The main romance plot here is reincarnated soulmates and that is like oxygen to me. Even though the romance doesn't happen in this book, the feelings are there and I adore a slow-burn friends-to-lovers!

WORLD BUILDING

White has really taken something familiar and re-invented it in such a fun and intriguing way. One of my favourite things about the urban fantasy sub-genre is how the fantasy fits in to and influences the real world. In Eyes of the Eternal, this is done brilliantly and I can imagine it will only expand in later books! I loved the magic system and seeing the powers of the gods we got to meet. Especially Jared/Thanatos!

PLOT

The plot had me both interested all the way throughout as well as on-the-edge-of-my-seat with its mystery elements. As our characters set out on a mission to find out who's behind a specific robbery, they must work together to get to the bottom of it.

As they unravelled the mystery, I got more and more excited to see how things would play out! The action-packed climax that both had me gasping and sobbing was a wild ride to read!

WRITING

White's writing is, for the most part, immaculate. I did have a couple of gripes but they're nothing to fret about as they're easily moved past and didn't negatively impact my experience.

She knows how to write brilliant, interesting and complex characters which is something I always, always appreciate. I love them your honour!

OVERALL

This has it all: magic, slow-burn romance, reincarnated soulmates, Greek Gods, found family, amazing pace, intriguing plot and adorable animal companions!

I am so glad I came across this and picked it up. It is indeed a new favourite and I cannot wait for more!

*Received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I was first asked to review a previous edition of this book but the author decided to make some changes, the changes she has made have really enriched the story. The characters are a lot more relatable and a lot more enjoyable to read about. I especially loved the changes made to the main character Quinn and a few of the side characters, their stories feel a lot more personal this time around.

As a fan of the Percy Jackson books I am always ready to jump into anything with Greek mythology and this book did not disappoint, I really enjoyed this interpretation and can see it quickly becoming one of my favourites.

Young adult fantasy, in which teenage boy Quinn discovers he isn’t insane, he’s just a reincarnated god.

Seventeen-year-old Quinn feels compelled to break into a library and assaults a police officer who tries to interrupt his reading. Quite understandable, but he’s committed to a mental institution. Then a mysterious woman gets him out and he finds out his reading obsession and ability to see things others can’t are down to being a reincarnated god. He meets other gods and suchlike. And then some bad guys are trying to steal a mystic doodad and need to be stopped, or else.

If you like a Young Adult fantasy story based on Greek mythology, that’s what this is, and it’s an enjoyable read. The writing is a little clunky with quite a few editing errors, but very readable throughout. This is the first book of a planned series, and it shows, with the protagonist Quinn mostly being introduced to his new world while following other people around, but it’s fun stuff nevertheless.

There are hints of gay romance, which don’t develop into anything in this book.

This book was an interesting read.

It took me a little time to get into the book.
The characters are really interesting, I liked the way Jared and Quinn relationship was portrayed and I hope it will go further in book 2.
One of my favorite character was Leo and I hope to see him a little more in book 2.
The reincarnation was really interesting and you can see that the author did a lot of research on mythology and I am really fond of it. One of my favorite things was the fact that the incarnation wasn't linked to gender, only the soul remained.
I would have loved a little more word building, the information were great but sometimes it was a bit overwhelming cause it was a lot at the same time and I would have loved a little more details on the realms but maybe more sporadic.
The plot is great, we have Quinn who has no memory before he was six and learned that he is the reincarnation of a God, he then meets several of them and Jared, Thanathos reincarnation. We learned that he might have something to do with Quinn memory loss and that was really a plot point I liked and I am looking forward to it playing a bigger role in the sequel.
Overall it's a really good book, the lenght is excellent and it's the one I usually go for.
